Dugout Discussion – Spurs vs Man City

We end a marathon day of football at Wembley Stadium which provides a fitting finale as Tottenham Hotspur host champions elect Manchester City.

But it’s not Pep Guardiola’s City that hold the interest for Fantasy managers, as Harry Kane goes into tonight’s contest as the most signed player ahead for Gameweek 34 (255,000+) and wearing just over a million armbands.

Kane’s recent output has been hampered by injury, though having been awarded a controversial goal at Stoke City in Gameweek 33, he still boasts attacking returns in five of his previous starts.

Christian Eriksen has also proved a big draw ahead of this encounter, claiming 158,000 new owners before today’s deadline to edge ahead in the popularity pecking order in the Spurs midfield.

Son Heung-min may just have slipped down that ladder – he is benched today as Erik Lamela gets the nod. The South Korean will therefore likely start the away fixture with Brighton on Tuesday, though only three of his 12 goals this season have come on the road.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

all those in my league who have neglected their teams & still have Firmino, Sterling, Mane - they're doing way better than me... totally over-thinking this game

    Free Hit Rules

The Free Hit chip can be used once a season, is played when confirming your transfers and can't be cancelled after confirmed.

After playing your Free Hit chip, at the next deadline your bank balance and squad is restored to as they were at the previous deadline, with any player price changes in the previous gameweek reflected.

Any change to your bank balance whilst the Free Hit chip was active will be lost.

Make transfers, wait for the rises. Then activate FH later in the week.

      Cheers, Geoff!

Wait for the changes to happen before making the FH chip active and then they'll count?

My understanding is that the price rises will be reflected once you get your original team back regardless of when you activate your FH

You have your usual team. It will go up and down in value in the lead up to GW35.. regardless of the FHC.

If you sell a player and want him back this week you have to pay his current value. Just like a wildcard.

If you delay hitting the FHC then you might make an extra 0.1m SV but it's likely that you don't my want to sell that player if everyone is getting them in.

This is talking about the bank balance (i.e. money ITB). If you make a FH team with 2.0 ITB. You won't magically have 2.0 ITB when the team reverts to the previous week's squad. Stating the obvious, but that's all they are doing 😆

(As far as I understand it. Though of course they could be using 'bank balance' to mean something other than money 'in the bank')

Everything you do this week will go back to your original team. You can't both escape the hits and gain significant value from your transfers. You can, however, build up your TV for this gameweek.

The changes that are going to be lost are the gains you've made on your FH.

The changes to your original squad will continue happening even though you're on FH

FH cancels previous transfers made in that gameweek, like the wildcard. Earlier in the season people played the FH after taking point hit's and didn't recoup the points (this was a thing on Reddit) but it was an FPL glitch that was fixed and those players got their points back.

They should be cancelled, but there's no point trying to play the market that way. For me, at least, that's more risky in case you accidentally forget.

I am activating the chip and then treating it as I normally would for price changes. If one of my players is going to rise later in the week and it'll give me a higher selling value, I'll wait for that rise so I'll have 0.1m more on my FH team

Player price changes aren't reflected in the bank balance 'at the next deadline'

Do you mean the price rises you would have had with your real team, before you hit the FH button? Are you asking if you still get those rises?

          Yeah. At the next deadline:

          Squad = reverts to previous
Bank balance = reverts to previous
Price changes = reflected in bank balance (what??)

I've just brought in TAA, Long and Zaha who I'm not planning to keep. It will be interest to see if I gain 0.1 in GW TV if they rise in price twice.

You will get the rises as part of your free hit, but will lose the players at the end of the week when you get your original team back st what ever bakuevit is, and the FH rises will be gone unless you originally had the player anyway ... you can’t ‘keep’ the players you bought on the FH and you will have to make transfers in 36 to buy them at whatever price they are

Little example as people still won't understand this

      FH Chip

Activating your FH chip is basically like taking over a friend's team for the week. You can do whatever you want with it and price ranges and price drops will occur as they always do.

Come gw36, forget your 'friends team. It's gone. Any value you lost or gained on players is gone with the team you just fielded and you'll be back with your own original team (as if you had not made any transfers for one week, except you won't have 2 transfers).

Think this sums it up for anyone having difficulty understanding.

The only thing that is unclear is that if a player in your original team gained 0.1 while you were in your FH week, do you get that gain when you have your original team back?

yes you get that gain when back to original team

but you don't get that gain into your FH sell value, so if you have 102.6 of SV and activate FH, that SV will remain all week, (unless you pick a player that rises twice). after deadline when you get original team, SV can be higher or lower than that

Little bit late with my post so will put it here

So nervous and all those FH chip questions really makes me even more pissed
So please put this somewhere so I dont have to look those questions anymore:)

So when you click on FH...
...your current/old team is freezed and you get it again the GW after that FH GW
...all price moves on your current/old players count during that period
...after FH GW you have only 1 FT (as per usual)

...you can play with that FH team all week(until GW starts)
...and you have your current/old team Selling Value to spend
...if you transfer out Salah on FH you can only get his SV
...if you change your mind and want him back you have to pay current value (Purchaising Price)
...if you bring some player (lets say Sterling) while on FH and he rose by 0.2 you can sell him and gain that 0.1 profit
...but those changes WONT affect your money/SV/team value when your old team is back after that FH GW

Just to add to this I asked ISM these questions previously:

If I chose to make transfers as normal until next Friday, taking points hits as I go and then activate the FH on Saturday, will I benefit from any price rises gained up until Saturday morning (the point when the chip is activated?)

In other words, it is a better strategy to activate the chip late so that price changes are reflected in my line-up before activation.

As I understand it, once activated, my squad will not benefit from any rises gained from players brought in.

      They answered...

"There is no benefit to be gained, you squad, including bank balance goes back to how it was at he start of the gameweek."

Thanks Mark. I think the main point of confusion is the value of the current team. If I FH now, will my current team (not FH team) gain and lose value as normal, or are the selling prices frozen.

I assume that the player's prices (and selling price) will still rise and fall, even though they are not in our FH teams. Is that correct?

Yes, I believe that, for example, if you sell Willian now for another midfielder and he goes up while he's out of your squad, you will get Willian back at his new price and selling price.

So your squad as of 11.31 today will go on getting rises and falls regardless of whether you move them out and this will be reflected when you get them back.

I guess the only possible reason to wait for his potential rise tonight before selling for a FH player this week is if you gain SV (say you bought Willian at 7.1)

Yeah, my understanding is that they will still rise and fall and you'll collect all that when you get your 'real' team back.

Your 'real' team basically goes on a different track during your FH week and it comes back to you the next GW, with all the normal rises/falls it would have had if you hadn't used your FH

Confirmed by ISM now - "Yes, your squad at 11:31 is happily falling / rising in value, the free hit signings have no impact"

So our squads will revert to how it was at 11.31 today. All rise and falls experienced by players in that squad will be reflected when players return. We benefit from rises but also can't avoid falls.

Thanks Mark. That last line says it all as far as I'm concerned. Being unable to avoid the falls to your current squad (once FH is activated) is the scary part. Although some can perhaps be foreseen.

Also, if you activate your FH straight away, buy a player that rises .2, you can sell the player for a .1 profit within your FH and temporarily get a higher team value to use as part of the FH. You could make 1.0 profit and sell for an extra .5 to use in the FH week temporarily, but of course you get your original team back and the transactions and resultant values are wiped clean.

It is just like getting a second team for a week (at the TV of your original team) and then reverting back to your original team

              It is scary!

But a lot less scary since we know we can just hit it now and not have to wait until the deadline, which could lead to forgetting and being charged with a huge hit 🙂

Cheers Geoff. This is what I assumed, but there were theories in the previous few pages, suggesting we should wait for some rises before activating the chip. Plus the wording from FPL is only an attempt to be clear, saying that price changes are 'reflected'. How hard is it for them to spend an extra minute revising sentences to make them clear? 😆

Yeah, I think the difficulty was with the 'bank balance' bit.

The wording made it seem like bank balance meant 'squad value + money in the bank' or something when it actually means the money you have in the bank that isn't invested in your squad

So you can play the market with a Free Hit chip active, but only for players you don’t want to go with in your Free Hit team, and only for your Feee Hit week.

He gets it I think. He's saying you can get players cheaper on FH if you buy them before they rise, but the players that are rising are not players we actually want on a FH!

          ...I think!

So I’ve made a bit of a blunder on FH here haven’t I? I had Kane, Lukaku and Willian all a rise away from gaining me SV and look like rising tonight.
I’ve sold them and activated FH. Even though it doesn’t affect me in the big picture (come 36 when I get team back) It affects me during this week, as if I’d have waited until they rose tonight, I’d have had an extra .3 to play around with on my FH this week. Is that right?

Yeah, but you have loads a money on FH anyway as only need to pick 11 (or 12). You'll be fine.

Ok cheers. What I can see happening is, those 3 rising tonight, then falling again by deadline. So by 36, I won’t have known any different. Just a bit annoying I didn’t check risers, just assumed blankers will drop like Stones. I guess if people are really low on TV. Playing and scraping those few potential.1s tonight, could really help.

But temporarily you should have kept them, gained a bit of profit to use, before selling them

If you have players that look like rising, hold them until they rise.

If you have players that look like falling sell them.

If you want to buy a player that look like rising, then buy before the rise.

It’s just like s normal week, except you get last weeks team back at whatever price it ends up being 🙂

            It is right.

But chances are it won't matter, since you can pretty well make the team you want as there aren't too many high priced players.

I'm not really struggling for budget and my TV isn't very good

Just adding to this discussion with what I have discovered after doing some separate research...

It seems that if you do a couple of transfers now, then play the free hit chip later this week, those initial players that you brought in will not be there when you go back to your 'non free hit' team next week.

The bigger issue, though, is that if you took a -4 or -8 and didn't play the Free Hit Chip whilst making those initial transfers, you still lose the points! I've done a bit of reading up about this and it seems like sloppy programming or an oversight (which may have been rectified now), but wanted to warn people.

So you cannot avoid your original team rising or falling.

You may as well activate FH as soon as possible and try to gain value on this new team (e.g. If Jesus goes up 0.2, you earn 0.1. You can sell him for a 0.1 profit to spend in that gameweek).

Indeed. Definitely worth playing the free hit chip as early as possible for the reasons you state, as well as to be ahead of any rises.

I expect a lot of strange price rises and drops this week!

Wait so it’s better to activate ur FH chip right before deadline right? But take as many hits throughout the week depending on the price rises?

Can someone clarify for me. If I use my 1 free Gameweek transfer to put a player in that will play twice in GW37. Then I the next day for example play my free hit and change all players To best suit GW35. When it resets after GW35 ends does the play I put in before using the free hit revert back too?

Just wondering if there is away to use that 1 free transfer with GW37 in mind before losing it to the free hit if I just used the free hit straight away?

How do price rises of actual team and FH teams work?

          1. Top Lad Dakes.
            • 7 Years
            6 years, 4 days ago

your actual team still gets price rises and falls like normal when you arent using it bc of the FH
when you activate FH your team players have the same price as your actual team, but if you sell them and want to bring them back you have to pay their current price, whether that is cheaper or more expensive (eg if you had salah at 10.0, sold and want him back and he is now 10.5, you pay 10.5)
once FH is over, your team is reverted back to normal and any price changes on those players are taken out of your TV, i believe

          On FH
If I sell my player and his price go up/down it will affect me anyway, right?
If a player that I get go up in price twice I wont get that 0.1 anyway, right?

So I can sell anyone on FH now as it make no diference to prices but wont get faller as tmrw he will simply be 0.1 cheaper.

Help please, which two of these players would you KEEP for GWs 36/37/38. They all have a double in 37.

                A. Hazard
                B. Son
                C. Vardy
                D. Lukaku

Son has the best fixtures, but probably the most likely to be rotated.

Mahrez, Vardy, Moses > Jesus, Mane, 4.6m def (-4).

                Will give me:

                Pope
                Klavan, Ogbonna, Long (Possible 4.6def)
                Mane, Salah, Sterling, Walcott, Westwood

Seeing as this GW also going utterly down the drain, one can at least have some joy in looking at the gw35 FH team:

                Pickford
                Mustafi Kiko Long
                Salah(c) Mané Sterling Sané
                Firmino Auba Jesus

                (Elliot, Kenny, Haidara, King)

But knowing my luck, they'll all be benched....

I've been put off Kiko after he was subbed off at 58' this GW - he's been subbed off near the 60th minute twice before this season, and I don't want that to happen especially in a FH week

I hate to say this but I think I would now have more points if I didn’t follow FFS! 🙁 ...I’m sick of this game. I am in a league against others that don’t follow ffs they have Firmino (when I got rid), sterling (I got rid) , Zaha , Huddersfield defenders 🙁

Going into next week, I've got no FH and only 3 of my players will be playing.

                  Still have a WC.

Would now be the best time to use it? Or go -8 then use the WC for the next week?

Yes your original team gets affected by price rises and falls in the background and comes back for the next gameweek at the new value
