Is there a better differential than Sterling atm? The plan was to do Sanchez > KDB and upgrade my defence. I'm now really tempted to switch to Sterling (0.5itb) and put the armband on him. Thoughts?

He is far less a risk now that Sane seems to be out of favour with Pep.

I agree but couldn't you say the same about Aguero? I feel like he's at just as much risk but people are happy to captain him.

Every City player is a rotation risk, they have a deep squad but the evidence is there to suggest Sterling is one of Pep's key men.

Barely left the team last season apart from when injured, was straight back in when fit (and hauled) had a weeks training and started this week and was their best player, everyone assumed he was a rotation risk last year, it never happened, Mahrez was signed, they played together, he's key and will score a lot of points in the next seven.

I'll be captaining Salah until he dips in form, Sterling is 2.5% owned, feel that will be enough without the C.

It's tempting v HUD. But no shame in loading up on City players right now unless it ties your hands for later - which this might.

Tbh, I think you're chasing pennies. Arsenal fixtures turn dramatically for the better after Chelsea and I expect this is a time to hold firm in the hope of better returns after that.

It's hard to judge against City, but I've got him down as one to watch. He got in a couple of dangerous positions and I think he will score a respectable amount of goals in an Emery team... however you have to balance this with his injury risk

The rotation fears vs the potential points is agony. With Vardy and Haz you’re guaranteed starts and penalties but it’s very hard to support taking out Kun before Huddersfield at home.

im happy to just stick with the Mendy/Walker double up if Pep looks like playing wing backs.

Sterling/KDB would be the only ones I would consider, unless either of the forwards got injured.

After gameweek 1, I have made changes to my squad to reflect reality. The follow formation will for sure put me in the top 1% of all FPL players!

Joe Hart (alternate with other 4.5m GK depending on who has easier game)

    Mendy-Shaw-Robertson-Alonso

    Richarlison-Sterling-Salah (C)-Mane-Benardo Silva

Arnautovic (alternate with Zaha based on who has easier game)

I think Leicester will score against Wolves, but Doherty holds an assist threat. Leicester looked very good against Utd and on another day they could have scored more goals. I think Wolves have made some shrewd signings, but looked susceptible at defending set pieces against Everton. I can foresee a Maddison assist and Maguire slab heading it in the back of the net. I would probably go for Hughes, but don't see either scoring many points (however I am the master of jinxing players I.e I had a flurry of abusive texts because I told my mate not to sign Kante, pogba and Nevez)

Would be surprising if Leicester didn't score. I think for @PIA06RC it depends on if Doherty is as likely to return attacking points as Hughes.

Remember when the scout became a thing on the official site and everyone was worried about spoon-feeding? How much do people think the edges have been affected? Considering this game is so volatile, I still think the room for edge is surprisingly big over a season. We all have access to the same stats but results differ massively. No one talks about how you are as an individual being more important.

The Scout on the official site recommends so many different players that readers probably get thoroughly confused.

Scout Picks or Team of the Week are only for a single game-week, so they doesn't really help longer-term planning.

The FFS Watchlist often only lists one player per position from the same club, but other players at different price-points might be more appropriate for squads with more or less cash available for that position.

The 'spoon-fed sheep' are unlikely to be able to match the best of those who can search out additional information and think for themselves unless they are extremely lucky.

People will knee jerk and points chase no matter how much "spoon feeding" there. Its those pointless hits and sideways moves that have people sliding gradually down the ranking during the season.

Yep. It's annoying because on one hand I want people to get better because some of the thought processes are so absurd but at the same time, the more simple mistakes people make, the higher I'm likely to finish.

Didn’t want it, still had a great week and a good structure, and thought a week or two of watching them would be smart to nail the right picks long term. I wouldn’t want to be someone with Mahrez right now, for example.

Fair point. I'd had Kun in my side all summer. Didn't move him out once. And after Bilva and Mendy's performances in the shiled, coupled with Pep's comments, I couldn't resist. Glad I didn't! Citeh have great fixtures until GW7. Get on board mate

Hello everyone - new pod is out 🙂

    http://whogottheassist.com/pod-43-causes-for-optimism/

It’s just after Gameweek 1 and we pick over the wreckage of the opening weekend through the lens of optimism, looking at a few picks we and maybe a few of you made and why we should look on the bright side. We also look at a few new joiners to the Premier League since the last pod on deadline day before delving into our features section (featuring formerly-of-this-parish Market Forces, Zombies and All England) and taking some questions.

    Cheers!

That's not helpful. FPL is a really hard game to plat catch up. It's GW2 there's no need to go off piste. The idea of the game is to get as many points as possible and that means captaining the player that you think will get the most amount of points.

Later in the season you may need to pick differentials to catch leaders of mini leagues bit at this stage just be sensible

When i say sensible I would follow the masses. That should ensure you dont drop behind due to captain picks. Then you just have to hope the research you've done do the rest of the team pays off

If you're really thinking Sanchez is a bust I can see the mileage in that change: depends how fearful you are really of City dismantling Huddersfield... tbf I do have 3 so I'd maybe be considering it

I picked him as a placeholder for KDB and he came back with points. Don't think it was the worst shout.

Seems totally nonsensical to pick him for GW1 if considering taking him out now, but each to their own!

I picked him with the express purpose of taking him out as soon as KDB was back, so doesn't seem nonsensical to me. But cheers.

My fear is that KDB has Huddersfield, an equally easy game, and Sanchez isn't playing number 9 as we expected him to.

He can still score a hattrick on any given day, KDB can't

True. But he's playing in a team with less goals in it and will have a lower overall points score than KDB. I'm definitely gonna switch them at some point, it's just a matter of when.

    Would you do:

Sanchez and David Luiz to KDB and Mendy for a -4? Won't be able to afford it if Mendy increases in price ...

Any thoughts on the performance of King vs. Wilson?

    Didn't watch the Bournemouth game.

Wilson was far more involved. Doesn't really tell us much though. I reckon Wilson only took the pen because he won it.

      Kanté.

At the moment neither because- 1)they have only played 1 game so far so wouldn't commit to either long term and 2)they are primarily defensive players

Just shaw the Watford game and the Wolves game and choosing Hughes over Neves was a hugh mistake Hughes literally did nothing so
Hughes -> Neves ( for free ) no brainer? Or does Kanté also appeal?

    1. Kragbaek
      • 12 Years

I think they'll score the same amount of points. Neves a goal or two more, but Kanté more clean sheets.

Hard choice but I think I like Neves more in points potential

True but Hughes was worthless and I'm playing with 5 midfielders which might be a mistake but for now it's the most easy solution

    Ederson
    Azpilicueta Robertson Daniels
    Salah Sane Richarlison Jota
    Aguero Arnautovic Zaha

    Boruc Wan-Bissaka Maitland-Niles Tomkins

    a) Sane to Mane
    b) Azpilicueta to Mendy

    What would you prioritize?

I’d actually forgotten about my set and forget GK Ederson. Yeah I see how that would mean incurring a hit. Could do Azpi to Mendy and then Sane to Mane but as I’ve said it does feel rather sideways

I wouldn’t want to lose City coverage but wouldn’t mind downgrading Azpi to Mendy for a hit if I’ll use the FT to go Mane for Sane, though it does feel a bit sideways.

Learn from last year; buy a city mid and stick to them, don't chase manes points
