Harry Kane hopes to recover from illness in time for Spurs’ clash with Swansea on Tuesday night. Wayne Rooney is available for Everton’s trip to Bournemouth, while Andreas Christensen could return for Chelsea’s home meeting with Stoke City, who face a defensive crisis for the trip to west London.

Here’s our summary of the key team news so far as we await this afternoon’s press conferences.

Fantasy managers were thrown an unexpected curveball earlier today as Mauricio Pochettino conceded that Harry Kane has been struck down by illness ahead of the first match of Spurs’ double Gameweek 22.

The Spurs boss had this to say on the matter:

“He’s ill. He’s cold, like me! The doctor was there at his house, like with all the players when they don’t feel good. We’ll see tomorrow if he can train and be here. But it’s not a big issue. Today I don’t know if he’ll be available or not.”

The striker is apparently optimistic of recovering in time for the Wembley clash, with his fitness now a major factor to consider, with many looking to wield Triple Caaptain chips in light of his back-to-back hat-tricks against Burnley and Southampton.

Fernando Llorente is the likely candidate to deputise against his former club, though Pochettino could even opt for the in-form Son Heung-min to lead the line should Kane miss out.

Over 134,000 FPL managers have brought in the Spurs striker despite the lack of a Gameweek 21 fixture, making him the second most popular acquisition up front. He is also the most sold striker in the Gameweek, with over 158,000 parting company.

Those still holding may now think twice over playing their Triple Captain, while non-owners now face a dilemma – do they bring Kane in and run the risk of him not being available for both matches?

Given that Spurs don’t play until Tuesday now, it’s very unlikely that we will get any further official update ahead of Monday’s 11.30am deadline.

Now on to the Gameweek 21 news….

Eddie Howe has revealed that he will make late calls on a number of players ahead of the home clash against Everton, with Charlie Daniels, Andrew Surman and Harry Arter all doubts. Junior Stanislas is sidelined with a groin problem.

Meanwhile, Sam Allardyce has confirmed that Wayne Rooney has recovered from illness, and is available for the trip to the Vitality Stadium. James McCarthy “should be available”, but Idrissa Gueye (hamstring) is more likely to return against Manchester United in Gameweek 22.

Andreas Christensen missed the 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion due to illness, but could return for Chelsea’s home clash against Stoke City after reportedly returning to training yesterday. This could see either Gary Cahill or Antonio Rudiger drop to the bench.

Mark Hughes will be without the injured Ryan Shawcross for the trip to Stamford Bridge, while Kurt Zouma is ineligible to face his parent club. According to the Potters boss, Erik Pieters “has an outside chance” of being able to return, but Bruno Martins Indi and Glen Johnson miss out, leaving Stoke desperately short of defensive options.

David Wagner looks set to hand a recall to Laurent Depoitre for the home meeting with Burnley after the Belgian was limited to a second-half substitute appearance in the 1-1 draw against Stoke.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche revealed that Stephen Ward remains doubtful ahead of the trip to the John Smith’s Stadium due to a knee problem, while Chris Wood is rated as “touch and go.” James Tarkowski continues to serve his suspension.

Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson is out for around a month with a hamstring injury, while Jurgen Klopp could consider handing a recall to Sadio Mane for the home encounter against Leicester City.

The Foxes will be without Danny Simpson for the trip to Anfield, with the defender sidelined for four to five weeks with a hamstring injury. Daniel Amartey is available again after serving a one-match ban, and may deputise at right-back.

Florian Lejeune and Isaac Hayden remain doubts for Newcastle United’s home fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion. Mikel Merino, Matt Ritchie, Christian Atsu and Dwight Gayle are all set to push for starts having featured on the bench against Manchester City.

Pascal Gross and Anthony Knockaert are expected to be handed recalls for the trip to St James’ Park, while on-loan midfielder Izzy Brown returns to the squad after being ineligible to face his parent club Chelsea.

Roberto Pereyra was withdrawn with a knock in Watford’s 2-1 win over Leicester but is expected to be in contention for Swansea City’s visit to Vicarage Road. Will Hughes (hamstring) remains doubtful, while Troy Deeney continues to serve his four-match ban.

New Swans head coach Carlos Carvalhal is expected to hand a recall to Tammy Abraham for his first match in charge. Ki Sung-yeung (calf) is a major doubt, but Leroy Fer (back) should be available.

Chris Smalling (groin) remains a major doubt for the home fixture against Southampton, while Matteo Darmian (knock) and Anthony Martial (knee) will be assessed after sitting out the 2-2 draw with Burnley. The latter was pictured in training yesterday, though Antonio Valencia is not expected to be available as he continues to nurse a hamstring problem.

As for Saints, they’ll again be without injured duo Cedric Soares and Ryan Bertrand, while Charlie Austin is both suspended and laid low by a hamstring injury. Steven Davis, Dusan Tadic and Manolo Gabbiadini could push for recalls at Old Trafford.

Crystal Palace’s Joel Ward is not expected to be available for the home clash against Manchester City after missing the last five matches due to a calf injury. Elsewhere, Eagles boss Roy Hodgson could freshen up his midfield by handing a recall to James McArthur.

Vincent Kompany limped off with a calf problem in the 1-0 win over Newcastle United and looks set to miss the trip to Selhurst Park. Fabian Delph (knock) will be assessed having missed Wednesday’s victory, while Leroy Sane is expected to be handed a recall in attack. We’ll be hoping for an update on David Silva later today, with City yet to comment on his Tyneside absence.

West Bromwich Albion head coach Alan Pardew is likely to be without Salomon Rondon for the home meeting with Arsenal; the forward picked up a hamstring injury in the goalless draw against Everton. Hal Robson-Kanu may replace the Venezuelan up front.

The Gunners are set to be without Nacho Monreal once again, with the Spaniard struggling to overcome an ankle injury. Arsene Wenger could continue with a 3-4-2-1 set-up, allowing Sead Kolasinac to retain his role at wing-back.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s 2.00pm deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter account for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from Friday’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

Okay, some more now on Harry Kane from Mauricio Pochettino himself:
"He’s cold, like me. He’s at home, the doctor was at his house."
Will he be fit to face Swansea? "We’ll see. I don’t know if he’ll be available or not. We’ll see how he reacts."

Don't know about everyone else but I'll have 4 dgw players (Adrian, Kane (c), probably Vertonghen for safety of playing time and Arnautovic or Lanzini, probably Arnie)

With that for no hit, a high score and green arrow shouldn't be too tough.

With Kane news, TC isn't necessary anymore. The 2 day gap was already a worry so playing both seems unlikely.

Should be able to get green that week anyway so TC can give another strong week later on.

Antonio Conte admits he had to replace in-form defender Andreas Christensen for Tuesday’s win over Brighton due to illness.

He said: “To have a base of 18 players – very strong – then to try to make the rotations because it’s very difficult for the players to play every three days.

“To have this type of rotation you have to work a lot because [against Brighton] for example David Luiz was out with an injury then at the last moment Andreas Christensen was sick.

“And I had to find the solution to play with [Gary] Cahill for the first time in the middle with [Antonio] Rudiger and [Cesar Azpilicueta].

“It means that behind you have a lot of work otherwise you risk to change the position of your players.

“We have just started this path. In this season we wanted to improve our squad – the numerical aspect, to try to improve the quality of the team.

“But at the same time to play in this country and to face many competitions it’s very important to have many players in your squad.”

Christensen will be back on Saturday to face Stoke city which means, Rudiger will be dropped.

Surely too much uncertainty to TC him now. It would seem foolish for Poch to risk starting him against Swansea when he’s not fully fit and Llorente needs the game time.

              Massive curveball that’s for sure.

Yes, altered plans from defensive changes to sitting on him until 1:50pm tomorrow.

Was never going to TC him.

Im selling for Morata if no news tomorrow, with the understanding he won't make the DGW at all and we'll see him back at home to Everton on 13th January. I think this is how it will pan out. Although I can bring him straight back after tomorrows games if he is deemed fit for Swansea.

My DGW players will be Adrien, Masuaku, Son.

Its one of them moments in the Fantasy season that defies the good from the great. Dealing with a DGW, Kane out and money to spend in the right places without wasting FT's separates the best from the rest,

I will obviously screw it all up and fall from my 8,000th ranking with pain and anger.

"In the next week", i.e. GW 21 and GW 22 whereas Kane gets a blank for 21 and then faces West Ham for 22.

Was already on the fence over using the TC given proximity of matches. Think this confirms I won't risk it, still be captain though as would consider him being it in either of those matches.

Non-owner here. Was gonna bring him in and TC.

Now, I'll still bring him in, probably, but won't captain him. Slight hesitation on bringing him in because would be for -4; annoying if he misses Swansea game. But if I don't and he starts both, I'm defo done for the season.

This being said, this news has made me change my mind on Spurs mids - if Kane is benched or out, Llorente or SON will start up top.

Will bring in Son instead of Alli.

It would be fine if he was confirmed out. Easy switch to Morata this week and then money freed up for eriksen/alli/arnie etc. The uncertainty is annoying.

1.5x capping is ridiculous, makes it sound like it's as points than the normal captaincy. When people say "captain", the double points is implied (surely everyone playing FPL knows what captaining someone does), they call the chip "triple captain" for the obvious reason that it gives triple points

              Changes nothing for me.

Was reluctant to TC him, just didn’t feel right after two hat-tricks (not going to keep that up), two games in 48 hours, everyone will be captaining him as he’s the only real option (lessens effect of TC chip). Just my opinion anyway.

I won’t be taking him out for Morata and back in as I only have one FT.

I’d rather get Son and Alli in for the DGW than waste two transfers on Morata who hasn’t exactly been prolific.

He has picked up a cold, lots of days to go until the nest game ....

Kane, who has scored hat-tricks in successive games, missed training on Friday but manager Mauricio Pochettino hopes he will have recovered in time for the game at the Liberty Stadium, live on Sky Sports Premier League.

"He's cold, like me," said Pochettino. "He's at home, the doctor was at his house. "Will he be fit to face Swansea? We'll see. I don't know if he'll be available or not. We'll see how he reacts."

Think its best to wait instead of the drama. He was sick yesterday and plays on the 2nd. Thats 5 days to recover.

This makes Son even more of an ‘essential’ in the DGW.

              He’s in great form.

If Kane isn’t declared fit he’ll probably still get the nod ahead of Llorente.

His value and recent starts makes him a very viable option going forward after the DGW.

Even if he doesn’t start one of the games he’s a great impact sub.

Looking forward to owning him, he’s a player I’ve converted for a while but never seemed to hold down a regular spot in the Spurs
team which he has done now.

A lot of responses about bringing in Eriksen, Alli or Son.

For who? I would have to ditch one of Hazard, Sterling or Salah. Assuming many have a similar midfield.

I can’t afford Richarlison to Son without at least 1 hit. Happy to bin Haz for a week but will want him back. I’m keeping Kane throughout.

Surely he'll play. He'll need to get off to a flyer to beat his 2017 goals record!

Jonty, quite frankly this is appalling for you.

Has the "Kane Illness news" altered your Gameweek 22 plans.

Firstly, where is the question mark at the end?
What is this news? Hot topics are supposed to be a well rounded conversation starter.

You are so much better than this! What happened?

TC is out of thew question now, no matter what news there are hereafter. I was thinking of it as a differential.

But I Weill Captain him, unless worse news come. The reason, mainly, is that I will not have any other GW22 Spurs assets. That is my gamble. I feel that DGW22 will not be worth -4's for Spurs. With a saved transfer, I will rely on Adrian and Ogbonna.

Triple captaining still. Surely can’t be worse than the last two seasons anyway.

              2015-16 - Lukaku 12pts
              2016-17 - Aguero 27pts

On wildcard so have switched to Morata(c) for this week. Can’t get any Spurs mids as I have double City and double Pool already. Will def get Kane back and will likely risk the TC. Would like to just use it and get it out of the way really. It’s a real burden having TC, BB and the wildcard planning wise in the later part of the season.

Burden having chips at the end of the season? You sound like one of those numpties that gives out about having subs scoring points on their bench!

Those burdensome chips could be the difference between you defending a lead or catching a leader in a mini league come the end of the season. Say Kane gets another double like he did towards the end of last year with was it back to back hattricks and an assist 37 points wiped out between you and opponents as you only have single cap on him.

              Wasn’t considering triple cap.
But after this illness crap, definitely going to triple cap. Going to pay off handsomely . Could even be a differential if more ppl are changing their mind with not captaining or tc

Any ideas for the transfer here, as I have 2 FTs.
Can’t find any pressing issues before DGW

            Pope
            Otamendi - Jones - Christensen - Robertson
            Hazard - Salah - Sterling - Richarlison
            Morata - DCL

Bench: Elliot - RLC - Kane* - Ogbonna*

            2 FTs
            bank: 0.1 M

            Thinking:
            A) Pope ➡ Adrian (not sure on double WHU defence for the DGW though, and Adrian could be dropped/roated)
            B) Richarlison ➡ Lingard (any of them will become Arnie for the DGW, so kind of 1-week pick)
            C) DCL ➡ Depoitre (DCL not sure of starting anymore)
            D) sth else in mind..?
