Eight victories and a qualifying round later and here we are, the Semi-Finals of the Paddy Power Cup V. A win at this penultimate stage guarantees a prize and, of course, a place in the Gameweek 23 Grand Final. Without further ado, the Semi-Final draw…

sleepingmaster Vs. ChickenDevil

The underdog here is 73,327th in the world sleepingmaster, who is the lowest ranked of all four Semi-Finalists. Over 65,000 places better off than him is his opponent, ChickenDevil. The difference in rank is reflected in both teams squad value. Whilst the top 10,000 ChickenDevil has coffers of over £110m to call upon, sleepingmaster is a good three million worse off. And with funds tied up with Wayne Rooney away at the Emirates, sleepingmaster needs some serious performances from the likes of Stephane Sessegnon.

Raasclart Vs. Funkyav

The second tie pits last week’s top-scorer, Raasclart, against the highest-ranked Fantasy manager, Funkyav. With Funkyav’s Wayne Rooney facing a trip to the Emirates and Raasclart’s Emmanuel Adebayor ruled out of the Gameweek, this one could come down to how those mid-priced options fair. Raasclart’s move in the transfer market for his an Adebayor replacement may also pave the way into the final.

Here’s a reminder of exactly what’s at stake…

  • Winner – £150 worth of free bets courtesy of sponsors Paddy Power. £50 Amazon Voucher
  • Runner-up – £75 worth of free bets courtesy of sponsors Paddy Power. £30 Amazon Voucher
  • 3rd Place – £50 worth of free bets courtesy of sponsors Paddy Power. £20 Amazon Voucher

Good luck for each of our Semi-Finalists going into Gameweek 22. Next week I’ll bring you the results, a subsequent preview of the Grand Final, and news of the next Fantasy Football Scout competition.

Enrique's not a bad punt, if you're going to choose a Stoke defender you're better going for tried and tested... Shotton isn't nailed on and has been niggly

Hate the fact that Vorm is on 87% and I only need one mroe rise to make profit on him, but have to take him out tonight as on wildcard. C'mon people, get him in today...you know you want to 🙂

    Sturridge(C) FTW!!!!!!!

Yeah hopefully. I think we can do it especially as they'll be without Yaya and Kompany still. Parker should hopefully stifle Silva to some extent. Shame we haven't got Adebayor available as he's exactly what we need for these games.

    Having a Bench Nightmare moment

Mid: McClean / Dempsey / Valencia / Silva / Walters
Forward: Aguero / RVP / Sturridge

I'm of the general feeling that the City/Spurs game will be a cagey affair and the Utd/Arsenal game has the potential to turn into a fest.

Currently thinking of dropping Aguero to the bench and playing the whole mid. The process being, at City everything goes through Silva and I have Richards at the back (if he makes it). RVP is undroppable and Valencia, the other candidate, will have a good chance against Arsenal's back four, even if Verm is back (and plays left side). Everbody else is a given due to their fixtures.

    Suggestions?

Valencia has been one of the best performers for Utd and was unlucky not to score more points last week. Walters only ever does it at home and WBA are on a 3 game losing streak. Would need a nit of convincing to drop them

Much may depend on Welbeck's fitness

        Lind

        Smalling Evans Rio Evra

        Valencia Carrick Jones Nani

        Rooney Welbeck

If Weleck is not fit he will either play Hernandez or he'll play Park and push Nani in behind Rooney

Nah I don't think so. You can only see a transfer was made but not the specific player transferred in. You can tell sometimes by computing the previous team value and what is left on the bank. For example I can tell that my rival has brought in Aguero for Rooney this week.
          12.0-11.1= 0.9

Anyone looking seriously at Shaun Wright-Philips?

He played well in the last game, he seemed to be central, behind the striker and had a good amount of possession. Obviously he's not going to be a keeper for the rest of the season but the fixtures look good and he's the only vaguely creative player QPR have so anything they do from open play could go through him. Hughes knows him from MCY, so I expect him to play a lot. Any other pros/cons?

And what are the other options? A midfield of Silva, Nani/Valencia, Sess and Dyer/other cheapo leaves one space free. Dempsey is the bane of my FF life, but I just don't like having in my team for 8.5m. I'm not convinced Walters is worth a place either, not offering much from open play. I currently have Sinclair, who is fine, but I don't want both him and Dyer. I don't want Ramires because I have Sturridge and Cahill and 3 chelsea is overkill at the moment in my opinion. None of the Wolves mids are consistent enough. Bale would be an option but I can't quite afford him (unless I go with Valencia over Nani) and I don't expect TOT to keep their good run going indefinitely. I'm hoping a lack of Spurs players will be my undifferential.

So does anyone think SWP is worth a go?

Only problem with SWP is his lack of ability to strike a ball cleanly. He rarely scores or assists, so although on paper it is a decent punt I'd advise against it.

Id put Valencia in for Fletcher myself. Given is back in goal for Villa and i rate him quite highly. I can see Utd scoring 2 or 3 against Arsenal and surely Valencia will assist at least one of them

Considering him for a punt for skipper. Don't fancy our chances of scoring to be honest, and we have conceded 52% of goals from set pieces, the highest percentage in the top division*. Looking at his stats in the Members area though he doesnt seem to be having many attempts at goal, just trying to figure out if Senderos (or someone else) is taking his set piece threat.

Can anyone help me fill the last spot in my WC team? I cant decide between:

    A) Rooney - playing Arsenal and ManU's goals could come from anyone other than Rooney, although would still be good for possible assists 🙂 Got Valencia/Evans as well

    B) Torres - playing Norwich, but cant seem to get a goal even if he looks good, also a good differential but I have got 1 already in Gerrard. No other Chelsea cover though.

Would only be for 2 weeks, cos then Aguero is coming in.

    thanks, guys

yeah... but... i've felt the pull of the Torres bandwagon myself this week... that off the bar overhead kick last week and 2 decent penalty shouts dismissed did turn my head too...

just not going there again until he can prove he's over the drought with at least 1 goal...

I've got Rooney at the moment and might just stick with that. I'm leading my ML's but the point difference has been eroded the last few weeks with loads of red arrows. It might be wiser to steer the safe route with Rooney, at least until Torres does actually start scoring, as you say.

      Best laid plans.
Get the players you want now. I can understand perhaps having one player you can say next week I'll get rid of but if you have long term plans for multiple players you'll end up with injuries, taking hits and not having the team you want.
