A shift in the fixtures from the red to the sky blue half of Manchester has prompted many to press the trigger and fire up their Fantasy Premier League Wildcard during the international break.

Our Hot Topic posters have been full of advice on how to exploit the Gameweek 8 fixture swing, and specifically for Wildcarders on how to get the most from their chip ahead of next weekend.

Meanwhile, our community article section focuses on the impending finale to this year’s surprise hit – Norwegian Fantasy Football.

With five defenders racking up double-digit FPL points hauls in Gameweek 7, it is no surprise to see rearguard options dominate our Members’ tables round-up.

We finish off our round-up with a glance at those who have have already successfully navigated the early schedule to dominate our community competitions.

The Community Articles

The Fantasy Eliteserien game is entering the home stretch with just a handful of games left in the Norwegian top flight, which has prompted Mr Klint of Norway to take a close look at the teams vying for a European place as well as those battling for survival.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topic

The international break is proving the perfect time for many in the community to Wildcard, particularly in light of the impending shift of favourable fixtures towards Manchester City, as well as Chelsea.

Deploying this chip now also offers Fantasy Premier League managers the opportunity to make some extra money in the transfer market. But as Son Alli Kane Wait explains, those expecting a raft of double risers are likely to be in for disappointment.

Navigating the price changes can also be tricky for Wildcarders, as Lord Bendtner TGSTEL’s Hot Topic on the best time to ditch and swoop for players testifies.

For Lanley Staurel the key to a successful Wildcard is to make genuine changes. He is calling on those using this chip to consider a number of low-owned midfielders with considerable Fantasy potential, including Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho, who is comparing well against Mohamed Salah, according to our Hot Topic.

Timing is also important, with Swinner among those beginning to regret using their Wildcard earlier in the season, when there was less information about team and player form available.

With Manchester United’s fixtures stiffening – they take on Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea in the next four – Romelu Lukaku has been labelled as surplus to requirements for some. This is especially the case for those looking to use some of his £11.8m for investment in Chelsea’s key assets, as well as the key Manchester City midfield options put forward by Sbasty.

Those handing the Belgian his P45 can take comfort from Diesel001’s look at the best captains over the next ten Gameweeks, with the striker listed as the top choice just once. Meanwhile, JurgenRodgers‘ Hot Topic on FPL’s historical greats is also grim reading for those backing Lukaku, as this reveals that strikers are rarely the top points scorers in a season.

However, dumping a player with seven goals in as many league matches could be a huge risk, warns Simon Says.

There was further discussion on forwards in our Hot Topic on the key criteria to consider when assembling a front line.

Those unwilling to part with Lukaku may need to find funds elsewhere, which is where the cut-price options in our budget enablers Hot Topic may come in handy, as will Ludo’s analysis of fixture blocks and rotation.

Sticking with Wildcard advice, Lyonnais’ post on the best formations to consider proved popular this week and strongly advocates a focus on defence. FantasyNik123 is another to urge heavy investment at the back, particularly as more casual FPL managers appear to be very keen on premium defenders from the top sides.

The two-week break from league action also provides Fantasy managers with an opportunity to look back at their successes and failures so far. Kryten invited the community to rate their season so far out of ten, while our latest rough with the smooth round-up looked specifically at Gameweek 7’s trials and tribulations. There was further hand-wringing in our Hot Topic on lessons learned from Gameweek 7.

Our resident statisticians have also had more time to mull over the numbers, with Newcastle striker Joselu proving a divisive figure in NoQuarternt’s look at expected goals (xG). Meanwhile G-Whizz dropped by to unveil the latest fixture difficulty statistics from Doosra.

To view all our discussions please visit our Hot Topics page.

The Members Tables

Have Liverpool defenders just been unlucky to concede 13 goals in the league so far? Norcaljosh has been investigating the Reds rearguard via his latest table and also found time to unearth some more of this season’s most frustrating players.

Attack-minded defenders come under rb2891’s gaze, while neenyg has been scrutinising the statistics of mid-price midfielders.

Elsewhere, FPL Virgin has been looking at the best goalkeepers as well as the most eye-catching Arsenal defenders.

Philippe Coutinho and Joselu’s successful strikes in Gameweek 7 saw them depart the goals imminent table. The latest array of players who look set to score can be found here.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Fabio Borges stays top of the Fantasy Football Scout Members league and Red Lightning’s Top 10,000 Any Season after Gameweek 7 and is now up to 753 in the overall rankings.

In the main FFScout league, the new leader is Damir TeNay. This is his third season and his previous best finish was only 116,000. He climbs to 35 in the overall rankings without using any chips or taking any transfer hits.

Last season’s overall FPL runner-up Uwais Ahmed has taken the lead in the FFScout Moderators and Contributors league, closely followed by Greenwindmill and Scoutcaster Az. Andy may be favourite for the wooden spoon in this league in last spot but he’s flying high in the moderators and contributors Draft league, where he has clung onto the summit.

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing the safety score was 41, which saw 208 players depart and over 3,000 remain with entry currently open.

QPR Utd continues to lead his own FFS Frequent Summer Posters League, closely followed by Urchin and ZoumasBloomers.

Finally, the organisers of the Community Watch tournament urged those taking part to make sure they stay involved or risk being replaced by other eager potential participants.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-Ups, please email us a summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

WC this? Or take a -8 hit and go Dawson, Lascalles and Long > Otamendi, Ward and Simpson. The rotation in the WC team is something makes me want to WC.

    De Gea (Elliot)
    Dawson Naughton Lascalles (Lowe Long)
    Salah Silva Brady Atsu (Carroll)
    Kane Lukaku Lacazette

    Kane Jesus Vardy

If (when) Morata is confirmed out, I'm seriously tempted to replace him with Sanchez instead of Jesus (provided Sanchez gets through the Brazil match unscathed of course). When Alexis starts scoring he normally goes on a big run.

I think so, getting Sanchez just as he bursts into life would be gold, it's just a question of if/when he'll start to explode, otherwise it's serious cash for a player who isn't really returning

I have a slight issue with city players in that as a team they are awesome and will rack up points, but who gets those points (and with Pep who plays - even with the injuries) is like the Liverpool mids lottery of last season, but with rotation risk thrown in

Sanchez is a gamble, but if you have the cash and other spots filled to your satisfaction, then I like it

Thanks. Yeah, it's all about timing with Sanchez. If he scores again vs. Brazil I really think now is the time.

I think he's a player that no matter what, wants to produce, so whatever the situation is regarding his future, he'll still want to showcase his talents, although with no real form shown as yet he is a gamble - that being said there's not many premium mids to chose from atm, so if you have the cash he could be worth it, a premium differential

You are totally wrong: just pick a city player like pool last year, and on a several weeks base, all come good.

What Pierce34 said(wrongly): if you are buying Hazard in the first place, does it matter if he scores big or nothing against whoever Palace or City? You are buying him for points, thats all. You must buy him for a 2 months base.

Liverpool wasn't a lottery last year. There where weeks with Firmino blankig and then scoring, in the end the mids ended up fairly even...

Hilarious, because its a non-question: if you want scoring Sanchez from day one, then just get him NOW and don't look back. If you want to optimise GW scores, find the perfect captain in your team every week.

Not if Jesus plays without rotation ... but I am worried he might be rotated for Sane and Sterling or BSilva or just play half games and leave at thre half with the game in hand. But not sure about Joselu...

11.9m is a hefty sum to pay for someone who has produced just 1 assist thus far. I held him through his blanks last season and it stung, when he explodes he explodes but no fun when he isn't in the swing of things. Let him force you to include him rather than pre-emptively getting him in, especially at that price.

I think he's simmering along nicely - two assists and loads of involvement in the last match indicates the goals can't be far away. Scored for Chile yesterday. As I said above, if he scores again in Brazil I'm probably getting him.

Also what blanks last year? He was fantasy gold! (sure, there was a bad patch by Arsenal just before the DGWs but that was a minor blip compared to what he did the rest of the season)

From gw30-36 he only got 2 goals and the second was in the second dgw match vs Southampton. Thing is with Sanchez once you have him you can't justify taking him out due to his track record.

Also played false 9 for most of his biggest hauls, doesn't seem like he'll be doing that this season

The false 9 is a good point, though in DGW37 and GW38 he hauled big even from a wider position.

As for penalties, I don't think he even took that many. I remember Jakupovic saving one, I remember him scoring one vs. Burnley, and maybe one more.

I do concede I might be a bit premature in terms of how he works with Lacazette.

Yeah that was the minor blip I was talking about. Everyone has their ups and downs, he was probably the most consistent player (fantasy-wise) in the league last year, and definitely the most reliable captain option for me.

I basically just need an indication that he's back in that kind of form, and I'm wondering whether his involvement vs. Brighton, and performances for Chile are that indication.

At 11.9m he needs to be Harry Kane explosive before I include him. Involves massive changes to your squad to do so, I'd rather just go without him for now with a plan to get him when he does explode

Sure, I'm not trying to convince you to get him, but the trick for me is to get him before he explodes, not after 😉

I wouldn't need massive changes - basically I'm debating whether to do Morata to Jesus, or Morata to Joselu and Ramsey to Sanchez.

Hefty sum yeah, okay, but had Sanchez from GW1 last season and 90% captained him, because he can explode. In the end it gave an almost 264x2 (It was240 something x 2). You just didn't hold on.

This season i captained Kane almost all the time, also in August...

I did hold on, had him for his dgw haul and captained him then. Messing about with my captaincy too much in the hope of being that guy who captained so and so and got a 42 pointer was one of my biggest downfalls that season, won't be making that mistake again.

I do like Jesus - I started the season with him and only sold on my wildcard for Aguero before Crystal Palace. Sanchez is tempting me a lot though. Extra points for goal & clean sheet, and can be just as explosive.

You're right about Joselu - I'm not sure either, but would he really be worse than Ramsey in the above scenario?

No need for the extra 0.1m, another strange pre-season bandwagon that hasn't panned out. Crystal Palace's engine has already been to the mechanics but is unfortunately kaput

Yes, the problem is Palace engine seem needed more fuel or anything to make them running. For Serbia, Mili score a goal from long range vs Austria yesterday.

So why on earth would Davies be an rotation risk when he is clearly on top of all stats in the league? I can't believe that Rose, when coming back, is a straight swap for Poch. I think, or i hope so, that Poch is reading the stats too.

Fullbacks for any team will always be a rotation risk to a certain extent given how physically demanding the position is. Spurs have a lot of fixtures due to Champions League involvement so expect Tripper & Aurier to rotate on the right and Davies & Rose (when fit) to rotate on the left. Pochettino may even consider playing Son at LWB to give Davies a rest, he’s done that before.

I've been twisting and turning like a salmon over this Mkhi to Sterling for a hit thing, could regret it either way, Mkhi is still a top player and no doubt underpriced after his previous season. Sterling is being assisted by Silva + KDB. Hopefully some variation of murphy's law doesn't come into play re this.
