Having wrapped up the previous gameweek in this afternoon’s digest post, we can now turn our attentions to this weekend and beyond. Once again, we bring the fixtures list under review, assessing the weak and the strong from the upcoming fixture schedule…

Before we begin, non-members may note we now have a demo version of the ticker available to try, using data from the 2010/11 season. For those unfamiliar with the intricacies of the ticker, click on this handy “how-to” link for further explanation:

The Strong

Fulham

Given that Man City had won all eleven of their previous home games, Saturday evening‘s Etihad loss was hardly unexpected for Martin Jol’s men. The upcoming fixture schedule should afford the Cottagers a chance to bounce back, though, with some promising gameweeks on the horizon.

Three home clashes in the next five look prosperous, as Stoke, Wolves and Swansea all make their way to the Cottage. Jol’s side have dropped just five points in their last six in front of their own fans, and have scored 22 goals at home, only 2 less than Tottenham.

A trip to QPR, with Mark Hughes’ side yet to record a clean sheet under his leadership, and a visit to Villa Park – where the hosts have two points from their last six at home – should hold no fear for the London outfit. With Clint Dempsey looking set to remain in an advanced attacking role, his Fantasy suitors will continue to grow, though with a single clean sheet in the last ten, defensive returns haven’t been as guaranteed as we’d hoped for.

QPR

It all seemed so promising last Saturday. One-nil up thanks to a Bobby Zamora debut goal, Mark Hughes’ side were bossing the game against Wolves but Djibril Cisse’s red card turned the match in the visitors’ favour and saw QPR taste defeat for the first time under their new manager.

Having scored 5 goals and picked up four points in the previous two games under Hughes, there’s a clear upturn in performance since the departure of Neil Warnock and, providing they can keep eleven men on the pitch, their prospects looks enhanced over the next few gameweeks. Back-to-back home games with Fulham and Everton are sandwiched by trips to Blackburn and Bolton; all offer the chance of goals, as Hughes looks to replicate the Martin O’Neill effect down Loftus Road way.

Hughes has already spoken of the importance of Adel Taarabt- the Moroccan could be a key figure over the next few matches. The set-pieces of Joey Barton could be instrumental, with Zamora charged with grabbing the goals in Cisse’s subsequent three-match absence.

Wigan

Without a win in their last nine matches, the Latics hardly inspire confidence. Nevertheless, the fixture list remains kind to Roberto Martinez’s side and could yet prove prosperous. Villa, Swansea and West Brom all roll up to the DW over the next five gameweeks and offer the chance of Fantasy points- Wigan have been beaten just once in their last five home games, holding the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool and narrowly losing to City.

Trips to Bolton and Norwich both offer potential, with the likes of Hugo Rodallega (with 23 points in his last four starts) likely to be pivotal if Martinez is to mastermind a climb up the table. Jean Beausejour could prove a real differential; the winger grabbed an assist and the maximum bonus in his home debut against Everton, while we’ll always hold out hope for the enigma that is Victor Moses.

Man City

Roberto Mancini’s side ready themselves for three home matches in the next five, with two of those in particular looking full of goals. Blackburn and Bolton roll up to the Etihad in gameweeks 26 and 27 respectively and Fantasy investment in the league leaders looks set to mushroom, with Sergio Aguero and, to a lesser extent, David Silva, strong armband candidates. Given that City have scored 3 or more goals in ten of their twelve home games, the potential is obvious here.

City will need to up their goal threat for trips to Villa and Swansea, though. The league leaders have been toothless on their travels of late, scoring just once in their last four away games and returning a couple of clean sheets in the process; Micah Richards and Vincent Kompany-if he recovers from a knee problem- look set to benefit from such defensive resolve.

Also Consider

Chelsea – the 3-3 draw with United extended their unbeaten run to five and brought Juan Mata back into consideration. Home games with Bolton and West Brom are amongst the Blues’ next four, affording the Blues further opportunity to produce the Fantasy points.

Newcastle – trips to Spurs and Arsenal are far from easy, but with Demba Ba scoring 8 of his 16 goals on the road, the prospect of returns is far from diminished. Three strong home fixtures against Wolves, Sunderland and Norwich afford Ba and Papiss Demba Cisse the chance for goals, with the likes of Tim Krul and Danny Simpson offering defensive options at the back.

Aston Villa – Alex McLeish’s side have impressed on their travels of late, winning three and drawing one of their last five. With Darren Bent is fine goalscoring fettle, trips to Wigan and Blackburn and a home clash with Fulham look tempting.

The Weak

Liverpool

Kenny Dalglish’s side have netted just 4 times in their last five, with Craig Bellamy grabbing half of those goals. The return of Luis Suarez failed to breach a resilient Tottenham back-line, with the Anfield no-score draw returning their third clean sheet since gameweek 20.

Clashes against United and Arsenal will test their defensive resolve, though, and with a blank gameweek 26 due to Carling Cup commitments in addition to a trip to Sunderland, many will be giving Liverpool a wide berth over the short-term.

Everton

David Moyes’ side may well have three home fixtures in the next five, but when you consider the visitors are Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal, the appeal considerably lessens. The Toffees have been grinding out the points of late, with the 1-1 draw at Wigan taking their unbeaten run to four, but have picked up a single clean sheet in their last six and have failed to score more than 1 goal in the last twelve gameweeks.

Factor in that blank gameweek 26 and it seems likely that owners of Leighton Baines will likely be seeking options elsewhere and, unless the introduction of Steven Pienaar and Nikica Jelavic can produce an upturn in attacking fortunes, goals are looking a rarity, too.

Tottenham

Harry Redknapp’s side are set for a truly testing time, as they face up to a run of fixtures which includes clashes with four of the top six over the next six gameweeks.

Home games against Newcastle and United, in addition to cross-town trips to Arsenal and Chelsea, will test the resolve of a defence which has harvested 9 clean sheets so far this season. Fantasy owners of Benoit Assou-Ekotto could see diminished returns, and with Emmanuel Adebayor netting once in his last nine games, it appears Gareth Bale is the only clear Fantasy asset worth targeting, or holding onto, over the upcoming period.

Also Be Wary Of…

Stoke – Tony Pulis’ side have a couple of strong home fixtures with Swansea and Norwich around the corner, but, aside from those two games, the next six gameweeks look awful. Trips to Chelsea, Spurs and Fulham and a home clash with City all look likely to disappoint. With just 5 goals and 2 clean sheets in their last eight games, the Potters are not exactly in the best of form right now.

Arsenal – the next four gameweeks look a real test for the armband potential of Robin Van Persie. The Dutchman’s 23 point haul against Blackburn justified many a Fantasy manager’s decision to hand him the captaincy but trips to Sunderland and Liverpool, and home showdowns with Spurs and Newcastle, could see many look for alternatives.

25 points from 4 games, 2 of which were Arsenal and Chelsea. At home, OOP, Swans in form and Norwich normally leaky on the road. It's between Dempsey, Bale, RVP and Siggs for me. Currently Siggs(c), Dempsey(vc)....

Personally, I think Evra is a waste of funds when there are cheaper United alternatives, that or Sinclair to Siggy/McClean could free up £££s for Fletcher > Ba?

I've lost all faith in Stoke, plenty of replacements available in the 5 mil price bracket that ShawX currently sits in.

Agree, I believe the % needed for a player price fall is bigger thats all, protection used to be applied when they lost the flag price would freeze for 10 days or so.

          A) At current rate he won't drop by Sat morning. But as we all know far more transfers happen on Friday than the preceding four days. I expect swift reaction to the red on Friday night and a fall on Saturday 3am.

          B) I see him falling only once this GW so that leaves only one more GW til GW26 capping his max fall to 0.4 by start of GW26. He will need ~120,000 transfers out for this (a 60% fall in ownership) which I don't find likely, plus they need to be evenly distributed to avoid wasting some at a fall. I see a min 0.2, max 0.3 fall.

        Morning chaps, couple of questions

Is there a better replacement for Walters than Sigurdson (already have Demps,Val,Sess,Bale) ?

Should I double up on City def with Lescott or go with Evans for Utd coverage GW28 on ?

Completely stumped about first XI for GW25 - surely I can't be the only one

        Vorm (Lind)
BAE, Micah, Evans (G Cahill, Santon)
Bale, Valencia, Dempsey (C), Silva, Sess
        Ba, RVP (Aguero)

Main brain teaser is Aguero. His away form is pants, and I can see Ba getting a goal at Spurs

Bookie's scoring odds seem to weigh in against this though .................... anyone benching Ba against Spurs????

Would like to bring Siggy in this week to free up funds for Ba next week - But which one of the "slightly less power 5" would you drop?

        Valencia ?
        Silva ?
        Dempsy (No way)
        Bale (No Way)
        Sess ?

Or save transfer and then 2 free's next week ......... Mclean > Sess and Graham > Ba

Are nani/young likely to replace Valencia this week?

Fair point about Man U - I live in Norwich and spirits are high at the mo, but they did just lose two center backs at the weekend. Although really that's all the more reason to get Siggy in for this weekend.

            That's what I'm thinking.

Have Krul and Santon just missed the cut on Wildcard, so think he's going to be the replacement.

He just makes the most sense, even though have 5.8 for the potential Huth replacement.

Would allow Dempsey or Valencia to turn into Mata/VDV/Nani in a few weeks time.

I have 8.4 available but think it's best to ignore cash in this situation and focus on the fixtures as that's what I based getting Huth on in the first place, which is why I wouldn't frown upon anyone choosing ShawX.

That's exactly why I think I am going for Santon. Might even leave it a week.

Think lack of Huth probably won't help ShawX and it's only the SWA, NOR fixtures I like now, so looking more long term.

No one else's fixtures are that appealing. MAYBE Cahill, but would be a bit of a punt like Huth and that one didn't work out too well........

Yeah not too keen on doing a punt for a punt, that's why another Newcastle defender is more appealing than Cahill or even Wilkinson who could start at 3.9 for Stoke. I think Stoke's record for cleanies is better without Huth this season actually. It was the goal threat that most picked him for. The cheeky bastard had to go and score in the FA cup the weekend before 👿

I'm currently stuck with two STK players - Huth and Walters. I brought them with January WC for their favourable home games and the plan was to get rid of them after GW27 by:
        Huth -> LIV defender
Walters -> an in form, reliable 4,5m midfielder

Now Huth is banned and Walters out of form and his position in the front line (can be restored, though), I don't know, whether to get Shawcross in for Huth and stick to the plan or just make these planned transfers earlier.

        Walters -> Valencia
        Sessegnon -> McClean?

Well, it's better to have 50 pts on the bench than -3 :). There would be a problem if over a long period of time the players you benched scored more then those in the starting eleven.

Siggy is the obvious choice, but I know Rangers fans on here were raving about Adel's performance in the last game and it looks like he's OOP with Gerbil. I've been burned before by the little maverick, but bla, FUL, EVE, bol seems too good to pass up.

He has okish fixtures, Norwich are improving but Swans are at home, Stoke away who the hell knows, then Wigan, but then it's City.

He is in form, Tarrabt is not, although the Rangers fans on here reckon he's about to explode.

Ah yeah don't get me wrong, I would probably lean to him over a punt on Tarrabt.

It was just the fact that Good fixtures were used as a Siggy positive, whereas that was the main thing I would say Tarrabt has in his favour.

They aren't horrendous for Siggy but of the remaining home games I would fancy for the rest of the season it would only be NOR (this weekend) BLA (GW34) WOL (GW36).

Beating West Brom and Villa is not enough to convince me that Swans will be great on the road from here on out.

He doesn't work hard enough for the team or even himself. Flashes of brilliance with not much to show for it. He could be a top player if he applied himself but he just doesn't seem that bothered. Great to watch when he fancies it but not much FF returns.

Ah but did you read what Hughes said about him, everything you said seemed to disappear vs Wolves, he was tracking back, defending and working for the team, plus there's a chance he may be on pens. It's a gamble fo sho.

In your humble opinion, who is the ideal replacement under 5.7m for Jose-Enrique?

        My current defence is:

        Mignolet. Krul.
Richards. Assou-Ekotto. Evans J. Santon. Jose Enrique.

So Chelsea fans what do we think of the chances of Luiz losing his place to Cahill?

Luiz has beena bit of a liability at CB. Great player but just makes too many mistakes for a CB. Terrible marking for the Utd goal springs to mind.

Am thinking about bringing in Cahill after the Everton game in time for Bolton. Obviously if Cahill doesnt play against Everton, or does play and has a stinker then I'll disregard him entirely.

However, I'm thinking if he plays well against Everton and Chelsea even keep a clean sheet then it will be worth a punt on Huth>Cahill for Bol(h) & WBA(a) before switching to Evans in GW28.

What do people think? Clutching at too many straws?

Long term there is just too much uncertainty over Cahill's place because of CL rotation, the fact he still hasn't started a match with his rivals all available and AVB IMO bumming Luiz despite him being a defensive liability (maybe he might work in some magical high line system AVB may never get to work).

It would be hard to justify Cahill if Chelsea had the best defence in the league, fact is they don't and while they have conceded less of late they are still not bankable CS.

I'm benching Krul and playing Vorm, fwiw.

I think the chances of the toon conceding are only marginally greater than Sunderland. Not a nice choice...

Anyone getting Papiss Cisse in over Demba Ba this GW?

Ok, Ba takes the pens but Spurs have conceded only 1 pen this season... Cisse will play right up front with Ba dropping back a little... he's cheaper, he's dynamite in front of goal and his differential value is huge. I must admit I'm wavering cos Ba is the proven quantity, but I'm very sorely tempted.

        Why not?
