We’ve now launched our latest captain poll to canvas your opinion on the likely favourites and differential options for the armband in Gameweek 6.

You can find the poll in the middle column of the homepage or at the bottom of the same page on mobile.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

With 17 players earning double-digit Fantasy Premier League points hauls in Gameweek 5 there is already an abundance of choice for the captaincy.

That selection gets even tougher this Gameweek when early season armband favourite Sergio Aguero (12.9) returns from a three-match suspension to travel to Swansea. With three goals in as many Premier League games and Manchester City looking unstoppable as an attacking force, the Argentine is nailed on to be among the poll favourites.

For the 76% of FPL managers without Aguero his team-mates, Raheem Sterling (8.4) and Kevin De Bruyne (10.7), offer strong alternative options. The midfield duo have five goals and seven assists between them this season.

One of Gameweek 5’s double-figure FPL wonders, Romelu Lukaku (9.3), could even snatch a lead over Aguero, on the back of four goals in the last two games. The Belgian travels to a Bournemouth side that has conceded the most “big chances” in so far. Lukaku, who has the most shots on target over the last two matches, has been drafted in by 66,660 FPL managers since Saturday.

Liverpool’s midfield offers a raft of viable captaincy candidates this week.

Robert Firmino (8.4), Sadio Mane (9.0) and Philippe Coutinho (8.1), all have two goals and an assist each already and host a Hull City side that tops the goal attempts conceded both in and out of the box tables. Of that trio, Coutinho is the most owned in FPL, with 27.9 managers showing faith in him.

For those looking to take a risk a side in form, Watford offers a series of candidates ahead of their visit to Burnley: they’ve claimed just one clean sheet this season.

Etienne Capoue (4.9), the surprise leading FPL points scorer and top owned midfielder, has four goals already and will surely be promoted from the bench to many Fantasy managers’ first XI this Gameweek.

In attack, Troy Deeney (6.9)’s penalty-taking prowess could be tempting as could Odion Ighalo (7.3)’s resurgent form. The Nigerian has fired off more goal attempts than Diego Costa and Alexis Sanchez over the last two Gameweeks.

A special mention also goes to last Gameweek’s poll leader Zlatan Ibrahomovic (11.9), who has shed more than 51,000 FPL managers this week following Manchester United’s lacklustre display against Watford.

The big Swede, who has the most goal attempts of any striker over the last two Gameweeks, will be hoping to add to his four goals and assist  this term when champions Leicester City drop in on Old Trafford.

The only player to match Ibrahimovic’s goal attempt tally over the last two Gameweeks is Michail Antonio (7.3), who looks another strong armband candidate when Southampton visit the Olympic Stadium on Sunday.

Antonio’s 14% owned West Ham team-mate Dimitri Payet (9.4) is another to consider, after notching an impressive four assists in the last two Gameweeks.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week, as we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering our view of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Does this team need a WC this week?

    Foster, Heaton
    Valencia, Williams, Stones, Friend, Amat
    Hazard, Firmino, Lamela, Redmond, Capoue
    Ibra, Lukaku, Benteke

Im leaning toward yes... only have 1 free this week, need to get Kun back in, worried about lack of Arsenal mid, Lamela and Redmond are a concern and while the defence is ok still have question marks over United defence and Stones playing time.

Had almost the same exact team, Wced to get Aguero, Sanchez, Antonio and Deeney in mainly, fixed my defence.

My new habit of early transfers continued last night when I purchased KDB. He's just too good to ignore right now. Aguero obviously the priority but I feel you need both. Sterling a less reliable option.

Very good enabler at that price, AW loves him so I think his spot is secure. I had to ship Hazard to do it, just couldn't get rid of Sanchez.

Agree KDB is a great option, but prefer Sanchez/Ibra to go alongside Aguero. Sterling is less reliable, but for 2.3 cheaper I think he is the way to go if you fancy a City double up.

This is the choice many are faced with.

        A) Sterling + Sanchez
        B) Cazorla + KDB + 1m

Not much in it but I just feel B is better because Caz has penalties and KDB is more reliable than Sanchez

Think even tripling up with Aguero, Sterling and KdB could pay off long term, no need to spread it if City continues to score 30% more goals than their closest rivals, which they very well might

Considering a move from Cazorla to Coutinho for a -4 (I have Sanchez, no other Liverpool-players). I can stomach the hit to get Liverpool "cover" and to avoid doubling up in midfield.

Cursing myself for being 0.1 from getting my main target Firmino, I am now wondering if that might be a blessing in disguise.....

Firmino will probably be ready, but I am uncertain of how many minutes he will get. Coutinho played 82 mins last, bagged an assist, and his set pieces involvment and shot stats from outside the box is pretty high (though, not much on target - yet).

Hull leads the shots conceded from outside the box, and just got a red card-suspension in the back 4. Curtis Davies is a monster, but might not affect shots from OTB in a similar way.

Also factor in Couts high general ownership, and a price rice imminent. I am wondering if this might be Phillipe´s round to shine. Thoughts?

    Foster

It's kinda pointless getting Deeney as a 3rd striker if you have Capoue as your 5th MD right? I mean you'll be rotating 2 Wat players and most likely choose Deeney always due to pens and end up looking at Capoue's points on the bench again

The problem is the cheap striker though. I think i'll go with Kun Lukaku/Ibra and a cheap third but am unsure who. Way better value in MD's at the cheaper range. This WC has me flumuxed 🙂

Ya that's what I'm thinking. Capoue next 2 and Snoddy's fixtures turn good then in GW 8. Should Capoue blank in the next two it will be an easy decision to bench him in GW 8 then. If not it will be a coin toss.

Man alive there are some price swings this week.

My bank account is being smashed by missing out on KDB for Haz, Redmond and Barkley falling, Kane out injured.

The Haz/KDB one has already cost .3 I think. However, I’ve already mentally prepared myself to getting KDB at 11mill!

Is this defense too weak on WC?

    Cech Pickford
    Lovren Williams Holebas Kone Amat

Really want Arsenal and Liverpool defs for the forseeable.

Cool. Heaton rising to 4.6 was annoying, I like 5.5 for an Arsenal CS.

Dont think so. Im not sure about Liverpool defensively, but if they tighten up the defence with the easier fixtures coming Lovren could be a great pick. Cech giving Arse cover and Williams a good choice. Kone will be leaking more than the Titanic though

Looks fine to me KOL. Do you not prefer having a WBA in there over Kone/Lovren?

Liverpool arent keeping CS any time soon

If you have Sterling+Aguero would you get KDB or Sanchez?

Feel like KDB is a good option regardless of if you have the other 2. But Arsenal fixtures not bad either...

      Sanchez imo

I'd be more comfortable with KDB! But eggs, basket and all, so prob best to get Sanchez. Although he won't be taking a penalty again any time soon.

City look immense but would still spread out a little and go Sanchez.

Sanchez, even if you dont have Kun + Sterling

Sanchez for me. Aguero the essential Man City when he's back and KDBs points will be shared more than Sanchezs I reckon

Numbers might prove me wrong here, but I feel tripling is too much. Go Alexis.

Missed Lukakus knock which is putting him at 75% for this GW, was that in the game?
Was it when he stole Bolasies goal and points from me?

Over a 38 GW season would you not rather worry about using your own judgement to score as many points as you can and therefore pick players based on who will score the most than worry about % ownership?
Seems more and more base and large amount of their decisions around how many people will score points if they don't get a certain player in rather than making the correct decision based on actual potential points.
How much does % ownership come into your thinking?

      I never look at ownership.

      Mainly because I'm too lazy.

I think it's irrelevant if you think your a fantasy player who makes good decisions over the long term

I don't bother too much. The well owned players are well owned for a reason.

I’m not averse to the ditching Ibra idea after watching a few United games recently, though to do it before two home games with one being against Stoke seems pretty ballsy, borderline mad.
