Next up in our summer series of members’ articles, we move to focus on one of the key sources of Fantasy talent – Tottenham Hotspur.

We start by analysing their performance on a team level, assessing last season’s data in order to spot trends and areas improvement. Following that, we drill down into the player data, pinpointing the key individuals.

For this article, we also focus on two specific points of interest for Fantasy managers – assessing the Dele Alli versus Christian Eriksen conundrum, while weighing up the allure of Harry Kane as a “fire and forget” captaincy option.

It’s fair to say that Mauricio Pochettino’s side showed their mettle last season after a disastrous end to 2015/16 saw them pick up two points in the final four fixtures and tumble out of the title race.

Spurs improved their points haul from 70 to 86 and also scored far more goals than beforehand – a total of 86 was far superior to 69 in the previous campaign and more than any team in the top-flight.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

The back 3 is hard to guess, but with Koscielny suspended I guess it's likely to be Monreal - Mertesacker - Mustafi..

Kolasinac and Ox should start in the wing back roles. Ox has looked great and had a full preseason, Bellerin came back late to preseason and hasn't had much time with the team.. Monitor Sunday though..

Lukaku is a flat track bully. With United's very generous early fixtures I think he is going to take full advantage. I intend to start with him and then switch to another premium striker when United's fixtures toughen up.

Repost - Is Phil Jones too big a gamble?

Coming off pre-season and with the European suspensions it looks like Smalling and Lindelof will play together in the Super Cup game and the first group stage game. Does this pave the way for a Bailly Jones partnership in the league for the first few until Lindelof has settled? Mourinho took a while to introduce Mkhitaryan into the first team last year.

I don't think it's worth the risk personally. In fact I'm avoiding Man United defenders in general I reckon.

Bailly and Valencia seem about as nailed as you'll get.

Valencia is quite expensive. If we're playing 3 at the back (which no-one knows for sure) then he might be okay but I still don't feel he's attacking enough.

Bailly is okay for clean sheets but not sure he has much goal threat. There's better options for less money.

So then comes Jones, Lindelof and Blind and to be honest the fact we're having this conversation tells me enough that it's too risky to gamble when there's plenty of other options.

Don't try and cover potential Man United clean sheets with gambles 🙂

I still can't decide where I fall on that question but I think if I go with any defensive option it will be him. Really depends on so much of the rest of my team

I've had lindelof, bailly and jones all in my team at 1 point and wasn't comfortable with any so just went DDG for utd defensive points, put him between the sticks and be done with it.

I'm not too comfortable with going for a 5.5 goalie who will make hardly any saves. Would rather have Heaton and a 4.5 to rotate in for the top 6 Burnley away games than DDG and 4.0

Cheers for all the inputs - think the consensus is a no even though he could perhaps nick a couple of clean sheets in the first few games. Players like Daniels/Cedric at 5.0 can offer potential clean sheets with attacking prospects too which Jones offers none of.

Making attempts at Sanchez teams for fear he's going to come in and ruin everything... The straight up option would be...

    Foster
    Cedric - Daniels - Tripp
    KDB - Cesc - Sanchez - Salah
    Gayle - Lukaku - Chica

    RMT?

Relying on two of the midfield to have decent weeks every week to get a reasonable points total each GW?

No real faith in Gayle/Chica to provide consistent returns

Does anybody know if there's been some analysis of what % of points players (particularly budget defenders/gk) score at home vs away? To help assess how rotation works in reality. Traditional wisdom would suggest that players would score more in easier fixtures, but wondered if this is actually the case if eg you get a big points haul +bps for an unexpected clean sheet under the cosh against one of the top 6 which distorts it.

I'm a member so alternatively if anyone could point me to how I could do the analysis myself am happy to share...

    Trippier / Cedric / 4.5 / 4.5 / 4.5

      No compromise in midfield.

Not too much compromise in defense (my own 343 drafts have the same money invested, but have a 5.0/4.5/4.0 rather than 3 4.5's)

And Elliot is probably as good if not better value than Foster to start the season as long as he's nailed

    Choose:

The bench fodder in both cases is my 3rd sub so I think the argument that a 4.5 defender will score more than a 4.5 striker doesn't make sense since I will not even start my 3rd sub.

    A. RLC and Austin
    B. Milivojevic and 6.0 striker (Abraham)

People saying mili taking free kicks and pens is good but it still doesn't mean he'll return frequently (once every 7-8 id say)

      B. With Zaha in the team there is plenty of chances of FK's/PK's.

Anybody see the saints game the other day where they got stuffed against Augsburg?

I've seen the term "demoralising" used in the write ups. Should this worry me having 3 of them in my squad?

It was pretty poor. But then did you also see their game before that where they won at a canter?

While there's lots to be gained from pre-season, there's also plenty to be taken with a pinch of salt. For example, Chelsea were pretty terrible in their last game

Don't worry too much about pre-season. I mean, Bayern have not scored in 3 games

I'm going without Kane. I'm an Arsenal fan and I refuse to back him unless absolutely necessary. Am I mad?

    Austin vs j. Rod

Thinking j. Rod because Austin has competition in long and gabbi whereas j. Rod will certainly play. For 0.5 cheaper as well it looks good. I just feel if austin starts every week, and with his fixtures, he'll score and WBA don't create many chances.

Rondon will get games. J Rod may play wide sometimes

Pellegrini wants to start with both Austin and Gabbi so I'd go for him.
