Ledley King suffers a hamstring tear and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks. Alejandro Faurlin confirms he is ruled out for the rest of the season, Alan Pardew mulls over a switch to the flank for Hatem Ben Arfa and West Brom’s injury woes rack up:

Ledley King is looking at an extended time on the sidelines after tearing a hamstring. Reports suggest the centre-half could be out for up to eight weeks after suffering the injury in training last Friday and with William Gallas tearing a calf muscle against West Brom last week, Harry Redknapp’s options at the heart of defence are limited. Luckily for Redknapp, Michael Dawson returned to action in the weekend FA Cup win over Cheltenham and is available for selection, in addition to Younes Kaboul and Sebastian Bassong.

Arsene Wenger has dismissed the idea that Thierry Henry could stay on loan at Arsenal until the end of the season. Reports have suggested the New York Red Bulls man could perhaps remain at the Emirates till May, in a deal similar to the one that saw AC Milan retain the services of David Beckham a couple of years back, but it is not a scenario that Wenger has considered:

We have promised that we will send the player back so we have not spoken about that at all. Let’s hope we have the problem. If we have a problem then it means he has done well so I hope we have the problem. But at the moment I can just say no, it is not envisaged at all.

Alejandro Faurlin has confirmed he is ruled out for the rest of the season. The midfielder was stretchered off in QPR’s 1-1 FA Cup draw with MK Dons at the weekend and took to twitter to reveal he has a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

Alan Pardew has suggested he is tempted to play Hatem Ben Arfa on the wing after the Frenchman’s wonder goal at the weekend. Ben Arfa was initially fielded up front alongside Leon Best for the game against Blackburn but his impact on the game only flourished when he was moved to the flank after Gabriel Obertan was withdrawn. Although the player is desperate for a “number 10” type of role, Pardew feels Ben Arfa’s performance benefitted from the shift:

It did help him. Before I arrived, there were suggestions that he had played wide and didn’t want to play there. But Hatem has to understand that it’s about the team, and where we think he fits in best is where we are going to put him. But his talent was there for everybody to see today.

West Brom’s injury woes increased at the weekend after Gareth McAuley picked up a calf strain in the FA Cup win over Cardiff. The centre-half limped off before the end of the 4-2 win and with Jonas Olsson also currently sidelined with a calf problem, Roy Hodgson now has nine players on the treatment table ahead of next weekend’s clash with Norwich.

Seamus Coleman suffered a recurrence of a thigh injury in Everton’s win over Tamworth at the weekend. The Irishman has played only 30 minutes since gameweek 15 and was subbed off before the hour mark at Goodison on Saturday when the problem flared up yet again.

Steve Kean hopes to have Chris Samba, David Dunn and Junior Hoilett available for Blackburn’s home clash with Fulham on Saturday. The trio missed Rovers’ 2-1 FA Cup defeat at Newcastle last weekend, with Samba a last-minute call-off, due to ankle and hamstring issues. With Martin Olsson and Gael Givet also returning, Kean’s injury problems appear to be lessening as he looks to plunder a crucial three points against the Cottagers.

FPL have added the newest January acquisitions to the player list today. Thierry Henry comes in at 7.5, Gylfi Sigurdsson has been priced at 5.0 in the Swansea midfield, while Paul Scholes has returned to the Man United squad with a 5.5 price tag against his name.

Man City confirmed this afternoon they have lodged an appeal over Vincent Kompany’s sending off in yesterday’s FA Cup defeat by Man United. The Telegraph’s Mark Ogden has suggested the verdict should be known by 6pm tomorrow evening, with the case being fast-tracked due to City’s Carling Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool taking place on Wednesday.

Ok, its RMWCT time for me. First of the season for me.

The plan is to captain Rooney this week and swap for Aguero next week.

    Vorm -Ruddy
    BAE-Richards-Jones-Caulker-Simpson
    Bale-Silva-Dempsey-Sess-HBA
    RVP-Rooney(c)-Yak

Could also go for Valencia instead of Dempsey and Ageuro instead of Rooney, but Ageuro's away pts even against terrible sides is not great.

my only concern is ditching Walters for Sess, but I think they will probably score similar over the coming months and Sess has the slight edge in that he can score pts home and away rather than just at home.

This week. It's a bit embarrassing really. I made an early faux pas getting Kompany in...yes, that's right, just before he gets banned for the next 1,000 games.

So I thought what the hell, time to freshen up my side and go for broke over mini league rivals.

Also have a feeling that rooney is going to do well this week, while RVP, Bale and Silva (my other captain choices) are unlikely to.

I don't trust Nani anymore. Ade s on borrowed time too.

Like it. I'd be a bit concerned about Jones' playing time, though - he's hardly missed any games this season and Fergie hates to over-play his youngsters these days, so I can see some rest coming up. His last 2 or 3 performances haven't been great, which could be a result of playing too much.

that is the beauty of having Caulker and Simpson...they both have a good chance of cleanies and are more than welcome. I think Jones will miss the odd game, but on the whole will play. I also think Man Utd could be on the turn...they always do well from this point of the season onwards.

This is exactly what I'm doing - Same front 3 and then switching to Aguero next week. At least you can always trade down if Wazza missfires again.

What will you do if Wazza scores a shedload? Stick or twist? I had him Captain for his first hat trick and then promptly shipped him before his second hattrick).

Interesting article about the nature of form:
    http://premierleaguefantasy.blogspot.com/2012/01/form-fallacy.html

Reminds me of the appropriate use of the word - "in form" as "playing to his potential" not "doing really well". And a lot about FPL is working out the potential of players ("class" if you will), then if they're in form.

Get Sigurdsson in now! At 5M he is a steal. 19 goals for Reading in the Championship, 13 for Hoffenheim last season. Set piece specialist and will probably be on pen, free kick and corner duty for them. Only question is whether he goes straight into the team against Arsenal or the game after that. Also knows Brendan Rodgers having played under him at Reading. If you are looking for a cheap midfielder, go for him now.

"On the 25th May 2011 Gylfi was voted as 1899 Hoffenheim's fans' player of the season, despite only starting 13 games. He finished the season with 10 goals and 2 assists."

"Before the match Sigurðsson was named as the 2009–10 Reading Player of the Season beating Jimmy Kebe and Ryan Bertrand who finished second and third respectively.
He finished the season with a fruitful 21 goals in 44 matches in all competitions.[22] The combination of Sigurðsson's brilliant displays and his young age prompted several Premier League clubs to enquire over his availability but he committed his future to Reading when he signed a 3-year deal in May 2010."

The guy is FPL gold, under his old manager again I can't imagine him not walking straight into the team playing as an attacking midfielder.

He has a history of performing well in big games though, it's not like the Arsenal and Chelsea defences aren't known to leaks. I'm gambling on getting him in now, it was either him or Sess.

This is the team I have after wc unless injury/suspension creep in because of the midweek matches
    Vorm, Krul
    Senderos,Clark, Assou-Ekotto, Richards, Shotton
    Dempsey, McClean, Mata, Silva, Bale
    Adebayor, Rvp, Yak
    I have two preplanned transfers:
    a) before gw22:- bale->Sessegnon
    b) before gw24:- adebayor->aguero

Demba Ba seems to be falling slower than I anticipated. Almost to the point I will all be buying him back at a higher price than I sold him for (gained value lost and all that).

Kompany to fall say 0.2 by Feb if all is held as is with 4 game ban?

    Thinking I'll stick.

I don't really want to WC now so what should I do with this lot?

    Vorm - Ruddy
    Kompany - Jones - Shotton - BAE - Naylor
    Sess - Bale - Nani - Dempsey - Drenthe
    RVP - Sturridge - Ade

1.1 in the bank and 1ft

If the sheet hits the fan (Kompany, Sturridge, Drenthe), I might take a sizeable hit...
