An impressive first-half display was enough to see Liverpool beat Chelsea in their own backyard for a second successive season.

Phillipe Coutinho played his part, eased into the Liverpool starting XI courtesy of Roberto Firmino’s untimely groin tweak; he was back amongst the points. As was Diego Costa, who maintained his relentless early season form without seeing yellow. Here’s the Stock Check following Friday’s action…

On the Rise

Diego Costa
Another goal and no booking, this version of Costa undoubtedly requires serious consideration.

Many recruited the Chelsea man as an understudy for Sergio Aguero until Gameweek 6; he has passed that audition.

Some will surely be pondering their options before clicking the eject button to welcome back the City man. Having returned in each of his five Gameweeks, with five goals so far, they will be considering a downgrade in midfield to retain Costa’s services.

However, the Spaniard will need to demonstrate fixture proof qualities to maintain such form: Arsenal, Leicester City and Manchester United arrive in the next four Gameweeks.

Philippe Coutinho
Having blanked in three Gameweeks since his big haul at Arsenal, the Brazilian returned to the Liverpool line-up and provided a delicious assist for their opener. That was enough to seal him two bonus points.

On a night when Roberto Firmino missed out with a minor injury, Coutinho took his opportunity to strengthen the hold on his 28% Fantasy Premier League ownership.

In Decline

Eden Hazard
Okay, it’s too early to panic but, given the competition for spots and funds in our squads, Hazard can’t afford to embark on a run of blanks.

Three points from his last two rings alarm bells, as does the dip in his vital statistics – Hazard has mustered two goals attempts over these two blanks, compared to 14 from the opening three Gameweeks.

The Chelsea Defence
Liverpool have had a tough opening with four away trips in the first five. However, Antonio Conte’s outfit don’t have that excuse.

The Blues have enjoyed three home matches but have just the shut-out against Burnley to show for it.

With a combined ownership of 39%, Chelsea’s back five are expensive investments and, with the aforementioned tough fixtures to come, future returns appear limited.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Up as everyone gets him back in. Each time the clock strikes midnight players who have loads (there's a website you can check their status) of transfers in or out can go up or down in value by 0.1m. I think there is a cap each week so each player could only go 0.3m one way in a week. Google fpl statistics to get live data of price changes. If a player is over 100 or under - 100 when clock strikes midnight they will likely change for the new day. 🙂

they are good as a team, it's almost impossible to predict who will score more points Firmino, Mane, Coutinho, and there's Lallana,Henderson, Sturridge and Milner on pens.

i like the fact that firmino plays false nine, which should result in more goals or assists than a someone put in the midfield or on the wing

I'd have thought the false 9 would mean more goals from mane and coutinio. Allows them to bomb forward?

Mane was fairly well shackled and it was obvious Chelsea were focused on keeping him in check, hence Liverpool's goals and the majority of their attack came from the opposite flank.

Coutinho and Gini were busy as usual, and Lallana and Henderson were impressive in a more defensive sense.

Wouldn't read too much in to that performance considering both sides tactics (Chelsea sat deep and allowed Liverpool to press). You can be sure of one thing, and that's that all of their mids will be amoungst the goals given their fixtures and impressive forward press.

If Chelsea struggled with it you can be sure the lesser teams aren't going to get much joy from playing them.

Some of the best opportunities to TC last year didn't occur in a dgw. Aguero 5, Wijnaldum 4, Sanchez vs Leicester. You just don't know and I for one am willing to take a chance. A lot of rotation during dgws as well.

A few questions about Kun's price so reposting this from yesterday:

For those wondering what will happen to Agüero's price once he is cleared from suspension. So the flag will be removed on Wednesday night after City's cup game and then his price target will be reset to 0.0%.
According to http://www.fplstatistics.co.uk/ "when a player has been suspended and his status is changed to fully available his price will be locked". To have an idea of how long Kun's price will be locked you can search Dembélé on the link above and click the + sign on the left column to see the date his price is unlocked (18 Sep). Dembélé was cleared on 10th September so that is 8 days. Now I don't know if it will be exactly the same for Kun, but looks like his price target will stay at 0.0% for about a week no matter how many transfers he gets in at that time.

He'll only get 2 or 3 days of 'useful' transfers before GW7 deadline. I don't think he'll go up until after this. I would imagine most who want him will have already brought him in.

He takes set pieces so chance of assists. Trouble is Arsenal don't score many from set pieces. And yes mostly pens

Yes and yes I'm pretty sure although, he may take some corners but I'm not too sure

    3. VS10_

Well, he plays in the double pivot, but has more attacking freedom than Coquelin/Xhaka. Check his average position from last game and it's not too bad compared to Özil. Takes most corners and free kicks, so it's either penalty goals or set piece assists.

no, he has assist potential too, on corners & some fks
+ has a great through ball when the opportunity arises
great value pick @ 7.7 imo

    5. devils advocate
      • 11 Years
      9 years, 4 months ago

Basically plays the attacking role in the deep lying double pivot but has more freedom to get forward and join the attack.

He's on indirect free kicks, some corners and pens.

There is the risk that he becomes the 'Silva' type player and often assists the assitor, but unlike Silva he has a great shot from distance so will grab the odd goal from open play.

His main worth is in pens and set pieces, and the fact that the clamp down on holding in the box will favor pen takers. He also has great fixtures coming up so presents a nice cheap way into an Arsenal side that can score plenty goals against the weaker sides.

There is a risk of rotation once Rambo is back, but to be honest I think he's too important to the team and I think Wenger will find a place for him regardless, even if it's on the opposite flank to Sanchez.

What to do, what to do, what to do???

Assuming Lukaku blanks today (to make decision slightly easier, perhaps):

    A. Lukaku & Hazard - Kun & Bolasie
    B. Benteke & Hazard - Kun & 5.1mid
    C. Ibra & Payet - Kun & Antonio
    D. Hold off on Kun for a little while
    E.. Other suggestions most welcome

    My current squad :
    TV: 101.5 (0.4itb)

    Foster/Pickford
    Baines/Ballerin/Shaw/Evans/Amat
    Hazard/Payet/Cazorla/Snodgrass/Capoue
    Ibra/Lukaku/Benteke

    http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/20160916/wenger-my-verdict-on-granit-xhaka

"It’s not about his quality at the moment, he adapts to the pace of the English game and for me it’s about pairs as well who work together. You know, Coquelin and Cazorla have worked well together but [Xhaka] will play games and every week he is stronger and better. I think he will have a huge impact as a player."

"We have always had good midfield players and we wanted to add to this quality. He and Elneny are top-class players and there is big competition in the team at the moment. I’m sure both of them will get in the team."

The latest news are he's facing late fitness test ahead of Hull. The problem seems to be his big toe but I don't think it's too serious. If he's fine now I'd start him because he needs to play more than 20 minutes per game and when he came on against PSG he made the difference. But Wenger also said he won't make many changes so maybe only Xhaka in and Coq out. I saw him in a lot of predicted line ups but I just can't guarantee you nothing.

Giroud also isn't on list with doubts for today's game on official site: https://i.gyazo.com/6a46861166fdd37b0dcaf7ab2872a7b8.png

I can't see in Wenger's head but I do know that we have a lot of midfielders in the team who are waiting for their chances and he'll be at least rested at some point. He's safe for now but Ramsey is coming back soon and then there's even bigger risk for rotation. If you have him keep him but if you don't I think twice before buying him.

I think Aguero looks even more fixture proof in this Pep team so wouldn't be put off by the Spurs fixture. We know what he did to them a couple seasons ago, and whilst this is a better Spurs side, it's also a better looking City attack.

Looks nice...and I'll probably go with something like that..

Prob is no arsenal....I'm only keen on sanchez really and don't see how to squeeze him in...

    Is this WC team crazy?
    Heaton - Pickford
    Shaw - McAuley - Holebas - Mee - Amat
    Sanchez - Firmino - Antonio - Capoue - Hojberg
    Lukaku - Zlatan - Kun
The reason for the weak defence is that no one is keeping CS this season...

EVE, TOT, WBA & United have kept 2 so far. Reckon Koeman's team will add to that looking at their fixtures for what it's worth.

A- hazard and tekkers > Aguero and 4.5 fodder then play Capoue as 4th mid

B- hazard, ibra and Collins > Aguero, Mane and Holebas for a minus 4

    WC team:

    Foster - 4.0
    Baines - Shaw - JEvans - Holebas - Amat
    ____ - _____ - _____ - ____ - Capoue
    Aguero - ____ - Benteke

    Which trio to fill in:

    A. Hazard + Firmino + Cazorla + Antonio & Lukaku
    or
    B. Sanchez + Firmino + Antonio + Bolasie & D.Costa

Debating on how to bring in Aguero:

    Foster (Pickford)
    Valencia Williams Collins (McAuley Amat)
    Sanchez Ozil Payet Antonio Hazard
    Lukaku Benteke (Diomande)

    0m ITB. 2 FT.

I'm thinking Lukaku + Hazard for Kun + Bolasie maybe.

Pick the best 2 for a WC team:

    A) Evans
    B) Kone
    C) Smith

      A & B

    2 FT.

    A) Hazard and Costa to Aguero and Bolasie - frees up 1.1 mill

    B) Sanchez and Costa to Aguero and Cazorla

Need that extra cash for additional moves later? If yes, then A. Otherwise, I'd go with B. Reckon Costa will add to his cards tatty vs. ARS.

The extra money would be nice, you never know really. I mean I do have Puncheon as 4th mid so maybe the 1.1 would be wisely spent there a week later!

Huh -- fair enough. I guess I am biased cos I am locked into Hazard for the season. But getting rid isn't a travesty -- however you get your points.

          Maybe Punch > Bolasie?

Live dangerously, have him as your 2nd.

But in all seriousness, if he still continues scoring and ends the season with 10+ goals -- not bad for a 4th MID
