Yaya Toure returns to boost City’s Europa League hopes, as Sergio Aguero nets a rare away goal. Antonio Valencia is set for a spell on the sidelines, Jon Walters returns to the Stoke City front line, while Landon Donovan is already eyeing up a third loan spell at Everton:

Yaya Toure produced a stand-out performance for City upon his return from African Cup of Nations duties last night. The Ivorian – who signed off on league duties with a 14 point FPL haul against Liverpool back in Gameweek 20 – provided both assists in the 2-1 win at Porto and looks likely to see some Fantasy investment over the next few weeks. Toure had started every one of City’s league games prior to leaving for international duties and, with an average of 4.4 points per game, will be crucial to City’s chances of success over the remainder of the season- expect a Watchlist article sometime next week.

Sergio Aguero’s Fantasy owners will be hoping his late winner signalled a return to form. The Argentine- who hasn’t scored on the road for the past eight league games- was benched last night, as Roberto Mancini started with Mario Balotelli as a lone front man. While Edin Dzeko remained an unused sub, Aguero was sent on as a replacement for the Italian with twelve minutes remaining and slotted home from close range just six minutes later, after Toure’s clever pass.

Phil Jones, Nani and Tom Cleverley all returned to the United first XI in last night’s trip to Ajax. While the first two have missed the last three league games, Cleverley hasn’t featured since Gameweek 10 due to an ankle injury. The fixtures are extremely kind for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side from Gameweek 28 onwards and Cleverley, priced at 5.1 with a 2% ownership, could be a real cut-price differential if he can re-establish himself in the champions’ first XI.

As we mentioned in last night’s late article, Antonio Valencia is set for a spell on the sidelines, after picking up a hamstring injury in Amsterdam. The winger, on as a second half substitute, sustained the injury when setting up his side’s second goal in the 2-0 Europa League win. Ferguson spoke of his side’s injuries in the post-match press conference:

He has a hamstring injury unfortunately. It will be four weeks. It’s a blow to lose Valencia tonight, but bit by bit, we are getting stronger with Nani and Ashley Young coming back. Tom Cleverley has played a bit of football tonight and Phil Jones has played a full game which is good for us. Chris Smalling was on the bench but will play in the return match at Old Trafford next Thursday.

Fantasy owners of Jon Walters will have been pleased with Stoke’s lineup last night. The Irishman’s appeal as an out of position option has considerably lessened in recent weeks, with Tony Pulis affording the likes of Cameron Jerome, Kenwyne Jones and Ricardo Fuller a chance to partner Peter Crouch up front. Walters has been used as a winger instead but returned to the Potters’ front line alongside Crouch against Valencia, with Jermaine Pennant and Matt Etherington handed the roles on the flanks. With home games against Swansea and Norwich up next, investment in Stoke players looks likely but Walters, with a single goal in the last 13 gameweeks, seems to have lost his early-season form, with nearly 130,00 Fantasy managers transferring him out as a result.

Landon Donovan has admitted he is keen on a third loan spell at Everton. The US international – who has been instrumental in the Toffees recent five-match unbeaten run with 3 assists – plays his final game for David Moyes’ side in tomorrow’s FA Cup home clash with Blackpool before heading back to parent club LA Galaxy, but is already eyeing up a return to Merseyside next winter:

I would approach it the same way I have approach it each year. ‘One: Am I physically able to do it. Two: Does he (Moyes) want me to come back. Three: Do I feel like I can contribute and benefit the club? I’m not coming back if it is just for me to have an experience. I have too much respect for the club, manager and players to do that. The expectation is very clear if I come back and if I feel I can do that and they want me to come back then I would absolutely do it.

Liverpool have received an injury boost ahead of their FA Cup Fifth Round clash with Brighton. Maxi Rodriguez has recovered from the foot problem that has kept him sidelined for the past three weeks, while teenage full-backs Jon Flanagan and Jack Robinson are also in the frame for Sunday’s Anfield showdown, according to Kenny Dalglish.

Zoltan Gera is hopeful of a return to action before the end of the season. The Hungarian played just three games for West Brom before rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in Gameweek 13 but reckons there is a slim chance of returning for the Baggies before the current campaign is out.

Am I mad to be considering Silva > Yaya? at 7.5 Yaya seems a steal and I am getting sick of Silva assisting the assister. It would free up funds for me to upgrade Valencia > Mata/Nani.

I guess it is the form vs fixtures debate - no form mids that stand out (that I haven't got already). I could just do Val > cheapie strengthen my defence a bit. I will want Enrique back at some stage.

That's a good point. As much as Silva controls matches they way he plays he mostly assists the assister which is no good to us in FPL. I'm getting rid from GW28 onwards.

U do realise Silva has the second most assists in prem only behind Adebayor. And Ade only does coz of a freak game last week. don't think can complain about his assisting! Silva will always be more consistent than Yaya but Yaya will occasionally have one explosive game. I do hope though that everyone follows ur lead because the less people having silva the better.

That does seem to suggest I may be mad, I tend to look at it in a combo sense. E.g. will yaya + Mata outscore Silva + val replacement.
I think the Val > ? will be the most asked to the point of boredom....

He may assist the assister but he has 140 points in FPL and a good run of games. But you may have something there, we all have a close variation of that team and a little difference may boost your position ...until everyone else does it.

imo yes. Yaya is a fantastic player but not so much in FPL terms, look at his history, there's a reason why he's so much cheaper. Yaya back now should help Silva get more points

Have to say, I'm very excited by this. Picture Svennis at the WC - all flustered and caught up in the thrill...

BATE = Borisov Automotive and Tractor Electric! That's what you call a team founded in 1973 (!). Proud to have started Hleb and Kezman on their way to stardom.

Just like Uefa Europa League format, but with fpl scores. So you have your group stages in which you have h2h with your opponent based on the score from fpl. Two teams from each group qualify for the next round, they are joined by the 3rd placed team in each group in UCL. So on , so forth.

Btw 4pts are awarded to the team playing at home.

Have a look at the schedule, you will get a basic gist of things.

So what do you reckon spurs fans, on the likelihood of Eden Hazard coming to Tottenham?

I recently read at goal.com that chelsea had pulled out of the race for him, and Spurs were the most likely destination. http://www.goal.com/en/news/596/exclusive/2012/02/17/2911064/chelsea-pull-out-of-race-to-sign-eden-hazard-as-tottenham

Frankly I am pretty surprised that Tottenham are so keen on an attacking mid/winger, as most of those slots seem full in the team. Infact, I was thinking that they would make a big splash for a striker.if the most talented youngster does indeed come to this unexpected part of London, I am guessing that Lennon will give way.

What do you guys make of it? Is it rubbish or is this the real deal???

ENR had two cups literally. One is based on the uefa cl, the other on the europa league. Both take in scores from your fpl. So for the uefa cl, we have 6 h2h matches with our opponents. After 6gws the top 2 qualify for the knockout stages.

Read the basic cup documentation which can be found here. Btw entries are closed.

I would also like to invite Impressive tackle to do a short right up on the groups if thats possible. 😆

The golden handshake has worked wonders for you, Impressive Tackle 😉

Mr William Shakespeare has recommended you as a more than impressive writer. Would you be willing to take on our prestigious writer spot for the Europa League Cup? 😀

Anyone else goin for moses? i'm lookin for a replacement for valencia and got just 8.3.. so thinkin of downgradin to him.. will then rotate him with mclean..
AVL SWA nor WBA QPR STO(rotation) look far too temptin.. will leave me with 3.5 odd in the bank for future moves..

    Pretty ignorant question:

Why aren't Liverpool or Everton playing this week? Cup? Is there a chance one of them gets knocked out and the game will still happen?

Are people starting Jose Enrique in the off chance they have a game?

    Thanks all!
