Earlier in the season Dimitar Berbatov almost prompted me into using my precious Wildcard. A sublime hat-trick at home to Liverpool sent the pulse racing and the urge to tinker seemed overwhelming. The Bulgarian looked irresistible and, having been handed a modest price tag in the Fantasy Premier League game, almost essential.

Thoughts gathered, I managed to keep the knee from jerking and my Wildcard remained intact. I spent the Gameweeks that followed thanking my lucky stars that I’d resisted as Berbatov, without the influence of Wayne Rooney alongside him, struggled to recall similar form. He proved to be anything but essential.

Today, the day I actually did throw my FPL Wildcard into the ring, the Berbatov bomb exploded once more. Five goals in a 7-1 mauling of Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford will grab the headlines on day when the Premier League went off the rails – 36 goals in total – not a clean sheet in sight. Madness…

Such insanity can be problematic for Fantasy Managers. The irony of such an avalanche of goals and such an individual performance on the day I play my Wildcard is not lost on me. In many ways I’m relieved; my tinkering itch has been well and truly scratched in the last 24 hours – the urge for more squad surgery is exhausted.

For others, probably thousands of others, Berbatov’s incredible performance and record FPL points haul will doubtless lead to one of the biggest bandwagons in memory. Tonight the scalpels will be out, hurried calculations will be made, points hits considered, more sleep lost. Berbatov has once again caused a big stir in our community. Not bad for a player who is often accused of failing to break sweat on the pitch.

And no, I didn’t sign Berbatov with my Wildcard but I’m happy enough regardless. My day and my Wildcard was anything but spectacular, but I’m content enough to opt out of the frenzy that Berbatov will cause and for that, I’m thankful.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Which is more likely?

    1) Berba will keep scoring well as he did earlier on when he played with Rooney.

    2) Rooney played deeper and was more of a playmaker but now he will push on and score more himself thus also decreasing berba's points.

    Hmm just watched the Cleverley goal and Zog 'assist' here at 1 min 18

    http://therepublikofmancunia.com/video-tom-cleverleys-goal-against-west-ham/

    Annoyingly, not sure it's an assist, looks like Zog loses control of the ball and the defender kicks it to Clev.

        kind of like- youre dribbling, you take a bad touch, but you dont run after it cos one of your mates are there to blast it.

        the defender lying on the ground makes it suspect, but from a footballing perspective, the defender doesnt move his leg so nzog touches it last

        That's not the angle to watch it from. The one I saw had N'Zog bursting into the box, the ball getting touched by the defender, then him regaining it to lay it off to Cleverley.

    B&B thank you

    001 Sun 28 2359 Sun 28

    There is a high risk of severe weather affecting parts of northeast England and southern Scotland overnight and during Sunday morning.

    Further heavy snow will spread into northeast England and then southeast Scotland later tonight. This will then spread westwards across southern Scotland during Sunday morning. This will give additional accumulations of 5 cm to 15 cm quite widely, with up to 25 cm locally. The snow will be accompanied by strong winds leading to drifting in places, especially on high ground.

    LOVE ITTT!!! 🙂

      I wouldn't say tottenham, (steaua bucharest), VILLA, newcastle, (FC UTRECHT) was a great run.

      ...and Gerrard is out so less decent service is a factor.

      I still thing he's great, and has shown sparks in the last few games, but I can see why people would wanna get rid.

    Deep thoughts time;

    If any psychologist/alien came on the scene, and had never heard of fantasy football, and wondered what it was all about, why it was different to regular football, and what football wasn't giving us; what bothers us, what does it mean, why do you waste so much time on it, are you really serious about it, IS IT more IMPORTANT to us than football itself; why do you dodge your sexual partner to fiddle with it.....i can sum it up with these couple of unequivocal facts;

    I have watched the nzog Assist clip about 9 times or something, i have composed and sent an email, i have had in depth discussions on it with strangers on a website..AND, here's the kicker...I haven't seen the goal yet.

    Q.E.D.

    But with Piq the one I was about to send out, it don't be an easy decision!
