Sergio Aguero and Alexis Sanchez both find the net as City and Arsenal share the Etihad spoils. Steven Davis scores twice as Southampton see off Spurs, whilst Roberto Firmino emerges from the bench to score in Liverpool’s home win over Watford.

Aguero in the goals again

Manchester City’s top-four berth is under threat following a 2-2 home draw against Arsenal.

Sergio Aguero prolonged his scoring streak by netting (Fernandinho assist) for the sixth successive start. The Argentine marksman amassed eight goals during that time frame and next faces a Swansea City defence with just a single clean sheet in six. Given that the Liberty match is must-win for City in their attempt to clinch third, we can expect Manuel Pellegrini to field a full-strength side again.

By way of just his second goal in 10 league appearances, Kevin De Bruyne irked 78,000 Fantasy managers that shipped him across the previous two weeks. The 9%-owned Belgian – who charts joint-third among midfielders for shots on target (five) over his last four starts – represents an alluring differential for the final day of the season as City look to clinch an automatic Champions League berth.

Sanchez earns Gunners a point

Arsenal twice came from behind to secure a draw that keeps second place within their sights.

Prior to kick-off, Mesut Ozil’s no-show was the chief talking point from a Fantasy perspective. The former Real Madrid playmaker missed out with a minor hip complaint but is expected to be passed fit for Aston Villa’s visit next weekend.

Olivier Giroud notched a goal (Mohamed Elneny assist) and an assist, ending a 16-match barren streak. Danny Welbeck was withdrawn at the 24-minute mark because of a knee injury and looks almost certain to be sidelined for Arsenal’s favourable final match-up, so Giroud should enjoy investment from suitors looking to double up on the North Londoners’ offense.

Alexis Sanchez rebounded from two straight blanks with his 13th goal of the season. No midfielder has chalked up more goals (seven) than the Chilean since Gameweek 29, rendering him a prime captaincy candidate against a Villains rearguard that ranks top for goals conceded (72).

Davis at the double

Southampton extended their unbeaten streak to five matches with a 2-1 comeback win at White Hart Lane.

Steven Davis bagged both goals for the visitors, gracing the scoresheet for the first time since Gameweek 11. Although the Northern Ireland international has been far from prolific this term, it’s worth noting that he’s now profiting from a central role behind lone striker Shane Long.

Dusan Tadic turned provider for both of Davis’ strikes, meaning he’s produced two goals and six assists in four starts. Pitched at 6.6, the Serbian midfielder serves as a strong pick before a home clash against Crystal Palace, who are almost certain to make wholesale changes to their starting XI ahead of the FA Cup final.

Those considering Sadio Mane for Gameweek 38 will be monitoring the winger’s fitness after he was withdrawn due to illness midway through the second period. Jordy Clasie is also an early doubt after being forced off with a groin problem.

Spurs stumble again

Spurs’ mini slump continued as they failed to taste victory for the third consecutive fixture.

Heung-Min Son grabbed his second goal in as many starts. Despite the fact that the 7.5-priced South Korean suffers from his classification as a forward, he could still profit from a visit to Newcastle on Sunday – a fixture that could prove meaningless for the hosts should Sunderland beat Everton in midweek and relegate the Magpies.

Erik Lamela notched his fourth assist in five starts. In the absence of Dele Alli, the ex-Roma starlet presents the strongest case for investment among Tottenham’s mid-priced assets.

Harry Kane validated 120,000 sellers with his third blank in five outings. His remaining 43% ownership will mostly feel inclined to sit tight, given that the league’s top scorer tallied six goals in Tottenham’s previous four road ties and places top among all forwards for away goals (15).

Klopp rings the changes

A much-changed Liverpool outfit rounded off a sensational week with a 2-0 home win over Watford.

In the wake of the Reds’ Europa League exertions, Jurgen Klopp enacted heavy rotation, affording James Milner, Nathaniel Clyne and Dejan Lovren the afternoon off. Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino were benched, allowing Christian Benteke to lead the line in front of Philippe Coutinho. Owing to Danny Ward’s season-ending knee injury, Simon Mignolet was an assured starter at Anfield.

Joe Allen opened the scoring (Benteke assist), before Firmino struck (Sheyi Ojo assist) 15 minutes into his second-half cameo. Although Liverpool will doubtless field their second team against West Bromwich Albion next Gameweek – given that the Europa League final takes place three days later – one would imagine that Klopp will name a strong XI for their home encounter against Chelsea on Wednesday, which bodes well for managers who’ve retained the likes of Sturridge, Coutinho and Firmino.

    Afternoon all. 😀

    Team atm -

    Robles - Darlow
    Smalling - Cresswell - Gabriel - Olsson - Souare
    Sanchez - KDB - Hazard - Ozil - Payet
    Lukaku - Carroll - Defoe

2.8m in the bank and 1 FT. What's the best move here?

    A. Hazard+Lukaku ➡ Aguero+Mane for -4
    B. Hazard+Carroll ➡ Aguero+Tadic for -4
    C. Hazard+Ozil+Carroll ➡ Aguero+Walcott+Mane for -8 (if Ozil is out)
    D. Hazard ➡ Mane

Would be playing AOA this week. So no benching worries.

    Thoughts please? 🙂

    Can anybody help me please?

Who wins in the H2H league if two on top have same points (only in H2H league, not overall points) at the end of the season? Do the overall points decide the winner or the number of wins in H2H league decide that?

    Overall points, right?

I'm just catching up and reading the Hot Topic yesterday about the TC/BB decision for 34 and 37. Any measurement would be a bit rough but the numbers people are using seem wrong to me.

Isn't the value of TC Sanchez/Aguero 25-26 points? That is the difference between a normal captaincy and the triple captain. If so, a fully loaded DGW bench could easily have gotten that -- mine got 24 points that DGW 34, and many others got in the 20 point range as well, if I recall.

Not sure where people are getting the idea that the TC for 34 was definitely better than the BB that week.

    1. MrT
      • 11 Years
      9 years, 7 months ago

This is exactly right. So many people overstating or misunderstanding what the TC is worth. Assuming that the player you TC is the one that you would have captained anyway what the chip is worth is ONE times the players score.

    2. Jigger & Pony
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

You are right for 34. The big debate is that is 37 people are unlikely to get 20+ points from TC whereas BB can deliver that if, for example, you had Sanchez on your bench like many. Hence this makes for this season TC34 and BB37 a better option. Next year can be different.

Interesting. The other game hasn't been played yet, so that seems a bit rash, but if indeed the popular candidates don't get double digits, then isn't the discussion about Aguero/Sanchez/Ozil vs Payet/Hazard/Carroll?

Would be interesting to run the numbers for all of the top captaincy picks in each gameweek. I've joined all the leagues but using our own FPL performances vs the raw numbers from the players themselves is a bit off, too.

That's right. It just so happened that both Aguero and Sanchez delivered in 34. Realistically I don't think we will get 25 points from Payet/Carroll/Hazard this week but let's see. I have TCd Defoe this week and the best I can hope for is a brace and 13 points to go with his 5 points in the first game.

    3. pundit of punts
      • 12 Years
      9 years, 7 months ago

      Correct.

My BB got me 22 points and Sanchez was my captain. I lost out on 2 - 3 points there.

If Payet does well as TC for me on Tuesday then our strategy has been better as BB this DGW has been poor.

    4. Kings of Lyon ★
      • 15 Years

I TCd Sanchez in 34 and BB so far is 17 with only DDG to go. I think the arguement is that while both chips were great in 34 TC isnt the chip to use in 37. Admittedly we still have a round of fixtures to go and Payet / Carroll / Martial / Sturr could do damage but I dont think they'll outscore 17 + DDG

    5. Meinhoff
      • 13 Years

Agree, especially cause people that benchboosted this gw have ridiculously small scores. I got 28 from my bench for gw34 BB and 174 overall. In hindsight, best option was to TC Kun when he scored 5 against Newcastle and BB in gw34

its too hard to work out becuase you get different players when you bencfh boost, for eg i got Cech for mine giving me him and DDG, id never have such an expensive pair otherwise. Plus cant always know who youd have benched if not using that chip

    7. Rhinos
      • 12 Years
      9 years, 7 months ago

The main point is though that bench boost has to be the most potentially profitable chip, Its 4 extra players, upto 8 if all dgwers,

      1. Kings of Lyon ★
        • 15 Years
        9 years, 7 months ago

In theory yes but highly unlikely you will have 4 DGWrs benched. Its all relative though, there wre no obvious TC options for 37 so thats why a lot went for TC in 34

        1. tm245
          • 14 Years
          9 years, 7 months ago

I think the other way around would be more accurate: Aguero and Sanchez definitely were good TC candidates for gw34, whereas gw37 was more of an unknown since we weren't sure what exactly teams would be playing for.

Will be interesting to see what metrics you use for the analysis post-38. Hope it goes beyond what scores we got on here, since one of the big FFS data problems is we don't look outside this FPL cocoon often enough.

Are Ozil and Sanchez injured ? . I just assumed people would be loading up on Arsenal assets against Villa especially after the Spurs loss . Wenger wants third

Maxing out on West Ham and Liverpool has really cost me so far.

What a dreadful GW... and 19 points behind my ML leader now!

A Milner or a Sturridge no show would get me Sanchez's 8 points off the bench, but I can see them trolling and getting 2's.

        haha ^^

Well at least I have 8 players pretty much certain to play then. Silver lining and that.

Still, was hoping to go into the final day with a chance of winning this ML... 20 points is too much to catch up on in all honesty, our teams are pretty similar too.

Right... Not taking a hit for GW38. My team is strong enough, despite some signings I'd LIKE to make. So...

    Prioritise one:

    A) Lanzini > Tadic
    B) Sturridge > Defoe/Long

    Then bench one:

    1) Townsend (TOT)
    2) Hazard (LEI)

    My initial thoughts are A2

    1. sillyhilly69
      • 9 Years
      9 years, 7 months ago

      A2

NEW have something to play for. Although LEI and CHE both want to end strong, I can see quite a reserved affair avoiding injury etc.

Suppose the alternative is play Townsend and Hazard, if I were to sell Sturridge, but I really fancy Tadic.

I'll be getting Tadic in too - apart from my nearest rival having him and needing to protect a lead, he's playing incredibly at the moment with the whole team in form.

    2. Hooky
      • 10 Years

Need to wait until after the midweek games to see it Townsend has anything to play for. At the moment I'd do B and bench Lanzini as Sturridge won't be getting any points.

I get that Studge is a banker for 0, but with only 1 week to play, and plenty of squad strength I need to be focussed on whether Tadic or Long/Defoe wold score more in that final game.

I wager it would be Tadic. Don't you agree?

    Robles / Darlow
    Bellerin / Gabriel / PvA / Janmaat / Cresswell
    Payet / Hazard / Townsend / Mahrez / Milner
    Kun / Kane / Carroll

    Mahrez + Hazard >> Tadic + Sanchez

Thoughts? Think this would be a strong flourish to the season if Chelsea v Leicester ends 0-0 or something.
