Sergio Aguero continues to create drama.

Today’s first act was an early afternoon bombshell from Manchester which sent shockwaves as Pep Guardiola’s teamsheet hit home.

Then, as the clock struck four, the second act followed: enter Aguero stage left to revive a ten-man City with a finish of sublime quality.

The full performance, spanning three hours, with Pep directing and Aguero as the dashing leading man, summed up our season so far with the Argentine.

It seems the days when Aguero settled in our squads and quietly went about the business of saving our Gameweeks are long gone.

Now the striker seems to insist on seeking the headlines and, just when we begin to settle on the idea of Aguero returning to his familiar groove, Pep intervenes with his own unpredictable flashes.

Some may have anticipated a benched Aguero against Burnley but I was certainly not among them.

Foolishly attempting to play “second guess Pep”, I presumed that he had earmarked the visit of the Clarets as an opportunity to ease Aguero back into goalscoring form.

Instead, according to his post-match comments, he looked to protect his striker from exertion following his unconvincing run-out at Anfield.

“He played 90 minutes after four games out and I did not consider him playing 90 minutes again after two days.”

That seems plausible but why start him on the bench rather than use him to get in front and then hook him early?

Match fitness is surely the issue, and, with a rest in the FA Cup tie next weekend on the cards, why not allow Aguero to regain that sharpness with a start?

Such questions and arguments fall on deaf ears: Pep doesn’t answer to me, other Fantasy managers and perhaps not even to the City fans. Judging by his post-match interview, he barely answers to journalists.

We know he plays by his own rules and that those rules are so often hideously difficult to decipher.

By the end of act two, Aguero had delivered. A seven point return isn’t perhaps a cause for celebration for the 135,000 who transferred him in, or indeed the 11% who gave him the armband. But it came as a huge relief given the reaction at 2pm.

However, do today’s events add to the doubts and concerns surrounding Peps approach to Aguero?

Given that City’s Champions League campaign will accelerate again in February and, by that time, they may even be cast adrift in the title race, will Pep’s attitude to Aguero’s pitch time hinder the striker’s potential further?

There is also another factor.

Gabriel Jesus is now a Manchester City player. A precocious talent, Pep has made it clear that he is about to become another option.

“Now Gabriel Jesus is coming so we will have of course three strikers who can sense a goal.”

This won’t help matters.

We had doubts already but Pep’s approach and teamsheet for Burnley’s visit to the Etihad, just day’s after losing ground following the defeat to Liverpool, has perhaps compounded matters.

Following two acts of ill-discipline, we’re not sure if we can trust Aguero. We’re also not sure if Pep can be trusted to get him on the pitch in the first place.

Aguero had the final say with another reminder of his brilliance. We know the quality he brings but are we willing to risk the hefty fee to buy into the circus that comes with it?

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Early thoughts on this? 2.5m 1FT.

    Heaton (Pickford)
    Baines Holebas Pieters (McAuley Amat)
    Sanchez Hazard Eriksen Philips (Capoue)
    Ibra Kane Carroll

    Carroll > Defoe?
    Amat > ?

    Cheers in advance

Holebas could be suspended and change things for one.

Yeah I'll wait until right before the deadline this week I think.

Do you agree (barring injuries) those are my most pressing issues? Can't decide on Benteke/Defoe/Lukaku/Costa

Are you looking to avoid an Amat price change? Because I don't really see much point in using a transfer on him otherwise.

Defoe is a good option for Carroll. Could consider Tekkers as well.

No I feel worse about losing all that Capoue value. I'm not going to go premium so I don't mind upgrading Amat for a better 5th defender but I'll probably be fine this week in defence.

If Walcott is fine I might consider Hazard + Carroll > Walcott Costa (-4)

Same happened to me with Capoue. I just never had a FT that I could use to cash in. But I got him for 4.5 so I'm still up on the deal. He's been, and will remain, bench fodder. So not fussed really.

That would be a decent trade. No Sanchez then?

Yeah 4.5 for me too, I just wish I could have cashed in at some point.

I'd like to double up with Sanchez and Walcott for a bit if he's healthy. I'm not too happy with Hazard's past few weeks Costa just seems a bit more consistent.

Good option. I'm in the same boat really. Have both Haz and Costa but now with Chelsea's fixtures getting a bit tougher, doubling up doesn't seems as good an option. And especially given Haz's price tag. Just not sure who to replace with. A fit Wally is an excellent choice.

              Maybe Mkhi?

I want Mkhi to do well so much but I still haven't seen enough from him either. I had high hopes for Cabaye but I don't know if he can hit the levels the 7.5-8.5m mids can.

The more I think about it holding this week might be the best option. Obviously, like TM said above, lots can still change but nothing stands out, which usually means wait a week

Part of the Mkhi issue is price too. I'd probably take Mane at the 9-9.5 level. And Eriken/Alli/Firmino at the 8-8.5 level. So he's kinda priced out of my thinking, at least until he strings a few good games together.

Someone on here mentioned Big Sam has Cabaye playing further forward so things might get better for him. Haven't seen any Palace so cant confirm. He's definitely one to watch though. Feel he's got huge potential, especially at 5.6. Zaha will be a loss for them though.

I want to avoid Liverpool for now. Cout and Firm are both good options when playing and especially if Firmino gets back up front but not too sure he will.

I thought Cabaye was 6.5 that's even better - Maybe penalties too if Benteke loses them. Zaha will be a loss but it might mean Cabaye plays an even bigger role. I'll be watching their game closely

How do you think he's gonna fit into the City squad?

Obvious talent, and more of the "Pep style" according to some. Is Aguero at serious risk of rotation?

I'd almost say he's already been seriously rotated. This will just take more time away from him I think.

Aguero still first choice but makes me feel better about Kane + Ibra.

    @Bananose

Yeah I know, it was a bit tongue in cheek.
Just had a peek at your team and I'm not convinced either of those moves will improve your team imo.
I'd be tempted to save as I think Barnes/Antonio will probably stink up your team in no time at all.
The Carroll option does have appeal as Stanislas is a good punt but I just worry Carroll lets us down time and time again.
    Punty but it's your call.

I'm being a bit cautious at moment as I reckon any hits will be better served in the weeks to come and it's always a difficult period over this fixture period - better to get burned NOT making hits.

Nah not Haz. Costa is enough Chelsea attack for the near term.

Depending on you rank, you could look slightly left-field with JRod or Cabaye as a 5th mid. Would make 3-5-2 a decent option.

Or maybe look at bringing in a Gunners/Palace/WBA defender. Brunt/Dann for Holebas/Smith maybe?

I dont think double chelsea is good idea with their fixtures coming up, i think a straight swap for bellerin would be good. Arsenal keeping CS plus he offers attacking threat & bonus points.

Well they conceded 2 against Stoke. See how they go against Spurs, but I'd say TOT, LEI, LIV, ars in the next 5 is a pretty good reason not to double up.

They didnt keep a clean sheet v stoke & have much tougher games coming up than stoke at home. Im not saying its terrible idea just that if you look at arsenals fixtures i think they are much better.

    Any advice for this lot:

    Pickford Grant
    Alonso Cedric Holgate Holebas McAuley
    Hazard Sanchez Phillips Lallana Zaha
    Aguero Ibra Anichebe

Strong team. Zaha and Anichebe is the issue. Still want 3-5-2? Not sure, maybe Cabaye? Snograss? No one in there gets me too excited.

Cheers mate. Points last GW didn't agree with that assessment though 🙁 I think for the 5.5-6 range, I can get better value out of a midfielder in that price range than a striker. Can you recommend a striker around 5.7 that will do better than a Zaha, Phillips or Snodgrass?

    2. Grand Thibauto

Zaha to Snoddy maybe. Although very poor fix.

Yeah that was my first thought and then my first concern too. Pukka has recommended downgrading Zaha and then upgrading Anichebe but I can't think of a striker in the same price range that would offer the same value in terms of returns. Robson-Kanu maybe?

    3. Shultan
      • 9 Years
      9 years, 28 days ago

With so much money tied up in kun/ibra/sanchz/haz/alonso theres not a lot of wiggle room for a decent 5th mid for 3-5-2 & cant upgrade anichebe for a 3-4-3 by downgrading zaha to a 4.3/4.4 bench fodder.
Could do zaha to snoddy just for one week. Then hulls fixtures are difficult so maybe look for a 4-4-2 the week after.

Ahhh thanks! Not really long-term transfers though, although their fixtures aren't too bad. What about Cedric to Ake and then Holgate to Friend/Chambers? I have the perfect money for that and Zaha to Snoddy

Yeah snoddy would only be for one week.
i like ake, he gets himself into the box & i think has 3 goals already. I like friend too, he has assist potential (if you look at his history) & boro have a couple of home fixtures coming up so CS potential too

Tempting to do Origi to Lukaku for -4. But holding it as Mane is off, Henderson and Sturridge injured. So Klopp should start playing Origi.

Anyone considering double bournmouth defense ahead of Double wba?(Preferrably on wildcard or have one Bou def already. If you have got one of Brunt or McAuley then this post is not for you.)

1/3 of goals and 1/4 of assists of bournmouth came from the defenders this season and is expected to continue that way. Compared to the closest that is wba in terms of goals which is 1/4 on assist which is 1/7.

Daniels+Ake at 9.5 is a great deal also note Daniels will be taking a pen when Wilson's off the pitch which he is so much these season with afobe on a decent goalscoring run.

I don't double up on defences, but if I had to choose between the two I would go double Bournemouth for the reasons you mentioned. I'd only consider either Brunt or McAuley from WBA, but not both.

Me neither. But every other defender below the 5 range seems to be struggling to get 2 each week. And theres Ake racking up goals and bps whenever getting a CS. Looks very hard to ignore. And

If you want to get rid of Siggy, can consider Walcott (if he returns from injury), and then Walcott -> Antonio when WHU fixtures improve from GW25.

Otherwise, I would prefer to upgrade your def and get Baines/Brunt

Heaps dude. Got some bad suggestions as well if you're interested.

Depends on your bank and the rest of your squad, and whether you want a straight swap or to free up cash for elsewhere.

What are people plans for Siggy? I got him back in GW15 and he's really not delivered. Fixtures about to turn sour and Swansea look terrible (Clement may be able to sort them out but that's unknown). Lallana would be an easy move for those who don't own him but many already do. With not many obvious options around the 7.4mil price bracket are you looking to upgrade (e.g. Alli, Eriksen, Pogba), downgrade (e.g. Phillips, Stanislas, Snodgrass) or gamble (e.g. Barkley, Antonio, J Rod, Sterling)?

Its an awkward price bracket huh. I went up, but had the cash to do so. Every man will be different. I can see a lot of value in going down to a Phillips/Cabaye and upgrading a defender.

Yeah, I'm 0.2 short of doing Siggy -> Alli.

Drawn to Barkley (could hit his purple patch of the season) or J Rod (great fixtures) at the moment but may use banked transfer to go for the major restructure of:

Siggy, Borini, Hazard (have Costa up front and don't fancy double Chelsea these next few) -> Alli, Lukaku, Stanislas

Hoping to be patient but price rises may change that in the next day or two!

I downgraded last week to phillips to get extra cash to upgrade by defence. Theres decent points to be had in defence with people like brunt, baines, rose, bellerin

vaving balanced the sterling tight rope for the past few gameweeks with moderate success, im rdy to move on to the next gamble : antonio...I think he'll continue to get goals soon with those fixtures

For those who do the rate-my-team thing. I increased the projection 24pts with
    Mane/Pogba> Phillips/Sanchez

That makes a lot of sense considering Mane isn't going to be playing much in the next month or so.

i take that thing with a big pinch of salt. it loves some players (sanchez) and hates others and is really slow to update to form.
