The transfer window in between the round of 16 ending and the quarter-finals commencing looked likely to pose the most problems to Fantasy managers and the early exits of Argentina, Portugal and Spain have only added to our woes.

Those with wildcards still to burn are in an enviable position, but the rest of those playing the McDonald’s FIFA World Cup game will have to make do with three permitted transfers if they are to avoid points hits.

Fantasy bosses competing in the Fantasy iTeam game will also have to wheel and deal shrewdly with their three allotted transfers, although an additional fourth transfer can, of course, be bought with credits.

With premium forwards Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo no longer an option, along with the likes of Isco, Diego Costa and David Silva, Fantasy managers may suddenly have a sizeable transfer fund at their disposal.

But where should the money be reinvested? Our team-by-team analysis of Opta’s World Cup data, which is updated and available to Fantasy Football Scout members immediately after the end of each match, gives us strong clues as to which players’ underlying statistics could translate into Fantasy points and which assets are best avoided.

World Cup Data

We’re delighted to offer World Cup data as an early addition to our regular season offering to help those playing Fantasy games over the summer.

We’ve secured Opta data, not only for the tournament itself, which begins on June 14 but also from the Qualifying Rounds for Europe and South America and for international friendlies involving the participating nations. This includes all the matches played right up to the tournament kick-off.

Just to stress, this World Cup offering comes packaged with the regular Fantasy Football Scout membership.

Check out this new trailer previewing the World Cup content below…

Got 5 of my players already out of the tournament, but for now not planning to make more than the 3 free transfers, instead will wait and try to fix it for the semis having 5 free then. Anyone else doing the same?

I think that's the best bet. Too unpredictable to waste points

Finals or semis, least match days so least opportunities to change captain

actually is the same ... 2days in each so 2 captains max.

Those matches will be tougher to call though, you can expect returns from Kane and Neymar this week

i only have 3 players out, so using that 3 FTs. Saving WC for the semis should do fine.

    Mbappe* / Hazard / Kane

    Modric / Coutinho / Lingard* / Cheryshev*/ Bentancur

    Granq / Tripp / Miranda / Meunier / Lovren

    Subasic / Olsen

I got 1.1m ITB, should I upgrade Mbappe to Grizzman? *** are new additions

    Any help, thoughts please?

    Currently got;

    Courtois / Olsen
    Godin / Granqvist / Lovren / Alderweireld/ Carvajal(out)
    Coutinho/ Modric/ Claesson / C.Sanchez/Isco (last 2 out)
    Kane / Lukaku/Jesus

    Thinking Jesus out, Neymar in.
Then sell Isco and Carvajal, and replace with either
    A) Trippier/ Vrsaljko and Cheryshev/
    Bentancur
    B) Pavard and Golovin.

    What do you think?

Don’t know if I’m now overthinking it all as I chase down mini-league leader....

Instead of the above toying with an additional transfer (so - 4 points) and take out Lukaku as well, with Mbappe, Neymar, Lingard and Maguire coming in.

What do people think? Worth the risk??

I think taking a hit in this game is a really bad idea.

        Not many games to go.
Points are few and far between.
        It's very unpredictable.

That being said - Those look some very tempting transfers to me.

If it was me I'd be drafting Trippier, Mbappe and Willian for the original 3, if you afford it. If you want to take a risk and try and catch up, I could see it working out but I'm not sure.
