We continue our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, with a look at Southampton.

To get underway, we assess the Saints’ team statistics in Ronald Koeman’s final year in charge and compare them to the rest of Premier League, before analysing their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources in an attempt to gain insight on their prospects for the upcoming campaign.

The Saints finished in sixth position after embarking on a superb run of form that harvested seven wins and a draw in the final nine league fixtures.

As a Boro fan, Gray has never had a kick against us in two seasons for Burnley and Brentford. Compare him to Callum Wilson in the Championship and theres only one winner for me based on what I saw....Wilson looked a class apart against us.

    Foster, Jaku
    Shaw, wimmer, friend, kone, wilson
Martial, firmino, de bruyne, townsend, hojbjerg
    Aguero, Lukaku, Long

How is this looking? Praying benteke goes to palace and berehino goes to stoke so that i can have extra money to upgrade townsend to tadic and wimmer to baines/chelsea defense with berehino and benteke in my strikeforce.

People with both Ibra and Agüero, will you shift a lot in the captaincy between them?

I mean, paying 11.5 (or 13 for that matter) for a player you'll almost never captain seems like a bit of a waste.

😆 @ "one of the best advanced midfielders in the world''

I've seen every minute of Firmino in a Liverpool shirt and most of the time he's invisible... I wouldn't say he was our best player last season, he was overhyped. Last season he was playing upfront and there's no guarantees of that this season. With Liverpool seemingly in the market for another 10 I'm not sure where he'll fit assuming Studge gets the lone striker role. Mane on the right, Coutinho on the left and Firmino/Lallana/Wijnaldum down the centre? or perhaps Wijnaldum on the left and Coutinho centrally...

In comparison to the previous seasons, relatively speaking, i think this season is all about the big hitters. There's going to be a huge variance in big hitters which will lead to an early lead established if you pick right. There's a great reason for this too.

A lot of unknown quantities amongst the big hitters. And that might lead to a huge variance in points i reckon. The managers we know about have new Marquees (Jose -> Micky + Ibra), the players we know about have new managers (Conte and Pep) and the manager+player combo we are slightly familiar with has poor combos.

Not to mention this doesn't even include the top 2 teams of last season which everyone is betting will regress. (except the casuals maybe).

Aguero will get goals under anyone and Wenger/Sanchez is a tried and trusted combo.

        Has poor fixtures*

But a lot of varience in em big hitters will make the points difference is my point.

I think Baines at 5.5 with those great fixtures could be an amazing deal, especially with Koeman. I know, it's not clear whether he's going to be on penalties but could still get free kick duties and several assists.

Because when people watch him in tournaments, Champions League or Euros, he's not prolific. Playing in an incredibly strong PSG side where they batter everyone regardless he scores loads. Not even sure he'll play every minute, be no1 striker.

Tournaments are a completely different story, every game is played like a cup final, and sweden are crap. He's gonna be playing west brom etc at home he will score plenty, just like he has done for every single team he's played for

Just don't think he's essential like implied, or worth the amount. He's older and slower now, Mourinho plays mostly counter attack, or did. United don't have great wingers and crossers of the ball. Falcao completely flopped, i don't think Zlatan will, but say 14 goals for the season in the league isn't worth the cost. I don't think he'll get much more than that at best.

I'd rather have DDG unless you have Shaw. Don't trust our def atm.

            I have Shaw

I could just play Foster every week I guess

            Foster/4.0 = 8,5
            DDG/4.0 = 9.5

All of them have the potential to be worth it.

I'd have DDG or Courtois if you're going with one keeper throughout

I reckon Siggy or Tadic will be popular choices for best 7.5 mids but also love Feghouli at 5.5. Could be a steal.

I like wilson as a 6.5 strike option

Yeah considered Feghouli, not knowing about him, just looking for one of those foreign signings that make an impact. Fabregas, Willian, Cuadrado all tempting. Siggy, Tadic, i don't know. Can't see them exploding. Gone with Ighalo for now.

Townsend for 6.5 looks strong, Palace nice start to season.

Benteke, if he goes to Palace, also good.
      Long.
      Wilson maybe.

Got Townsend. Looking at Benteke, change from Igahlo. Having two Palace would seem wrong though from there. Had Austin over Long, in minority with that i think.

Selected the wrong country in my profile and the fantasy allocated me to join the league of the wrong country.

I have changed to the correct country but the league remains unchanged. Am I doing it wrong?

The Bournemouth mids are so hard to pick from. I think Ibe has got the talent but not experience,
Gradel was injured a lot of last season but is a quality player at that price.
King was an OOP godsend last season and probably has the most PL minutes of them all.
Stanislas was also a pretty golden 5th mid pick for a while.

With Wilson back, King won't have that OOP possibility, though, right?
