An impressive first-half display was enough to see Liverpool beat Chelsea in their own backyard for a second successive season.

Phillipe Coutinho played his part, eased into the Liverpool starting XI courtesy of Roberto Firmino’s untimely groin tweak; he was back amongst the points. As was Diego Costa, who maintained his relentless early season form without seeing yellow. Here’s the Stock Check following Friday’s action…

On the Rise

Diego Costa
Another goal and no booking, this version of Costa undoubtedly requires serious consideration.

Many recruited the Chelsea man as an understudy for Sergio Aguero until Gameweek 6; he has passed that audition.

Some will surely be pondering their options before clicking the eject button to welcome back the City man. Having returned in each of his five Gameweeks, with five goals so far, they will be considering a downgrade in midfield to retain Costa’s services.

However, the Spaniard will need to demonstrate fixture proof qualities to maintain such form: Arsenal, Leicester City and Manchester United arrive in the next four Gameweeks.

Philippe Coutinho
Having blanked in three Gameweeks since his big haul at Arsenal, the Brazilian returned to the Liverpool line-up and provided a delicious assist for their opener. That was enough to seal him two bonus points.

On a night when Roberto Firmino missed out with a minor injury, Coutinho took his opportunity to strengthen the hold on his 28% Fantasy Premier League ownership.

In Decline

Eden Hazard
Okay, it’s too early to panic but, given the competition for spots and funds in our squads, Hazard can’t afford to embark on a run of blanks.

Three points from his last two rings alarm bells, as does the dip in his vital statistics – Hazard has mustered two goals attempts over these two blanks, compared to 14 from the opening three Gameweeks.

The Chelsea Defence
Liverpool have had a tough opening with four away trips in the first five. However, Antonio Conte’s outfit don’t have that excuse.

The Blues have enjoyed three home matches but have just the shut-out against Burnley to show for it.

With a combined ownership of 39%, Chelsea’s back five are expensive investments and, with the aforementioned tough fixtures to come, future returns appear limited.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Would you WC with this lot?

    Foster, Heaton.
    Valencia, Baines, Stones, Friend, Amat.
    Ozil, Hazard, Barkley, Lamela, Hojbjerg.
    Lukaku, Benteke, Ibra.
    0.0m in bank, 1ft.

My team is decent but no Aguero is a big concern and the likes of Barkley, Lamela at risk- Hazard/ Ozil not really perfoming.. etc.

    What would u do here?
    1. Save ft
    2. 2 transfers or more for hits.. (where?)
    Maybe- Ibra/Barkley = Aguero/ Pereyra? -4.
    3. WC!

    WC effort..
(I can foresee lots of changes).
    Stekelenburg, Pickford
    Valencia, Baines, Holebas, Stones, Amat
    Cazorla, Mane, Antonio, Pereyra, Hojbjerg
    Benteke, Ibra, Aguero

0.6m in bank if I move for these atm.

        Probably yes..
This GW will hopefully reveal more.

Good fixtures and they are capable of big returns.
If they both show good signs... may just go for a hit.

If they are struggling then a WC looks likely.

In a very similar position to you.
Same front 3 plus Hazard Ozil Lamela Valencia Foster Stones.
And I am definitely considering WC.

Reason being this looks like an ideal time to change things up.

Repost due to posting in the wrong place. 🙂

    Hey all,

    Quick question.

Is this front 8 too light in midfield?

    Antonio, Cazorla, Firmino, Arnautovic, Capoue

    Lukaku, Ibra, Kun

    Thanks in advance

Very good fixture cover team actually. Definite punts in there but could work. Arnie will become more popular with those fixtures.

      • 10 Years

Not at all, looks great. Just not sure about Arnie. I might prefer to have Mirallas/Lamela (depending on how they perform this week).

        9 years, 4 months ago

        Thanks guys.

Yeah arnie is a punt, but as you said he does have the fixtures on his side and I expect Stoke to improve after a tough start fixture wise.

His upside over the others you mentioned is he is 100% nailed on when fit, on some set pieces and assuming Bony doesn't now take them could be on some pens (according to who's on the field).

He'll also have the added benefit of now having a target man upfront in Bony, so whilst it may take time for them to click, you'd think this would improve on his impressive stats last season considering they struggled for an outright No.9 the whole time.

        Thanks for your input. 😉

Thoughts on this lot, saved up 2 FT and have 0.1 left over:
    Heaton, Pickford
    Valencia, Williams, McAuley, Evans, Amat
    Hazard, Ozil, Mane, Antonio, Capoue
    Ibra, Lukaku, Benteke

Looking at this side I am very happy with it however I feel Aguero is essential and needs to be brought back. Ideally I would like to get rid of Benteke out of my current 3 strikers but I am in need of help. I also think Ozil would be the mid to make way for someone cheaper.

    1. Daniyal

Benteke to Aguero will cost you about 5.4

  7. Forlorn Hope

Can someone explain the logic of nearly 33000 managers selling Aguero after the deadline last night so that his price dropped! Surely if you have held him for the two games he missed suspended, you hang on to him when he is free to play again? Don't get me wrong, I love the price drop as I'll be buying him back this week. But what the hell are some people thinking?

They had not factored in the midweek league cup match I'd imagine. Also, if you were intending to WC this week, you could have transferred him out at 13.0, bought him back at 12.9 and only then activate your WC. In this way the transfer out gets counted by the algorithm .... but I doubt whether 33000 are that devious.

Best option here? A) is viable given Capoue's fixtures, but I'd also like some LIV in there for their decent upcoming run.

    A) Haz & Benteke -> 4.6 & Kun
    B) Haz & Benteke -> Firm & Lukaku
    C) Haz & Santi -> Firm & Mane

    Cech
    Baines, Valencia, Collins
    Sanchez, Haz, Antonio, Santi
    Ibra, Benteke, Defoe

    Pickford, Capoue, Amat, Kone

    Heaton, Jaku,
    Baines, Valencia, Evans, Holebas, Amat,

I dont get why people dont have two 4.0's. Thats the best way to balance the books so youre never out by like 0.1.

Amat & Kingsley are starters and even if they werent, you should have 3 starting defenders anywaym

      Evans to Pieters.

Stokes fixtures improve now and WB's get tougher.

Pieters will also offer attacking potential if Hughes sticks with the wing back system.

I'd personally go for Pereyra in that price bracket but didn't know if you had your mind up on those 2 as your only options or not.

I'm a Juve fan first and foremost so my bias might be coming into play here. Keep an eye out on how he plays against United at home, at his best I think he is by far the best option you can get in that price bracket with Snodgrass coming second and Bolasie third. Just my opinion though.

Will be tough to go back to the Aguero Zlatan template for me so the decision between the two is still an easy one imo with Aguero in a Pep team looking like he could explode at any given moment. Hazard blanking just makes the decision easier and I need to get my hands on one of those Liverpool players for this decent run of fixtures upcoming 🙂

Then again it's Liverpool, the team that notoriously puts the good teams to the sword and lays an egg to the "lesser" teams.

I am pretty sure pool would have avoided The Burnley Incident had Mané played that game. A great can opener, and I believe they will perform also against lower tier teams....

Liverpool has scored most goals in 2016 so far

their attack has been bolstered by mane and look more dangerous now

        nice. i could do hazard + ibra --> Kun + firmino/cout for 2ft

or just Ibra--> Kun with 2m in the bank

Not bad! I think the run on liverpool midfielders will start revving up now with their fixtures turning and Hazard blanking back to back games. Initial plan was to drop Alexis though so I'm hoping for some returns tomorrow to make the Hazard decision easier haha

Yup! Strange how Hazard has gone from absolutely essential to trade-worthy in two weeks though (in my mind at least) but I think this really is the season where you have to jump on/off the "right" players at the right time or will be left far behind.

Aye. I also believe he was played too wide, if this changes his appeal and output will probably rise again

Clyne played brilliantly last night. Completely took him out of the game.

Agreed, a shame his FPL output doesn't match his overall game, which is quite brilliant.

I think you could be right. However my plan to get Kun back relied on selling Sanchez 🙁

Only way I can afford it.

When looking Arsenal and Liverpool fixtures list it does make sense to sell Hazard. Eden doesn't score much away and tough looking home games to come.

yeap difficult fixtures and successive blanks means his appeal is decreaisng

likes of kdb alexis mane payet has greater chance outscoring him in the next month or so

Who do we prefer out of Firmino or Mane. Got a feeling Mane could do well vs weaker teams due to his pace whereas Firmino might drop deeper to set up plays.

Mane has around 11 goals in both his previous seasons. Can see him scoring 15-20 goals in a better attack under klopp

Firmino could get slightly fewer goals but could be rotation risk with sturridge ?

Can't see Sturridge competing for a spot seeing the work rate of Firmino and Mané, which I'm sure is making Klopp swoon

Head says Firmino heart says Mane. Mane is just a joy to watch and that is really the reason swaying me in his direction.

i had no idea there was an early fixture..as a result, i'm sitting with an unactivated 24 pt hit wc team...with half the players just there for rises..i messed up big time..season over

I just don't get why people don't activate the WC straight away. The impact a handful of people would have on price rises by waiting until later in the week seems hardly worth it. Anyway, don't want to kick you while you're down. Hard luck mate - just keep plugging away, 24 points isn't your season, and you still have your WC.

      Bad luck.

24pts isn't season over by any stretch. You can make that back up.

If it makes you feel any better, I started in gw2 last season and played just to win a cash mini league.

I did over 65 transfers throughout the season, won the mini league and finished around 60k overall in the ranks.

Just think of it as a late gw2 start where everyone else got a rubbish 24pt gw1 score head start.

      You'll be fine. 😉
