Anthony Martial remains a major doubt for United’s trip to West Ham this evening. The Hammers, meanwhile, have no new injury concerns for their final match at Upton Park. Lamine Kone is passed fit for Sunderland’s vital home match with Everton, whilst Lukasz Fabianski will be rested for Swansea’s match with City on Sunday.

Martial unlikely to feature at Upton Park

Louis van Gaal has conceded that Anthony Martial – who suffered a hamstring injury in the warm-up at Carrow Road – remains a major doubt for this evening’s trip to West Ham. When quizzed on the player’s availability, the United boss went on to say:

“I cannot say because we have to wait. If his muscles are still tight I don’t take any risks because he is a very important player. We don’t want a rupture and that is very important for us.”

The Scout Says: Martial’s inability to feature against the Hammers would be a real blow for the 120,000 Fantasy managers that recruited the Red Devils’ form marksman for their double Gameweek. Owing to the Frenchman’s likely absence, Marcus Rashford – having been rested against Norwich City – should reclaim the lone-striker berth against a defence with a single clean sheet in eight, causing Wayne Rooney to drop back into midfield as Van Gaal’s side go in search of a win that would take them above City into fourth. Should Martial prove his fitness in time for the weekend, though, his owners might be tempted to hold if the Red Devils need a victory to seal a Champions League berth for next season. The Frenchman has scored or assisted in five of his last seven starts at Old Trafford and hosts a Bournemouth defence that ranks top for big chances conceded in away ties (41).

Fabianski set for weekend rest

Lukasz Fabianski revealed that he’s accepted Francesco Guidolin’s offer to rest before the Euros and will sit out Swansea City’s home encounter against Manchester City this weekend:

“I was asked if I wanted to play (at West Ham) or not, but I had trained all week so I said I did. It was not really about staying sharp ahead of the Euros – West Ham is a great stadium and I just wanted to play. I will go away now and have a break. Other players wanted a rest (before West Ham), but I wanted to wait. I will go away now and then prepare for the summer.”

The Scout Says: In spite of the no-shows from Gylfi Sigurdsson, Ashley Williams and Neil Taylor at the Boleyn Ground, the Swans still managed to upset the odds and beat West Ham in a 4-1 victory. Nonetheless, investors in the likes of Kevin De Bruyne (two goals in five) and Sergio Aguero (eight goals in six) will be encouraged by the prospect of the big-hitting duo testing stand-in shot-stopper Kristoffer Nordfeldt on his Premier League debut this coming Sunday. Indeed, should United fail to beat West Ham tonight, it would leave City in pole position to clinch fourth and give them everything to play for in Manuel Pellegrini’s final match in charge.

Kone passed fit for Toffees showdown

In yesterday’s press conference, Sam Allardyce confirmed that Lamine Kone has recovered from the minor thigh issue he picked up during Sunderland’s 3-2 win over Chelsea.

The Scout Says: Having started all of the Black Cats’ league fixtures since arriving in the January transfer window, Kone has proved vital to the Black Cats’ survival bid. With a win against Everton on Wednesday set to seal their safety, the Wearsiders (three clean sheets in six) will feel quietly confident about their chances of nullifying a blunted Toffees who have netted a paltry two goals in their last five road outings. Whilst Kone has brought stability, Patrick van Aanholt remains the prime route into the Wearsiders’ rearguard before a trip to Watford – the raiding left-back bagged an assist against Chelsea on Saturday and ranks joint-third among defenders for attempts (six) in his last quartet of starts.

No new injuries for Hammers

Slaven Bilic reported no fresh injury concerns following their heavy defeat to the Swans, meaning that Adrian (calf strain) is the only Irons player consigned to the treatment room:

“We had regeneration training on Sunday and some of them were not out there, but they should all be OK for Tuesday night. Of course we still have one training left between now and the game, but there is nothing major to report and all that.”

The Scout Says: Although – bar a miracle – West Ham are no longer in the discussion for the European places, Bilic’s troops should be motivated to serve up a fitting send-off for the Boleyn Ground following their collapse last weekend. Considering the wealth of forward options at the manager’s disposal, Andy Carroll’s 125,000 new owners will be hoping he retains his starting berth after a disappointing weekend display. Elsewhere among the Hammers’ attacking contingent, the 34% of voters who pinpointed Dimitri Payet as the premier captaincy pick will be hoping the Frenchman can bag his first goal in six starts and justify our collective show of faith.

Baggies hopeful on injured pair

West Brom pair Darren Fletcher and Jonny Evans are expected to recover from knocks sustained against Bournemouth on Saturday in time to line up against Liverpool next Gameweek. Meanwhile, Stephane Sessegnon is also likely to be available after missing the Dean Court encounter due to illness.

The Scout Says: The Baggies’ form at both ends of the pitch (three goals and zero clean sheets in six) leaves a lot to be desired, yet they next match up against a Reds outfit that’s likely to field a second-string XI ahead of the Europa League final on May 18. As such, there’s scope for the West Midlanders to furnish our squads with differential flavour on the last day of the Fantasy calendar. On that note, Craig Gardener ranked top for attempts (nine) and joint-top for shots inside the box (seven) among midfielders in his previous two starts, while Craig Dawson placed second for attempts (four) among defenders during that time frame.

I'm not saying its ok, its just the way football is these days. They could have announced it a couple of weeks after the season, but I like it when teams do their business early instead of the minute panic buys.

Not sure of the situation but info sometimes gets leaked so theres no point holding back. They also want to get in there before they make deals with other clubs, or in the Sanches case before his price potentially doubles if he has a good Euros.

              Comes from Swedens best academy.
Managed as a goalie win PotY in Herenveen 14/15.
Lead Herenveen to EL play offs in Holland each season, this season they came 12th.

Ive actually got more examples than ever this season, Ive never punted so much.
Getting in Caroll and captaining him was pretty awful after he only played 10 minutes, Berahino over Vardy cost me dearly too.
But my captain punts have been the highlight to the season for me.
Payet captain GW 5,Deeney captain last week, so so many.

Best, had Toby, Mahrez and Vardy since GW1.
Worst was having and holding Hazard early on, and on 2 occassions bringing in players early to avoid price rises, only for them to get long term injuries before next PL fixture. Will learn for next season.

All this talk about Lukaku being the ultimate troll has got me thinking. What actually is a troll and what puts a player in the troll category? Who are the biggest trolls this season and why? Surely there must be bigger trolls out there than a player who is currently 4th in the forward rankings and can, on occasions, be very explosive.
Is it the fact that some players perform better against the bigger teams when we least expect them to and perform terribly in the so called easy fixtures? Is it us that have got it wrong in classifying fixtures has easy or hard? And do some teams/players always perform better against other teams/players. What I'm trying to say is, a certain player may always play well and score against Man City but never score against Crystal Palace, we would normally bet that he would score more points against Palace and this analysis may actually make us view trolls in a completely different way.
This might help us in picking certain players against certain teams next season, I would be interested to see what everybody else thinks about this. Sorry if I haven't explained myself very well but I hope you get the gist of it.

A troll is a player who never scores points when he is in your team and scores loads of points when he is in your team . Lukaku had a knack of scoring against big teams when he was on loan at West Brom in particular if I remember correctly . I am not sure how serious people are being when they call Lukaku a troll tbh

I actually think that some people are being very seriously to be honest. Is it possibly that people are picking Lukaku in the wrong games then. Obviously people are picking him in the games he's supposed to score in and dropping him in the hard games.
What about next season, play him in the tough away games and drop him in the so called easier fixtures, It might make a difference and change peoples views on him. I'm not just picking on Lukaku here, there must be multiple players who play better against the better teams.
In my opinion a troll is the complete opposite to a flat track bully. Where a flat track bully will only score points in the easier fixture, the troll is the complete opposite, he only scores in the harder fixtures.
If we could detail this for next season and have a mixture of the two in our squads, it might make a bit of a difference. Saying that, it would still take an awful lot of bottle to leave a top class player out of your term in an easy fixture.
        Food for thought.......

I'd also say it's a player with no predictability whatsoever!

I think Hazard Trolled us all this season.

      1. Shawcus
        • 10 Years
        9 years, 7 months ago

Hazard is actually a great example of what I'm trying to say. His attitude this season is for me the reason he has been so poor. The only time he looked like the player of last season was in the Spurs game when he was obviously up for it.

Surely this is what happens with the so called "trolls". They find it easier to get motivated for the bigger games against the bigger teams so play far better than they do against the smaller teams where their motivation is lacking.

Maybe we need to look at the attitude of some players, players that find it easier to motivate themselves for the big matches will invariably play better than against weaker teams when they seem like they are just going through the motions.

I personally don't think there are any easy games in the Premier League anymore (apart from Villa!) because even the so called smaller clubs in our league can outbid teams like Ajax, Benfica, Porto, and even the big Italian teams to some extent, which means that the lower premier league teams have far better players than they used to have.

It doesn't matter how good a player you are, if your attitude isn't right, then a lesser player with a great attitude will always get the better of you. Which leads us back to TROLLS. Great attitude in the bug matches - Poor attitude in the smaller matches>

Jurgen Klopp has told the Liverpool Echo he has "no idea" who will make the starting XI for the Europa League final and that he does not plan to rest his key names in the final two Premier League games.
"You cannot say, 'We will hold players back for the final.' We have to take what we can get from our last two league games and then we will see."
He added: "Not one of the players who was rested on Sunday because of the intensity of Thursday night was like: 'Yesssssss! How cool is this! Let me stay at home.'
"Instead they were like: 'What? Why me?' They all wanted to play: [Adam] Lallana, Emre [Can], Dejan [Lovren], blah, blah, blah. All these guys. That's a good situation.

Dead as a Dodo around here today.

Can I grab your thoughts on tactics in this situation.

Chasing a 15 point ML leader (approx. given games to go this GW and Payet TC) and have very similar sides. Main differences are:
    Me: Fabregas, Defoe.
    Him: Hazard, Carroll

To narrow that gap assuming its the above should I:
    a) Be punting on players (i.e. Kane>Giroud, Fabregas> Tadic) (4pt hit)
    b) Not taking a hit and pick a non-Sanchez captain?
    c) Make a 'boring transfer' like getting another Arsenal defender to gain 4pts?

Struggling to find the best way to narrow that gap, risk/reward?

    1. The Wise Owl

I think Swansea will be hit by City, but I'm expecting KDB and Iheanacho to be the culprits here.

I'm also expecting Costa because I think LEI might finally switch off...

I also expect Ramsey to do pretty well with all of those late runs into the box and just generally not being picked up.

                Thank you 🙂

I've tried, but still not working.
                    Maybe it's because I'm from Poland ? 😉

Don't think Sturridge will start, final is 3 days after. Giroud might be worth a -4.

How would you feel about Iheanacho, I've never been overly enamored with Gru (FF-wise)

I know that feeling being an Arsenal fan. 🙂 Not sure Iheanacho is nailed enough to justify a hit, wasn't very good on Sunday.
