We’ve now launched our latest captain poll to canvas your opinion on the likely favourites and differential options for the armband in Gameweek 6.

You can find the poll in the middle column of the homepage or at the bottom of the same page on mobile.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

With 17 players earning double-digit Fantasy Premier League points hauls in Gameweek 5 there is already an abundance of choice for the captaincy.

That selection gets even tougher this Gameweek when early season armband favourite Sergio Aguero (12.9) returns from a three-match suspension to travel to Swansea. With three goals in as many Premier League games and Manchester City looking unstoppable as an attacking force, the Argentine is nailed on to be among the poll favourites.

For the 76% of FPL managers without Aguero his team-mates, Raheem Sterling (8.4) and Kevin De Bruyne (10.7), offer strong alternative options. The midfield duo have five goals and seven assists between them this season.

One of Gameweek 5’s double-figure FPL wonders, Romelu Lukaku (9.3), could even snatch a lead over Aguero, on the back of four goals in the last two games. The Belgian travels to a Bournemouth side that has conceded the most “big chances” in so far. Lukaku, who has the most shots on target over the last two matches, has been drafted in by 66,660 FPL managers since Saturday.

Liverpool’s midfield offers a raft of viable captaincy candidates this week.

Robert Firmino (8.4), Sadio Mane (9.0) and Philippe Coutinho (8.1), all have two goals and an assist each already and host a Hull City side that tops the goal attempts conceded both in and out of the box tables. Of that trio, Coutinho is the most owned in FPL, with 27.9 managers showing faith in him.

For those looking to take a risk a side in form, Watford offers a series of candidates ahead of their visit to Burnley: they’ve claimed just one clean sheet this season.

Etienne Capoue (4.9), the surprise leading FPL points scorer and top owned midfielder, has four goals already and will surely be promoted from the bench to many Fantasy managers’ first XI this Gameweek.

In attack, Troy Deeney (6.9)’s penalty-taking prowess could be tempting as could Odion Ighalo (7.3)’s resurgent form. The Nigerian has fired off more goal attempts than Diego Costa and Alexis Sanchez over the last two Gameweeks.

A special mention also goes to last Gameweek’s poll leader Zlatan Ibrahomovic (11.9), who has shed more than 51,000 FPL managers this week following Manchester United’s lacklustre display against Watford.

The big Swede, who has the most goal attempts of any striker over the last two Gameweeks, will be hoping to add to his four goals and assist  this term when champions Leicester City drop in on Old Trafford.

The only player to match Ibrahimovic’s goal attempt tally over the last two Gameweeks is Michail Antonio (7.3), who looks another strong armband candidate when Southampton visit the Olympic Stadium on Sunday.

Antonio’s 14% owned West Ham team-mate Dimitri Payet (9.4) is another to consider, after notching an impressive four assists in the last two Gameweeks.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week, as we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering our view of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Going back and forth between having Ibra or not having Ibra in my team and I'm left with two templates, Votes are welcome please!

    A) With Ibra
    Heaton Pickford
    Holebas Coleman Kelly Evans Amat
    Sanchez Firmino Capoue Antonio Fletcher
    Lukaku Ibra Aguero

    B) Without Ibra
    Heaton Pickford
    Holebas Baines Kelly Evans Amat
    Sanchez Firmino Sterling Antonio Capoue
    Deeney Lukaku Aguero

    Thoughts?

    1. Al Bundy
      • 12 Years
      9 years, 4 months ago

So, basically Sterling - Deeney or Ibra - Fletcher. I dont plan on having Ibra, but I think he edges that one.

Side note, will Kelly play regularly?

      1. DrunkPhilosophy
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 4 months ago

Yes basically Capoue will be 4th mid with Ibra while Sterling is 4th mid without Ibra, I think i might go with A then downgrade Ibra if he doesn't do anything special next two games..

Souare is supposed to be out for a while, I think Kelly should be starting in his place, correct me if I'm wrong?

Thoughts are thats a complicated way to ask. Try asking:

      A) Coleman, Fletcher & Ibra
      B) Baines, Sterling, & Deeney

      1. DrunkPhilosophy
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 4 months ago

Because it's not really like this lol, Fletcher will never play in A while Sterling will be 4th mid..

That's why I tried asking it by showing the teams..

And instead of correcting people's way of asking you might wanna actually answer the question 🙂

        Cheers

Had a decent start to the season (ranked around 23k) but thinking of wildcarding to bring Aguero back in.

    Jaku, Pickford
    Williams, Morgan, Holebas, Kelly, Amat
    Sanchez, Firmino, Snodgrass, Puncheon, Capoue
    Aguero, Ibrahimovic, Lukakau

Pretty lightweight keepers & defence but I think there's enough in attack to make up for it. Thoughts?

Holebas - Amat - One other 4.5m defender seems the best way on wildcard if you like rotation.

You can add in almost any other 4.5m defender from another team and it works fairly effectively up until xmas.

Leaves you to find 2 other defenders you'll be happy enough playing most other weeks.

I have Valencia but he's gone in my draft for Walker.

Not sure if it's the right decision.

A lot of my ML competitors have double United defence.

United are going to improve in the next two weeks. I dont see them conceding to Leicester or Stoke honestly

members, what do you think of mane stats. Slightly concerning when you look at them no?

He was one of the players I really wanted but looking at the stats now I am not so sure

Good spot. Say in comparison to Firmino not overly concerning, but questions whether he is worth 0.6 more.

I'm contemplating wildcarding as well and the front 7 in my wildcard draft are EXACTLY the same as yours. Money spent in defence is the same as well. Only: I'm 1m short to pull it off, while you seem to have benefited greatly from price rizes!

I need to find 1m in this:

      Foster - Jaku
      Baines - McAuley - Amat - Holebas - Smith
      KDB - Antonio - Sanchez - Capoue - Snodgrass
      Aguero - Benteke - Lukaku

or switch KDB to Hazard to have Chelsea cover and find 0.3m somewhere.
