Having wrapped up the previous gameweek in this afternoon’s digest post, we can now turn our attentions to this weekend and beyond. Once again, we bring the fixtures list under review, assessing the weak and the strong from the upcoming fixture schedule…

Before we begin, non-members may note we now have a demo version of the ticker available to try, using data from the 2010/11 season. For those unfamiliar with the intricacies of the ticker, click on this handy “how-to” link for further explanation:

The Strong

Fulham

Given that Man City had won all eleven of their previous home games, Saturday evening‘s Etihad loss was hardly unexpected for Martin Jol’s men. The upcoming fixture schedule should afford the Cottagers a chance to bounce back, though, with some promising gameweeks on the horizon.

Three home clashes in the next five look prosperous, as Stoke, Wolves and Swansea all make their way to the Cottage. Jol’s side have dropped just five points in their last six in front of their own fans, and have scored 22 goals at home, only 2 less than Tottenham.

A trip to QPR, with Mark Hughes’ side yet to record a clean sheet under his leadership, and a visit to Villa Park – where the hosts have two points from their last six at home – should hold no fear for the London outfit. With Clint Dempsey looking set to remain in an advanced attacking role, his Fantasy suitors will continue to grow, though with a single clean sheet in the last ten, defensive returns haven’t been as guaranteed as we’d hoped for.

QPR

It all seemed so promising last Saturday. One-nil up thanks to a Bobby Zamora debut goal, Mark Hughes’ side were bossing the game against Wolves but Djibril Cisse’s red card turned the match in the visitors’ favour and saw QPR taste defeat for the first time under their new manager.

Having scored 5 goals and picked up four points in the previous two games under Hughes, there’s a clear upturn in performance since the departure of Neil Warnock and, providing they can keep eleven men on the pitch, their prospects looks enhanced over the next few gameweeks. Back-to-back home games with Fulham and Everton are sandwiched by trips to Blackburn and Bolton; all offer the chance of goals, as Hughes looks to replicate the Martin O’Neill effect down Loftus Road way.

Hughes has already spoken of the importance of Adel Taarabt- the Moroccan could be a key figure over the next few matches. The set-pieces of Joey Barton could be instrumental, with Zamora charged with grabbing the goals in Cisse’s subsequent three-match absence.

Wigan

Without a win in their last nine matches, the Latics hardly inspire confidence. Nevertheless, the fixture list remains kind to Roberto Martinez’s side and could yet prove prosperous. Villa, Swansea and West Brom all roll up to the DW over the next five gameweeks and offer the chance of Fantasy points- Wigan have been beaten just once in their last five home games, holding the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool and narrowly losing to City.

Trips to Bolton and Norwich both offer potential, with the likes of Hugo Rodallega (with 23 points in his last four starts) likely to be pivotal if Martinez is to mastermind a climb up the table. Jean Beausejour could prove a real differential; the winger grabbed an assist and the maximum bonus in his home debut against Everton, while we’ll always hold out hope for the enigma that is Victor Moses.

Man City

Roberto Mancini’s side ready themselves for three home matches in the next five, with two of those in particular looking full of goals. Blackburn and Bolton roll up to the Etihad in gameweeks 26 and 27 respectively and Fantasy investment in the league leaders looks set to mushroom, with Sergio Aguero and, to a lesser extent, David Silva, strong armband candidates. Given that City have scored 3 or more goals in ten of their twelve home games, the potential is obvious here.

City will need to up their goal threat for trips to Villa and Swansea, though. The league leaders have been toothless on their travels of late, scoring just once in their last four away games and returning a couple of clean sheets in the process; Micah Richards and Vincent Kompany-if he recovers from a knee problem- look set to benefit from such defensive resolve.

Also Consider

Chelsea – the 3-3 draw with United extended their unbeaten run to five and brought Juan Mata back into consideration. Home games with Bolton and West Brom are amongst the Blues’ next four, affording the Blues further opportunity to produce the Fantasy points.

Newcastle – trips to Spurs and Arsenal are far from easy, but with Demba Ba scoring 8 of his 16 goals on the road, the prospect of returns is far from diminished. Three strong home fixtures against Wolves, Sunderland and Norwich afford Ba and Papiss Demba Cisse the chance for goals, with the likes of Tim Krul and Danny Simpson offering defensive options at the back.

Aston Villa – Alex McLeish’s side have impressed on their travels of late, winning three and drawing one of their last five. With Darren Bent is fine goalscoring fettle, trips to Wigan and Blackburn and a home clash with Fulham look tempting.

The Weak

Liverpool

Kenny Dalglish’s side have netted just 4 times in their last five, with Craig Bellamy grabbing half of those goals. The return of Luis Suarez failed to breach a resilient Tottenham back-line, with the Anfield no-score draw returning their third clean sheet since gameweek 20.

Clashes against United and Arsenal will test their defensive resolve, though, and with a blank gameweek 26 due to Carling Cup commitments in addition to a trip to Sunderland, many will be giving Liverpool a wide berth over the short-term.

Everton

David Moyes’ side may well have three home fixtures in the next five, but when you consider the visitors are Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal, the appeal considerably lessens. The Toffees have been grinding out the points of late, with the 1-1 draw at Wigan taking their unbeaten run to four, but have picked up a single clean sheet in their last six and have failed to score more than 1 goal in the last twelve gameweeks.

Factor in that blank gameweek 26 and it seems likely that owners of Leighton Baines will likely be seeking options elsewhere and, unless the introduction of Steven Pienaar and Nikica Jelavic can produce an upturn in attacking fortunes, goals are looking a rarity, too.

Tottenham

Harry Redknapp’s side are set for a truly testing time, as they face up to a run of fixtures which includes clashes with four of the top six over the next six gameweeks.

Home games against Newcastle and United, in addition to cross-town trips to Arsenal and Chelsea, will test the resolve of a defence which has harvested 9 clean sheets so far this season. Fantasy owners of Benoit Assou-Ekotto could see diminished returns, and with Emmanuel Adebayor netting once in his last nine games, it appears Gareth Bale is the only clear Fantasy asset worth targeting, or holding onto, over the upcoming period.

Also Be Wary Of…

Stoke – Tony Pulis’ side have a couple of strong home fixtures with Swansea and Norwich around the corner, but, aside from those two games, the next six gameweeks look awful. Trips to Chelsea, Spurs and Fulham and a home clash with City all look likely to disappoint. With just 5 goals and 2 clean sheets in their last eight games, the Potters are not exactly in the best of form right now.

Arsenal – the next four gameweeks look a real test for the armband potential of Robin Van Persie. The Dutchman’s 23 point haul against Blackburn justified many a Fantasy manager’s decision to hand him the captaincy but trips to Sunderland and Liverpool, and home showdowns with Spurs and Newcastle, could see many look for alternatives.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Bit of lottery that Chelsea DF right now if you cant afford Cole or Terry. Ivan played well last game and it would be a crime if he were dropped. And he's just about affordable to you.

Not sure I trust them defensively myself but I might take a two-week punt on Cahill next week if he starts this weekend and plays well, purely on fixtures alone. All my other DF are 1st choice so I can afford to risk carrying him for a short spell

Is it worth taking a 4pt hit this week to get rid of Huth? I have decent line-up for this week so I don't really need him or his replacement (JEvans or Cahill) this week. I like my side and am fairly confident. I have Simpson as 1st DF sub who I'm sure at least won't get hammered off Spurs.

BUT Huth is in minus figures on FISO and Ba will go up maybe just after the deadline. And no matter what if I will be taking a hit by selling Huth to raise the cash for Morison>Ba that week anyway.

I'm leaning towards no though, just to get the points on the board this week and not lose any more ground on my mini-league leader (50-odd points behind in 2nd)

My team was very similar to yours , i decided i couldnt risk not having Dempsey so went

      Huth to Caulker
and Walters to Dempsey for a four pointer

Maybe you could do something along those lines although ii see you have caulker already.

        Downgrading Huth, and then Walters->Dempsey.

yeah lots of people going to be captaining Dempsey , a big score by him would be a nightmare , at least if have him will limit the damage. I will probably captain Bale , but Dempsey big option for weeks to come , so 4 point hit well worth it i think

Yeh I've already done Walters>Siggs. So I'll be playing all 5 midfielders and I'm captaining Dempsey this week. He's a big differential in my mini-league.

It would just be Huth>Cahill/JEvans and then probably straight on my bench for 4pts hit this week instead of next.

You're that confident in Simpson's chances? Defensively, Newcastle been pretty brutal in their away games.

Gave up 5 to Fulham, 3 to Liverpool, 4 to Norwich. They did keep out Blackburn and Bolton though, for whatever that's worth.

Not really, thats why he's on my bench. Just think that they probably won't get hammered and if Simpson has to come on (-unlikely) for me he might bring 2pts and if he gets lucky 5/6pts.

I would say take a hit, but only if its to bring forward a transfer that you were already planning for a few games time. I'm bringing in Evans for him, rather than GW28. So it frees up a free transfer later down the line.

Personally I think Man Utd are going to hammer Liverpool, I just have a feeling, they've just drawn to Chelsea which was a bit of a blow to their challenge but an inspiring comeback. A nil-all draw would just be a disaster for Man U. I can see them winning convincingly by 3 or 4 goals

Don't know if this will end up being effective but I've changed my strategy and gone with 3 'big' strikers (RVP, Aguero, Ba) and 3 'big' mids (Silva, Bale, Dempsey) with 2 'small' mids (McClean, Moses).

I know I will always end up playing the 3 strikers and it's not much of a selection dilemma with Moses and McClean esp when they rotate perfectly!

Defensive weak link at the moment is McAuley who sortof rotates well with Caulker.

Need to get in Krul for Kenny though since I managed to free up some funds after doing Sess->McClean

My wife is getting in Evans for Huth as well. But will probably bench him and play big Verm. Liverpool alway tend to up their game against man utd so i don't see a clean sheet. Don't see a clean sheet for arsenal either, but there is the increased goal threat.

there's supposed to be an attacking threat, but he showed no signs of a threat in a game arsenal scored 7. facing the most in form team in their stadium doesnt bode well for CS. I agree i dont see a CS necessarily for utd either though. If senderos is out, i suppose that will "solve" my problem.

You reasoning is like valid for sometime in November.

Verm is no longer a BIG goal threat. No CS for Arsenal.
Liv are struggling to score, home or away.
SAF will look to tighten the screws at the back after shipping 3 goals.

    Feeling like an idiot.

Used my FT to swap BAE for Kompany a few days ago but really want Dempsey in now.

Would swap Valencia for Demps for the next GWs due to Man U fixtures but it'd cost me 8-pts to downgrade Kompany to Richards and do Val to Dempsey.

Guess so! Just got to hope Dempsey fails to hit the net or gets subbed on to make a cameo appearance.

The most difficult decision this week will be the captain choice though, driving me crazy not knowing who to pick!

Ha. Probably a good call. I might try and take a week off fantasy. Maybe take the wife and bairn away somewhere with no internet! The full two weeks would be a bit much. A week off would be good preparation. After all two weeks is nothing, when you consider the end of the season is only 14 weeks away or something. At least there should be some fantasy euros to keep us going!

LOL, no those stats still hold true, but I can't find a better captaincy choice this week, plus as jack rightly said Newcastle at home is by far one the easiest fixtures for the top 7, a newcastle defense who have shipped 5 goals away to foolham. But his points vs top 7 teams are indeed very unimpressive, 24 points, but I have a gut feeling that he'll rip it up. and btw, stop hitting out on guy, he knows and owns logic

            He's tall and I guess that's why he's so awesome on set-pieces.

But he lacks positional sense whilst defending. Lacks strong decision-making (take the dive against Sun in the attacking half). If not for ShawX who keeps him disciplined, he'd be a no-fit for Stoke.

Hey I took the armband off from RVP on Saturday. The havoc they caused in my fantasy paradise is an absolute nightmare. Anyways I couldn't believe when I saw you had benched McClean. You were crazy about him right from the outset (you almost initiated the bandwagon), more than convinced me that I should buy him, and yet you benched him.

As for Aguero, he is gonna have the armband for the two consecutive weeks at home. So give it to someone else this week (Bale, Dempsey or Sess)

McClean benched was the logical decision and I still don't regret my decision. Maybe I could played him over Dempsey but I fancied Dempsey's chances with no Kompany.

Sir J. McClean is awesome! unless it's a mindblowingly awesome fixture, he can stay on my bench and I'd be happy that I'm covered with any injuries to my front 7, since he'd come on.

Aguero or Silva for me. I can see them doing some serious damage at Villa Park.

And it's definitely not insaaaaaane. They way you say it, it's like I'm benching Ronaldo or RVP. I really think Sunderland could score a goal or two against Arsenal at home, so for me, it's a toss-up between Aguero and Ba as to who takes the place on the bench.

Sunderland plays a mid-week FA Cup clash as well. As much as I'm a big fan of MON (as you can see, I have 3 Sun players), I doubt it will be a goal-fest.

              I'm going with a 0-1 or 1-1.

I'd have to say Siggs too, but I've just brought him in so I'm obviously biased. But just noticed you don't have Silva. So that would be an essential signing for me with some tasty looking fixtures for a while. Money no object of course 🙂

Beckham wouldnt be unused to flak. He's been breathing flak for his entire career. I suspect his PR agent (i.e. Posh Spice) has been giving dodgy advice again. Although I am sure he moneys are pouring in.

You know what, I'm actually considering this week taking a 4-pt hit to do Silva to Dempsey, then getting Silva back the week after.

Would have enough money to do it, seems crazy though and obviously Silva could run riot too.

    Decisions decisions.

No way. Seems insane. How much would you lose in value on this deal?

I'd rather lose Toni V (until GW28) for Dempsey

I'd end up losing nothing as I was a bit of a moron and made some bizarre changes. Brought him back in GW17 and he went down and back up to what I bought him for now at 10.5

Would do Valencia straight away but 0.2 short so I'd have to downgrade a defender which would lead to an 8-point hit.

Think I'm just going crazy with not being certain who to captain for a change, plus I'm on top of the mini-leagues I want to win now so I'm feeling the pressure haha.

100% don't take a 8pter to do anything so Toni V is off the transfer list.

I honestly think I'd just leave it, but it's easy for me to say with Dempsey sat as my Captain.

True, I'll just have to deliberate over who to captain.

Does seem a huge risk to take a hit for it, just hope it doesn't backfire.

There's only one mini-league I really want to win and looking at the teams near me, only one has Dempsey and the rest seem somewhat similar to mine.

Think I'll do as suggested and leave and hope for the best, cheers guys 🙂

Walters-Dempsey sets you up for weeks and gives you an on form guy who's either playing upfront or just behind the strikers with great fixtures. Sinclair has one nice game and then will fade down the pecking order

As much as I love dempsey (might be bias because I'm from the US, and I live in Texas just a few hours from his hometown) I think the chances of another hat trick for him are slim to none. I do think its pretty funny that they just now figured out that Dempsey is purely a forward. He DOES NOT track back to save his life, he's a creative goal scorer that belongs in that position.

hahahaha yeah. This is my first season playing and my first squad had pretty much been just my favorite players.. which was kind of a bad strategy since like 4 of them were either hurt or had just gotten transferred out. It was really late and I think I was going to use my wild card and just didn't hit the button I guess. I have to say there was a looooooooooooot of acohol involved as well. I think I was at a grand total of 6 beers, 6 jameson and cokes, 3 jaeger bombs, and whatever those other shots were... needless to say I woke up the next morning with a completely different squad and 32 points down. 🙁 sad day

    aguero->rooney gw 28?

seem i need to think about utd attack again with fixtures improving. plus will want to get rid of one of my city players. looks like an optimal time to make the switch. time to think about saving up a million in the bank to afford the transfer. getting ba in for gw26 so thinking save transfer gw 27 and do verm, aguero->5.5ish defender/rooney

Thoughts? anyone else going without utd attack atm?
