We delve into the Gameweek 2 data this Wednesday evening in the first members article of the week. Man United and Sunderland’s new midfielders impress on their first starts, Eden Hazard and Harry Kane’s contrasting fortunes arrive under analysis, whilst Michail Antonio thrives on his return to the Hammers’ flank.
Fun Fact: Bournemouth have two players with the surname 'Wilson', two players with the surname 'Smith', and two players with the surname 'Cook'.
Think this is a great article here about the prototypical, ignorant, lazy, simplified, void of reason reactions from the English media/coaches regarding foreign managers & Guardiola in particular:
http://www.umaxit.com/index.php/columns/why-the-attacks-on-manchester-city-pep-guardiola-are-nonsensical
Tactics-schmantics, right? It's truly no surprise why the England team has been woeful & under-performed for so long. Most English coaches are so close-minded & defensive about new ideas, & ways of thinking that challenge this lazy status-quo in England's football culture right now. It's baffling in all honesty. Truth of the matter is that the PL has been way, way behind to La Liga & the Bundesliga for the last decade or so in terms advancements tactically & embracing new ideologies. The PL's clubs laughable performances in the CL (& EL) is pretty evident of this.
I hope this great line-up of foreign managers in the PL this season, with the additions of Conte, Guardiola, & Puel (Mazzari to a lesser extent) wholly improves the quality of football being played, & allays the irrational fears of change that's so prevalent right now.Well said, and as a Southampton fan I hope you're right adding Puel to that list.
Re the article I agree with the overall view. I don't think caballero is good with his feet at all though so I can understand questioning that particular decision!"I don't think caballero is good with his feet at all though so I can understand questioning that particular decision!"
He isn't. Pep is making a bold statement and clearly indicating his future plans for him.*future plans for Hart
Ha, yeah, the Caballero decision may have been down to Hart acting like a child & his reported unwillingness to play the way Pep wanted him to also. I do think he's a bit better at playing from the back though, definitely no Bravo though 😉
Typically, these managers bring wealth to the clubs they manage. The club owners are satisfied with their results and team management. However the England national team suffers with potential stars not even making the starting eleven on a regular basis. Lingard,Rashford, Loftus Cheek, Oxford,Wilshere, Chamberlain, Chambers, Delph and now Alli and are seldom even considered for regular starts under the current management regime. I doubt very much if England will ever find any success in a major national team tournament with the current system being deployed by Premier League teams. Clubs think profit and winning games over bringing new talent into the national team.
Great point. This is pretty telling as well, it's data for the total minutes played by teenagers across the top leagues last season: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Ci6oyuCWUAAaRDP.jpg
Worrying signs indeed. At least some of those foreign managers are known to give these youth talents their dues to prove themselves & develop properly.
The problem with the English team is that they all play in the Premier League.
Have a look at the German / Spanish / Brazilian / Belgian teams. All playing in different leagues.Yup, that as well. Morrison led the way at least, eh?
& for those interested, give 'Inverting the Pyramid: The History of Football Tactics' a good read. The author, Jonathan Wilson, gives a fascinating breakdown & 'autopsy' of English football. Emphasizes on how influential the English game was, but at the same time touching on how it's also been one of the most regressive.
Don't worry, Big Sam will sort the England team out...
Spot on zas
Guys I need quick help. Quick glance at my squad and I saw George friend is injured. Already used up my 2 ft. Currently 0.9itb and my subs are Kinsley and lenihan both won't play. Who is the best 5.0 defender? And should I just wc at this point or take a hit?
1)williams
2)funes mori
3)Morgan
? Who is more nailed on at Everton with jagielka in the picture too?-4 or WC ? Seems very tough decision for you ....
In all seriousness I wouldn't even think about WCing ... kingesly might play btw but if not sure go for Williams (eve have good fixtures)
Not Mori
Don't take a hit. I played Evans last week and he scored 0.
Just play Friend and hope for the best. Not worth the -4It might be. Bringing in someone like Williams with multiple good fixtures should easily repay 4 points over a few weeks. It would also remove potential pressure to wildcard and remove someone who is not actually playing anymore
On another note, how about using the all out attack chip? This chip never really appeals to me and I could save my FT to swap in Williams next week.
My current squad:
Foster
Stones/Valencia/
Capoue/Hazard/Lamela/Tadic/Barkley
Kun/Ibra/Gray
Lenihan/Friend/Kingsley/JakuSave that for double game week.
Misguided. There are much better chips to use in a DGW
AOA ??
This
Foster
Shaw Stones Friend
Hazard Özil Ramírez Capoue
Agüero Ibrahimovic Benteke
Jakupovic Routledge Amat Pieters
anyone worth a hit?
1.6m in the bank
starter and benching correct?
good to go?
thanks in advanceStart Routledge instead of Capoue.
Seconded.
will do
thanks both
cheers
How does this team look
De Gea/Robinson
Walker/Williams/Collins/McAuley/Morgan
Capoue/Barkley/Mane/Pogba/Redmond
Auger/Ibra/Diomandenot too bad. id be doing something like
Mane > Townsend/Lamela
Pogba > Sterling/Tadic
Diamonde > Rondon/Benteke
but i guess those moves are abit dull compared to picked like mane and Pogba. Goodluck if you stick.
payet>ozil -4 good move or wait one more week
Wait. Not worth -4, and only a maybe if it was free imo
not a transfer id make
Thoughts? On a WC:
Foster (Jaku)
Valencia/ Friend/ McAuley (Robertson/ Amat)
Redmond/ Townsend/ Lamela/ Hazard (Hojberg)
Aguero/ Ibra/ LukakuLooks good all around. Nice team
been toying with that front three myself. opting for benteke though and tadic over townsend, with a slightly different defence. nice team, very similar to my wildcard team.
With friend being a doubt, and not trusting amat or pieters for returns this gw, im toying with the idea to bring in a new defender for pieters.
Over the short term and for possible price rises without using WC next couple weeks. Who is my best option to replace him with?
0.5 ITB 1 FT
A) Stones
B) Williams
C) play amat or Pieters
Or D) AOAWilliams over Stones because of Everton's fixtures, but I'd look at brining in a someone like McAuley from West Brom or Friend from Boro (assuming Friend plays this weekend after picking up a knock today) to save money for future transfers.
I have friend and that's why I have the dilemma. But I do like McAuley as an option, just not sure about the double up with foster in net.
williams for me
B
Williams as for long term you would need an Eve defender for thier fixtures
Thanks all, I've heard a lot of love for Williams and not much for stones.
play diomande or capoue this week
Diomande
cap
is westham defense that bad?
why are people choose kun over ibra?why are people choosing kun over ibra?
both options are good. hull will go strictly for a shut out i reckon meanwhile wham might be a little more open.. and city at home against anyone really id probs pick kun
thanks for sharing
do you think hull can shut united? No i think it will be a comfy united win. 2-0... City my tip would be 3-1.. but these are only my predictions 😛
WHU isn't the same like last year (because of Injuries may be) + at Home + better attacking team (with better attacking players around him) + better player .
Oh wait I don't have ibra 😀you poor thing. I didnt have him the opening two weeks.. i couldnt bare feeling the way i felt anymore.
what do you mean by not the same as last year? west ham were atrocious in defence last season, they played 'we'll let you score 2 as long as we score 3' type of football.
I meant in general defensive or offensive they aren't the same . They were very good vs strong sides
2 W vs Liverpool
2 D vs city
1 D 1 W vs Arsenal
1 D 1 W vs Chelsea
Don't think they would make these results again ... may play well when all players come back .ahh gotcha. yes they somehow performed exceptionally against the bigger sides last season. i'm sure it was an anomaly.
Aguero for me, purely because he's last game of the weekend. 8)
What time are pressers today.
Can anyone update in here. Thanks11am
On WC. Anyone else nailed for 4.5 in Middlesborough back line?
Hey all
2 FT what to do?
Foster
Evans Shaw Morgan
Mahrez Hazard Ramirez Tadic
Kun Ibra Gray
Jaku Friend Amat Hojbjerg
A) Gray --> Rondon
B) Evans/Friend ---> Holgate
C) A + B
D) Something else
CheersA may be
Keep Evans & Holgate won't keep his place with Coleman due back and Williams starting from now on.
I would go A
Friend injury is messing up my plans. Any preference?
a) Play Amat (lei)
b) AOA (Capoue vs ARS)
c) FT -> Kone to McAuley (I have Foster already)
Mid and FWD is strong - so I was hoping to save a FT this week and use after the Int break - when no doubt I'll need to ship someone out due to injury...Why not Friend to McAuley?
Just because of the uncertainty around Kone I guess
Good morning DZ.
What's the best transfer?
Foster Jakupovic
Shaw Stones Friend Kone Amat
Sanchez Firmino Redmond Duelofeu Capoue
Aguero Ibra Rondon
0.5m. 2FTs.
Want to give Firmino and Sanchez another week.
A. Stones to Williams
B. Duelofeu to Bolasie
C. Any other suggestions?
Thanks.I would give Stones a chance. City have 3 good fixtures in the next 4
I would do Kone to WilliamsCheers. Is the Friend injury serious?
No word yet. Waiting to hear from docs
Kone to Williams and Deu to Bolasie
I took a punt on Bolasie this week. Everton fixtures are too tasty to ignore!
Schmeichel
Valencia / Evans / Stones
Hazard / Bolasie / Firmino / Redmond
Kun / Grey / Zlatan
Jaku / Capoue / Friend / Pieters
GTG?Strong - if Bolasie nails a starting position I will be getting him in too
Strong team - isn't Evans a doubt for this weekend - some knock apparently ?
Yeah he is. I might have to start Pieters (away to Everton) instead or Friend who is also 75% chance.
They are always 75 before news
Morning guys, how are we all?
Anybody like myself considering taking a 'punt' on Pogba? I've £8.7m for a midfielder and him, Barkley, Hazard and Redmond looks delicious. Still not sure though.I wud wait for a game
Anyone else sell Vardy to Ibra before Ibra first rise worried about Vardy going ballistic?
No point worrying about that.
I have swapped Vardy for Ibra. It is a risk - no doubt but m willing to take it. I thought of taking Ibra last week - repented then. Hoping he goes on a goal spree against Hull lol
I went Vardy -> Ibra this week.
I do have a sick feeling Vardy is going to score/assist a number of goals. I hope he doesn't.
Worth considering Defoe or should I just go with Negredo or Rondon? Defoe has form and really solid fixtures coming up too.
Negredo, would argue he's cheaper, in better form, has just about better fixtures and plays for a similar (if not arguably better) team than Defoe
I'd take defoe over those two personally.
I'd take gray over Defoe though.Rondon over Gray?
Read the OP then read my reply
Would of been easier to write "yes" but yeah I get it now
But the answer is no 😕 😀
With Friend potentially (likely) out this week, play Capoue or Diomande (was playing 4 at the back)
Diomande imo
Does Barkley play in the hole...
Jaku/Heaton
Valencia/McAuley/Amat/Holgate/Stones
Redmond/Hazard/Mane/Barkley/4.4
Kun/Ibra/Negredo
Good to go?Not sure of Holgate's long term playing time, he looks good but faces competition.
Who's your playing 4.4?I agree. I'm still debating Holgate. I'm open to suggestions.
The 4.4 guy isn't a starter. It's just a filler because I have no more money. Don't think there are any good midfielders for 4.4. I'm thinking De Pena from Middlesbrough.I'd downgrade Stones to a decent 4.5 and go with a playing mid.
That would mean a playing mid for 4.9. Capoue probably, but I doubt I'd ever use him when I have 3 good strikers. Thanks. I'll think about it.
Agree with this
WC-team. Just not happy with it...
Foster-Jaku
Shaw-Stones-Williams-McAuley-Amat
Hazard-Tadic-Barkley-Bojan-Capoue
Aguero-Ibra-BentekeGood team don't know why you aren't happy with it ... may be because many have teams like it (without using their WC) ?
Are there any 4.4m defenders?
Big urge to get Bolasie.
Deu-Bolasie for a -4?Nope it doesn't worth it . Keep him and reassess next week (at least you would know who is nailed from mirrallas/bolasie/deul)
I sold him btw but for free earlier this weekThe big urge is mainly because of his cheap price. Don't be tempted until he's nailed and you see some results.
Oscar or tadic likely to drop before deadline?
Nope .
But may I ask why would you keep oscar champ? Be a champ and sell him 😀I'm not mate. Doing oscar > tadic. Just wondering if I might get a tadic drop beforehand.
😀 good move this ..
I'm giving Oscar 1 more chance I think
As a chelsea fan, I can assure you Oscar is very unlikely to ever reach the level of consistency you guys are hoping to see. Ship out imo.
Doubt it -10% and -27%
Cheers
As an Oscar owner I am worried he starts on the bench
Unless conte wants to start batshuayi and Costa together I don't see why oscar would be dropped. He is playing very well.
Bats is in exceptional form and Fabregas hasn't been bad either
Yeah batshyayi definitely pushing for inclusion
As a Chelsea fan. He bloody isn't playing well, we lack creativity with a pivot of him and Matic. Fabregas will start at weekend ahead of Oscar.
You're doubling up on Soton champ? Have Oscar too and unsure who to to for between Tadic and Barkley
Yup.
See the appeal of Barkley but I prefer tadic personally, for now at least. It's the next fixture that's holding me back 😐
VARDY for captain against Swansea at home anyone???
If you have Ibra or Kun captain them
Hi! How is she looking?
Foster
Valencia | Stones | McAuley
Townsend | Hazard | Redmond | Lamela | Barkley
Kun | Vardy
Heaton | Gray | Friend | Pieters
0.3 ITB, 1FTWC team
Heaton, Jaku
McAuley, soaure, Valencia, Amat, Love
Hazard, Mane, Lamela, Redmond, Capoue
Aguero, Ibra, Benteke
How does it look?I personally like Bentekke pick ... but is he completely fit to start?
other option is to have Rondon/Gray/Negredo instead of Bentekke.
and upgrade Lamela/Mane to Ozil may be??I should think he will start, 90mins or not hard to say. I think Benteke would be a good pick given his previous records at villa. With the supply of crosses from midfield at palace, he should shine. Dont really fancy arsenal for the time being. I think Mane and Lamela will be key to Liverpool and Tott respectively this season.
Current team.
Courtoise / Jakupovic
Friend / Byram / Evans / Stones / Shaw
Alli / Redmond / Ramirez / Capoue / Jedinak
Aguero / Zlatan / Costa (1 Free transfer & 3.4 in the bank)
Should i use wild card or wait??I would WC.
Down Costa to Lukaku/Benteke?
Alli and Jedinak to Lamela/Sterling/Barkley and Mahrez/Hazard/Martial?
