Manchester United’s 2-1 win at the Emirates appears to have come at some cost, with Phil Jones reportedly facing “weeks” on the sidelines as just one of several casualties.

Jones was forced off after 17 minutes of the Emirates clash with an apparent ankle injury and Sir Alex Ferguson’s post match comments suggest that he could now face several weeks on the sidelines…

“It’s not good news for us…I think Jones will be out for a few weeks – it’s ankle ligaments.”

Reports state that Jones will undergo scans on the injury on Monday, at which point we will hopefully gain a confirmed term of absence.

Jones has suffered a number of knocks and niggles in his first season at Old Trafford and another setback would seem likely to diminish his Fantasy ownership further. The former Blackburn man has suffered heavy sales following his recent layoff with a jaw injury and illness.

There are also further reported knocks in the United camp, with Ferguson confirming that Michael Carrick had sustained a hamstring problem which left him stricken in the closing stages of today’s victory.

The Daily Mail also reports that Nani left the stadium in a protective boot having suffered an injury which forced him off on 75 minutes. Wayne Rooney is also reported to have been struggling with a knock which left him limping from the field on the final whistle.

Should Nani and Rooney face a spell on the sidelines, it would seem likely trigger significant FPL sales. Nani’s blank at the Emirates was his fifth consecutive game without returns, while Rooney has also gone off the boil, fetching just two assists in his last four league appearances.

We await further confirmation of those injuries from Old Trafford, with further reports likely to surface in tomorrow’s press.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

In a bit of a pickle with the current side. Took a punt a few weeks back on the ManU attacking trio - Nani, Valencia, Rooney (went for differentials to the leaders in my main league). Have stuck with them over the past few weeks... with an upcoming home game against Stoke...worth keeping the trio or downgrading one (Nani > Silva?) and keeping two?

    Thoughts appreciated

Ila, appreciate the thoughts. Unfortunately, I used the Jan WC during the first week that it was available as had 6 player in Spurs/Everton for the DGW. My latest punt was to rely on ManU's scoring potential to make up ground on main league rivals

I had intended to transfer Nani > Silva given City's favourable upcoming fixtures... but may wait another week to take advantage of United at home to Stoke (with exception to injury updates on Nani/Rooney)

Yeah probably best to wait for further news on Rooney/Nani. United could always score big in any game so its a good calculated punt.

Spot on, he is living off past glories. i remember when they got thumped by Spurs he had Skrtel at right back marking Bale who ended up getting sent off.

Henderson 20m, Carroll 35m, Downing 20m, absolutely insane prices on such average players. For an extra 3 million he could have got Aguero instead of that donkey Carroll!

The lack of King Kenny criticism in the media is odd

Yeah and his recent comment "Liverpool's Kenny Dalglish: Stewart Downing is better than I thought"

      Hey Elnino,

Good to see NEITHER of us had the guts to captain Sturridge....like we both said we would.

I think you can afford to wait for news on Nani. The dempsey move is a good one. IMO, if you haven't wildcarded yet, you should really try to wait one more week to exile your united and Spurs players and invest in City.

Not yet. I'll give him one more week to show some form. I've stuck with Mata and Studge cos they were always 'nearly' players who looked like scoring/assisting all the time. Yesterday, they had their first 'bad' game after a long time. So that's got me thinking....hoping QPR can sign someone BIG with their sexy fixtures.

        Morning Newman!

Congrats on your successful WC week & heroics with your captaincy 😉 Great week for the Jafa family by the looks of it.

Right? Even if Nani doesn't play, you think I could play Simpson/Moses this week? I don't want to WC this week. Pretty confident Chelsea/United/Arsenal/Newcastle will sign some players and they'll be bargains 😉

Thank you very kindly. Can't speak for Jafa, but I'm well chuffed with Tony V coming through. Took a lot of edge off that awful Spurs result.

Meh, I dont see a lot of points for simpson or Moses this week. If Nani is out, then yes, I might spend 4 points to switch. You might have been smarter to wait on that Dempsey transfer, even if you missed the rise.

Chelsea will probably sign someone. I doubt Arsenal will. United hates doing business in January.

Jafa pulled off a Sess (C) as well, giving me a beating in the L5 opponent this week.

I caught the Dempsey rise. Thinking back, it was prolly foolish cos Lamps might be injured & now Mata has all set-pieces at Swansea. Meh.

I saw his Captain Sess. I was much more upset about it before Valencia did the business today. We're lucky his super strikeforce largely failed. Tough luck pal. For the record, I like the look of your team much more than his.

I didn't even think about all the Mata set pieces. Wow. Hope that doesn't come back to bite you.

then again, its away....so Mata must do nothing, right?

True that, Mata's a big-time homeboy. But had a poor match & I had to bid a goodbye until we sign more Mata's/Drog's back.

Good choice on staying away from Rooney. Looked crocky last night & playing quite deep like a CAM.

I barely have 11 starters for next week so I need the likes of Nani and Rooney to start. I am waiting for news before I pull the trigger. Got plenty of time before the next rise

daddy's here! Wait till I meet you in the L5 you cheeky lil fella 😉

I'm playing this other cup (money involved), where every other GW is considered. So GWs 23 & 25 are crucial for me - one of the reasons I might WC if Nani isn't playing.

Yeah that rule has funny. I find myself making transfers with every odd week in mind, rather than focusing on the current one. 😕

I really would love to wait. Guess no news on Nani so far is good news. If he can be rested for the FA Cup vs Liv, he'll be fresh for Stoke. Looked super sharp last night & extremely unlucky to get a haul.

Hows my team looking for GW23

    Mignolet

    Kompany, Richards, BAE

    Dempsey, Valencia, Silva, Bale, Sessegnon

    Ade, RVP

Subs : Vorm, Fletcher, Brown, Senderos

Was planning to do Ade > Aguero for gw24 but might just stick and use the funds to update Ba when he comes back

BAE for fixtures, but that's another loss and you'd only want him back in 6 weeks.

I'm not sure how much faith I have in FUL defence, other than as last choice. But you will be getting home / away rotation with NEW and I don't think they'll ship 5 again.

So BAE or Senderos - depends on how much you want to alter your team structure.

BAE was on the cutting block initially to fund Ade to Aguero but now that I'm considering keeping ade I could afford to keep him. Not totally sold on newcastle defence with Tiote missing for a while also.

0.5m to improve this GW24 wildcard draft - any ideas. I'll be wildcarding again in GW28 (to bring back some MUN, TOT etc) so this is for 4 weeks only! Cheers!

    Sorenson, Schwarzer
    Richards, Huth, Simpson, Senderos, Caulker
    Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Walters, Sigurdsson
    RVP, Aguero, Helgusson

Would only play him in GW25, but perhaps Schwarzer -> Vorm? Or maybe upgrade Helgusson?

Looks fine. I don't know much about Sigurdson.

Huth I assume for potential attacking returns? With Citeh next 5 fix I would rather get one of their defenders. Can you explain the Schwarzer love? I really don't get it.

...just get Vorm and stick with him. Chelsea could not score at NOR(LOL) so no reason why Vorm won't do well vs them this week. No way Sorensen will keep a CS this week and I'm not so sure Stoke/Ful are teams i would want to double up in defence.

Yeah, I heard that too. I guess I'll get an idea after this weeks games - if Sorenson starts then he should be fine. Re Schwarzer, he should be back well in time for GW25 (the only game I plan to play him before my 2nd wildcard in GW28). If not them 2, which keepers would you get for GW24-27 only?

Sigurdsson appears to be on all free kicks and corners and is a shooting machine. Scored something like 20 goals from midfield for Reading a year or so ago when Rodgers was in charge. I needed a cheapish mid to play GW25 when Walters has a tough fixture, and it was either him, Dyer or Moses.

Yeah, Huth has 3 good home fixtures in the 4 fixtures. I already have a MCY defender there (Richards), and am maxed out on MCY players so can't get more.

Schwarzer purely cause I wanted a keeper with a decent GW25 fixture (when I'd be benching Sorenson).
