Our series of members’ Monitor articles on Wildcard targets continues this evening with a look at Manchester United’s number one, David De Gea.

As has been the case for almost the entirety of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season, the Spaniard sits on top of the positional rankings and is the most owned goalkeeper overall.

However, despite that, De Gea has rarely featured at the summit of our Watchlist rankings until this point, with his two double Gameweeks and kind schedule now a major factor.

De Gea has accumulated 144 FPL points, six points clear of his nearest challenger (Manchester City’s Ederson), while an average of 4.8 points per match (ppm) is bettered only by Burnley’s Nick Pope (4.9ppm).

Amazingly, De Gea is now just five points short of Tom Heaton’s league-leading 149-point haul recorded last season – despite the United keeper still having eight matches left to play.

More impressively, should he maintain his current per-game averages, De Gea even looks poised to break Joe Hart’s single-season record of 166 points recorded in 2011/12 – when the City keeper combined 17 shutouts with 99 saves.

On the basis of these numbers, it would seem impossible to argue that anybody but De Gea belongs between the sticks of in our squads over the final eight Gameweeks.

Digging deeper into the keeper’s numbers, however, highlights a surprising decline in output.

I've got 3 pieces of shit with double gameweeks and 2 from actual good teams. That's as template as it gets. Are they just weak because one of them isn't Alonso?

              I didn't imply no Alonso.

Robertson is a rotation risk and not sure about Schelotto (may as well get Dunk). Lowton is a small but acceptable rotation risk given the potential rewards. Morgan is a great template pick. Bailly is a good pick but no one really knows with his injury record etc. Is he the optimal £6m defender? I don't know.

It's good. Arsenal could hurt you, but probably would't go with other players than auba if I had the free hit

I can see Auba hurting everyone who's put faith in him. He was locked in my team but swapped to Lukaku as soon as he didn't have a double in 34

    Which bunch on WC?

    A) Hazard, van der Hoorn, Tomkins

    B) Willian, Valencia (double-up with DDG), Fernandez + 1.0 itb

Quite keen on Hazard as an explosive differential to climb the ranks and maybe slightly more security for starts in the DGWs than Willian, but is it worth it overall? Maybe the United double-up is a viable alternative to climb the ranks itself?

Its not just a matter if how much better BB37 is - it is that:

          - DGW players are largely incompatible with 35.
          - DGW fodder is largely incompatible with 37.

So for the sake of 15-20 points you are effectively reducing your points potential elsewhere.

Forget all this overkill bollocks. Just look at whether or not they are good individually, if you think they are then they are also good picks together.

Personally I don't trust Lingard so wouldn't get him, but that's a separate issue to it being "overkill".

What they said. Though there is a slight issue that they compete for same bonus points - this is vanishingly small though.

    Fill in blanks****
    A Vertonghen Vardy
    B Firmino Mustafi

On B as Firmino done so well for me this season, I have no FH and both he and Mustafi have week 35 games. Overall all 4 have Sane number of games (4) between weeks 32 and 35 and think Firmino could well out score Vardy.

But Vertonghen Vardy popular here tonight

    De Gea Ryan
    Alonso Smalling Lowton Morgan ****
    Salah Son Willian Mahrez Groß
    Aubameyang Barnes ****

Just put Smalling in for Mustafi as Smalling due to rise soon.

Better to have gotten Smalling cheap if we hear news on Jones.

Can reverse this and nothing lost if I decide against Smalling

Murray Gud v Barnes Gross is really tricky... Murray’s next 2 home fixtures with Brighton needing points to guarantee safety shouldn’t be underestimated! May have already payed his way via points returns by the time DGW34 comes round, at which time 4 points will be his final farewell

Could someone explain to me how all the top defenders in the watchlist are all players I have never heard of (besides smalling)?

I've got Alonso, Daniels, Davies, Ogbonna and Van Djik, and besides Alonso i've got not one of them.

Is it mostly because of upcoming DGWKs?

How are you supposed to keep up with all the defensive team changes? One minute, Davies is hot, then the next he doesn't even get a mention...same for Van Djik??

Is anyone considering Charlie Austin instead of Murray?

Austin has a much better second double GW than Murray and has 5 goals in his 5 starts this season and 1 off the bench.

I know it's a bit of a risk as he is only back from injury but it's a calculated one.
