He might be Chelsea’s top goal scorer in the Premier League but the signs are that Florent Malouda may well not be the cast iron FPL selection his early season form suggested. Malouda scored 6 goals in his first 5 games (one of those five games being a 7 minute cameo against West Ham) to carry on the form he was displaying in front of goal on the back end of last season.

However since Chelsea’s 4-0 against Blackpool the Frenchman has scored only one goal and contributed zero assists in the following 8 games. He has also picked up zero bonus points to top it off. That is not the sort of form that warrants inclusion in Fantasy Football teams and certainly not the type which can be justified under his price – currently £10.4m in the FPL game.

What is ominous is the fact that Chelsea’s early season form has slowed to a halt. Today’s 3-0 defeat (battering?) by Sunderland served to highlight how much Chelsea are stuttering at the moment and, whilst it’s clear they are missing some big players, there are signs that the machine that is Chelsea is beginning to rust. Based on this and their performance against Liverpool, extensive coverage of Chelsea players is not looking to be the golden goose it was a few weeks ago. Malouda’s poor returns appear to have coincided with Chelsea’s slowdown in goalscoring form.

To highlight how poor his returns have been it serves as a worthwhile exercise to compare his returns in the last 8 weeks to some (not all of course) of the other midfielder’s who the Frenchman is up against in our Fantasy Football Teams.

NameScore in last 8 GW’s
Nani50
Van Der Vaart49
Cahill46
Nolan45
Brunt41
Downing38
Bale34
Malouda24

Note that this list isn’t exhaustive but it makes worrying reading – just think about how many more points your FPL team would have had (and how much more money you would have to play with) if you’d gone with Nolan for that period? It doesn’t bear thinking about.

What is making it worst is Malouda’s inability to finish games. This serves to indicate that Ancellotti may not see him as essential as FPL managers did throughout the start of this season. For many tonights substitution will be the straw which breaks the camels back and at having maintained his highest price of £10.4m for the last 6 weeks now might be the time to cash in whilst you can get the best return.

To be fair to Florent Malouda, and to give a balanced perspective on things, he has been carrying an injury that with a full squad to pick from might have seen him given more rest. Indeed he mentioned it before the build up;

“It came against Blackburn. It was a tackle from behind but I had to carry on because it was a tough game and I was struggling.

“Until half-time I was OK but after half-time I could feel the ligament and the calf was a bit stiff so I was limping on the pitch and I had to take care of my ankle.”

This surely provides an explanation into the constant substitutions. However, FPL managers aren’t exactly a sentimental bunch and a half injured midfielder who is offering nothing points wise isn’t going to hang about long.

As a result no doubt thousands of managers will be dropping the Chelsea midfielder for someone in better form. Managers could do a lot worse than closing their eyes and picking one from the list above.

And the Cole assist was the best he'll have in his entire career.

Why are people so eager to make changes?
There will be international friendlies midweek that could mess up your team totally.

Also a lot of people are looking to get Tevez in, his friendly is back home in Argentina, he might not even start because he will be jetlagged.

    My thoughts right now.

                Jagielka/Boateng/Vidic
                Fabregas/Albrighton/Adam/VDV/Nani
                Elmander/Drogba

Next week and then have 2 free the following week, (a) to see if Rooney plays, in order to maybe do Drogba OUT Rooney IN (depending on form etc, I only got Drogs back again recently so no value issue) and then ya, Elmo OUT, what you think?

Great atmosphere, this might be a real game. Gattuso on a yellow doing his best to be sent off, Lucio almost losing it, Robinho and Ibra wanting to play and a Milan defence that looks a little better than usual.

A ManUtd defender looks the best choice for the coming fixtures.

Problem is, only Ferdinand and Evra are guaranteed starters and they're so bleedin expensive.

I'd probably go 1 if you've got good midfielders, and 3 if you don't.

Not bad. Not sold on Jarvis though. Good player but not sure on his FPL potential. Think Nzog, Brunt and Adam are better options in same price bracket. But Jarvis COULD be a great differential for next few weeks. Good luck whatever you decide!

Fair enough. I've had Brunt and he's done well by me so I still think he's a better option, particularly long-term. But it depends on whether Dorrans steps up his game.

Jarvis will have to share points with Milijas and Hunt though, but he got BPs this week which is always a good sign.

Just back on PC since 9am this morning. What a day footballing wise!
As an Arsenal fan, I cant help but think this was pretty much the perfect weekend.
As for fantasy football, 57 points isn't amazing but finally a green arrow after so many red ones!
Didn't manage to watch the chelsea match - what was the deal with mummy? Noticed he played for 1 min. He was on my bench, so not affected but intended to play him next week. Is it time to cash in?

I'm pretty sure Mancini favours Kolarov and Ferdinand has played every minute when he hasn't been injured. More concerned that due to rises and falls I would have to make the changes before the internationals, but is it still worth it? Would only be a 4 point hit btw.

+1 Its always on in my house for dinner but it is without a doubt one of the worst things that has ever happened to music. Now people who have any sort of musical talent no longer practice until they have really honed their skills. Instead Simon Cowell has created this "fast food" approach to music, come onto the show and you could be famous in weeks. Its very annoying to have to watch this as a person who has played guitar, piano and sang all his life.

Nah because the actual reason he is staying in is because people are using him as a way to ruin the X Factor. He has no actual demographic because he has no talent, they most likely wont even bother releasing anything after he wins it (if he does). Sure all my mates vote for him every week on the pure basis of "Sure it'll ruin it".

              2. Giving them out money

Tell them to keep it up.

The people who want to ruin it dont watch it.

Btw why do you think the judges & Producers wanted Wagner. Because he is a story which will generate news , columns, people saying its crap etc. He was choosen for a reason. He didnt sneak through and suddenly the producers are thinking "crap what will we do if he wins"

SO either way it win win for X Factor.

Why would it be off air also if he wins?Far worse have won b4 Soup.

Em not instructing my mates to do it. It is PR but Wagner isnt who they're using for most of it. Simon Cowell controls all the drama, its usually Cheryl Cole related. Whats more is that at the end of this they get alot more money from the success of the people who make it if they have a few hit records, which is what Simon Cowell wants. If Wagner wins there wont be any hit records which will be not bode well for Simon, as he actually takes charge of all the acts that win the competition.

I dont fully agree. I think that if you compared the sales between a Leona Lewis Album(who I dont like either) or a Wagner album the income generated will by the Leona will be significantly greater. Its whats happened with the odd boy who won last year. They havent managed to generate much off him either, although theres a very funny story about the Rage Against the Machine story there.

That 'specific demographic group' aren't even voting for him, it's the same people from the online petition of rage against the machine that are putting him through.

It is making a joke out of the competiton, someone tone deaf winning the world's biggest singing competiton.

X factor reasons for not putting jedward through =it's a singing competition. It's meant as a singing competition, but has turned into a popularity contest. Wagner is not popular as he has no story AND can't sing.

id lvoe if he wins it, itd be fantasic. i think the manufactured bullshit is killing music as an ancient human endeavour since the beginning of our species. They rehash past hits , and attach less appealing and more annoying assholes to them. THey then sell that crap through the media channels they dominate. Its basically processed cheese food. Its abysmal, and i hope wagner shows it up for what it is. I fuking hate it, but i watch it, like id watch a car crash, cos my missus does too. it is a curiosity.

Wagner is manufactured as well. Fool on you if you think the producers arent using him to create this - discussion, sales "I hate wagner he will show how crap X Factor is" haha.
Its all the same. He is part of it.

The people who would ruin it or show it up were gotten rid of long ago.

Lots of people over the age of 50 are now watching the X Factor as an entertainment show. If it were all 20 years like it was they would not have that market.

We all know he too is manufactured but the difference is, yes they will make money from the votes but alot of that money is also sucked up by the production of the show. What they really want is someone to make alot of money after it. Wagner wont.

Hmmm I dont think you are getting it.

It doesnt matter who wins the show.

Lots of people who didnt win the X factor/ bgt etc have gone on to become more successful than the winner. JLS for one.

They cant make loads of money by putting the useless ones on tour and picking the "best" act as they see it from a commercial point of view to promote properly.

X Factor isnt a song contest and it doesnt matter who wins, Its free advertisement for a number of groups and acts who Cowell will promote in the next few years.

Why would Wagner winning stop anything?

But they dont always get to hold onto the exclusivity of the acts who dont win. For example Lucy Jones who is now making it really big on the West End. Thats the issue. With the winner they're promised a contract, with people who dont win they can be snapped up by someone else and what usually happens is if Simon Cowell gets a contract from them the terms are usually different, in fact they're usually much better for the artist because at that point they already have a huge following, therefore the company makes less money from them then they would have if they had won the X factor and had to agree to the record deal that they had already agreed too when they first signed up for the show.

I've been considering getting Malouda out for a few weeks, recent performances dont suggest why I should do otherwise.

Im sick of trying to get a cheap Chelsea defender (even Terry isnt worth the money) so hes gone too.

Only Drogba Im keeping and even he is for the chop next week having not scored in 6

Well fair play to Sunderland, when Bent got injured things were looking pretty bleak for them, and then getting rinsed by Newcastle - they've come back well.

Gyan looks like a good prospect too. May look to bring him in before long.
