An impressive first-half display was enough to see Liverpool beat Chelsea in their own backyard for a second successive season.

Phillipe Coutinho played his part, eased into the Liverpool starting XI courtesy of Roberto Firmino’s untimely groin tweak; he was back amongst the points. As was Diego Costa, who maintained his relentless early season form without seeing yellow. Here’s the Stock Check following Friday’s action…

On the Rise

Diego Costa
Another goal and no booking, this version of Costa undoubtedly requires serious consideration.

Many recruited the Chelsea man as an understudy for Sergio Aguero until Gameweek 6; he has passed that audition.

Some will surely be pondering their options before clicking the eject button to welcome back the City man. Having returned in each of his five Gameweeks, with five goals so far, they will be considering a downgrade in midfield to retain Costa’s services.

However, the Spaniard will need to demonstrate fixture proof qualities to maintain such form: Arsenal, Leicester City and Manchester United arrive in the next four Gameweeks.

Philippe Coutinho
Having blanked in three Gameweeks since his big haul at Arsenal, the Brazilian returned to the Liverpool line-up and provided a delicious assist for their opener. That was enough to seal him two bonus points.

On a night when Roberto Firmino missed out with a minor injury, Coutinho took his opportunity to strengthen the hold on his 28% Fantasy Premier League ownership.

In Decline

Eden Hazard
Okay, it’s too early to panic but, given the competition for spots and funds in our squads, Hazard can’t afford to embark on a run of blanks.

Three points from his last two rings alarm bells, as does the dip in his vital statistics – Hazard has mustered two goals attempts over these two blanks, compared to 14 from the opening three Gameweeks.

The Chelsea Defence
Liverpool have had a tough opening with four away trips in the first five. However, Antonio Conte’s outfit don’t have that excuse.

The Blues have enjoyed three home matches but have just the shut-out against Burnley to show for it.

With a combined ownership of 39%, Chelsea’s back five are expensive investments and, with the aforementioned tough fixtures to come, future returns appear limited.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

The team to concede most penalties last year was Norwich with 10 pens conceded. Behind them were West_Ham, Watford and Sunderland with 8.

Add to that Mike Dean reffing the Sunderlang-Spurs game this week. Kane(c) 😎

    Morning all,

plenty of price changes last night! Pieters at 4.4m with the fixtures to come will be tempting. It's just whether the fixtures will coincide with some good performances from Stoke

Pieters whose team concede 3 or 4 goals per game will be almost essential

        I have yeah.

I could have gotten Aguero back for free or even a hit without issues but I want a Liverpool mid I think.

If Lamela, Redmond and Barkley go crazy today then it'll have maybe been a mistake to wildcard but chances are they won't.

Plus I have Souare in defence and Friend who aren't ideal

Had made decent money till now so chanced keeping my WC for later, will have to give the rises this week a miss, hopefully not too many risers as a lot will have WCed 😉

Getting Kun for my FT this week unless disaster strikes in the form of injuries and I am forced to WC

Do you not think the Liverpool mids are a bit of a lottery?

Last night Mane and Lallana blanked, Henderson scored, how do you pick one?

Also, they are approaching a run of games which they tend to struggle in, when teams defend deep they struggle to break them down and even make a mess of them at times, are they really essential? Granted they look good on paper but it rarely works out that way.

Currently don't have any Liverpool or Arsenal. Have hazard who was going to be a season keeper but he looks less effective last 2GWs and has tough run of games including a bunch of difficult away games. Have sterling who had quiet game last week and threatened for pitch time by Leroy?

Obviously I will wait to see how sterling, KDB, cazola play today but initial thoughts on the following (have 2FT):
    A) hazard + sterling -> de Bruyne + cazola
    B) hazard + sterling -> de Bruyne + firmino/ Coutinho

Bolasie, hard to ignore his fixtures and the early signs of an understanding with an inform Lukaku looks very profitable. He also has the attributes to be in the bonus points given the role he's playing.

Not convinced by Zaha or his fixtures, and Snoddy still has tough fixtures to get through.

Bolasie's fixtures get tougher around the same time Snoddy's improve so you can always swap the two at a later stage.

Conundrum. Costa scores again. If Lukaku and Ibrahimovic both score this weekend who do I drop for Aguero?

With fixtures and no European involvement I'm leaning towards Ibrahimovic as I prefer retaining Costa to Hazard and Lukaku has the easiest schedule for the next month

There's only one there that is scoring at an unsustainable rate. And he doesn't score many points considering. Oh and he'll be banned in no time.

I've wildcarded with 3.2m ITB ready for Costa>Kun. It's a tough call! Other option is not keep Benteke and downgrade Hazard to a 7.9 mid for a hit but I've only just got him in!

My only concerns re Costa is he's on 3 yellows, his hammy will go at some point, Haz is on pens, and Aguero/Ibra/Costa is very top heavy.

Going to have to mull it over..

Costa also has no European football and has been really consistent so far. 5 games 5 goals says it all

      I say Costa.

I think he's capable of consistently scoring, but with consistent yellows and little bonus points I think the other two have a higher points potential.

They also have the better fixtures.

    A. Costa > Aguero

Decided to take a gamble regarding pricing and play it safe regarding points.

Decided not to make a move last night. Aguero dropping to £12.9 is great, and I'm surprised and pleased Gray hasn't dropped. However, Mané rising means I'm in the same position today.

Liverpool looking good, but they seem to struggle to break down lesser teams who park the bus - or is this a myth?

Just thinking does this mean that Coutinho becomes more of an option with his confidence and ability to shoot from range?

We'll probably should say he isn't scared to shoot. If you don't buy a ticket you can't win the lottery.
