Anyone think that it's time to drop Newcastle defenders now that Saylor is out? Will they allow more goals without him?

Centre back partnership is probably the most critical double act in a team. I'd fancy Norwich scoring and I'm wondering how it will affect Newcastle going forward.

That sounds silly on the face of it, but if you lose a goal and you're chasing the game, it's much more difficult to create chances.

I think that's why the the possible return of Tiote next week will be important to newcastle

Hadn't considered that, but yes, there aren't many better than Tiote at shielding the back 4. Guthrie hasn't done badly though.

Saylor and Colocini complemented each other well, and it may take Perch some time to settle in. I don't think Perch is in the same league as Saylor... certainly from a leadership and experience perspective. Not as dominating in the air, either.

what do I do with VDV?

I was Think'n VDV to Bale , Then Simpson to R.Taylor

my Team would look like this

    Krul/Vorm
    Kompany, Enrique,Williams, R.Taylor (Barnett)
    Silva,Mata,Bale (N.Dyer, B.Johnson)
    RVP, Aguero, Ba

or should I just keep VDV ?

I've decided I have to get Bale just because it will hurt my rank if he scores big again.

Hernandez to Welbeck/Sturridge (Have Ba already)

Im already regretting my kneejerking vdv out for Bale.

Happy enough to lose VDV given the continuing price falls, rotation , and injury risk

BUT i now thiink would of been much better to bring in Nani instead

I already have Jones but need a replacement for S Taylor and have 5.3m to spend.

Smalling seems like the best candidate to me but also trying to hold off till after champs league before making the transfer, but will have to do it if Taylor is due to drop beforehand.

for the first 3 numbers 4 is the number of possible numbers that can be used. For the last 2, 5 can be used. So, 4 by 4 by4 by 5 by 5 permutations?

Your answer would be correct, I think, if the question was asking you to pick 5 numbers from the SET {1,2,3,4,5}. Where you could legitimately have 21111, and numbers along those lines.

the first three numbers have to be out of their original position. this means that for each of those positions you have 4 choices at all times. For the final two positions you can have all 5 numbers. 4by 4 by 4 by 5 by 5. Final answer

                First number:

                4 choices; 2,3,4,5.

                Second number:

4 choices if the first number is 2; 1,3,4,5.
3 choices if the first number is not 2; 1,3,5.

                etc. etc.

It's really not. That would imply that after choosing the first four numbers, you still have five choices for the final number, when you clearly only have one.

                    it's a very simple permutation

The way to do this might be to work backwards, i.e. find all permutations that involve at least one of 1,2,3 staying in the same place, then subtract that from 120.

For each of 1,2,3 staying the same place: there are 4! permutations
So 3 x 4!, then subtract the perumtations you counted more than once, i.e. where at least 2 of 1,2,3 remained the same.

                    Does that work?

That is exactly how to do it.

                    120 - (24 + 24 + 24) + (6 + 6 + 6) - 2 = 64.

                    5! - 3(4!) + 3(3!) - 2! = 64.

                    Bam! Thanks a bunch.

So I think that would make:
                    5! - (3*4! - 3*3! - 2!)

                    = 56

sounds right. the combinations is to the power of 4, because you rotate 1 digit around to move to a new configuration that suits your initial requirement.

I said 'sounds right' anyway.. you should draw a diagram showing your hypothesis, explain why you are right. then the burden of proof is on whoever wants to prove you wrong.
