Next up this Tuesday evening we roll out a heads-up on our Scout Picks thinking for the Gameweek ahead. This list of 22 players will also include some names in contention for a place in our Spot the Differential article, though will, of course, be subject to change, depending on the injury situation over the next few days.

Here’s the cast currently under consideration for Gameweek 32…

Goalkeepers

West Ham United have proved a tough nut to crack at the Boleyn Ground, recording clean sheets in four of their previous five home ties. Meanwhile, weekend visitors Crystal Palace mustered just five goals in their last six road trips, which brings Adrian (5.0) – who’s scooped five bonus points and four save points in a quartet of starts – onto our radar.

Joe Hart’s calf injury has paved the way for Willy Caballero (4.8) to earn a start between the sticks against a Bournemouth unit that registered a paltry two attempts last time out.

Defenders

We’re currently mulling over a four-man defence for the upcoming round of fixtures due to a number of strong options at the back.

With three assists in his last two starts, Hector Bellerin (6.3) is translating his marauding wing play into tangible Fantasy returns. Crucially, the right-back boasts a points per game (ppg) average (4.5) that surpasses the likes of Laurent Koscielny (4.4) and Gabriel Paulista (4.3), rendering him the choice route into Arsenal’s defence as they prepare to host a Watford outfit that’s drawn seven blanks in ten outings.

Branislav Ivanovic (6.6) piques our interest ahead of Chelsea’s journey to a Villa side that have scored twice in previous six league outings. Having notched two goal and three assists, the Serbia international serves as the prime source of coverage for a defence that has registered four clean sheets in their last six away matches.

The King Power Stadium has been a fortress for Leicester since the turn of the year, with Claudio Ranieri’s men recording six shut-outs in their previous seven home encounters. The Foxes’ rearguard furnishes us with a host of tantalising options at home to a Southampton outfit that’s failed rto score in four of their previous eight on the road, but Christian Fuchs’ (5.0) knack for accruing bonus points (19 – second among all defenders) elevates his standing above the other starters.

Although Patrick van Aanholt (4.7) has suffered from the fact that Sunderland last earned a clean sheet in Gameweek 14, his propensity for attacking returns (five goals and three assists) remains a key selling point. Furthermore, the Black Cats will fancy their chances of rebuffing West Brom, bearing in mind that the Baggies’ in-form Salomon Rondon is set to arrive back late from international duties with Venezuela and may be somewhat fatigued.

Norwich’s back-to-back clean sheets has led us to explore their budget recruits. Given that he grabbed five out of a six maximum bonus points during the Canaries’ two shut-outs, new boy Timm Klose (4.2) gets our backing for the visit of a Newcastle side that’s failed to score in three of their last four away match-ups.

In light of our faith in the Hammers’ ability to keep it tight on home turf the ever-present Aaron Cresswell (5.7) also factors into our thinking.

Midfielders

Stoke’s main assets are likely to fade into obscurity beyond this weekend, when their schedule turns nasty (liv, TOT, mci) and Fantasy managers favour double Gameweek players. For now, though, Marko Arnautovic (6.6) remains in our thoughts as Swansea roll up to the Britannia. The Austrian has netted seven of his last eight goals at home and is pitted against a backline with a single clean sheet on their travels all season.

With Roberto Firmino (hamstring) still a slight doubt for Liverpool’s home clash against Tottenham Hotspur, Philippe Coutinho (8.1) represents our favoured path into their attack. The twinkle-toed Brazilian scored three times across his previous five appearances in all competitions and – despite contending with a spate of injuries – has racked up five double-figure hauls.

Expected to be passed fit after sustaining a knock in the Tyne-Wear derby, Wahbi Khazri (6.0) will look to pull the strings when the Baggies roll up at the Stadium of Light. As the Wearsiders’ premier creative influence, the Tunisian midfielder is well place to deliver Fantasy returns against a West Brom rearguard that managed four clean sheets in their last 20 outings.

Notwithstanding Alexis Sanchez’s upturn in form (one goal and two assists in three), Mesut Ozil’s (9.7) consistency throughout the campaign gives him the edge for Arsenal’s clash with Watford..

Dimitri Payet (8.3) is in the midst of a purple patch (two goals and four assists in five) as West Ham face off against a Palace outfit that’s without a shut-out in 11 fixtures.

Riyad Mahrez (7.4) scored in two of his last three starts and will lock horns with a Saints back line that surrendered eight goals in their last five match-ups.

Buoyed by an eye-catching performance on the international stage, Dele Alli (6.2) will look to punish a Liverpool outfit that have mustered a mere two clean sheets in their last ten league matches.

With regards to harnessing Man City’s attacking potential in midfield, it’s a toss-up between Yaya Toure (8.5) and David Silva (9.9), who are both struggling for form but are capable of explosive returns at the Vitality Stadium.

Forwards

With Diego Costa serving the final match of his suspension, Loic Remy (7.1) looks likely to spearhead Chelsea’s attack in the West Midlands. Even in the event that the Frenchman loses out to Bertrand Traore, his pace against tired legs spells trouble for a Villa side that conceded a whopping 18 goals in their last six fixtures.

Notching three goals and one assist in five appearances, Danny Welbeck (7.3) has cemented Arsenal’s lone-striker berth for the time being. Given that the Hornets haven’t carded a shut-out on the road since Gameweek 16, the former Manchester United marksman will be preying on those insecurities at the Emirates.

Having tallied three goals and one assist in his previous six starts, Jermain Defoe (5.1) is in fine fettle before the West Brom head-to-head. The ex-Spurs forward is prone to short bursts of scoring (he beckoned in the New Year with a quick-fire brace and hat-trick) and throughout his career has showcased a propensity for putting less illustrious sides to the sword.

Sergio Aguero (13.6) came up short in four of his last five starts but is handed a great platform to get back on track against the Cherries’ unconvincing defence.

Harry Kane (10.4) is the league’s form striker (five goals and one assist in four) and one of the few fixture-proof players on the market as Spurs make their way to Anfield.

Romelu Lukaku (8.9) chalked up three goals in his previous five starts but could find it tough going against a Manchester United rearguard that’s conceded the fewest home goals (seven).

On Standby

Considering the surfeit of viable pick-ups across all price brackets, there are a bevy of players that could yet manoeuvre themselves into our team.

If Joe Hart (5.7) is passed fit before the weekend, he’ll usurp his Argentinian stand-in.

As mentioned above, Alexis Sanchez (10.8) – who registered 10 attempts in his last four starts – has put us on alert with his recent flourish. Staying within the North Londoners’ camp, only two midfielders mustered more shots inside the box than Alex Iwobi (4.5) last Gameweek, who is pushing for a place in our Spot the Differentials article.

Chelsea midfield trio Willian (7.1), Oscar (7.9) and Cesc Fabregas (8.4) are all jostling for attention ahead of the trip to Villa Park. Although the latter netted three goals in his last four matches, Oscar ranked top among his Blues counterparts for attempts (12), shots inside the box (seven) and shots on target (four) during that time. As for Willian, he charted joint-second among all midfielders for key passes (17).

Michail Antonio (5.4) ranked joint-third for attempts (12), joint-second for shots inside the box (seven) and joint-top for shots on target (five) across his previous quartet of starts, and looks likely to revert to a midfield berth following James Tomkins’ return to fitness. As for Gylfi Sigurdsson (7.3), he carded attacking returns (two goals and assists) in each of his last four starts, which bodes well for a trip to the Britannia Stadium.

Up top, Daniel Sturridge’s (9.9) return to form and fitness has seen him score in each of his last two league outings ahead of an Anfield head-to-head with Tottenham.

Meanwhile, the arrival of Rafa Benitez Aleksandar Mitrovic (6.2) into our thinking. The Serbian sits joint-top with Kane for efforts inside the box (seven) in the last two Gameweeks and, having bagged an equaliser against Sunderland, looks pivotal to Newcastle’s survival bid as they head to fellow strugglers Norwich.

The Community Champions

Having scrapped the weekly vote idea from last season, we now operate a lottery system to pick our weekly candidates. The community member who beats our picks by the biggest margin over the campaign will win a £100 Amazon Voucher and a place in our Contributors and Moderators League for the following season.

Red Devil leads the way after beating the Picks by 25 points in Gameweek 17.

Gameweek 31’s Community Champion Gawa 11 beat the Scout Picks by 74 points to 70. The Gameweek 32 Community Champion is Van Dear Vaart. This is his 10th season playing FPL, with 2011/12’s finish of 153344 his highest.

In addition to a shot at the £100 Amazon prize, FantasyBet are offering a chance for further prizes to Community Champions that are eligible to play their games. More details can be found here.

One benefit of having a United attacker like Martial on a WC team is that he is easy to bench GW33 away to Spurs.

Looking at the most popular WC team mids/forwards there aren't many I would want to bench apart from United attackers that week.

I don't think anyone would have a United attacker if it wasn't for those two home fixtures. But I get your point, they're not very good, but worth a punt GW34.

I don't think anyone would have any United players if it wasn't for those 2 fixtures.. I'm on a WC and I'm going without any.

What's the yellow card threshold at this stage of the season for a one match ban? 10 or 15?

    *CAUTION LONG POST*

If you're still here, essentially I need opinions as to whether these hits are worth it. I have no chips or wildcards remaining but am trying to field full sides... This is the best I've come up with:

    CURRENT TEAM

    Adrian Fabianski
    Fuchs Targett Kompany* Ivan Daniels
    Siggy Arnie Sanchez Alli Mahrez
    Kane Vardy Kun

    GW32 - 2FT

    Kompany > Bellerin
    Roll other one

    0.0 ITB

    GW33 2FT
    Ivan > Gabriel
    Vardy > Lukaku C
    Arnie > Bolasie
    Siggy > Firmino

    -8 HIT

    GW34 1FT

    Alli > Payet
    Aguero > Martial
    Daniels > Smalling

    -8 HIT

This leaves me with 11 DGW34 players, and Kane, Mahrez, Fuchs and Fabianski benched.

    GW35 1FT

    Smalling > Ivanovic
    Bolasie > Khazri

    -4 HIT

11 GW35 players, including Targett and Gabriel, in a 5-4-1 formation.

    GW36

    Mahrez > Antonio
    Fuchs > PVA

    -4 HIT

    GW37 1FT

    Gabriel > Klose

    Free,

Leaving me with 10 DGW37 players and Kane.

Thanks if you've read this far! Any advice is much appreciated.

Play kane mahrez dont take bolaise martial
Also dont do ivan gabriel he is a risk anyway.
      This saves you 12 points.

I'll be honest I don't like it mate, you're taking -24 in hits and still left with the likes of Targett and Gabriel in a 5-4-1 in GW35!

Lol "This leaves me with 11 DGW34 players, and Kane, Mahrez, Fuchs and Fabianski benched."

I'd play all 3 instead of -12 hits tyvm.

      Not Arnautovic to Bolasie.

      G34 revise completely.

Ivanovic, Perhaps hold throughout? If you keep Alli, 35 is easier.

      36 OK.

      37 No, just no.

      Imo only. 🙂

Over the weekend, I had come to the comclusion that I was only getting in Elliot from the Newcastle backline due to his price and template-ness... So I began looking at Janmaat instead. Then Elliot went and got injured, cementing his place out of my team, and strengthening Janmaat's spot.. (only 4.8) but he seems to have an ongoing niggling knee injury that has kept him out of two sets of internationals now...

Any Toon fans about? Any update on the Dutch Cafu?

Elliot out makes it simple enough to go for the 3rd choice keeper doesn't it? Darlow I believe

If they're down to their 3rd choice keeper I think I might have to gamble on some attacking returns too, wouldn't want to just bet on their defence when it has so many injuries to "key" players

    Fabianski
    Simpson - Cresswell - Bellerin
    Ozil - Sanchez (c) - Mahrez - Arnie
    Aguero - Kane - Vardy

    Hennessey - Alli - VVD - Williams

I'd rather play Alli over Kane away to Liverpool, also Arnie without Shaqiri isn't that great an option but I don't know how fit Shaqiri is.

Kane scores big at home against poor opposition, Alli scores big away regardless of opposition, imo anyway.

    Robles - Darlow
    Rojo - Gabriel - Moreno - Olsson - Lascelles

Other cheap considerations for your back 7:

      Ruddy, Schmeichel, Mignolet
Klose, Simpson, Fuchs/Huth, Janmaat, PvA, Kirchhoff, Sakho

I don't think Moreno will play much with Flanagan left out of the Europa squad.
Gabriel, Lascelles, Rojo are all dodgy enough in terms of rotation too..

Think Rashford may start v Villa & Rooney off the bench.

      Then Rooney starts v Palace.

Must have about 25 WC drafs now and still no real clue, few questons..

What degree to we think Ronney's return will limit Rashford's minutes? i'm really struggling between Rashford, Deeney, Mitrovic or Welbeck..

    Is Lallana nailed on?

          - with or without missing game weeks. However, I am not, and am not planning to get ANY. Should tell you all you need to know.

The closest I would EVER get to the Magpies defence is Wijnaldum, and not even him, when the entire midfield is out of position.

Benitez is beyond crap, imo, btw.

Morning! So for someone who has been out of the FFS lately, whats the stance on WC, this week or next? What players do you think are essential to own on a WC?

Next week imo to have more information.

For me Arsenal defence or midfield double up, United defender (only for 34 though), Lukaku, Coutinho/Firmino, Payet.

If I go for Martial then one is enough for me. Bad fixtures and a blank around 34. If I get Deeney or Mitrovic then Smalling might be in with Rojo.

Hugely disagree, Monreal is far less likely to be rotated even with Gibbs on the bench. Monreal defensively is our second best after Kossa, and seems to acquire a few BPS, only Bellerin has been getting them lately because he has got a few assists

This is the 23 I'd take to France:
(but not who I think will go)

    *GK*
    Hart
    Forster
    Heaton

    *Def*
    Smalling
    Cahill
    Stones
    Jones
    Walker
    Clyne
    Bertrand
Shaw (\ if not fit, Rose)

    *Mid*
    Alli
    Barkley
    Dier
    Drinkwater
    Henderson
    Lallana
    Sterling

    *Fwds*
    Kane
    Vardy
    Rooney
    Sturridge
    Welbeck

    .
Who would you replace, and for who?

I imagine Sterling and Jones won't be popular 😀

He wouldn't take Vardy because of non-footballing reasons but that's another debate.

Argues that we can take just 1 of Walker/Clyne and take another midfielder instead. Jones or even Milner could fill in at RB if the absolute worst happens.

Jagielka over Jones, Rose 100% - he'd be my 1st choice left back. I'd probably take Milner, maybe leave Rooney and just take 4 strikers (though that's a massive gamble with Sturridge).

Not much width in that side, and as poor as he's been you'd perhaps need to take Walcott. I'm actually surprised by how difficult it is to fit all of the England players in!

      1. Doolittle

        Yeah, it's tough.

Bit of a shame we don't have better centre backs. Aside from Smalling I don't really trust the others.

Welbeck is starting so no worries about him coming on 🙂

I get the "with 10 mins to go argument" but you can't take someone like Carroll just based on that.

He takes the space of someone who could arguably be in the starting line up. Carroll won't be.

                  Yes.

Are you telling me he starts ahead of any of - Kane, Rooney, Vardy or Sturridge?

For a start, I would not have Rooney anywhere near the squad - so yes.

We'll agree to disagree. Carroll in the England squad? No chance.

                        This^^

First time in years England are pressing high up the pitch with Alli , Kane and Welbeck/Vardy...Carroll is a big lump (relatively) 😛

Th 5th fwd isn't going to start no matter who you pick and he offers something different which can be very effective when needs must.

I'd rather give the place to Walcott who has some pace in the last 10 minutes. But that's just my opinion.

Of course not all those players will start the main difference is I can see Roy being confident in starting any of Rooney, Vardy, Kane, Sturridge or Welbeck.

                  Not Carroll.

Would get Walcott in . His recent form has been bad but still he is a good player imo 🙂

I actually would not take Barkley . I think he is surplus to requirements if Roy's continues to play a 4-3-3 formation

Yeah I'm not too convinced by Barkley either. Hopefully I'm proven wrong, would love him to be doing well for England.

      Jones > Jagielka
      Shaw > Rose
      Drinkwater > Milner
      Walker > Walcott

Dull I know but it needs a bit of experience in there

This will probably be what happens tbh. I thought Walker did okay yesterday though.

    @Doos,

Why are you planning on ditching Antonio on your WC? Don't fancy him for the double?

    For gw33-35

Can't get another Arsenal / ManU / Liverpool / Everton def and need to fill two defender spot. Who should I get?

      Simpson and Fuchs 😉

I really don't like many of the DGW defenders so I'm keeping Fuchs or downgrading to Simpson.

Maybe ManC def but who to get?

No Kompany no cs but I like their gw33 and gw35 home games

Otamendi too expensive and likes a yellow card. Can't really go for fullback when they're all fit. That leaves Mangala who is just not very good, but I admit that I'm looking at him because of that 35 fixture...

And Kompany might be back soon so not sure Mangala is nailed for too long. Kompany and his **** calves...

WC GW 32 (already activated) - No BB

    Migs - Robles

    Payet - Ozil - Lingard - Mahrez - Barkley -> (Cout/Firm gw 34)

    Aguero - Lukaku - Welbeck

Will give me Robles, Bark and Lukaku DGW gw 33. 11 DGW players in 34, and 11 players in gw 35 (2 FT for 35).

    Would you rather go:

    A: Cech and Mitrovic?

    or

    B: Mignolet and Welbeck?

    Currently on B.

Looks decent. Not a fan of Lingard but he is cheap at least.

Tough one, Wenger might give Giroud a game at some point.

Yeah, Lingard is a risk. Enabler, but will only play him for the DGW 34. Could however go for Lanzini instead? Would only be able to get in Cout, not Firm.

Thinking same, but Wenger could play Welbz on the right. Mitrovic could also be benched - alot of forwards at N'castle.

Best goalkeeper to go with DDG? Robles means no GW35 keeper.

So I go on holiday for a few days and return to 2 injured goalkeepers. Fantastic. For a one week punt who's the best replacement for Butland? Also need Fernandez out so I'm thinking a combination of Arsenal Chelsea or West Ham?

    A) Courtois and Reid
    B) Ospina and Azpilicueta
    C) Adrian and Monreal
    D) Anything better
