An impressive first-half display was enough to see Liverpool beat Chelsea in their own backyard for a second successive season.

Phillipe Coutinho played his part, eased into the Liverpool starting XI courtesy of Roberto Firmino’s untimely groin tweak; he was back amongst the points. As was Diego Costa, who maintained his relentless early season form without seeing yellow. Here’s the Stock Check following Friday’s action…

On the Rise

Diego Costa
Another goal and no booking, this version of Costa undoubtedly requires serious consideration.

Many recruited the Chelsea man as an understudy for Sergio Aguero until Gameweek 6; he has passed that audition.

Some will surely be pondering their options before clicking the eject button to welcome back the City man. Having returned in each of his five Gameweeks, with five goals so far, they will be considering a downgrade in midfield to retain Costa’s services.

However, the Spaniard will need to demonstrate fixture proof qualities to maintain such form: Arsenal, Leicester City and Manchester United arrive in the next four Gameweeks.

Philippe Coutinho
Having blanked in three Gameweeks since his big haul at Arsenal, the Brazilian returned to the Liverpool line-up and provided a delicious assist for their opener. That was enough to seal him two bonus points.

On a night when Roberto Firmino missed out with a minor injury, Coutinho took his opportunity to strengthen the hold on his 28% Fantasy Premier League ownership.

In Decline

Eden Hazard
Okay, it’s too early to panic but, given the competition for spots and funds in our squads, Hazard can’t afford to embark on a run of blanks.

Three points from his last two rings alarm bells, as does the dip in his vital statistics – Hazard has mustered two goals attempts over these two blanks, compared to 14 from the opening three Gameweeks.

The Chelsea Defence
Liverpool have had a tough opening with four away trips in the first five. However, Antonio Conte’s outfit don’t have that excuse.

The Blues have enjoyed three home matches but have just the shut-out against Burnley to show for it.

With a combined ownership of 39%, Chelsea’s back five are expensive investments and, with the aforementioned tough fixtures to come, future returns appear limited.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Firmino's different in a way if you've had him since the start. Losing him now means you're not getting an immediate rise back to 8.5m once he goes back, so Mane will have to double rise to justify the transfer.

"There's really not a lot wrong with him but no-one could give me a guarantee that if he tried today it wouldn't get worse."

"It is a little issue with the muscle. I had to make a decision and I'm taking no risks at this early stage of the season."

A.Sterling and Luk to 4.5 and Kun (Play Capoue 4th)

B Sterling and Ibra to Lallana and Kun

    Currently-
    Hazard/ Ozil/ Antonio/ Capoue/ Sterling
    Benteke/ Aguero/ Ibra

I'm currently looking at C giving Capoue a chance as 4th mid.
Ibrahimovic has two home fixtures and great captain option GW7 not sure I'd want to lose him just yet.

        Yep C then Sterling >> Firmino GW7

  9. Nabs Kebabs
    • 14 Years
    9 years, 4 months ago

Assuming Firmino is fine I like the look of Hazard to Firmino, Benteke/Bony to Kun for free, gives me something like this

    Heaton
    Valencia Evans Pieters
    Sanchez Payet Firmino Redmond
    Kun Lukaku Benteke/Bony

    Pickford Collins Hojbjerg Amat

Hazard is not just a knee jerk. I was thinking he was expandable even before the Liverpool game because his fixtures are poor for a while now (would probably never captain him in next 3 months)

Thoughts on this moves? Could even do Haz to Mane and Luka to Kun.

Bony had 4 attemps last week vs Spurs (3 in box) and Tekkers only had 1. I think i actually slightly prefer Bony when you consider his better fixtures aswell. It's a bit early to jump to conclusions though, will have to monitor closely this gw.

    Torn on whether to WC..
    Foster, Heaton.
    Valencia, Baines, Stones, Friend, Amat.
    Ozil, Hazard, Barkley, Lamela, Hojbjerg.
    Lukaku, Benteke, Ibra.
    0.0m in bank, 1ft.

My team is decent but no Aguero is a big concern and the likes of Barkley, Lamela at risk- Hazard not really perfoming.. etc.

    What would u do here?
    1. 1ft- where?
    2. Save ft
    3. 2 transfers or more for hits.. (where?)
    4. WC!

WC effort.. (I can foresee lots of changes).
    Stekelenburg, Pickford
    Valencia, Baines, Holebas, Stones, Amat
    Cazorla, Mane, Antonio, Pereyra, Hojbjerg
    Benteke, Ibra, Aguero

0.6m in bank if I move for these atm.

    1. Sz21

1 option if not WCing is
      Ibra/Barkley = Aguero/Pereyra for a -4.

Will see how my players do later..
Don't want to be hanging on though with players who aren't performing.

Please, I beg of you, recycle this WC draft. Investing in those 5 heavy hitters completely destroys your squad. Playing Capoue & Fletcher is less than ideal, & your defense is in trouble vey soon considering West Brom's tough run, & relying on West ham defense week in & week & out is shoddy at best in my view.

        For this season:

I think one of the key decisions for us WCers are if were committed to playing Capoue as a 4th mid. Otherwise, just sell for a 4.5, and use the 0.2 elsewhere. As I plan to have Deeney, this may be my plan.

I also plan on Aguero/Ibra/Lukaku front line which is why I'll be playing Capoue

Could work out great, gl. Just not convinced by his stats, but if Ibra and Lukaku and others do the business this weekend, I'll revist

            Hey all,

            Quick question.

Is this front 8 too light in midfield?

            Antonio, Cazorla, Firmino, Arnautovic, Capoue

            Lukaku, Ibra, Kun

            Thanks in advance

I'm .1m off getting zaha as my 5th mid. Price drops have killed my I should have done the transfers before the changes. Not sure who's gonna be the 5th mid

How did Studge play today. He is a machine when he gets going. Considering Kun and Studge for a 2 man front line.

Studge not worth getting imo. Much better options in Mane and Firmino

I have just enough cash to have Sturridge rather than Firmino. i might way til he does something first.

better to get Erikson or Liverpool mid i guess

Just had a look at how to get Aguero back in my side.

    Aguero and 5.5

    Or this

    Firmino and Costa

As much as I like the latter, I feel going without Kun is too much of a risk.

I ditched Capoue so I would probably go crawling back.

Would leave a midfield of Hazard or Sanchez, Sterling, Antonio, Snodgrass and Capoue

Ibrahimovic and Aguero up top with 4.5 bench fodder though. Got a strong defence though as play 442 occasionally instead of 352

True if a player like Bolasie excels then he would be an option. Still have high hopes for Bellerin, Valencia, Stones and Baines to compete with the like of Benteke, Deeney, Bony etc

I am planning to downgrade one of them to fund Gray->Aguero.
Both are facing difficult fixtures, which one are you looking to offload first?

      Bit of both.
He a lovely comfort to have, own and captain but these last few weeks with no Aguero make the game more fun imo.
Look at this weeks capt poll, would have been Aguero by miles.
