A Stamford Bridge firesale, a lack of belief in Zlatan and Nacer Chadli reaching hero status. Gameweek 5 has delivered some unexpected lessons…

Hazard owners are unforgiving…
The sudden evacuation of Eden Hazard from FPL squads is somewhat shocking.

The Belgian has been evicted by almost 140,000 managers at the time of writing, already leading to a pair of price drops in the space of 48 hours.

A number of factors have conspired against him.

Etienne Capoue’s seemingly relentless campaign to break Fantasy Football has ensured that Hazard can be earmarked as a makeweight to allow for the return of Sergio Aguero.

The form of Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling have also offered obvious straight swap options.

To be fair, Hazard has brought this on himself; with just three points and two shots on goal in his last pair of Premier League outings, there are clearly warning signs of a slump. After last season’s malaise, there’s every right to be concerned.

Chelsea’s fixtures offer little respite. Hazard must emerge from this dry spell and prove his fixture proof status if he is to stem the tide of transfer traffic from looking elsewhere.

We’re none the wiser on Arsenal’s penalties….
Arsene Wenger seems as non-plussed as us on just why Alexis Sanchez took and missed Arsenal’s first-half penalty at Hull City.

Santi Cazorla’s owners were left forlorn and empty-handed following Saturday’s contest – although rely on a constant stream of penalties to keep up with Sanchez and Mesut Ozil’s scoring is somewhat optimistic.

As it is, Sanchez didn’t need the penalty. He was awarded a fortunate opener but blasted a convincing second to underline that he is undoubtedly the crown jewel ahead of Arsenal’s obliging run of opponents.

Some Hazard sales have doubtless been sparked by Sanchez’ form, although with City’s assets demanding attention, the Chilean looks destined to remain a powerful differential over the coming Gameweeks.

Slimani can be a factor…
Just not quite yet.

At 8.5 and with an enviable strike record, playing in a team served by Riyad Mahrez, you would have thought that we’d be able to find room for Islam Slimani.

But with Aguero’s return and Romelu Lukaku and Diego Costa firing, his rank in the pecking order is diminished. The Foxes punishing fixtures are also a factor.

Nonetheless, Saturday’s pair of headers made their mark and Slimani’s relationship with Mahrez and Jamie Vardy sparked enough to give us hope that he could eventually present an effective alternative.

We can’t get enough City cover…
Aguero seems a given, but there’s clearly a strong case to go well beyond that.

Pep Guardiola’s side appear to be at a different level in terms of fluidity and goal threat and, in Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling, have two obvious assets that demand consideration.

Sterling is obviously the easiest to accommodate given his price point – the 8.4 seems ridiculously kind in the light of his underlying numbers.

Yes, we have some concerns about his consistency and pitch time but, here and now, it’s difficult to question his form and points output.

Nolito’s ban can only appears to increase his potential minutes over the next two and with Pep handed the League Cup to appease Leroy Sane, we can surely expect the Sterling starts to roll on.

…but Pep’s back four remains a minefield…
With Vincent Kompany back on the bench and John Stones rested, it’s now clear that Guardiola’s entire back four is in question.

Stones could still warrant the outlay given his price tag, although week to week worries over his start will be tough to bear given City’s current inconsistency at the back – Saturday was their first clean sheet of the campaign.

Chadli is an unlikely hero…
But a hero he shall be if he can single-handedly inject a goal threat into West Brom’s attack.

Saturday’s events indicated the Belgian is capable of achieving just that, not only by providing goals and assists himself but also by reviving the fortunes of Salomon Rondon as a budget option.

Fantasy managers will not be complaining.

We need the likes of Chadli and Rondon to help us fund big name signings and if the Baggies defence have goals to protect and rumble forward for more corners won, that’s all gravy.

Alarm bells are ringing at the London Stadium…
Michail Antonio is serving us just fine but, around him, there appears to be chaos in the West Ham ranks.

Slaven Bilic is suddenly clinging to his job.

Bereft of ideas, solutions and options to stop the flow of goals going in their net, the fear is that the Croatian will react by shutting down the Hammers attack and dragging Antonio back to defensive duties.

They’re also imminent at Old Trafford…
That Manchester derby setback appears to have rattled Jose Mourinho.

Two matches and two defeats later, United suddenly seem to be well over the initial honeymoon and are squabbling and searching for inspiration.

Sunday’s reverse at Watford revealed a worrying lack of organisation and flair, reminiscent of the dark days under Louis van Gaal.

Such a scenario arrives just as we put Zlatan Ibrahimovic under the microscope.

Even goalscoring legends are at risk in the current Fantasy landscape and an edgy and moody Zlatan may just fail to keep pace with the rich array of talents currently pulling up trees elsewhere.

Only Hazard and Alvaro Negredo have been sold more than Ibrahimovic so far heading into Gameweek 6.

It’s all falling for Lukaku…
He may have applied a touch, but Lukaku’s “strike” in the 3-1 win over Middlesbrough will still go down as a phantom goal according to those without him in their squads.

Typically perhaps, fortune favoured Lukaku, and he kept his tally ticking.

A total of 29 points over Aguero’s two-Gameweek absence is a compelling argument to retain the Belgian.

Everton’s fixtures and the momentum under Ronald Koeman another.

With Luakaku claiming Saturday’s “goal”, you have to wonder if he’ll also bully penalties from Leighton Baines. In Koeman’s words post-match, Everton need their goalscorer scoring.

If that’s the case, it could be the factor that unlocks a legitimate Golden Boot chase and convinces more to trade from Ibrahimovic.

Dann’s threat has us questioning our principles…
We’re never likely to back the Crystal Palace defence for clean sheets but, in Scott Dann, they appear to offer a freakish Fantasy option.

Over the season, the 5.5 centre back has averaged two goal attempts per match – all from inside the box.

That’s currently surpassing the efforts of new signing Christian Benteke, who somehow emerged from a 4-1 win over Stoke City without points to his name.

Such is the emphasis on set-pieces from Palace, Dann seems almost guaranteed to get regular goalscoring opportunities.

With this season’s law change making it more difficult to shackle attackers at set-plays, you have to wonder if Dann will go on delivering and force us to shelve the basic principles of selecting defensive assets as we go in search of an unlikely source of goals.

Kane blow could see us go Dutch…
Just as Harry Kane was hinting that he might have thrown off his sluggish form, an ankle injury threatens to banish him to the sidelines.

The full prognosis is not yet known but if ligament damage is confirmed and a term of absence with it, our radars would suddenly blink with the Vincent Janssen option.

The Dutchman has a lot to prove and is yet to fire but playing in a Spurs side that creates 31 efforts on goal yesterday might just present him as a new value proposition.

Pickford is going nowhere fast….
At first, we were unsure on Jordan Pickford’s start. Now we couldn’t be more certain.

The 22-year-old’s display at White Hart Lane kept the scoreline at a more than respectable level and underlined the 4.0 stoppers’ potential as a…ahem…season keeper.

Vito Manonne may well recover in three months but will surely face an uphill struggle to displace Pickford should he maintain his current level of performance.

With two save points returned in every match so far, there’s an argument building for Pickford to come off our benches.

    Afternoon all!

Which one makes more sense to you?

    A) play Deeney as 3rd striker and bench Capoue. Pickford/Jaku in goal.

    B) play Capoue and bench 3rd striker (Barrow/Diomande). Have Cech as the keeper for his great fixtures.

    What do you guys think??

    Wenger:
    on the latest team news…
Everyone came out of the Hull game well. Giroud is still not available - we will see at the end of the week if he can join in [ahead of the Chelsea match].
    on Gabriel…
He has a chance to play against Forest.
    on Carl Jenkinson…
He is improving, he is not quite back in full training yet.
    on Aaron Ramsey…
He is still out - I don’t think he will be ready for the weekend either.

Considering his next 6 fixtures, i'd say at least 8 out of 10, only KdB comes close to point potential over a similar amount of time.
On form, plays OOP as a striker and has one of the tastiest upcoming fixtures out of any premium midfield choice.
It baffles me that some are even contemplating ignoring him for the next 5-6 GW's.

      8. I've ditched Ibra to keep Sanchez. Arsenal playing better, have better upcoming fixtures and Utd have nothing at the moment. Got to go with form and imminent prospects. Ibra is class but has a poor team behind him.

Always. Used to be Ozil vs Sanchez for consistent vs explosive and I'd usually play safe with Ozil but Cazorla diluting Ozil appeal for me so far. This doesn't make Sanchez less inconsistent but more appealing as Arsenal coverage for a run of good games.

      What's the deal with Benteke?

4 goals and no involvement has got me a bit worried about him, looking at maybe Deeney as an alternative.

Has he been involved in their attacks, only seen the goals and he didn't seem to be anywhere?

The other Palace wide players also didn't cross it his way very much amazingly. On corners it was Scott Dann who showed way more passion and determination to get on the end of the cross while Benteke was pretty stationary.

WC team. Decided to drop Ibra. Re-shuffling team for Aguero and all drafts with Aguero & Ibra felt crippled. This feels much more balanced. What do you think?

      Foster / Jakupovic
      Baines Koscielny Morgan Holebas Amat
      Sanchez Firmino Antonio Sterling Capoue
      Aguero Lukaku Diomande

I'd like KDB, but Sanchez gives me some Arsenal attacking coverage.

I like, but I would as mine is basically the same.

Not sure Morgan is worth it, given their next 5 fixtures.

I'm stuck choosing between KDB and Sanchez. Currently thinking former as he feels more reliable, and I don't feel confident enough captaining Sanchez over Kun.

Posted this early and am interest to hear what you afternoon scouts think?:

Which 2 of these 3 would you want in your WC team?

-Sterling: In the form of his life under Pep, in a free-scoring team who look like they can score 3/4 against the majority of the league, but is Aguero enough cover?

-Antonio: His stats are crazy this season and scoring well for a West Ham team that look a bit lost. But is this goal-scoring form sustainable and will Payet soon become the Hammers pick again?

-Firmino: Playing upfront for a Liverpool team that look deadly on the attack and who have a great run of fixtures ahead of them. But with Coutinho, Lallana and Mane around, is it best avoiding Liverpool altogether because the points will be so spread out?

AF as you will have Aguero but I would want Sterling as well. I have all 3 at the moment.

I just WC'd to ensure I have all 3. They are all great value picks this season.

If you have all 3 + Sanchez, Kun and Lukaku that leaves you short of cash to get a strong 3rd striker.

It also takes away Capoue as a 4th mid which seems wise at the moment

            I got all 3

The problem here is more Sterling vs Firmino as both are in the same price bracket

If I was WCing now I think I'd have all 3!

If not an option, I think I'd leave out Sterling reluctantly.

I'd say Sterling and Firmino, both playing in very attacking teams which are bound to score goals. I'm not sure Antonio can keep it up long term.

I believe Sterling and Firminho. . West Ham is unsettled and though Antonio has great stats, he would be third of these. But I have all 3 and plan on keeping.

I am tinkering with my WC team and the 3 of them are in my team.
With the amount of goals City is gonna score, and the type of play Pep favours, Sterling is a bargain.
Antonio in great form, why not getting him, he has not stopped socring yet.
Firmino is the best Liverpool mid if you look at the stats (Shots per game, key passes). Cheaper than Mane (that I love), more consistent than Coutinho (IMO) and plays higher up the pitch than Lallana (who with his price, makes me considering doubling up)

Hard to recommend ignoring Antonio given his form but West Ham could well shut down soon. Sort themselves out and protect the back better.

          A) Sterling, Antonio & Valencia

          Or

          B) Payet, Bolasie & Walker

Sterling, Antonio and Walker? Might be tight in funds.

Otherwise I rate Sterling and Walker a lot.

I watch Watford games and Holebas is taking free kicks and getting forward, plus now we have a good run of fixtures coming up. I will be getting him in for that.

          Thoughts?

          (-4)
          Foster
          Valencia - Williams
          Hazard - Firmino - Sterling - Antonio - Capoue
          Aguero (C) - Lukaku - Benteke

          Pickford - Evans - Friend - Amat

          Cheers.

This. -4 is my limit. Need a stellar week to make it worth it. In your situation I'd stagger the transfers or give it a week and use 2 FTs for -4

          Foster, Jakupovic

          Friend, Amat, Smith, McAuley, Stones

          Özil, Firmino, Hazard, Redmond, Capoue

          Costa, Rondón, Ibrahimovic

          2FT,
          0mil in the bank

Costa and Redmond , for Aguero and Snoddy/Fer

          or

Rondon and Hazard, for Aguero and 6.4mil???

          Please advise???

Of the two, then the top one.

Could be a third option with a -4, that creates a better balance?

Looking at some of these WC teams, there must be plenty of cash knocking around!

The best I can get with 100.7 is something like:

          Heaton Pickford
          Baines Holebas Evans Kelly Amat
          Sanchez Firmino Sterling Antonio (Capoue)
          Aguero Lukaku (Rondon)

352 or 343 depending on form and fixtures.

Is Mane worth the 0.6 more than Firmino?

I dont think so. Across the season it will be close between those two pts wise, but the extra 0.6 you save can be better used elsewhere imo.

I don't think so. Mane is the better player, but if he's playing wide against teams that sit-in while Firmino is in the middle, he'll be lucky to keep up.

Not if you look at the stats (more shots per game, more key passes), and I'd think that if Studge gets injured, Firmino could take his spot.

If Costa manage to rise in price tonight, I will manage to afford this WC team:

          Heaton - 4.0
          Baines - Lovren - Holebas - JEvans - Amat
          Sanchez - Sterling - Firmino - Antonio - Capoue
          Aguero - Lukaku - Deeney

          Good enough..?

Not essential at all. even less so with Wham's recent performances, - he may be pushed back / they can't keep conceding they way they do.

As long as Payet keeps delivering those long balls to him, Antonio (and his headers) is essential. Honestly, I would go Payet, but Antonio is the budget friendly option for now.
