Demba Ba signs off for the African Cup of Nations with a devastating forward display to send Man United to their second straight defeat. Anders Lindegaard’s clean sheet record is well and truly over, while Tim Howard nets Everton’s only goal as David Moyes’ side kicked off their double gameweek in downbeat fashion:

Demba Ba
A goal and assist for the Newcastle forward continued a remarkable Fantasy season that sees him sit second in the overall rankings with a score of 125 points, pre-bonus. Since he made his first start in gameweek 5, Ba has scored 15 goals and provided 3 assists and has so far picked up 18 bonus points, returning attacking points in ten of those fifteen first-team appearances. One of Ba’s best facets as a Fantasy player is his ability to produce whether home or away- 7 of his goals have come in front of his own fans, with 8 on the road; he’s the anti-Jonathan Walters, if you like. His departure for the African Cup of Nations is now imminent and with it will come a drop in price- considering he’s only 7.6 just now, it only makes Ba more of an outstanding bargain upon his return.

Ryan Taylor
With Gabriel Obertan failing to shake off a toe injury in time to face his former club, Taylor’s versatility afforded the full-back a place on the right flank. This allowed Alan Pardew to solve the dilemma of how to fit both Taylor and Davide Santon in the same first XI with the latter slotting in at left-back. Given that it worked to such devastating effect, the Newcastle boss may think twice about changing a winning formula ahead of the home game with QPR next gameweek. Certianly, post-match, the Newcastle boss admitted this was the best team that “was available“.

Yohan Cabaye
The former Lille man is coming to the fore as the second half of the season kicks into gear. An assist against Liverpool last week was followed by an outstanding free-kick against United as Newcastle shook of the lethargy of last week’s Anfield performance. It’s the first time this season that Cabaye has returned attacking points in back-to-back gameweeks and at 5.9, his set-piece duties and flourishing form could see him pick up plenty Fantasy suitors ahead of a run of games that reads: (QPR, ful, bla, AVL, tot, WOL).

Anders Lindegaard
With five clean sheets from his first five appearances, the Dane once again ousted David De Gea from the Man United first XI. His immaculate record was dismantled by a rampant Newcastle, though, as United failed to deal with their hosts’ determination and midfield dominance. Priced at 4.4, though, Lindegaard certainly seems just as capable as earning starts as the 6.4 priced Spaniard now but with Sir Alex Ferguson’s side facing four of the top six in the next seven gameweeks, including trips to Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs, their backline may struggle to produce the points.

Tim Howard
So far, it’s been a bit of a disaster for those Fantasy managers who loaded up on Everton players ahead of the double gameweek. A home game with Bolton offered plenty promise- Everton had conceded no more than a single goal in each of their last eight matches and with the Trotters out of sorts, a victory for David Moyes’ side was very much on the cards. Howard’s goal, a long kick downfield helped by the wind that bounced over stand-in keeper Adam Bogdan in the opposition net, summed up an unlikely night. Phil Jagielka, Leon Osman and Jack Rodwell were all forced off, with David Moyes anxiously awaiting the availability ahead of next Wednesday’s trip to White Hart Lane. Those who have plenty Spurs players, however, will be licking their lips in anticipation of more Toffees withdrawals.

Gary Cahill
While most of the recent talk has centred around his alleged departure to Chelsea, the centre-half hit the headlines for his on-pitch display last night. Cahill returned to goalscoring ways to secure a vital three points for Bolton, as his first goal since the opening day of the season lifted Owen Coyle’s side off the bottom of the table and helped the Trotters record back-to-back away wins. Priced at 5.2, he’s served a reminder of his capabilities and if Cahill’s proposed move to Stamford Bridge does, indeed, go ahead, he’ll no doubt attract the interest of plenty more than his current 18.7% Fantasy owners.

Chris Eagles
Afforded a first start since gameweek 15, Eagles got amongst the attacking points for the first time since the first week in November. Owen Coyle opted for a 4-5-1, with Eagles on the right and Martin Petrov on the opposite flank, utilising the pace of David N’Gog as a lone frontman. Eagles picked up an assist while N’Gog once again got amongst the points for the second away game in succession, netting the away side’s opener after they had gone behind to Tim Howard’s bizarre effort for the hosts.

          I wrote yesterday about Adebayor.

          Aguero 11M 120p
Adebayor 8M 110p (actually Ade just played from GW4)

The Fact: From GW4 until now: Adebayor scored more points than Aguero !

Aguero usually subbed off early at 60-70 min, Adebayor is full 90 min-man, he often scored point in last minutes luckily.

Aguero has better fixtures but the total scores, their difference is worth 3M?

about Rangel: Swansea have hard fixture coming

I know there's a big difference between having Skyrtl and Rangel but really think Aguero will be worth it. Another plus is that if you want to change in the weeks to come it's easier move down than up.

the problem of Adebayor: He still usually scores points although he plays badly. He sometime gets some lucky assistes...just because he plays full 90 mins and top up front for Spurs.

If in real life, I certainly always choose Aguero.

    (Ruddy) - Vorm

Vorm's fixtures are going to be bad: you need a partner.

      Mcauley over Shotton? Meh

      Walters > Sess imo.

It's a great team; I'll have the same strikers, and probably 4/5 in midfield, but just not best ever.

Cheers for the pointers. I work by the strategy that GKs aren't really that lucrative so I stick to a cheap but decent option.

Got McAuley at £4.0m so can't quite stretch to Shotton without downgrading N Taylor (£0.0 in the bank). Plus McAuley's third sub anyway.

And I reckon Sess is coming into great form now he's being used properly by O'Neill. I guess Sunderland and Stoke have reasonably equal fixtures.

O sure, I dont think they are lucrative either. I do think getting a decent 4.5 that has a shot at a cleanie opposite Vorm IS worth it for a meager .5 more.

Why not get Caulker instead of Naylor to fund Shotton?

Sess has good form, but is it really better than Walters' current form? I don't think their fixtures are qual at all: I think Stoke's are way way better.

Stockdale might be a good replacement but only until Schwarzer returns. And it would mean downgrading a couple of defenders, which I don't think is worth it. Vorm can play really well against the big teams, especially at home.

Naylor > Caulker and McAuley > Shotton is a pretty good shout actually, cheers.

And Walters' recent form has been pants, minus Wigan. Sess has been consistent for the last four weeks with either a goal or an assist in every match. Getting rid of Sess with SWA and NOR coming up would be madness, imo.

Dempsey isn't worth his current price. Maybe stay US and get Donovan for now or even take a punt on Sinclair? Aguero's points not consistent enough for 11.1 m for me but could catch fire. Could downgrade him and spend more in midfield, Mata, Stevie G. It's a class team all the same!

Dempsey's upcoming fixtures look pretty delicious, apart from City in GW24 so I think he's worth keeping. Yeah I'm sorta banking on Aguero hitting form in the next few weeks, but you're right, the sensible thing would be to downgrade him. Who would replace him though? And tbh I'm pretty happy with the MF as it is. Stevie G? Are you kidding?

Ok think we've finally got somewhere on the WC team:

    Vorm, Lindegaard
Kompany, Enrique, Cahill (if at Chelsea), Simpson, Kelly (or Caulker)
    Dempsey, Bale, Silva, Valencia, Moses
    Aguero, Sturridge, VP

    Thoughts?

Lindegaard not an option, he'll give De Gea another go after feeding him. Dempsey over-priced. Nice midfield. Consider O'Shea if Cahill doesn't move, which seems likely.

This scheduling thing is bullshit. O'Neill has Sunderland full of confidence and will give it a lash home or away. Sess is a better option and more money for improving ur keeper or defence.

I like it, has good balance.

I would try to downgrade either lindegaard or Moses and try to get in Evans. Should be a fairly consistent starter and into the Manu defense a bit more secure than linde.

You calling someone an idiot is an insult indeed. I was replying to your comment "they have the same fixtures as the first one". As Udit has tried to point out, they don't play the same teams in the same sequence as they did in the first half of the season, so you claiming that based on their rotation previously "logically they’re still best combo" is illogical. Which is logical coming from you I guess... 🙄

As I just pointed out, I was replying to your comment "“they have the same fixtures as the first one”. What did you mean by that? That they play the same teams in the same order? That is the only way that your argument about it being "logical" that they are still the best combo would make sense. But they don't play the same teams in the same order, so I asked you if you'd actually looked at the fixtures. Get it?

    jones rtaylor BAE (naylor shawx)

    nani bale sessegnon cabaye (walters)

    rvp morison adebayor

-used my ft already, drennthe > sess

is it worth it to do rvp > aguero?

or morison > ruiz ? got 2.1m in bank,

Think this is a pretty decent WC team.

    Vorm, Lindegaard
    Simpson, Enrique, Richards, Senderos, Naylor
    Sess, Bale, Nani/Silva, Walters, Dempsey
    RVP, Aguero, Sturridge

Only downside I can see is I will have to be benching one of Sess or Walters each week. But that gives me depth right?

Also, Nani or Silva?? I cant decide. May do Nani then trade for Silva next week.

      Very solid.

But I would downgrade either Walters or Sessegnon, and try to upgrade the other to nani/silva.

Also not sold on lindegaard. Find someone that rotates with Vorm, linde won't get the no. 1

    Krul(Vorm)

    Kompany, Enrique, BAE

    Silva, Nani, Bale

    RVP, Adebayor, Yakubu

one spot left for my starting XI, remaining players are:

    Jagielka(crocked)
    Drenthe(useless)
    Kelly(bla)
    Moses(MC)
already used my only free transfer, 1.3 in bank.

Interesting...yeah I plan to wildcard after those 3 and Richards will likely be in my WC team. If I get one of the 2 you suggest it will also mean Sinclair -> Sess is possible the following week...

i expected more bonus potential out of enrique but so far it hasn't occured. Looks like he's just not BP material. Otherwise its a coin flip, both will get the odd attacking haul.

BUT, skrtel is currently rising in price, enrique is dropping. I would get skrtel, if the .1 isnt going to hurt you now, and hope for success enough from pool defence over the next few weeks to get a selling profit off of him.

They don't play them in the same sequence...?
Oh and this is my last comment on the subject, mainly because just reading your comments is annoying regardless of what is said.
              Byeee.

i can understand, now. My original problem was reading what you originally wrote and taking it for what it said, that swansea and newcastle play the same teams in the same sequence in the second half of the season as it did it the first half. Which means, take gws1-19 for each club and its the same for gws20-38, just home/away has changed.

You don't play the 19 other teams, then play them all in the same order again the second half of the season. Guess what, ALL the fixtures that were on GW13 were reversed on GW20. IT'S LIKE MAGIC!

which fixtures they wont have the same opponents like the frist one?

and their rotation is also good. At lseast you need to look at the fixtures and said it 'terrible'

wait, hold on I think he has a point, obviously Rukawa has worded this wrong, but look at GW1, where vorm had city away and newcastle had arsenal at home now in GW 28 vorm has City at home and newcastle arsenal away.
