England claw back a two-goal deficit as Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy inspire an unlikely England comeback in Berlin. Jack Butland’s role in that win is curtailed as Stoke City and his 27% Fantasy Premier League ownership wait on news on a potential ankle ligament injury…

Butland’s Night Wrecked By Ankle Injury

Stoke City’s Jack Butland was stretchered off at the end of the first half against Germany with an ankle injury. Post-match reports have suggested that the Potter’s stopper may have suffered ligament damage, with Roy Hodgson confirming that Butland’s setback will be assessed….

“It’s an ankle injury but we don’t know the extent. When you’re talking about ligaments, there’s always some kind of worry but we’ll assess him.”

The Scout Says: Given that he’s the highest owned (27%) Fantasy Premier League (FPL) keeper, Butland now looks destined to suffer significant sales with is current 5.4 price tag set to plummet. Despite a superb season as the Stoke number one, Butland was already looking vulnerable for the season run-in given current form (one clean sheet in nine outings) and Stoke’s testing schedule (SWA, liv, TOT, mci). More significantly, he seems destined to give way to double Gameweek 34 signings once Wildcards are in play. With Joe Hart and Petr Cech yet to return to the fray, Butland’s injury would likely promote interest in Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet, Everton’s Joel Robles and Manchester United’s David de Gea as the choice options between the sticks for the coming weeks. Despite this, prior to Butland’s injury scare, he was acquired by more FPL managers heading into Gameweek 32 than any other keeper (21,212).

Kane and Vardy Fire Warning Shots

A pair of superbly taken goals by Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy steered England to an unlikely comeback. The Leicester striker’s sublime flick represented his first goal in six starts in all competitions, while Kane’s accurate drive was his sixth strike in his last five starts. Dele Alli failed to find the net for England but shimmered throughout and was arguably England’s most impressive performer.

The Scout Says: The performances of Kane, Vardy and Alli on the international stage underlines that fact that the decision to maximise double Gameweek 34 acquisitions comes packaged with significant risk. Together with Riyad Mahrez, these established FPL assets enjoy favourable Gameweek 35 home fixtures with Spurs hosting West Brom and Leicester facing Swansea. Given the motivation and confidence, the decision to shed all four appears to represent a major gamble.

Ozil Assists As Germany Cave In

While England’s comeback stole the headlines, Mesut Ozil played his part for Germany on the night, laying on the assist for Toni Kroos’ opener.

The Scout Says: Following a run of three consecutive league blanks, Ozil has suffered significant sales with almost 58,000 opting to show the playmaker the door in the current Gameweek. That has seen his ownership slip to 43% with his price dropping to 9.7 having stood at 10.0 back in Gameweek 29. However, with Arsenal facing three home fixtures in the next three Gameweeks (WAT, whm, CPL/WBA), Ozil’s stock is on the rise. With a points per game average (6.2) that’s second only to Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez and far superior to team-mate Alexis Sanchez (4.7), the German sits atop our Watchlist rankings heading into a spell that will decide Arsenal’s participation in the title race.

Dembele Injury Scare For Spurs

Mousa Dembele trained for Belgium amid reports that he’s suffered a flare-up of an ankle complaint. Dembele will likely be assessed again prior to the friendly with Portugal on Tuesday.

The Scout Says: Tottenham will be concerned that these latest reports could lead to a further absence for Dembele. The classy midfielder has established himself as a key component of their title challenge, not least for his apparent impact on the role and output of both Dele Alli and Harry Kane. The Belgian recently missed Gameweeks 16, 20, 27 and 28 through injury, during which time Alli and Kane recorded just a single goal between them. Those seeking to hold the Spurs pairing will be keenly monitoring Dembele’s fitness in light of this recent report.

Mane Maintains Recent Form

Sadio Mane followed up his brace of goals against Liverpool in Gameweek 31 by providing both assists as Senegal beat Niger 2-0.

The Scout Says: Mane’s spurt of goals and assists typifies a player who has proved a hugely frustrating Fantasy asset this term. Priced at 7.3 in the FPL, the winger has struggled to cement his Southampton starting role but could now be granted further minutes as Ronald Koeman bids to revive the Saints’ attacking threat. Southampton’s next four fixtures (lei, NEW, eve, avl) could offer strong potential for returns, yet the absence of a double Gameweek serves as a major deterrent and will likely ensure that Mane continues to be largely ignored as an FPL option.

Niasse On the Scoresheet

Oumar Niasse notched for Senegal as they ran out winners in their African Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Scout Says: Niasse’s strike will send a message to Roberto Martinez and could see the attacker edge closer to his first Premier League start. Classified as a 6.5 forward, Niasse has so far been limited to just 18-minutes off the bench in Gameweeks 29 and 30. While he is unlikely to appeal as a target, Niasse’s impact on the pitch time of Everton’s other attacking options requires consideration. The Toffees will endure nine fixtures over the remaining seven Gameweeks, with double fixtures in Gameweeks 33, 34 and 37 ensuring that we’ll see rotation at play. Certainly, those Fantasy managers intrigued by the differential prospects of Aaron Lennon (four goals and one assist in six) will be wary of Niasse, Gerard Deulofeu and Kevin Mirallas curtailing his pitch-time. As such, Ross Barkley appears to represent the most secure accompaniment to Romelu Lukaku, yet the fact he’s only delivered attacking returns (brace against Newcastle United) in one of his last 10 starts is a concern for would-be investors.

I don't have BB so I'm WCing 34, hence Lukaku's first DGW is insignificant since I'll own him.

Would you have Lukaku (SOU, liv) or Martial/Rashford (AVL, CPL)? Even possibly Mitrovic (SWA, MCI)...

    Thoughts?

      But from that lot Martial.

Right, these United games are quite DGW tasty.

Do we dare to get a striker in?

    Martial nailed but too wide.

    Rashford? Rooney returning risk??

I think we just have to see how United lineup when Rooney's back.

      Could be like this:

      Rashford
      Martial - Rooney - Mata

      or

      Rooney
      Martial - Mata - Lingard/Depay

Agree on Martail, but he's less (FPL) effective out wide.

What's you MF going to look like? Not many spaces there, and lots of choices.

He'll still pose a threat from out wide imo, loves to cut inside.

          Midfield will probably be
          Ozil(CPL WBA CPL WBA CPL WBA) - Mata(AVL CPL) - Silva(che new) - Mahrez(WHU)

          BB in 37

Payet for me. Class, good underlying stats and high ownership. But heavily depends on how much the remaining 3.2 improves your squad tbh

Reading Spencer's interesting HT and one takeaway for me is that even beyond counting the number of Dgw teams and players you have, it's important to have your squad structured at the right price points.

Flipping the team from 34 to 37 with a minimum of damage will be predicated on how easily one can make like for like transfers price wise as much as it will be on the teams and players.

    Dann to Azpilicueta,
    Rojo to PVA,
    etc.

      • 12 Years

Dann -> azpi is probably the biggest draw of getting Dann 😀

    Pick one from each:
    A) Lennon, Barkley or Bolasie (only for dgw33)
    B) Coutinho or Milner (from gw32 till the end of the season. If you think it's ridiculous then check Milners attacking stats under Klopp and then come back to this question).
    Much Appreciated.

I would pick Lennon just for GW33 because i'm sure he'll defo play the first 2 games of Everton's run and he has the form out of the three.

I would imagine Coutinho should get more points than Milner.

  24. Theatre_Of_Screams

    (A) Robles, Clyne, Lennon

    (B) De Gea, Sakho, Lanzini

With a massive thank you to Balders for his article clearly showing the DGW fixtures I have formulated a plan that deals with my DGW plan with no WC left. I'll try to explain logic employed and welcome your comments! 🙂

Current team, 0 FT, £4.8m ITB, top of ML (but tight), OR 28k:

    Forster

    Bellerin - Simpson - Toby A

    Payet (c) - Mahrez - Antonio - Alli

    Lukaku - Kun - Kane

    (McCarthy - Siggy - Fonte - Daniels

For 31 - Really want Sanchez. My plan gives 6 DGW players in 34 so I feel that TC is best then. Sanchez would be ideal and he seems on the up whilst Ozil is just consistent. No one in my ML has Sanchez, several have Ozil. He and DDG are key to my plan. Current prices this move leaves £1.2m ITB.

For 32 - Fonte to Klose. Don't fancy pool defenders and I'm not gunning for max 34 DGW players. This move makes money for DDG. And Nor have tightened up many will overlook them with DGW blindness. Fixtures are NEW, cpl, SUN. He is a great enabler. Leaves £2.4m ITB on current prices.

For 33 - Either save, or get DDG in a week early but still play Forster. Forster has goof fixtures approaching 34 and a solid avl in 35 when DDG blanks. DDG has an incredible 34, then nice end to the season. Also, let's not forget Forster is gunning for Euros in light of recent injuries. I can see him playing with motivation next few weeks. If price changes have really stung me I might do Daniels to someone to allow DDG still, but ideally want to play Daniels in 33 vs avl.

For 34 - McCarthy to DDG. This gives me 6 DGW players, TC on Sanchez (CPL, WBA). Can BB when I feel there's a good week or maybe 37 (not worried about that yet). Logic is that other than maybe Payet, maybe, I see no great TC candidates in 37. 34 has a few - so for me that is the week to play that chip and I have no WC left so not pressured to get DGW fever like many have.

For 35 - If you're still with me I've got 10 players because I didn't max out for 34. Not ditching my 3 Spurs players because they are in form and going for the title. Are you crazy? Ditch them at your peril. Also the question about Mahrez should not be asked. We learned already never to bench him. That also means never sell him when they too are in a title race. And Simpson is in a solid recent defence, grniding out 1-0's and his sale wouldn't free up cash much so he's staying. Therefore as NOR blank in 35 and fixtures get tougher I'll probably sell Klose for perhaps a LIV defender, not sure yet. Klose does DGW in 37 so might hold fire

After that I'll reassess form and try to get a a couple of the best 37 DGW players. Maybe Lennon \ Barkley or a Utd attacker. Lukaku, Antonio and Payet, DDG, Klose all DGW so going to get quality not quantity. Could maybe maybe sell Kun after 36 let's see if Sturridge can still run then - he could be an awesome end to the season with an eye on the Euros...

As for my attack I've explained Kane, he is on fire and I'm not selling him. Lukaku as 3 dgws coming up, plus pretty good form - he's a must for me. Kun is awkward. Just have to have him but might sell him 36 to allow a grand gwk 37 and finale.

That's it, just a short post, any thoughts welcome. It's a bespoke plan but I think it has to be. Might help some people with their planning, might make some angry. I expect there are more without WC out there than we think so might help them too. Cheers (especially to Balders).

    Any advice?
To deal with Butland injury. Free FT already used so any transfer would be for a -4.
    A) Swap for a 1 week punt before wildcard
    B) Play with no keeper (sub keeper is Rudd)
    C) Play wildcard early!
