The World Cup takes a break on Friday for the first time in over a fortnight, with the round of 16 commencing on Saturday afternoon.

The lull in action is a welcome respite for Fantasy managers as serious thought can be given to what is effectively a compulsory wildcard, with both McDonald’s FIFA and Fantasy iTeam offering unlimited transfers between the culmination of the group stage and the start of the knockout rounds.

Although the round of 16 fixtures will be the prime concern, Fantasy managers ought to take the quarter-finals into consideration given that only three free transfers are permitted (any more will cost points/credits) before they begin.

READ NEXT: The complete guide to set-pieces and penalties for World Cup Fantasy knockout stages

Up to four players can be selected from one country in both Fantasy games at the last 16 stage, though some Fantasy bosses may wish to spread their selections across several nations given the restrictions on transfers before the quarter-finals begin.

Fantasy managers will have already noticed the price rises – and drops – in both our featured World Cup games, though in McDonald’s FIFA at least the allotted budget increases from £100m to £105m for these knockout rounds.

Players such as Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.1m), Harry Kane (£11.1m), Diego Costa (£9.1m), Christian Eriksen (£9.1m), Philippe Coutinho (£9.1m), Denis Cheryshev (£5.7m), Andreas Granqvist (£5.1m), Diego Godin (£5.6m) and Fernando Muslera (£5.6m) have all increased in price in McDonald’s FIFA, though no player has risen more than £0.2m.

Lionel Messi (£11.9m), Olivier Giroud (£8.9m), Willian (£8.4m), Dele Alli (£8.9m), Nicolas Otamendi (£5.9m) and Kyle Walker (£5.9m) are among the big names who have suffered a price drop, meanwhile.

Members can read on for this round-up of the Opta data from the group stages. The data itself is available to members as part of their yearly subscription and obtainable immediately after the end of each World Cup match.

The price can't increase by more than that anyway. Additionally those above certain price can't rise more than €0.1m

My plan is simply to out eggs in baskets all my way to the final. My team will surround those clubs that will win the next round, and so on.

    AKA:

    Ignoring FRA vs ARG
    Ignoring URU vs POR
    BRA x 2
    BEL x 2 (+ INUI for giggles)
    SPA x 2
    CRO x 2
    SWI x 2
    ENG x 4
    = 15

Simple as that. Max Captain R16 and Bench Boost QF's.

England play Colombia, thats 2-0 clean sheet, goals from Kane and Lingard potentially (or assists) Points for pickford and Trippier and then Switzerland or Sweden next round. So sorted for next XI.

Switzerland will beat Sweden, so there is that 2 player shout.

Not saying they aren't. You've a lot of faith in the England defence which is admirable. Many just big them up then tear them down when something goes wrong. Southgate is a good manager. But it's a lottery in the knockouts, defenders without attacking intent aren't investable I think. I expect England to go through but it's not like your doubling on a Chelsea defence in it's prime to go for get another cleansheet. I hope he brings in Cahill for Walker and ye get the cleansheet.

I know, England should win in 90 mins. But have to be sccoreless on 90 for your cleansheet. Trippier a very good pick, attack minded good assist potential and relatively cheap. Pickford a very good keeper. I wouldn't give a bookie money for an England cleansheet with Walker at the back. With Cahill in for him I might be tempted.

206 pts, 118 overall. Have used bench boost and wild card though

This round was a nightmare until today - ronaldo captain first day, so heart in mouth when he got booked. Then plenty of german coverage and swiss defence. Khazri has saved me

    Kane / Costa / Hazard

    Coutinho / Modric / Isco

    Trippier / Miranda / Lovren / R.Rodrigues

    De Gea

    Max Captain. That'll do.

Just wandering peoples thoughts on when is best time to use max captain? Should I use it in round of 16 when there are more matches and potential high scoring captains? When are you all using yours?

Im on that plan. Less teams play, harder matches get, less goals go in...etc.

I’m thinking quarters cos there’s still a few Capt choices in the last 16

My theory is I have lots of different options in round of 16

        Costa vs Russia
        Lukaku vs Japan
        Kane vs Columbia
        Coutinho vs Mexico.

Or I could just keep twisting and gamble on the last day for Kane to come good.

How do automatic substitutions work in this game? I have 3 players on the bench that have played and 3 on field that didn't play and no automatic subs happened?

    1. 420king

They don't happen if you changed your captain during the week.

    2. Norman Conquest

if you changed any player manually your auto subs wont come on

I thought manual changes only involved subs and not captain changes oops. Only scored 16 points this week! To be fair I would have only 27 if it was automatic subs so not a great week either way

              Check the predicted line-up here:
              http://www.futbolfantasy.com/world-cup/equipos/belgica

It's your decision at the end of the day. I can't tell you for certain that Boyata won't play because we're not dealing with a leaked line-up here (the main first choice defenders may be saved for Brazil) - we're dealing with a prediction.

Epic Fail or 420 KING you might know....

Do we get points all the way to 120 mins played? or do they stop scoring at 90mins because that might make a HUGE difference to my decision.

The Argentina vs France, Uruguay vs Portugal could easily go to 120 leading to longer for defenders to lose their clean sheets and attackers having more time to score.

    Thoughts?
