Our series of members’ Monitor articles on Wildcard targets continues this evening with a look at Manchester United’s number one, David De Gea.

As has been the case for almost the entirety of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season, the Spaniard sits on top of the positional rankings and is the most owned goalkeeper overall.

However, despite that, De Gea has rarely featured at the summit of our Watchlist rankings until this point, with his two double Gameweeks and kind schedule now a major factor.

De Gea has accumulated 144 FPL points, six points clear of his nearest challenger (Manchester City’s Ederson), while an average of 4.8 points per match (ppm) is bettered only by Burnley’s Nick Pope (4.9ppm).

Amazingly, De Gea is now just five points short of Tom Heaton’s league-leading 149-point haul recorded last season – despite the United keeper still having eight matches left to play.

More impressively, should he maintain his current per-game averages, De Gea even looks poised to break Joe Hart’s single-season record of 166 points recorded in 2011/12 – when the City keeper combined 17 shutouts with 99 saves.

On the basis of these numbers, it would seem impossible to argue that anybody but De Gea belongs between the sticks of in our squads over the final eight Gameweeks.

Digging deeper into the keeper’s numbers, however, highlights a surprising decline in output.

So rather than naming my whole team how does this sound. On WC but no Free Hit.
DGW 34 - 10 DGW players and B.B. save ft.
    GW 35 - 10 players after using 2 ft’s
    11 if I take a hit.
    DGW 37 - 10 DGW + Salah + TC

Following reading this article I decided to form a DDG-less WC.

My plan would be to downgrade Auba>Vardy and upgrade Dubravka>DDG for 34. This gives me Hud home for Dubravka (32) and Hud home for Ryan (33) before the double.

    Dubravka • Ryan
    Alonso • Vertonghen • Smalling • Lowton • Morgan
    Salah • Mahrez • Son • Willian • Groß
    Lukaku • Aubameyang • Barnes

Tough one. To ger Hazard in you need to drop some players in the defence (like alonso at least) I don't think haz is worth it.
Think you can get Alonso and upgrade elsewhere if you downgrade Haz.

Sorry not kept up to speed on this but from reading the comments I'm assuming the main decision people are toying with assuming all chips intact is whether to:

    a) TC in 34 and BB in 37
    b) BB in 34 and TC in 37

    Would that be right?

    1. FC Hakkebøf
      • 8 Years

B is by far the more safe option.. gw37 is prone to rotation as the league might be more settled and for some teams done and dusted

I had that down as my preferred strategy but I'm assuming some people have switched based on the 34 DGW fixture announcement.

I need to go back and read over the members article if I can find it.

Got all my chips and this is my WC team. £0.5m in the bank.

Any improvements? Also is this the correct line up for GW32?

    DDG
    Smalling, Christ, Dunk
    Salah, Willian, Son, Mahrez
    Barnes, Lukaku, Auba

    Ryan, Gross, Morgan, Lowton

    Chasing the GW34 perfect side.
    WC this week?
Does anyone want United defenders vs City in GW33?
Does anyone want Spurs players this week?
Do people really want a strong bench for 32 and 33?
Do you really want to discard the 3 Pool players most people have to get in DGW's with good fixtures?
Do you really want to accommodate double DGW players to cover GW37 when the there are still 5 juicy single GW's with other alternatives?
Arsenal have great fixtures. Do people avoiding them due to a lack of DGW in 34 run a risk?
I change my mind all the time but when on a downer these questions come up.

I don't have the FH chip and not been hurt so far.
FH34 can be good but I can get there without it.
Use the FH chip limits a bench boost and 37 is a risky BB.
However, one can get luck with the right choices GW37.
City last home game in GW37 will be a bumper show IMO.

    Morning gents,

How’s this WC team looking with only bench boost remaining?

Plan to bench boost with 9 DGW players in 34 then roll into 35 with 9 players + 2FT to bring in City.

    DDG Hennessy
    Bailly Roberston Tark Lowton Morgan
    Salah Mahrez Son Gudmunsson Mili
    Auba Lukaku Firmino

I’ve opted for Henn + Mili as they have nice fixtures over 34/35 (despite no double) and are cheap enablers who can sit on bench rest of season.

With Pool playing Bournemoth in34 I have opted to WC 35, get 9 players in 35 and easy cover DGW's later. No matter how I do it I cannot satisfy myself with a WC team now.

The current thinking has Chelsea, Tottenham and West Ham playing their second fixture in the midweek of 37 in London. Unless this is staggered over 3 days or the whole GW is played from Friday - Thursday I just don't see this happening. The alternate solution is to probably have one or two games on played in 36. You could potentially have mouthwatering fixtures like Chelsea (swa, HUD) and/or Tottenham (WAT, NEW) falling in GWK 36.

The official communication says matches will be scheduled around 37 could just as easily be a few days before. IMO, there is no way 6 matches will be scheduled in the midweek. In Ben Crellin's sheet if you look at the historical data never have they had more than 5 rescheduled games shoe-horned into another week. This probably means we may still get an alternate strategy for using our remaining chips.

That really depends on how many games each broadcaster has left their in quota. We've already had 5 friday night kick offs which was what they had last season. So it's not necessary that they will use it again.

Ofcourse, my whole post is about just a possibility that has not been completely considered.

From the remaining fixtures probably only Swansea Southampton game wouldn't be on TV normally so I doubt the broadcaster's will let the fixtures clash and their ratings drop.

          Agreed.

The advertising revenue from premium games must be huge, so why play all the remaining blanks during the same midweek where they all clash with each other. All of the 31 blanks didn’t go to 34 so we have some precedence

... but it would be so funny to see a few go back to GW35 🙂

I suggested something along these lines a couple of weeks ago, but was batted away by the groupthink that all fixtures will drop into 34/37, just because.

Really don't see that PL has any control over TV agreements, if Sky/BT prefer to move one or two fixtures to another week, then that's exactly what they'll do.

Just as well everyone is saving their WC for next week to get the full lay of the land... 😯

Fair enough, but I'd recommend that a good lesson learned this season would be not to 'dead-end' your team for the blanks next season..WC is the most powerful chip, and forcing your own hand into a WC rather than waiting to see all the options for the run in was a popular mistake IMO... to be fair, it seemed like a genius move when it was conceived but with hindsight it has hamstrung a lot of squads in the weeks running up to the blanks (with Walcott etc), and forced a WC immediately after the blank. 🙁

Thats a fair point. But those wildcarding now can build a little flexability into their wildcards if they wish, to help deal with any surprises too, without compromising it too much

Still happy with that move. Only the Salah haul makes people who planned a bit silly but a 15 point advantage is a good ranking boost over a normal team. But your point about "dead-ending" your team holds valid more now where even those on wild cards and all chips need to be flexible for all scenarios.

If you fill up your WC team on 34 double players you will be without any option but to FH in 35 and is a strategy that only works for those without TC. Whereas if you have all 3 chips left you'd like to build your team for probably a FH 34, TC 36 and BB in 37.

Yeah, I had Barnes benched but he has been in goalscoring form so worth starting him I guess, cheers。

Been tinkering with my WC and ended up on this (for now)
Low TV, all chips intact, BB 34, FH 35...

    DDG - Ryan
    Alonso - Mustafi - Lowton - VDH - Morgan
    Mahrez - Son - Salah - Gudmundsson - Macarthur
    Lukaku - Auba - Murray

I know midfield looks a lot weaker than others, but happy with my starting XI for each GW and have tried to avoid rotation risks, let me know your thoughts 🙂

Mustafi & Murray probably rotation risks. Then again you could say the same about Salah!

I like it, Murray could be rotated come 34 though if Brighton are safe

Folks on a WC, I presume everyone is holding onto Salah but are you getting rid of your other Lpool assets like Firmino VVD Robertson or Mane?

Getting rid of both Firmino and Robertson myself (unfortunately)... UCL will imo be prioritised meaning either surprise omissions in the PL or players being taken off early, and in case of Firmino couldnt justify him over Auba and Lukaku for that reason

Ya I have VVD and Firmino and on a WC and feel it's time to move on for the DGW assets

I've dropped Firmino and Robertson. As much as I didn't want too.

Ya it's hard to part ways but I think i'll be getting rid of VVD and Firmino for DGW assets as well

Who do you think will make it into next week's wildcard template that isn't in this week's template?

Suspect UTD interest will cool, with City away.
Chelsea and Spurs assets likely more appealing.
Varez will no doubt hold down their spots.
Pace gathering on BHA assets..with teasing HUD fixture.
