Nothing can be taken for granted this season.

Pep Guardiola’s teamsheet, Sergio Aguero’s ability to fluctuate from a frustrating liability to an essential goal machine and the Liverpool midfield: blessed with brilliance and then cruelly cursed by misfortune.

It was Manchester City who provided the early rise and fall on today’s rollercoaster, first reassuring some with Aguero’s presence on the teamsheet, while disappointing owners of Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones and Ilkay Gundogan.

Then Aguero took over.

Like Harry Kane in Gameweek 12, he transformed the most ordinary team performance into a personal haul that revived his stock and forced an immediate re-assessment of plans.

Strategies were re-written with Aguero’s brace, only to be torn up by the events that were to follow at Anfield.

We had such expectations of Jurgen Klopp’s attacking three against Sunderland but, when the whistle blew on Merseyside, we were left mainly with blanks, and the scars of Roberto Firmino hobbling off and Phillipe Coutinho stretchered from the field.

Following minor concerns for the Brazilian and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard over the international break, this latest setback appears far more significant.

We should perhaps wait on a scan and the full prognosis but, already the reaction to Coutinho’s agony has been marked: he tops the Fantasy Premier League “transfers out” column and will surely continue to shed owners before we know the true extent of the damage.

A possible tragedy in Liverpool’s superb season, for some Fantasy managers, the loss of Coutinho will be a game changer that opens up a new and all too convenient strategy.

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s relentless form that continued today in a dramatic 5-4 Swansea City victory lifts the Icelander to the forefront of our transfer thinking.

Along with Chelsea’s Pedro, he will surely vie to replace a potentially stricken Coutinho and, in doing so, free up funds to investigate Diego Costa, or more likely, the Harry Kane option in attack.

Those previously considering an exit for Aguero, myself included, may now be presented with an alternative route.

The 33% owned Romelu Lukaku could now be sacrificed with funds liberated from Coutinho’s sale providing a means to acquire Kane.

Aguero, thanks to his goals and a cruel twist of fate at Anfield, could now be locked in once again.

The City striker, along with the unfortunate Coutinho, were part of a turbulent day that offered a stark reminder to all of just how quickly fortunes can shift.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

How does this WC team look?
    Pickford Heaton
    Alonso Lovren Holebas Nyom Amat
    Firmino Pedro Sigurdsson 7.3 Fletcher
    Costa Kane Aguero

    Or maybe in mid
    Mane Firmino Sigurdsson Zaha Fletcher?

    Too expensive Frontline?
Should i try a different approach?

Go ahead. You can always downgrade your forwards if needed. Squeeze a bit from the defense and get Mata/Walcott.

Seems legit, but if you're on a WC you're not gonna lock in a team in a while anyways, are you? 😀

The midfield has so many great options around 7-8 while the forward spot doesn't. If you don't have faith in Defoe/Austin as 3rd striker you either go big or go 3-5-2.

Only worry would be Hazard and/or Sanchez going mad over their easy run of fixtures in december. No team is risk free, though.

Help guys I really have no clue how to get Kane in even though I have 2FT but my team value is really low.

    Foster

    Mustafi. McAuley. Pieters. Holebas

    Sanchez. Firmino. Coutinho*

    Aguero. Benteke. Deeney.

Subs: Pickford. Sterling*. Amat. De Roon

    0.1m in the bank.
Coutinho to Siggy sounds one of the obvious transfers which gives me 1.3m in the bank. Who do I downgrade to fit Kane in for Deeney?

In general are scores lower this year than previous years?

By this I mean are the top players (Hazard, Costa, Aguero, Sanchez) on lower totals at this stage then top players in previous years (for example Mahrez, Vardy, Ali and co last year? And also top players (FPL-wise) lower than previous years at this stage?

Seems like nothing is really clicking.....

Kane and Dembele Theory - Revenge of La Llana

After watching the majority of Liverpool's games this season, and in particular the last two at St Mary's and at home to Sunderland, something extremely noticeable has appeared.

    The Brazilians need Adam.

Lallana creates the samba beat integral to Jurgen's tactics. He's the spearhead of the pressing game, the quick one two's, the off the ball movement, the intensity and perhaps above all, carves up the space for the side-shaven head pair of Robert Firminho and Philippe Coutinho. The attacking prowess of Klopp's clicking clan simply isn't the same when Lallanas not there.

Teams are able to gang up and load heavy on Coutinho's side, suffocating his creative space, in turn leaving Firminho isolated and trying speculative shots. The fluidity with Lallana in the team allows all three to roam nonchalantly from left to right and right to left, causing dizzying migraines for the dazed and confused defenses of the Premier League. Are we seeing a Kane and Dembele Theory Mark II? The early signs suggest we are....

    1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
      • 15 Years
      9 years, 24 days ago

Hmmmm... Think lallana is one of pools best mids, and most teams need their best midfielders playing... The international break could be a factor as well...

      Completely agree.
Altough part of yesterday´s Moyes tactics were man marking Coutinho with Denayer all over the pitch . That really frustrate the little fellow. First time he got space he was injured (and that was at 30min)

    The Arnie/Siggy plan

Thought that I was being clever holding Arnautovic until GW15 and then swapping to Siggy. I planned this a long time back based on fix but with Siggy adding a haul this week with yet another price rise today...it's looking like a mistake unless Arnie does something special today! But even if he blanks will probably just have to hold on now anyway.
Price rise experts: Do you envisage Siggy rising much over the next two weeks?

With Spurs away up next, I'd say max of 1 more rise before deadline. Strong chance he blanks v Spurs so his progress will be halted.

Not too much IMO with Spurs away up next. 0.1 more I'd say

Cheers guys, will def hold on so, two more Arnie blanks would be pretty unfortunate but could easily happen I guess. Siggy looking so good from GW15 onwards though 🙂

Will wait for today's games of course, but does this sound right?

Coutinho and Luka >> Siggy and Kane

Coutinho must have had his scan by now.....Klopp becoming very sloppy with his updates to FPL players.

Showing complete contempt for us 😕

Did Aguero>Ibra instead of getting rid of Lukaku after the injury news. Just glad he only got the two in the end! Hopefully Lukaku does something to lessen the damage then he's out for Kane and Hazard in for Coutinho for a hit.

Ahh well Coutinho being out is annoying. Especially with me captaining him. Typical.

    Is anyone considering Yaya Toure?
Watched the highlights last night and he seemed to look consistently dangerous. Plus he has no Europe...

He did look a threat. Also, he looks very trim and fit compared to last season.

      Could be a gem.

For 7.7 million, ridiculously cheap knowing what he can do...
