Two fine goals in extra time hand Leicester City a much-needed confidence boost as the FA Cup fourth round finally draws to a close, along with a seemingly inevitable blank for both the Foxes and their Gameweek 28 opponents Arsenal.

Leicester 3 Derby 1

Leicester scored and won at home for the first time in 2017 on a long night of contrasts in their FA Cup fourth round replay.

Claudio Ranieri made 10 changes to the side that lost to Manchester United – only Ahmed Musa kept his place – but such has been the Foxes’ awful start to the year that the team was not so much weakened as remodelled by the Italian.

And at least one player, man of the match Demarai Gray, made a strong case for a continued run in the side.

After a first half of almost exquisite tedium, the tie came alive when Andy King put the home side ahead from a Marc Albrighton assist.

Derby equalised from a deflected free-kick to force extra time before Wilfred Ndidi took substitute Riyad Mahrez’s pass in his stride and lashed a shot in off the post for his first goal for the Foxes.

And Gray put the tie to bed with a fine individual goal six minutes from the end.

The winger has started two of Leicester’s last three league matches and, at 4.8 and with just 0.5% ownership, offers some promise as a budget midfielder as the Foxes embark on a set of more favourable fixtures.

A home match with Liverpool and a trip to Arsenal aside, the champions face a good run all the way up to Gameweek 34, with Hull City, Stoke City and Sunderland at the King Power and away fixtures at Swansea City, West Ham, Everton and Crystal Palace.

The return to fitness of striker Islam Slimani following his stint at the Africa Cup of Nations was another plus point for Leicester.

But their parlous form is not the only reason to suggest caution, however.

Ranieri’s side face Millwall in the FA Cup fifth round. Win that and their Gameweek 28 trip to the Emirates will be postponed. And seeing as Arsenal, barring an upset of historic proportions at Sutton United, should also make it through, that Gameweek 28 blank for both sides looks almost inevitable.

Throw in the resumption of Champions League duties on February 22 and March 14 – before matches with Liverpool and West Ham respectively – and fixture congestion weakens the case for investing in Leicester assets still further.

Leicester City XI: Zieler, Amartey, Wasilewski, Benalouane, Chilwell, King, Mendy, (Ndidi 90), Albrighton, Kapustka (Mahrez 81), Gray, Musa (Slimani 90).
Subs not used: Drinkwater, Hamer, Okazaki, Fuchs.

1FT with 0.6m and at least 6 problems:

    Grant
    Brunt, Robertson, Holgate
    Sanchez, Alli, Siggy, Phillips
    Kane, Ibra, Lukaku

    Jaku, Davies, Friend, Ake

    Use, save, hit?

Will be much easier to address problems with 2 FTs next week. Ibra to Costa or Sanchez to Hazard and use the money to upgrade one of the defenders to Coleman/Baines.

I'm selling Sanchez for Hazard in week 26. I think his value will plummet with no fixture and he has tricky fixtures as well as another blank up to week 30. I might not bring him back until week 31.

I'm keeping Sanchez - I dont want to waste 2 transfers on taking him out and bringing him back again. Ibra will go for Costa though, as I want Costa long term.

I'll be put to this team out in 26:

          Heaton
          Brunt, Baines, Coleman, Walker
          Eriksen, Alli, Philips,
          Lukaku, Costa, Defoe

          Maguire, Carroll, Sanchez,

Our squad is big enough to accommodate a hold or two

Thing is if you want him after the value plummeting is a non argument. Assuming he's fit will just be bought back for double game weeks and you could end up losing money on him as harder to buy back than sell if spending the cash

    So what's the vibe here...
Better to have Siggy this GW or 2 FTs next?

Depends who you take out. I love siggy but waiting until gw28. Spurs have stoke at home next so sticking with Ali and eriksen

That isn't such a great fixture though imo. Stoke have been pretty stingy this season.

Siggy vs Chelsea tho. I would def prefer Spurs players in gw27 and Liverpool this weekend isn't a bad fixture either. Maybe I am just trying to convince myself as I have a few issues with my team, I would prob need a hit for siggy!!

If I do it it'll be for Alli. I like Eriksen too much.
Agreed that Spurs in 27 look much better than Siggy.
Tough call that I feel will make or break my GW.

I know! It's a stand out option but Alli could score well v Pool too and he has a better fixture in 27.

What's best move? Got 1ft and 1m in the bank...got bellerin over Alonso 2 months ago which has been a disaster to thinking I should get alonso now but have I missed the boat?

    Valdes
    Coleman brunt bellerin
    Ali eriksen Sanchez Phillips
    Lukaku ibra Carroll

    Jaku Capoue lovren Evans

I'd hold Bellerin this GW. The two FTs will be handy going fwd. Also Hull at home is a good fixture for Ars defenders

Bellerin to Alonso or Alli to Siggy for me. Bellerin could not play for precaution.

I don't think you missed the boat with Alonso. Still 14 GWs left.

      Good luck, mate.

Think I'll go Ibrahimovi(c) this week. Seems the safest. Arsenal are weak and chopping their lineup too much. Sanchez could be on the wing, Hull could frustrate. Siggy too risky for me, Leicester could show up for once.

    Just thinking out loud.

And Watford could play like they did vs Arsenal at the Emirates.

Wouldn't consider Ibra too safe, he blanked against Stoke and Hull! Mourinho is getting that grapefruit face, and that's when his team usually do bad

      My captain walks on water

      I would save FT

No point bringing in Haz for Alli until next week

So 2 FT next week looks better

Not seen routledge in many teams!! I would prob save as 2ft will be important for preparing for gw28 once we know fa cup results
