Our panel of Fantasy Premier League managers are back to answer more questions, this time ahead of Gameweek 3.

We may have one Gameweek 2 match left to play, with Crystal Palace hosting Liverpool in Monday Night Football, but there are still plenty of talking points.

Not least that of how much money to spend in defence, how best to cover an unpredictable Manchester City attack and the upcoming good fixtures Arsenal are about to enjoy.

Once again, we had an overwhelming response to our request for questions. Unfortunately, we can only answer a handful each week but keep your queries coming in for the rest of the season.

Here’s a reminder of who is on the panel for your Gameweek 3 Question Time:

Lee from FPL Family – One half of the popular married couple who play FPL together and run a YouTube channel.

Simon March – Winner of FPL in 2014/15.

Ben Crabtree – Winner of FPL in 2016/17.

QUESTION ONE – SIMON MARCH

Should we be giving up on forwards and putting that extra cash into having at least four premium wing-backs? I’m thinking of getting Robertson and Alonso to partner Mendy who I already own.

Simon: “After two weeks of watching the likes of Mendy, Robertson and Alonso marauding forward, getting goals and assists while also chipping in with the odd clean sheet, it’s pretty tempting to go big at the back.

“It’s hard to argue that, right now, 6-6.5m spent on a defender doesn’t yield better value than the same amount spent on a forward.

“However, one challenge is that while you can get decent value from a budget defender, you can currently get almost no value from a budget forward.

“If it takes a 4.5m forward to afford an additional 6m+ defender, that’s a big collective outlay on what is, effectively, one active player.

“It might improve your first eleven but it could also substantially reduce your squad’s strength in depth, increasing your exposure to rotation and reducing your ability to adapt to changes in fixtures and form.

“You could go without a premium forward but, as Aguero demonstrated on Sunday that this, in itself, can be a huge risk.

“A premium defence might be a viable strategy, but it has its trade-offs to take into account.

“Also, it only takes a week for things to change in FPL so I’d be wary of writing-off forwards this early in the season.”

QUESTION TWO – BEN CRABTREE

Given their run of fixtures I currently have three Man City attackers (Bernardo Silva, Sterling and Aguero) – is this too much given possible rotation and the cost of the investment overall?

Ben: “I see it as a necessity to have three Man City players so that if they turn it on, as it looks like they will often, you maximise your chance for a share of the points.

“It looks like the build-up to Pep Guardiola’s team sheet is destined to cause palpitations but the stress can be reduced with maximum coverage.

“Aguero, Sterling and Bernardo Silva is a lot of money and the value of the outstanding Mendy, probably one of the more secure starters, means you should prioritise him pretty much over all other transfers.

“Aguero has to stay in your squad. Sterling looks the most sensible to remove given his omission against Huddersfield and the extra expense.

“However, he will come back in the team at some point and does have the potential to be a great explosive differential compared to Bernardo Silva who looks more susceptible to small scores in big wins.

“The safe move is probably Sterling to Hazard and get Mendy as your third City player. The ‘in it to win it’ move would be keep Sterling and change Bernardo Silva to Mkhitaryan.

“Rotation is a huge problem for us and owning great players that are certain starters is ideal. One or two rotation risks is okay, but many more and every week you leave yourself open to a disaster week.

“I don’t like the idea of a strong squad of 15 to cover many risky players due to too much money on the bench. £4.5m defenders can come to the rescue with potentially 6 points entering the fray.

“Throw in an element of attacking capability and the ceiling points potential is higher than most 5.5m mids.”

QUESTION THREE – LEE FROM FPL FAMILY

Who are the best Arsenal players to fit into your side with their upcoming fixtures so good? It’s tricky with lots of other in-form options in the early Gameweeks. For me, the only spots that could be a straight swap are Pickford (for Cech/Leno) and Aguero (for Auba/Laca), as I don’t feel like ditching any of Mendy, Robertson, Alonso, Salah, Mane, Bernardo, Richarlison or Zaha. What would you do?

Lee: “I was not at all convinced by Arsenal defensively against either Man City or Chelsea. Emery is asking them to play out from the back and they just don’t have the personnel to do it right now – Cech in particular.

“In attack though, Aubameyang is class. He hasn’t shown it yet – but he will.

“If like many though, getting him in means losing Aguero, I would be sticking with the in-form City man.

“The one player who does look good for Arsenal so far is Henrikh Mkhitaryan. If you can fit him in among those other big names, get him in.

“Otherwise, keep a watching brief and potentially be prepared to switch out the more expensive Mané or Bernardo Silva if the Arsenal man shows some serious form.

        Lose Salah for Mane.

Lose Eriksen for a 5 mil mid (probs Hughes).

For both--- losing Zaha for Aguero.

Hi Joe – I know you guys are busy but I have asked a question about being able to download the scout cast & new video’s but not yet had a reply – I’m giving you guys a benefit of the doubt.

Could you please confirm if a download option will be made available – not all have YouTube premium which allows this function.

This was a request at the end of the season which you said you would look into.

    Thanks in advance.

Ps – any other mods can you pass this msg onto Joe/mark

Last Man Standing Update (3550 teams)

    Current safety score = 28
    Top score = 96
    LMS average = 55.73

Do we know why Peltier didn't play at the weekend?

Rumors today that Joel Ward could be leaving Palace on loan, possibly to West Brom...which would further nail Wan Bissaka, which for me promotes him to a decent rotating third defender, so Peltier can sit sit on the bench, but it would be good to know if he is still in the team.

      From what I read :
4 at the back - No Peltier
5 at the back - Peltier on RWB
      so just a tactical drop

      1. HamezMace
        • 11 Years
        7 years, 3 months ago

        I see.
I guess 5 at the back is more likely for away games, and games they expect to be more on the back foot...which I suppose means Peltier will play more often than not...but probably in games when they're more likely to concede!

      • 10 Years

AWB should be your rotating third defender anyway. Forget he's 4.1, he's nailed in a Palace team, he should be 4.5 minimum.

This year AWB gives us more flexibility.. that's why you have such quality in your 4th and 5th Mid. The 5th mid has higher quality than the 3rd striker on our teams over the last decade... IMO.

The only niggle for me is Hamer could find himself dropped this week. I will wait on any news. Thanks Mingles

Agree, Hamer being dropped is only a matter of time, hopefully Lossl still won't fit next game.

I'd recommend Ings as well. Could easily have had a brace and has 3 nice fixtures coming up

    Took first hit last night.
Was on the verge of taking another hit to get Fraser in for McDonald.
    How does it look?

    Patricio
    Robbo, Mendy, AWB
    Salah, Mane, Bilva, Richarlison
    Aguero, Laca, Kamara
    (Norris, McDonald, Peltier, Bednarek).

Kamara in the starting 11 is a bit of an eye-sore with a weak bench. I can only see Laca to allow upgrades mate?

Enough ITB to upgrade McDonald to Fraser but I'll be monitoring Laca minute for next 2gws and decide.

what are odds that Fraser scores 4 more than Kamara in one week or two? That's what I look at with hits.

I would get Fraser and bench Kamara, who is not going to score, like ever.

Didn’t you guys selling Erikksen get him due to his consistency. Ie end of season he will be top 5 in midfielder points.

    Yet now you’re offloading. Strange.

I usually just get him in at a completely random time and it tends to work.

That's only relevant in FPL Draft. Only mid-term potential matters in FPL.

    B) Jota -> Richarlison for -4

I did want to just do Sanchez and Arnautovic > Pedro and Aubameyang but I’m 0.1 off so I’m thinking
Luiz, Shaw, Sánchez > Alonso, Robertson, Mkhitaryan? For a -4 hit

Rest of team looks like this...

    Fabianski, Patricio
    Luiz Mendy Shaw Wan-Bissaka Schelotto
    Maddison Sanchez Salah Richarlison Neves
    Arnautovic Aguero Zaha

I have 2 FT Avaliable and my lack of Liverpool players is worrying me.

United has become a borefest. When Brighton went up 3-1 last night, you knew United would never be able to score 3 more to get it to 3-4.

Honestly not really. Lack of creativity, movement, team fluidity or whatever you call them.
        Mids were wasteful.
If I were being honest here, Pogba is overrated as cm/dm. Lukaku as ST as well.
Fellaini could fill their spots and could do well than them(he only lack of fancy flicks).

I think it's terrible to do this. You lose 0.1m and City have good fixtures too. You wouldn't be saying this if Bilva had scored that toe poke.

    2. MaxiRobriguez
      • 10 Years

      Keep Peltier as last bench.
      Keep Bernardo Silva.

Do nothing if that is a better option than doing something. Lose a FT, so what?

        Thanks Maxi.

Not against losing the FT. I have money in the bank to upgrade Peltier to a 4.5 but not an essential move for now and the money gives me flexibility elsewhere.
Lets see what happens tonight. I have 3 Liverpool and 3 Crystal Palace in my squad, anything could happen and change my plans.

Question: Best forward upto 7m for the next few weeks? Already have zaha
A: Mitrovic (BUR,bha,,mci,WAT): 3/4 decent fixtures..on pens, high goal involvement, fulham dont look attacking? baps potential?
B: King (EVE,che,LEI,bur): okkish fixtures, on pens..bmouth quite an attacking side, bournemouth have several goalscorers
C: Ings (LEI,cry,BHA,liv): good 3 fix. not on pens..posting good stats. havnt seen him play. passes the eye test?
D: Arnie (ars,WOL,eve,CHE): 1 good fixture, on pens, high goal involvement
E: Tosun (bou, HUD,WHU, ars): best 3 fixtures of the lots, stats look decent but yet to get off the mark

Question: Best premium mid (non salah)
X: Hazard: great 4 fixtures, on pens, gametime an issue in gw3..hard to tell his threat as he hasnt played a full match
Y: Mane (BHA, lei, tot, SOT): 2 good fixtures but pool very attacking side, on pens it seems..fixtures the only issue
Z: Sterling: great fixtures, good stats, was benched last gw..does it mean he will come back into team now?

Basically, Planning to ship Sanchez and King and considering options. will have 17m to spend
    1) premium mid (haz/mane/sterling) + mid price foward
    2) budget mid upto 6m (fraser?) + Auba
    3) mid priced mid (pedro/maddison/bilva) + Firmino/Morata
