Fun Fact: Bournemouth have two players with the surname 'Wilson', two players with the surname 'Smith', and two players with the surname 'Cook'.

Think this is a great article here about the prototypical, ignorant, lazy, simplified, void of reason reactions from the English media/coaches regarding foreign managers & Guardiola in particular:

    http://www.umaxit.com/index.php/columns/why-the-attacks-on-manchester-city-pep-guardiola-are-nonsensical

Tactics-schmantics, right? It's truly no surprise why the England team has been woeful & under-performed for so long. Most English coaches are so close-minded & defensive about new ideas, & ways of thinking that challenge this lazy status-quo in England's football culture right now. It's baffling in all honesty. Truth of the matter is that the PL has been way, way behind to La Liga & the Bundesliga for the last decade or so in terms advancements tactically & embracing new ideologies. The PL's clubs laughable performances in the CL (& EL) is pretty evident of this.

I hope this great line-up of foreign managers in the PL this season, with the additions of Conte, Guardiola, & Puel (Mazzari to a lesser extent) wholly improves the quality of football being played, & allays the irrational fears of change that's so prevalent right now.

Well said, and as a Southampton fan I hope you're right adding Puel to that list.

Re the article I agree with the overall view. I don't think caballero is good with his feet at all though so I can understand questioning that particular decision!

He isn't. Pep is making a bold statement and clearly indicating his future plans for him.

Ha, yeah, the Caballero decision may have been down to Hart acting like a child & his reported unwillingness to play the way Pep wanted him to also. I do think he's a bit better at playing from the back though, definitely no Bravo though 😉

Typically, these managers bring wealth to the clubs they manage. The club owners are satisfied with their results and team management. However the England national team suffers with potential stars not even making the starting eleven on a regular basis. Lingard,Rashford, Loftus Cheek, Oxford,Wilshere, Chamberlain, Chambers, Delph and now Alli and are seldom even considered for regular starts under the current management regime. I doubt very much if England will ever find any success in a major national team tournament with the current system being deployed by Premier League teams. Clubs think profit and winning games over bringing new talent into the national team.

Great point. This is pretty telling as well, it's data for the total minutes played by teenagers across the top leagues last season: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Ci6oyuCWUAAaRDP.jpg

Worrying signs indeed. At least some of those foreign managers are known to give these youth talents their dues to prove themselves & develop properly.

The problem with the English team is that they all play in the Premier League.

Have a look at the German / Spanish / Brazilian / Belgian teams. All playing in different leagues.

& for those interested, give 'Inverting the Pyramid: The History of Football Tactics' a good read. The author, Jonathan Wilson, gives a fascinating breakdown & 'autopsy' of English football. Emphasizes on how influential the English game was, but at the same time touching on how it's also been one of the most regressive.

Guys I need quick help. Quick glance at my squad and I saw George friend is injured. Already used up my 2 ft. Currently 0.9itb and my subs are Kinsley and lenihan both won't play. Who is the best 5.0 defender? And should I just wc at this point or take a hit?

It might be. Bringing in someone like Williams with multiple good fixtures should easily repay 4 points over a few weeks. It would also remove potential pressure to wildcard and remove someone who is not actually playing anymore

On another note, how about using the all out attack chip? This chip never really appeals to me and I could save my FT to swap in Williams next week.

          My current squad:

          Foster
          Stones/Valencia/
          Capoue/Hazard/Lamela/Tadic/Barkley
          Kun/Ibra/Gray

With friend being a doubt, and not trusting amat or pieters for returns this gw, im toying with the idea to bring in a new defender for pieters.
Over the short term and for possible price rises without using WC next couple weeks. Who is my best option to replace him with?
    0.5 ITB 1 FT
    A) Stones
    B) Williams

Williams over Stones because of Everton's fixtures, but I'd look at brining in a someone like McAuley from West Brom or Friend from Boro (assuming Friend plays this weekend after picking up a knock today) to save money for future transfers.

          2 W vs Liverpool
          2 D vs city
          1 D 1 W vs Arsenal
          1 D 1 W vs Chelsea

I agree. I'm still debating Holgate. I'm open to suggestions.

The 4.4 guy isn't a starter. It's just a filler because I have no more money. Don't think there are any good midfielders for 4.4. I'm thinking De Pena from Middlesbrough.

I'd downgrade Stones to a decent 4.5 and go with a playing mid.

That would mean a playing mid for 4.9. Capoue probably, but I doubt I'd ever use him when I have 3 good strikers. Thanks. I'll think about it.

WC-team. Just not happy with it...

    Foster-Jaku

    Shaw-Stones-Williams-McAuley-Amat

    Hazard-Tadic-Barkley-Bojan-Capoue

    Aguero-Ibra-Benteke

Good team don't know why you aren't happy with it ... may be because many have teams like it (without using their WC) ?

    Are there any 4.4m defenders?

    Big urge to get Bolasie.

    Deu-Bolasie for a -4?

Nope it doesn't worth it . Keep him and reassess next week (at least you would know who is nailed from mirrallas/bolasie/deul)

I sold him btw but for free earlier this week

The big urge is mainly because of his cheap price. Don't be tempted until he's nailed and you see some results.

I'm not mate. Doing oscar > tadic. Just wondering if I might get a tadic drop beforehand.

As a chelsea fan, I can assure you Oscar is very unlikely to ever reach the level of consistency you guys are hoping to see. Ship out imo.

Unless conte wants to start batshuayi and Costa together I don't see why oscar would be dropped. He is playing very well.

Bats is in exceptional form and Fabregas hasn't been bad either

As a Chelsea fan. He bloody isn't playing well, we lack creativity with a pivot of him and Matic. Fabregas will start at weekend ahead of Oscar.

You're doubling up on Soton champ? Have Oscar too and unsure who to to for between Tadic and Barkley

        Yup.
See the appeal of Barkley but I prefer tadic personally, for now at least.

    WC team

    McAuley, soaure, Valencia, Amat, Love
    Hazard, Mane, Lamela, Redmond, Capoue
    Aguero, Ibra, Benteke

    How does it look?

I personally like Bentekke pick ... but is he completely fit to start?
other option is to have Rondon/Gray/Negredo instead of Bentekke.
and upgrade Lamela/Mane to Ozil may be??

I should think he will start, 90mins or not hard to say. I think Benteke would be a good pick given his previous records at villa. With the supply of crosses from midfield at palace, he should shine. Dont really fancy arsenal for the time being. I think Mane and Lamela will be key to Liverpool and Tott respectively this season.

    Current team.
    Courtoise / Jakupovic
    Friend / Byram / Evans / Stones / Shaw
    Alli / Redmond / Ramirez / Capoue / Jedinak
Aguero / Zlatan / Costa (1 Free transfer & 3.4 in the bank)

Should i use wild card or wait??

      I would WC.
      Down Costa to Lukaku/Benteke?
Alli and Jedinak to Lamela/Sterling/Barkley and Mahrez/Hazard/Martial?
