Introduction to the Article Type

With so many RMTs on site, we’re going to start collecting them in these RMT Community Articles.

In our fourth article of the series, Niemi has given us his team, and some explanations of his choices. Feel free to comment on his team.

This is also a place for you to post your team; please respond to a few others while you’re at it!

Mods have been alerted and will spend some time on these pages responding.

Let’s try to keep the main article pages free from RMTs!

Niemi’s RMT

Patricio – Hamer
Mendy – Robertson – Shaw – Wan-Bissaka – Bednarek
Salah – Mane – Mahrez – Richarlison – Jota
Aguero – Mitrovic – Kamara

Goalkeepers

Patricio – 4.5 – I really like Patricio as a GK, I think he’s genuine quality. At 4.5 in a team that have strengthened a lot during the summer I think he could be one of the great bargains this season. It’s a slight risk going with a GK who’s new to the league in a promoted team, but it’s a risk that could easily pay off. I’m going to play him every week.

Hamer – 4.0 – It seems like Hamer have a shot of starting some games for Huddersfield, so he’s my pick of the 4.0s

Defenders

Robertson – 6.0 – Impressive end to last season, very attacking, decent opening fixtures and no World Cup. An easy and sensible pick in my eyes.

Mendy – 6.0 – I was initially lukewarm to Mendy as a pick, but he looks likely to start the first few games and Pep seems confident he’ll become a key player in the Manchester City side this season. With the amazing run of fixtures between gameweek 2 and 7 I’m taking the risk.

Shaw – 5.0 – Another defender I wasn’t convinced about earlier in the preseason. Although he’s now found his way into my team, I’m not totally convinced on how long he’ll remind a starter. Probably the player in my team I’m least convinced about.

Wan-Bissaka – 4.0 – Has made the right back spot his own during preseason, and is an obvious pick with Palace’s nice opening fixtures. I’ve seen Crystal Palace linked to a few right backs though, so I’m monitoring their movements on the transfer market the final days.

Bednarek – 4.0 – Emerged late last season as a budget defender and kept his price for this season. Seems to be prefered alongside Vestergaard and de Hoedt in the back three, but is facing competition from Stephens. A more nailed option is Peltier from Cardiff, but I feel Bednarek has a higher ceiling hence why I’m going with him currently. Swapping Shaw and Bednarek with 2×4.5 is something I’m weighting up.

Midfielders

Salah – 13.0 – Doesn’t really need an explanation. Been in my team since the game opened, and not going anywhere. Captaincy option every week.

Mane – 9.5 – I’ve had Eriksen in this spot for most parts of the pre-season, but Tottenham is a big worry at the moment with many players yet to return from the WC break, squad players injured, and transfer business yet to happen. Mane is for me the obvious replacement showing decent form in pre-season, as well as kind fixtures at the start and potentially penalties.

Mahrez – 9.0 – Been in and out of my team, but after the game against Chelsea I feel fairly settled with him. Looked dangerous and could easily had returns on another day. Bernardo Silva has crossed my mind, but despite Pep’s quotes I’m not convinced he’s a better pick for the start of the season.

Richarlison – 6.5 – An amazing pick at the start of last season, before totally disappearing. Had great underlying stats, and he’s a player I personally like. Everton’s pre-season form is a worry, but the potential is definitely there at 6.5.

Jota – 6.5 – Been in my team for most of the season. A key attacking player in an interesting Wolves side, and could even be used up front in some games. I’m well aware there’s a good bunch of players that do well in Championship but can’t reproduce those performances in the Premier League, but I have a feeling Jota won’t be one of them. Maddison at Leicester is also a player I’m closely monitoring and I can’t rule out him finding his way into my team at the expense of Jota or Richarlison.

Forwards

Aguero – 11.0 – A player that always finds his way into my team, who I love captaining. This season is no different; he’s been in my team the whole time and the game against Chelsea just made me more confident.

Mitrovic – 6.5 – A player that I like a lot personally. I hoped he would come in at 6.0, but I still think he could be decent value at 6.5. I fully expect him to be Fulham’s penalty taker this season, which is a big advantage.

Kamara – 4.5 – Decided early I wanted to go with a third forward at 4.5, and Kamara seems to be the pick of the bunch. I don’t expect him to be a regular starter, but he’ll probably get some minutes here and there.

Conclusion

I feel fairly confident in my team right now, but a few minor changes are possible. The defence is slightly risky but otherwise I feel my team is pretty safe with decent alternatives to my midfielders and forwards available at the same price point.

What are your thoughts on my team? Have I missed out on any obvious picks, or gone with players that I shouldn’t?

Remember, post your RMTs below in this article. There will be another new RMT Community Article tomorrow.

Not a strong enough bench to warrant Shaw + City rotation risk.

Would you be open to change keepers to 2x 4.5 and use the extra 0.5m to move Shaw to a 5.5?

I guess you are keen to have a premium keeper though 🙂

Kevin Keegan school of management, finally getting there. Just waiting on final transfers and teams news. Early wildcard planned once the world cup players are back up and running.

    Cedric - Daniels - Jagielka

All out attack has served me well for many seasons. It's all out cheap defenders based on fixture runs, coupled with the right captain choice to bring in the big bucks.

Saying that last season was the first time premium defenders cost me the friends league victory!

    Patricio. Hamer.
    VVD. Mendy. Shaw. (Cedric. WB)
    Salah. KDB. Richo. Neves. (Stephens)
    Kun. Firmino. Mitrovic.

Word is that KDB plays....if not ....quite happy with Stephens off the bench.

Does anyone save a bit of cash in the first couple of GWs? For example, a couple of mil to easily up BSilva to Sane/Mane/Ericksen etc?

    Also, same subject:

    b) Sigurdsson

    Richarlison - Mkhitaryan - Lucas Moura - Mané (C)
Firmino - Agüero (VC) - Aubameyang
    Fabianski - Boly - Wan-Bissaka -Stephens

I can't see Salah perform like last year, so I believe he may be a bit overpriced. Also, he ended the last season with injury, and then a not very impressive WC.

Salah was very consistent last year, but he scored almost every game. I believe it is unlikely that he will explode the first games. My feeling is that Mane/Firmino may take as much points as Salah. He will be heavily guarded by the opposing teams.

    current state of team

    McCarthy - Fabianski
    Daniels, Cedric, PvA, Janmaat, Peltier
    Milvojovovoic, Cairney, D.SIlva, Salah, Mkithiratyan
    Aguero, Firmino, Zaha

I am wondering why on earth I have Janmaat in there at £5m.
Thinking of Zaha out for King.
    Lots of fiddling needed?

Mate, I like this. Your mid is bold. Defence could be better right, but then you mess up the strong front 8. You could go with someone instead of Janmaat but you gota be odd to be number 1..

it's amazing how much cash you free up by whacking in a load of 4.5 defenders.... and pound for pound that money usually seems to return better in MF/FWD

I think I might drop Janmaat...

i would say it's a good idea to be prepared to play early WC if needed, but not such a good idea to actually stack up a team with a rubbish bench with early WC as a firm plan.

i quite like the midfield .

    4. Stepaynter86
      • 12 Years
      7 years, 4 months ago

Make room for City in mid or fwd. I suggest downgrading Sanchez or Eriksen maybe both. B.Silva is a value in into the City Mid and should be a safe bet early on, keep an eye on rotation though. I would recommend Aguero if you can.

      Sanchez - B.Silva (for funds)
Eriksen - Mane (if you want to double up on Lpool attack not essential)
      Firmino - Aguero
      Zaha - Arnie (preference)

Keeps double pool attack if that's what you're planning on and gets you into City.

Alternatively a simple swap and still a bit of a punt on a decent player is downgrade Sanchez to Ozil and Upgrade Firmino to Aguero.

I think Arsenal will be good for goals this year and Ozil had good pedigree in FPL and I am watching him to see if he comes good.

I like it. Personally think Hughes is the best 5.0 mid, but that's just me. Having 3 Palace defenders seems like enormous overkill though. Could argue Gross has bad fixtures, but he's an Eriksen-lite set-and-forget kinda guy imo.

If you want AWB, just pairing him with one other Palace def would be my instinct. Basically find your preferred alternative at the two other price points, e.g. if there's a 5.0 guy you like who's not a Palace player get him and sack off Sakho or 5.5 sack off PVA. I love PVA, but can't justify him when Palace have the best 4.5 (Tomkins) and 4.0 options, but aren't traditionally that great defensively.

And Shaw. I think if I knew for sure he was starting I'd save some money on big Dave.

Doubt KDB will start, for 10.0 I would want them to start and score 4+ goals!
Cedric I dont think has played preseason... i'd find another 4.5
      Like Mitro pick

Yep...Cedric on bench first week....will leave KDB and if he doesn’t play Stephens comes in. Saves a transfer as pretty sure KDB will be back GW2.

Sound reasoning and saves a transfer. I like it.

    RMT.

Been tinkering and taken some advice on board.

    G2G?

    Alisson

    Mendy - Robertson - PVA

    Salah (C) - B.Silva - Eriksen - Milivojevic

    King - Aguero - Jimenez

    Bench: Boruc - Peltier - Wan-B - Neves

    O.5 ITB

Tempted to go Aguero to Auba around GW3, or a bit riskier and down grade Eriksen to change Aguero to Kane if he comes out swinging.

Good team. Only doubt I have is Jimenez. Good luck

Jimenez is my thinking out of the box player, I was tempted to bench him and watch and have Neves play GW1, but a mate of mine who is Wolves thinks Jimenez should fair well, also had some advice earlier on here to give him a start over Neves. Although I hear Neves could be stepping up to fill Douglas' boots on set pieces. Might just toss a coin because otherwise I am happy.

I prefer A. Maybe Patricio to start with and change to Ryan later

          A.
But Sanchez to Mane/Eriksen and Jota to B.Silva

I think you want to be looking at 5.0 - 5.5 for a set and forget Keeper. 4.5 are decent to pair up and rotate (I did this last season and it was a ball ache as there were a few occasions I got the call wrong and it can be frustrating. I'm going set and forget this year with a 5.5 then a 4.0 to bench warm.

For this go A again and downgrade Sanchez to upgrade Ryan. Plenty of decent options for a mil difference in mids. Eriksen could be a good choice if you go Alisson as GK
