We call upon a couple of overlooked double Gameweek 33 options as the Wildcard fine tuning continues. Southampton’s midfield supplies us with the final selection as Ronald Koeman’s men welcome Newcastle’s generous defence to St Mary’s.

Aaron Lennon

By virtue of Everton’s successive doubles in Gameweek 33 (wat & cry) and Gameweek 34 (SOU, liv), most managers have gravitated towards Ross Barkley in their search for an attacking accompaniment to Romelu Lukaku – indeed, they occupy the top two spots with regards to “transfers in” this week. Despite offering greater form than Barkley (four goals and one assist in seven compared to two goals in 16) and boasting a far cheaper price tag (5.6 to 7.1), Aaron Lennon has garnered just under 2% ownership ahead of this morning’s deadline.

Whilst Lennon doesn’t lay claim to exceptional statistics of late, he mustered two more shots on target (four) than any of Everton’s midfield regulars across his previous six matches. Moreover, he ranked top for penalty-box touches (27) and key passes (10) during that stretch. A small pool of data (11 attempts) skews the data, but it’s also worth noting that Lennon charts top among all midfielders for goal conversion (45.5%) this term.

Although the Merseysiders have failed to score in the last two, it’s worth bearing in mind that faced up against Arsenal and United in those encounters, and the prospect of consecutive road clashes bodes well for an attack that possesses the third-best shot-conversion rate (13.5%) in away fixtures. Lennon’s attacking potential is bolstered further by the revelation that Crystal Palace and Watford recorded two clean sheets between them in their last 12 outings, underlining the obliging nature of their defences.

Dwight Gayle

Considering that Connor Wickham has just been discharged from the treatment room and Emmanuel Adebayor remains doubtful for the weekend, Dwight Gayle (5.1) could be considered the favourite to spearhead the Eagles’ attack for a pair of vital home clashes with Norwich and Everton that may well decide their safety. The Palace marksman scored as a second-half substitute against West Ham United, alerting us to his potential as a budget enabler for wildcarders.

Palace’s recent attacking output suggests there’s scope for one of their forwards to flourish if they can discover some rhythm; although the Eagles faced off against Liverpool, West Ham and Leicester City in their previous quartet of ties, they ranked fifth for shots inside the box (38) and joint-seventh for big chances (six).

Looking at Palace’s pair of opponents, the Canaries have managed a solitary shut-out on the road this season, whilst the Toffees have kept just two shut-outs in nine. There’s no doubt Gayle is a gamble but if he earns enough minutes, the striker could well vindicate Alan Pardew’s backing and fire his side to safety.

Sadio Mane

With many Fantasy enthusiasts blindsided by the inescapable allure of a bumper double Gameweek, in-form single-Gameweek players like Sadio Mane (7.3) could prove to be valuable acquisitions. The Senegalese winger reclaimed his starting berth with a brace against Liverpool in Gameweek 31, before spurning a golden opportunity to open the scoring at the King Power Stadium. Nonetheless, Mane appears invigorated ahead of Southampton’s tantalising home tie against Newcastle United.

Poring over the stats, Mane – despite clocking just 45 minutes against the Reds – places second for shots inside the box (five) and joint-third for shots on target (three) among midfielders in the last two Gameweeks. Throughout the course of the campaign, only Alexis Sanchez has amassed more shots inside the box (60 compared to 56), illuminating Mane’s capacity for explosive returns.

Newcastle’s defensive ineptitude serves as a compelling reason why investing in a Saints attack that charts second for shot-conversion rate (12.2%) in home matches could pay dividends. On that note, the Magpies conceded the second-most goals (14) in their last six outings and have shipped the second-most goals (36) in away clashes. In addition, only Sunderland have recorded fewer clean sheets (four) than the Tynesiders (five) this season.

I need to make up a 70 point difference - A) for reliability or B) for the risk?

    A) Koscielny - Jagielka / Firmino
    B) Gabriel - Sakho / KDB

    Robles - Darlow
    Bellerin - Clyne - Janmaat - *** - ***
    Sanchez - Coutinho - Payet - Lanzini - ***
    Aguero - Lukaku - Martial

    DDG/Robles
    Bellerin/Gabriel/Fuchs/Sakho/Simpson
    Sanchez/KDB/Coutinho/Lennon/Lanzini
    Aguero/Lukaku/Martial
    0,5m ITB.

Good to go? I'm not much of a fan having Lennon or doubling up with Leicester during DGW but I really don't know what else to do? Should I tinker with my defence to upgrade Lennon or what?

Don't do that. Firminho has just come back and might remain on the bench or come off early. KDB has had more settling time and has produced with goals.

I would ONLY play Payet in GW 34 (bench 33, sell 35) so:

    A) Payet+Moreno+Rojo (2 risk rotations but each will play at least one in 34) + no Lennon in GW33
    B) Lanzini+Smalling+Monreal (all nailed) + Lennon in GW33

really want MU and can't squeeze Payet+MU nailed player. help please.

We need to talk about Clichy.

+ Fixtures: WBA, DGW, and gw35 fixture (STK).
    + Price: 5.3 isn't a lot for a City defender.
+ Team: Kompany and Hart are coming back to boost CS potential.
+ Form: In contention for City's March player of the month alongside Yaya and Fernando.

"But he is not nailed on" you will say. I have looked a little deeper into it and he might be a bit more nailed on than most people think 🙂

    - He has started in 10 out of the last 11 games, only missing the FA Cup game vs Chelsea where Pelle fielded youngsters.
    - His threat, Kolarov, has only got two sub appearances in the last 5 games - both times he has come on for an attacking player, leaving Clichy on the pitch. Seems to me like Pelle doesn't trust Kolarov's defensive abilities anymore, and that he has decided to use him as an attacking player of the bench. Him scoring vs Bournemouth when coming on for KdB could keep Pelle thinking in the same lines.

What do you think, is he worth a spot in our WC teams? Personally I'm finding him hard to ignore.

    GW 35 10 starters + 1 ft
    GW 37 8 starters + 3 fts.

A lot of people seem to be BB in GW34 and TC in 37, surely Sanchex in GW 34 against CPL and WBA is a clear TC choice out of the DGWs? Could be absolute carnage.

Rather BB in 34 and TC in 37 given just wildcarded. Injuries etc. can make BB risky in 37

Its basically a toss up between TC Sanchez and 14/15 DGW players with Sanchez (c).
      Going for the latter myself

I'm with you on this one. I reckon my bench will be almost as strong in GW37 as GW34 and I prefer Sanchez TC gw34 to Payet TC gw37 so I'm going for it. Still got a week to change my mind/gather new information.

It's mainly because BB could be wasted in GW37 due to rotation. But yes, Sanchez is an outstanding TC option next week

    WC team so far

    de GEA Robles
    Simpson Gabriel Bellerin Delaney Sakho
    Coutinho Mahrez DeBruyne Payet Sanchez
    Lukaku Martial Ageuro

    Shall I stick or do:
Martial + Simpson for Fuchs + Mitrovic?

    Cheers

Yes this is it! Finally after hours of drafting I'm happy with my team! 🙂

    GW33: 3 DGW
    GW34: 14 DGW (BB)
GW35: Full team after 2 FTs

    Migs-Robles
    Smalling-Bellerin-Sakho-Fuchs-Clichy
    Sanchez-Payet-Coutinho-Iwobi-Bolasie
    Kun-Lukaku-Martial

    Bottomed last page,

For GW 37 planning, and keeping GW 34 in mind, would you pick Rojo or Reid in your WC team?

Are we really that certain Rashford will be the one to drop out when Rooney is back? Lingard hasn't done that much to keep his place imo, and Rooney was playing CAM before his injury.

      • 11 Years

I think Rashford could keep his place, LVG likes him, and just as likely that Mata, or Lingard make way

    I'm going to get this in early, next week with the multiple DGWs, would you rather play 4 DGW defenders;

    Bellerin, Gabriel, Sakho, and Jageilka

Or Bench one of them, and start Kane (stoke away)

I don't have my BB for next week

    1. Dr. Crentist

With Jags away against Pool I'd go Kane against a Stoke defence thats been porous lately.

Yes, unless Martinez feels like giving Howard a send off in the last game of the season

    Think this is me.

    Robles/Cech
    Smalling/Sakho/Gabriel/Delaney/Reid
    Sanchez/KDB/Lanzini/Milner/Coutinho
    Aguero/Lukaku/Martial

Going for Reid over SIMPSON and playing with 10 in GW35. It's EXACTLY the same number of games for Reid over gw34-35 BUT crucially it sets another DGW player for GW37 in place

That's it I can fiddle no more!
Have stubbornly stuck to my season plan & fitted in a Villa opponent (King) but apart from that it'll be all down to Everton and Payet to win my €500 ml. Good luck peeps
