The Knee Jerk

You could nearly make a half decent eleven with the players who didn’t play this Gameweek. I was tempted to sit and try and get a team together just to highlight this fact and, well, I could have done it but it got a bit contrived. (Alex Baptiste?)

Needless to say there was a number of high profile absentees which left some gaping holes in players teams and pushed peoples benches to breaking point. Of those missing Nasri, Adam and Alex were irritations but it was the absence of out of position defenders El-Mohammady and Coleman which will have got players worried.

Much is made of the out of position player and to find one is, well, it’s great. To find two therefore is, without wanting to sound lame, absolutely amazing. Many will have both these players as their respective price, attacking potential and ability to keep clean sheets will have made them obvious picks. To have them both out and to etch doubts into our collective minds about their ability to start games going forward is an unwanted distraction. Indeed many have already discussed potentially taking these players out of their teams.

One key thing to consider and remember is the fact that at this time of year, as games come thick and fast, Premier League managers do tend to rotate. This is especially true in situations where games come on Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday. It’s important to take a FFS team deep breath, step back and appreciate the fact that rotation does happen, particularly with players of lower value. This is the knee jerk and the knee jerk reaction is to remove these players. Going forward we don’t know if this is just a rest or if this is a long term issue therefore it’s worth waiting to see what will materialise. For example in Coleman’s case Fellaini’s late red card should lead to a shuffle in the Everton midfield. This could mean Heitinga being called into the centre or a re-call for Coleman.

Elsewhere it was another week of captains under performing. Before the games (and particularly during) people were talking about dropping Drogba, Fabregas and Malouda. Whilst there may be some merit in considering other options such as Torres, who appears to have found his goal scoring form, surely it is only a matter of time before these big hitters begin to find form again. As such my logic follows as above, hold tight. Knee Jerkers (the players, not the articles) tend to act quick, spend points and regret their moves a couple of weeks later. Patience is advised.

Overall though its fair to say these midweek games have been ones to forget. Thankfully we only have to wait two more days until the weekend. Expect more rotation and more headaches going forward. Stay tuned on the site and through our Twitter for updates.

    Im sticking with my team:

    Foster/Krul
    Simpson/Jagielka/Boateng(O'Shea)(Elmo)
    Adam/Fabregas/Nani/VDV{Albrighton)
    Drogba/Elmander/Piquionne

5.1 in bank. Figure that I will see if Elmo starts this weekend, and O'Shea and then next week I will cut O'Shea and Alrbighton to start, in a possible 4 point hit to clean up the team.

    Thoughts? Thank you please

Cheers boys, not sure yet Inalize. Am thinking O'Shea OUT Vidic IN next week, after that I am not clear on moves, so I said I would be better off waiting.

Had 43, captained Drogba, should of captained Piq or Fabregas, but Drog seemed the "safe" option!

Really struggling this week for a change.

Narrowed myself down to 3 options.

    A) Berb + Nasri to Gerrard + <6.0m Forward (Davies, Elmander or Carroll)
    B) Berb + Nasri to Torres + <5.5m Midfield (N'Zogbia, Albrighton, ???)
    c) Berb to Tevez

C has no point hits, but I want rid of Nasri before his price decreases. I like the idea of a Bolton forward, a bit of a differential, but it would leave my attacking 3 looking very weak. Piquionne, Odemingie and Elmander for example, with a very strong midfield of VdV, Nani, Malouda, Fabregas and Gerrard, with the cash to swap Malouda for Lamps if need be. And easy options to downgrade for a more expensive forward?

Defence is sorted for the time being, Simpson, Elmo, Coleman, Knight and A.Cole. Keepers need some work, but that can wait til WC week.

My thinking too, as much as I'd like Torres, if he performs well, so does Gerrard, but even in a bad match Gerrard will still come away with points.

Carroll can then be swapped in for WB or WH forwards when time is right and they lose form.

        Other option is Kuyt?

          Ah, done it!

Who to bench now, I didn't think this through.

          Schwarzer
          Simpson Knight A.Cole
          Malouda Fabs VdV(c) Gerrard
          Piquionne Elmander Odemingie
          Subs: Foster Nani Coleman Elmo

Think I might swap Mal for Nani?

You don't need to transfer anyone this week, unless you are looking at a defender, who would you bench out of your midfield? Because I don't think you would be looking to have Carroll or Drogba on your bench

Just do Torres and Nani, Scotty. Krul has a (I hesitate to say "good") favourable game at home to Fulham.

Avoid point hits wherever possible. Especially in such low scoring gameweeks - for me anyway.

Whoever you drop could really end up hurting you, that's the problem with having a such a good front 8! I can't recommend dropping anyone, if I was you I'd be hoping for news of an injury / rotation, maybe Malouda or Drogba will get a rest. Carlo should let us know before Sat.

Why wasn't Carlton Cole on pens, FFS!

Had Scott Parker and Torres in my team at 1am Tuesday morning and clicked on transfer only to be told the players value had changed. Torres had gone up .1m! So I cancelled the move and brought in Carlton Cole.

I feel a little bit sick.

Hi. I think your side is decent, how about getting a Newcastle player for a WBA player? Over the coming gameweeks I'd also look to get Nani in, but 3 Chelsea players will be very good for this gameweek, hmm.

I basically think that team will come good. I'd probably do Dorrans to someone this gameweek and save the other freebie for next when you can decide again on your Chelsea players.

compounded by the fact i went for Obinna over Piquonne... and Arteta over Cahill the week before that.

Worst start to a FPL year EVER in two ways... both in that i've been dealt a rotten hand every week without fail (i'm not completely blameless but seriously... 767,000?!?), and that the unpredictability of this year's PL results have so far, in general, rewarded FF naivety over calculated risks.
