Brighton gain their first away victory in the top flight as they exploit West Ham’s malaise to intensify the pressure on manager Slaven Bilic. Here’s the notes from Gameweek 9’s opening encounter.

Clinical Brighton compound Hammers misery

A brace from Glenn Murray together with a long-range blast from Jose Izquierdo consigned West Ham to a damaging home defeat.

In Fantasy terms, the Seagulls’ victory was notable for another assist for Pascal Gross for Murray’s opener. The German’s perfectly flighted free-kick was flicked home by the striker, giving Gross his fourth assist of the campaign.

Along with two goals against West Brom in Gameweek 4, Gross has now scored or assisted 67% of Brighton’s goals when on the pitch. It moved him to 48 points and means that he currently tops the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) standings for points per million among midfielders on 8.4.

Gross is placed third for transfers in following last night’s tally, having gained over 685,000 owners since his Gameweek 4 haul against the Baggies.

Brighton face an attractive home fixture with an erratic Southampton in Gameweek 10, followed by clashes with Swansea City (a) and Stoke City (h).

That run of three matches promotes further interest in Gross, along with Chris Hughton’s defence which impressed in standing firm at the London Stadium.

Shane Duffy is perhaps the standout candidate in that disciplined rearguard. He again bettered centre-back partner Lewis Dunk for clearances, blocks and interceptions (CBI) – a key metric in the Bonus Points System (BPS). Duffy has made more CBI than any other defender this season.

Marcus Suttner can perhaps be discounted from our thoughts. The Austrian dropped to the bench for a second successive away match with Gaëtan Bong preferred at left-back.

In attack, Murray’s brace hints that he could yet be a budget forward solution. However, at 5.7, he sits in the same bracket as Swansea’s Tammy Abraham who is perhaps a preferred target at this point.

It’s also worth noting that Tomer Hemed has now served out his suspension and will compete for minutes with Murray once more from Gameweek 10.

Cresswell makes way

West Ham’s Fantasy stock is perhaps at an all-time low this season after a humbling home defeat.

Aaron Cresswell‘s run of returns – which brought 22 points from Gameweeks 4-7 – has now come to an abrupt end after his manager opted for Arthur Masuaku at left-back.

The Frenchman had impressed in cameo roles – providing two assists – in recent Gameweeks. He was one of the less culpable Hammers players on show in Friday’s contest and would seem likely to retain his start for a Gameweek 10 trip to Crystal Palace.

But Masuaku, along with his team-mates, are unlikely to be of interest to Fantasy managers given the current form and confidence on show.

Chicharito‘s ownership continues to slide after another largely ineffective performance – he’s now scored just once in his last seven Gameweek appearances.

It will likely be left to Andy Carroll to revive Hammers fortunes at Palace, with the striker surely set to return to the starting line-up having served out his suspension last night.

Elsewhere, both Michail Antonio and Manuel Lanzini have the talent to eventually tempt investment but, at present, that seems most unlikely.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Anyone doing an early transfer?

Having a FT before Saturday's game is rare.
Have exact money for Mkhi to Salah. Tempted to do now... But will wait and probably take a hit if being priced out.

cheaper by 0.1m, if you fancy Salah over Couts then price shouldn't be a factor in all fairness

Fair enough. I just think Couts is the better player but as a fantasy assets I think Salah is the better pick and potentially on pens

Great move potentially, but not now

Should d I tell you to not do it, because that's good advice, or should I tell you to do it, and hope that everyone makes silly early transfers so I rise the ranks.. 😀

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Dealing with Gameweek 10’s mini fixture swing

Manchester United and Spurs encounter at Old Trafford makes it tricky to put faith in their assets for the armband and arguably could make the likes of Kane or Lukaku ditchable.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have a plum home tie with Huddersfield, Chelsea travel to Bournemouth and Arsenal face Swansea at home.

Then there’s City’s road trip to West Brom, which could be a banana skin for Pep…or similar to last year’s Hawthorns encounter, when City hammered the Baggies 4-0.

How are you planning to cope with this mini swing in the fixtures?

Are you tempted to dump any of your big hitters?

Which players of those with a favourable fixtures are you considering captaining?

For me it looks to be all about Liverpool. Coutinho or Salah look great captaincy shouts. I'll be getting in one or maybe both.

But who to jettison is harder to consider.

Eriksen out for Coutinho (c) makes sense...but it will be heartbreaking waving goodbye to the Dane.

I'll also be scouting Morata this weekend. He's a player I've coveted and a trip to Bournemouth could make him a good captain too.

Isn't Eriksen the highest scoring player in FPL at the moment? He'd be a season keeper for me. He keeps beating his previous season's score year after year.

There's no such thing as season keepers this is year.

Too many good players producing returns, Coutinho and Salah could easily outscore Eriksen in the next 4.

An example, I was advised not to sell Salah for Sterling on here last week, ignored that advise, Sterling out pointed Salah.

Just been playing around with a free hit chip...actually could be a good plan. Get to keep Spurs assets long term.

Gives a 3-5-2 with Morata, Aguero; Salah, Coutinho, Silva, Sterling and Richarlison as the front seven. Looks very tasty.

I wonder if that could score more than using it around blanks?

Trouble is with that, Liverpool have Good fixtures after that too. Could you imagine what they'd have done to West Ham last night if Brighton got 3?! They have West Ham away after Huddersfield at home.

Arsenal game would be a good use of free hit chip though.

I took the plunge on a WC last night.

The try and tested approach is to bring players in/out based on a run of upcoming games. The 6-game horizon in the ticker is ideal. It doesn’t make sense to make team changes based on a single GW (DGW the exception). It’s business as usual imo.

I'm not sure releasing Eriksen is the way to go this season unless injured. For me, Salah is enough to cover Liverpool.

They can be quite hit and miss against the weaker teams unlike City where it feels like you can trust multiple attacking options at once. What you think?

Most likely going to do a mini wc in gw8 to cope with the fixture swing. Already have 2 United assets jones and lukaku don't mind ditching lukaku to free up funds. 2 spurs assets Kane and alli don't mind getting rid of alli after his poor start to the season. Only 1 city asset in sterling will most likely bring jesus or aguero in if I decide to ditch kaku. 0 Chelsea assets want to bring in one of either morata or hazard for either alli or lukaku or maybe a vardy downgrade to fund Alonso.

Held my WC during the last Int break and hit the button last night to avoid price changes so a good start.

I think Firmino at 8.5m comes back into the equation with L'pool's run of fixtures. Keep Kane, MC and Che assets and have a plan to get Lukaku back for MU's fixture swing in GW 12 🙂

You know it'll all end in tears though 🙁

I set up my GW8 wildcard with GW10 firmly in mind. Sanchez(c) and Hazard are in place and I will add a Liverpool attacker during the week. Salah's price drop was timely in that regard although I may still prefer Coutinho.

I think there could well be big swings in GW10. A lot of big attackers have tricky fixtures. But that guarantees nothing, of course. Arsenal and Liverpool may struggle against Swansea and Huddersfield while United and Spurs have a goalfest. 😕

Will probably just do Lukaku to aguero and captain aguero. Might also make one over move for a hit - perhaps an arsenal or city defender. Teams in ok shape though as currrntly have morata, Sane, salah richarlison all with ok fixtures.

Saved my FT for a double next week. Bookmarked Kaku to Morata if latter plays well today. Can't get a key Liverpool asset without losing Sterling or Hazard, but if Southampton don't perform it'll be VVD to Jones as Mou goes ultra-defensive.

Not considering losing Kane or Lukaku bar injury - captaincy is key, and Kane looks the best captaincy option for GW11 to me, and Lukaku for GW12.

I can understand if you wanted to take the opportunity to sell Alli or Mkhitaryan, though, as neither are playing particularly well at the moment.

Liverpool replacements look great for those two, in Salah and Coutinho - Salah is currently my captain for GW10.

Need to see what’s happening with Jones before using my FT.

Do you think bringing Moreno in for some Liverpool cover would be a decent punt? Know they’re not great the the back but 4.5 is a decent price and they have fantastic fixtures.

I dont think games will be postponed, unless its deemed to dangerous for fans to get there (like Arsenal a few years back?) - even that's stretching

For me, Coutinho is obviously more clinical with his chances but the shear volume of chances Salah makes for himself or is on the receiving end of means he's more likely to be involved in a goal. For that reason Salah. God help teams if he actually converts more than 2% (made up stat).

He's more clinical than Salah based on the fact Salah doesn't put away 99/100 chances. But the fact is Salah gets 100 chances and puts at least 1 away so... Both decent obviously!

I agree. Salah is wasteful TBH. Hence Coutinho is "more" clinical.

Ya more clinical than Salah for sure but just seeing clinical in the same sentence as Coutinho is kind of funny. Couts tends to shoot so much from outside the box and that 1 cracker he scores makes people forget about the 25 he sent into the stands

I think he’ll start. Aguero hasn’t actually played since returning from injury, so it’s hard to see him starting today. Could be wrong however, and plenty of others (including the scouts) disagree.

Sorry but you should be worried. Jesus has played A LOT of minutes including 180 for Brazil. Playing close to 90 midweek won't have helped.

KDB, Silva, Sterling, Sane, Kun today I think.

He's 20 years old, Pep has been playing old man Silva every week without a rest, you think he's going to be worried about if a 20 year old can keep up and do you think a 20 year old will be knackered like he's been playing for 20 years?

Peps comment on Aguero was interesting. The journalist ask him directly if Aguero was likely to start and he said he is ready for this game but was also ready against Napoli so does that mean the idea of Jesus and Aguero playing together is unlikely for the time being

Anyone else feeling a solid 2 pointer upcoming from their captain?

I won't even be disappointed now

This would disappoint a lot of people here
I wouldn't mind a 0-0 or 1-0 with an Otamendi goal and Silva assist

Morning, here's how I'm looking, anything you'd do for next week? Obviously will wait until nearer next week before any changes.
A lot will probably depend on whether Davies starts and what happens with Jesus with Aguero back in the frame.

    Elliot
    Alonso | Jones | Davies
    Coutinho | Sterling | Groß | RLC
    Kane | Aguero | Jesus

    Foster | T.Carroll | Mariappa | Tuanzebe

    Thanks

Loved his 8 last week, if he added to that this week, I think a lot of people who start bringing him in as he's only 4.5m

If Aguero and Jesus share gametime what do you do? There's still as much an argument for owning both as owning one in that scenario as then you don't have the headache of which one is going to get more minutes but then you have a nightmare as far as captains go

Currently own both, but would love Morata instead of Jesus if Aguero stakes his claim as no.1 CF

Do you reckon once Kun gets this goal scoring record Pep will start prioritizing Jesus more? The seem to play better with the extra movement and pressure and two wingers.

Planned move this gw is Vardy ➡ Morata. Gives me -

    Elliot
    Alonso - Kolasinac - Bavies - Jones
    Salah - Sterling - RLC
    Aguero -Kane - Morata

    Pereira - Carroll - King - Hunemeier

    Thoughts?

Really like it and similar to mine except:

      - Jesus instead of Morata
      - Coutinho instead of Salah
      - Mariappa instead of Kolasinac

        Plus:

        - Groß instead of King
        - Tuanzebe instead of Hune (both fodder)
