A huge name in US Fantasy Sports, FanDuel arrives on these shores with a game built specifically for a UK audience.

The game has been created from the ground up over the past 18 months, at times involving members of the Fantasy Football Scout community, who were part of a beta test during Euro 16.

FanDuel has launched today and we’re very proud to announce that we’ll be supporting the game throughout the new season, running tips and weekly articles to help guide those of you who get involved.

FanDuel will be hosting custom Fantasy Football Scout contests, including free entry options, and will also be devising tournaments over the course of the 2016/17 campaign.

What is FanDuel?

FanDuel should sit perfectly with the Fantasy Football Scout community.

The concept will be very familiar – you have £100 million to build a team of 11 players and you can enter this selection in as many of the available contests as you choose. You can, of course, create multiple teams and enter numerous contests to increase your chances of winning.

The player prices change week-to-week based on player performance and, as with many of these games, there’s real appeal in attempting to exploit value options within the player list.

That’s certainly what we’ll be trying to help you achieve with our Weekly Shop and dedicated FanDuel articles.

The contests allow you to tinker with your selection right up until kick-off, so if you’re able to monitor team sheets and react quickly to opportunities, these can sometimes offer an advantage.

For now squads for the Gameweek will be locked when the first match gets underway.

This single-deadline rule is soon to be addressed, though. Typically, squads will be locked as the kick-offs go by, so your players involved in the early fixture will be locked first, allowing you to continue to swap out the players in your starting XI who are due to play later.

There are various contest formats to enter and, while those with higher entry fees will typically offer the bigger prizes, there will be large pots available for the smaller entry fee contests, depending on the number of entrants.

Each week, there will always be at least one free entry contest for those looking to get involved.

Why Should I Play?

FanDuel ignored the option of importing their US game mechanics and instead invested in building something new and fresh.

Not only does this mean that the game is tailored to us as Fantasy Football managers, it also ensures that every player starts from scratch.

FanDuel begins as a level playing field.

You won’t be up against veteran players armed with proven methods and complex spreadsheets – even those who have played Daily Fantasy Sports for years will come into this game with little or no experience of the scoring.

That means that the Fantasy Football Scout community and other experienced Fantasy Football managers have the opportunity to become established and successful FanDuel players.

When you delve into the scoring system, you’ll see that it sits well with us all.

FanDuel use a rich variety of match actions, all devised from Opta data, to power their scoring.

Uniquely, clean sheets are only a scoring factor for goalkeepers.

Instead, all players are rewarded for tackles, clearances, blocks and interceptions. Those scoring methods obviously favour defenders, whilst ball-winning midfielders also come to the fore – a rarity for Fantasy Football.

Of course, our Members have access to a five-year archive of all the key data and we’ve already created custom tables to help FanDuel players with selection.

You can view the full FanDuel scoring matrix here.

Our short experience in the Beta over the summer told us that it’s a very well balanced scoring system; there is no single dominating statistic and FanDuel have reacted to feedback to tweak the scoring for the final release.

The game will have you considering players that you’ve never looked at before, building teams that look very different to traditional Fantasy Football lineups. That can only be a good thing.

How Do I Start?

You can register for a free account via this link.

When you sign up, enter the promocode “SCOUT” and FanDuel will refund your first paid entry fee, up to £10, as free entry credit if you don’t win cash

After that, you can begin creating your first lineup and then choose to enter any of the opening weekend’s contests.

There’s a free-for-all contest available in the lobby and we’ve already set up a Fantasy Football Scout contest that offers a total of £200 in prizes.

This costs just £1 to enter and is available for 230 entrants – the top 57 places will collect at least £2, with the winner earning £25 and runner-up collecting £15.

This week and on several occasions over the season we’ll be offering special contest options.

Look out for our full strategy guide to the game next week and also our regular Weekly Shop and FanDuel Focus articles over the course of the season.

How to fit Firmi/Coutinho/pool player in those front 7 ?

    Hazard Tadic Siggy Deulf
    Kun Vardy Wilson

Was thinking Wilson→Origi if we sure he's nailed

Possibly Vardy > 7.5 / 8.0 (i.e. Benteke if he moves) and Tadic > Liverpool mid.

Honestly though, Liverpool's opening fixtures are horrid and they're still a bit unsettled. One oif these guys will bang in a goal or two but it's a gamble as to who. Personally I'm steering clear until the obvious choice stands out.

Benteke to palace would solve many problems yeah...
but Burnly and Arsenal without Wilshere/Caz/Kos/Ozil/Gab/Mert and probably Ramsey and Sanchez looks tasty . Isn't it ?

He's still an Academy player, not yet elevated to the first team squad. Chelsea will have to elevate him before he gets added to FPL.

So I am thinking of playing a 3-5-2 as discussed above.

    Forwards KUN/Grey/Wilson
Mids Haz/Ayew/Mkh or Mahrez/Barley on fixtures and Ramsey on his Euro performance
    Def the 3 F's Friend/Francis Fernandez/Stones/Pocognoli(4.0)

I would rotate Grey and Wilson depending on form fixtures. Is my defense good enough? Would you change any of the mids? I am using my 9.5 mid for either Mahrez or Mkh as of now.

What do I do here folks:

    Heaton, Foster

    Azpi, Shaw, Friend, Taylor, Wilson

    Hazard, Firmino, Townsend, Ibe, Capoue

    Kun, Ibra, Gray

Got 0.5 ITB. I could save it for Haz to Kdb maybe later, could improve Wilson to 4.5 def or I could downgrade Azpi to Terry and go Townsend--->Tadić per se. Cheers guys!

Swap Taylor for another 4.5 as you will only want him for GW1 and won't want to use an early transfer swapping a defender. Rest looks great.

So Baba Rahman has been loaned out to Schalke, & he had this to say about the reasoning for it, “Chelsea manager Antonio Conte told me that he wants his team to be very defensive, but I am a rather offensive full-back..." (Source: http://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/rahman-explains-chelsea-exit-i-am-too-offensive-conte )

But just two weeks ago Conte said this after the 2-0 loss to Rapid Vienna, "In some situations, especially at the start, the team was very deep and too defensive. That’s not what Chelsea are about." ,

"We need to change the mentality in that sense, but I have at my disposal a group of lads who are ready to work."
    (Source: http://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation.com/2016/7/17/12207836/conte-chelsea-have-to-shake-out-skeletons-from-last-season)

In my view, this seems to be more of a "it's not you, it's me" sort of situation with Baba, & Conte just didn't rate him as a full-back all-around. Which leads me to ask these two questions:

Based off your viewing of the recent friendlies, would you say Chelsea have been overly-defensive, or offensive? And do you think that on paper Conte's 4-2-4 he's deployed in the most recent friendlies is too attacking?

    1. Hy liverpool

Maybe he's resigned to the fact that since his defense is a bunch of old men with no speed he has to play defensively.

Harsh, but fair. Cahill has been abysmal (grass is green). They seriously need to get both Zouma back & healthy, but more importantly sign a new CB which would ideally be Koulibaly atm.

Might have something to do with the roles of the fullbacks in this formation. Perhaps Conte prefers the fullbacks to be more defensive. This would make sense if the wingers are expected to stay wide with 2 up front.

      1. Zasa
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 4 months ago

I agree, Ryan. Conte has always preferred two complimentary wing/full-backs in his systems, especially at Juve. He'd usually play a combination of a more attacking Asamoah on the left, & the defensive-minded Lichsteiner on the right. In this instance, you can draw parallels with Azpi on the left playing more as an anchor, giving whoever's on the left-wing (Pedro/Moses/Hazard) more freedom to attack & to link up with the two strikers.

Counter this to the right where you have Aina being the more offensive of the two, & having the likes Willian/Cuadrado drop a bit deeper than the front three at times leaving themselves in a better position to transition to defense. Those two (Willian/Cuadrado) of course have the ability to hold their own on the right, & Aina provides a great link to overlap or play off of.

I could see why Baba was let go, seeing as if you were to play an attacking Baba on the left it'd leave Hazard (assuming Conte does indeed supplant him there) way more exposed. in my view. Azpi provides just what Hazard needs.

      1. Zasa
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 4 months ago

I can see why for sure, but I think it's worth noting that an anchor who'll carry the defensive load like Azpi on the left, releases Hazard more & gives him more freedom to operate & less pressure on the transition to defense.

Fair enough. This 424 malarkey is all a bit bewildering. When I think of 424 I think of two wingers standing on the half way line, at least that's how I played in it when I was a nipper. How is that defensive? I need to watch them play tbh.

It definitely plays like that going forward, Timbo. All four forwards will occupy the same like with Willian a tad bit deeper.

7/10 just for the lack of playing reserves since only Fletcher will play & Wasilewski won't & Jaku is from a poor team & if/when Hull sign another gk he may not play. Also I can see why you have gone Rooney but doesn't he always fail to deliver. I also have my doubts with Townsend as Palace recently got beaten 3-1 by Fulham so I don't rate their attack. Maybe go Deulofeu instead who plays for a much better team offensively.

Cheers bud. Deolofeu is a good shout, will probably get him in. Plan to play Forster most games anyway so saving some cash on the second gk. Already spent 33.5m on the defence plus gks, so might just have to stay with wasi and hopes he gets some games. Rooney will be the highest point scorer in Utd's attack this year, so he stays 🙂

Yeah that's my understanding of it as well. I'm just keen for the different kind of challenge.

Every week there is a safety score which you must equal or better. Those scoring below the safety score will be eliminated.

Mods when are we expecting Team News tab to come back and the watchlist to be updated? Early next week or before a day or two of GW1?

I see a lot of Rooney in rmt's. Every year people go with him & every year he fails to deliver. Sure I can see why people want a piece of United attack with him being the cheapest option but I wouldn't be overly confident he'll fire. For an extra 0.5 you could go Mkhi/Martial who show much more potential.

Rooney was good when SAF was in charge. Two seasons under LVG was always going to dent Rooney's potential. I guess the hope is that a more direct approach under Mourinho will be better for Rooney, especially with the talent around him.

    ----------------Foster----------------
    Azpilicueta----Shaw----Fernández----Pieters----Friend
    Hazard----Sigurdsson----Deulofeu----Bolasie----Fischer
    --------Agüero----Ibrahimovic----Gray--------

Seems decent, not sure chelsea defence will deliver on first weeks thought.. Any other have knowledge on Fernandez, have no idea myself..

        undecided between Fernández & NTaylor

in your opinion, who is more nail?

I'd say Taylor is more nailed of the 2 but last years stats favour Fernandez
          Taylor - minutes played 2,947 - points 89 - bonus 4
          Fernandez - 2,880 - 98 - 12

I have Fernandez based on this. Fernandez played less minutes but scored more points/bonus points.

I would give this team 7/10 with a solid 15 players. Azpi & Shaw may not get cs's in gw1 although they are great picks. I remember last year West Ham had a poor pre-season but came out firing in gw1 & seemed to play better away. Coupled with this is Chelsea's aging defense. United will be missing Smalling in gw1 coupled with the fact that Bou. are an attacking team.
I'd much rather downgrade Fischer to a 4.5 & upgrade Bolasie as I think Palace are a poor team offensively so I'd rather have Deulofeu or Miralles who play for a much stronger team offensively.

Terry not nailed, fab played too defensive in the friendlies. Lukaku if he goes to Chelsea. Needs Hazard. 6/10 🙂

I like VVD & I see you have him rotating with Reid which is good on paper but are we really that confident in West Hams cs potential. You could go Sunderland (Kone) instead which saves you 0.5. With Midd in gw2 I reckon they can keep a cs. With West Ham you'll be expecting a cs & when they don't you be bummed. Sunderland you won't expect a cs but when they do you'll be happy. I would also downgrade Williams to Fernandez/Naylor which saves another 0.5. So that's 1.0 saved in defense which you can beef up your m/f. I'm not sure having a top heavy attack like you have is advisable because your midfield really suffers.

Ibra really worth getting when you can just get Mkhitaryan? I own the midfielder but I'm constantly frightened without Ibra in my team. It just means I have to play a cheaper midfielder every week.

    It's like, Ibra + £4.5 mid or Mkhitaryan + £6.5 striker. I just don't know...

I have 7 left for the final spot in my team(already have Del boy).
    should I go for:

    A) Lamela (3-5-2)
    B)Gray/6.5 (3-4-3)

If B then I can also downgrade one of my 4.5 keepers to a 4 and then upgrade firmino to mahrez.

Who's more likely to retain a false 9 position once Lukaku is back? Mirallas or Deulofeu?

Who's likely to be more nailed on?

    Thanks.

I wouldn't call it a false 9 tbh. They've been playing with one up front so I'd expect it to be Lukaku. I'd day Mirallas is slightly more nailed due to lack of competition for his place.
