Gameweek 10 is almost upon us and surely it can’t be as bad as Gameweek 9, right?

The lowest average of the season had many in despair.

The FPL community has been quieter than usual this week as managers lick their wounds.

I managed a score of 42 which was respectable considering some of the horror stories from the weekend.

The Punishers

Going into Gameweek 10, Anthony Knockaert (£5.5m) is causing me a headache. He came in on a double move in Gameweek 8, alongside Marko Arnautovic (£7.0m), to replace David Silva (£8.5m) and Callum Wilson (£6.5m). It’s safe to say, those were not my best transfers of the season! Wilson must have known I had sold him as he gave a salute in his goal celebration to rub salt in my wounds.

In hindsight, I should have been more patient with him as he still had three good fixtures and excellent underlying statistics despite going five games without a goal. I was hell-bent on getting Arnie in for the Brighton game which meant sacrificing Silva who also punished me with a nine-pointer in the 5-0 win over Burnley.

Knockaert hasn’t worked out and is now a rotation risk having sat out the Gameweek 9 fixture against Newcastle. He’s likely to be my transfer out this week.

The reason I went cheap with the Silva replacement was so that Andrew Robertson (£6.4m) could come in for Jose Holebas (£4.8m) in Gameweek 9 which worked out well. The Scottish Roberto Carlos was phenomenal again in the Champions League last night.

Salah and the Liverpool defence

Another player who impressed for Liverpool against Red Star Belgrade was the runaway leader in this week’s captaincy poll, Mohamed Salah (£12.8m). A brace, including one from the spot, has his owners feeling confident of a big haul at home to Cardiff this weekend. Non-owners will no doubt be looking at ways to get him.

Hat trick please Mo ©.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£5.1m) owners are worried after he missed his second game in a row. Dejan Lovren (£4.9m) has come in and posted back-to-back nine-pointers. The Croatian was an unused substitute in the Champions League in midweek which suggests he may start against Cardiff. If so, the big question is – who starts at right back, TAA or Joe Gomez (£5.1m)? If I owned TAA, I’d give him one more week if you have a solid first sub who can come in if he misses out again.

Knockaert replacements

Roberto Pereyra (£6.2m), Andre Schürrle (£6.0m), Kenedy (£4.9m) and Josh Murphy (£4.8m) are battling it out for a place in my Gameweek 10 squad.

Pereyra and Schurrle have four goals each, while Kenedy and Murphy have the favourable fixtures between now and Christmas and are much cheaper. More research is required before I come to a decision but I’m leaning towards going cheap and using the cash saved to improve things next week.

Benjamin Mendy (£6.3m) is top of my ‘Wanted’ list for Gameweek 11. Once he’s back in, the next step will be to figure out which Man City midfielder is worth the investment. A task I’m not looking forward to!

Good luck to all in Gameweek 10.

Dont like United, Chelsea, Liverpool as Richarlison's 3 of the next 5 opponents.

            Think both have to go.

I know what you mean about Richarlison's fixtures, but move the ticker forward a week and he has 4 favourable home games in 6.

If he stays up front, I don't think I'd want him regardless (2 shots in 2 games), but if he's back out wide he could do well. Not against moving him out, just something to think about

    Sorry to ask again

    A) Vardy + richarlison + sterling to salah + kdb + quaner for -8
    B) richarlison and sterling to salah and fodder for -4

    Full team:

    Patricio
    Alonso robertson taa awb bennett
    Sterling hazard maddison richarlison hojber
    Aguero vardy wilson

    1 ft. 0.4 itb

Want kdb and salah long term. If I do B I have to take another hit in coming weeks to get kdb in place of vardy
    Any better suggestions?
I will do alonso + wilson to mendy and arnie next week!

salah is the one I must have. not owning him will kill my rank. I sold him on WC because of tough fixtures and sterling as a placeholder
it's basically KDB vs Vardy here.
            any suggestion ?

I thought Kane(c) vs Cardiff was a must have. Ended up selling Salah. We all know how that went.

had planned to get arnie in place of wilson
wilson faces: arsenal, manutd, liverpool and mancity in next 6 games.
and you know, richarlison have tough matches coming, and KDB is great value at 9.7! and a good different captaincy option next week vs southampton

Predicting a goal from a defender is almost impossible, however, the stats seem to line up nicely for Michael Keane in the coming weeks. (GW11 to GW16)

Keane has the most headed attempts on goal from set plays with 13, which is 5 more than anyone else in any position. Everton have a mixed schedule for the next couple of months, easy home games and tough away games. From GW11 they play 4 home games and only 2 away games. I took a look at the teams they play at home and found an interesting statistic. Newcastle (GW15) have conceded the second most head goal attempts (27), Brighton (GW11) have conceded the 3rd most (26) and Watford (GW16) have conceded the 6th most (24). Cardiff is the other home game and they defend headers better than the other 3 but are still only middle of the pack.

The favourable fixtures also improves the chances of a clean sheet. Everton had struggled for cleans sheets at the start for the season getting their first in GW8 and following it up with another in GW9. Looking at the minutes per XG for away games, I found the following: Brighton are terrible away from home (2nd only to Huddersfield) with an expected goal for every 2 hrs of play. Newcastle and Cardiff aren't much better, they are expected to score about 1 goal per 90 minutes, Watford on the other hand are expected to score a goal an hour.

So not only does Keane look to have his best chance to score it also looks like there could be a couple of clean sheets too.

Defo see him scoring soon but don’t trust Everton defence and with his fixtures coming up I’d only want him for the home games

Really good post. I was aware of the Keane stat and Everton's defensive numbers are actually pretty strong over the last few weeks. Digne also an option but agreed about Keane, he's on my radar from next week.

Agree about the fixtures, but move it forward a week and they 4 home games in the next 6, against Brighton, Cardiff, Newcastle and Watford. It's not ideal but not out of the question to bench a 4.9m defender occasionally if you have a good squad.

Yeah that is a pathetic return. I haven't looked at past seasons, maybe he's just terrible at getting his shots on target or maybe this season is different, new manager or better service. It's that fact that he's had so many more attempts than everyone else that intrigues me.

Can't believe im saying this, but I think I might be benching kane this week

      Salah, hazard, Maddison, Fraser
      Mitrovic, Arnie

      Subs: kane, AWB, masuaku, Hamer.
      0FT

I also don't see the point of taking a hit for him as aguero I'd not an outstanding option this week and lacazette feels a bit short term.
Hazards Inhury might change that, but then I'll still just play kane rather than transfer.

Is anyone playing a 5-4-1 or 4-5-1? Tempted to keep Kun up top with 2 foddlers, and then have 3-4 premium defenders, 2 premium mids, and then the rest would all be playable.

Good idea with the premium defenders but personally think Arnie will outscore midfielders of that price over next 5-6 weeks plus easy enough to get a 4.4/4.5 who plays every week while there are no 4.5 strikers who regularly start, success started last week but none of the other 4.5 strikers are an option

Any suggestions on what to do (if anything) with my current team?

      Patricio (Hamer)
      Robbo Alonso Trippier (Bennett AWB)
      Hazard Sterling Maddison Richarlison (Neves)
      Aguero Wilson Mitro

      1 FT, 0.2 ITB

What’s everyone’s plan with King/Wilson after this week?

Fixtures suggest it’s time to shift, but nothing much appeals in that price range (except Arnie who I already have). Mitrovic, Ings and Jiménez have tough fixtures.

      A) Keep - good stats and MUN, new, ARS, HUD in the next 5 might not be that bad from an attacking perspective for a team full of goals

      B) Switch to one of the 4 mentioned

      C) Downgrade and go 3-5-2 or 4-4-2

Iheanacho could be a good replacement maybe

He seems to get hooked early a lot. Glenn Murray perhaps the best option in that bracket, but I’m tempted to just stick with the BOU attacker.

İ have King + Fraser, so King must go to Arny.

Yep, for those without Arnie it’s a fairly easy move. For the rest of us it’s a tricky one!

Cant get in mendy or robbo this week and sitting on the current team:

      TAA - Alonso - Pereira - Dohert - AWB
      Salah - Haz - Maddison - Rich - Ward
      Kün -Wilson - mitro

Am I too rash considering going TAA->Lovren and Mitro ->Arnie?

Mitro keep for next couple fixtures until their fixtures turn.

Lovren could be a risk I'd stick with TAA for now

Was thinking about sticking with TAA but then he got the full CL-game which kinda changed my mind. Having watched fullhams latest games I dont think Mitro is looking as hot as he did a couple of weeks ago

That's fair point but moving to Lovren now could be a risk but I think he's a safer bet over Gomes.

You're right on Mitrovic I don't know the underlying stats but I've got Arnie pencilled in to come in a few weeks.

        Salah
Better form and if you take the CL-game in consideration he should be the unquestionable pen-taker when milner is out

I got ward since gw 3 or something and he did get to play fwd the last gameweeks until his injury. Would be more comfortable with kennedy on the bench or as an occasional emergency starter
