How in-form Diogo Jota compares with other Fantasy options

Diogo Jota‘s (£5.9m) hat-trick against Leicester City on Saturday has predictably led to a flurry of activity in Fantasy Premier League, with the “out of position” midfielder having been snapped up by over 60,000 managers at the time of writing.

Jota has five goals and two assists in his last five Premier League starts and with Wolverhampton Wanderers sitting top of our Season Ticker for the next six Gameweeks, there will be keen interest in the Portugal under-21 star going into their home match against West Ham United next Wednesday.

Jota’s upturn in form has coincided with a small tweak in Nuno Espirito Santo’s formation, with the 3-4-3 of Gameweeks 1-14 giving way to a 3-4-1-2 since then.

As a result, Jota is playing in a more central role alongside Raul Jimenez (£6.5m), rather than in the wide-left position he occupied in the first three months of the campaign.

We will, therefore, analyse Jota’s data from Gameweek 15 onwards, with that being the point the strike partnership with Jimenez was born.

It should be pointed out, of course, that we are dealing with a relatively small sample size after this point, given that Jota was injured from Gameweeks 18-21. Nevertheless, a cursory study of the two data sets seems appropriate given the demand he suddenly finds himself in among the Fantasy community.

As well as analysing any improvements in Jota’s game, we will look at how he compares with Jimenez as a Fantasy asset and if his appeal is favourable to other mid-price FPL midfielders.

First post on here for aaaaaages. Having a rubbish season, this is my team atm.

    Fabianski - (Boruc)
    Robertson - Doherty - Digne - (Wan B - J. Richards)
    Salah - Pogba - Anderson - Fraser - (Elneny)
    Wilson - Auba - Arnautovic

1 FT and 3.4M ITB. Thinking of Arnie & Elneny out, Rashford & Jota in for a -4?
    Any other moves make sense?

I'd just do Arnie to Rashford.
That gives you a decent front 7, definitely don't take a -4 to bring in a player just to bench them (or bench Fraser who could easily get returns)

      Honestly neither.
Jota has obviously just played a blinder, but it's his first real return of the season, nothing suggests this is going to be a regular thing.

Wait and see on Spurs, they have a couple of cups games to be judged on before their next PL game, personally I think they might struggle for attacking returns with Kane, and Dele out.

I'll take your word on that.

I barely watch a game anymore. And based on Villa fans on FB opinions on Villa games I do watch I think a lot of people's eye tests are crocked

            1. HamezMace
              • 9 Years
              5 years, 3 months ago

I think a lot of people have biased eye tests, depending on whether or not they like a player/team, whereas stats don't lie, they are often manipulated to twist what people want to see.
Such as player X has bad stats - in away games only.

Both approaches work, just personally I like to pick players based on how they look, in a real life game, not on paper.

          Yes, that's fair.
I'm basing my opinion on the games I've seen him play this season .
The Leicester game was insanely open, and I think it's unlikely he'll get such an easy ride again this season from anyone.

Yeah I'm a bit sceptical too. But I have an impression he's starting to show a form everyone was hoping for at the start of the season. At 5.9 he's not much of a risk anyway.

Wolves also don't tend to score a lot, obviously they did against Leicester, but that game was bizarrely very open (Wolves also conceded more than usual) - and I know Bubz owns Jimenez, a Wolves attacking double up seems overkill.

Tbh its like a few players with that build.

There's no doubt that Higuain, Deeney, Rooney, Tevez etc have, at times, allowed their weight to slip during periods without playing.

Higuain was overweight during his first Juventus pre-season and its a stereotype that has stuck with him. Regardless, he is as hard-working and team-focused a striker as you could want, he will prove a lot of people wrong between now and the end of the season I think.

The thing is his body type is actually normal. An average 31 years old man looks like this so why judge? Because he's well known professional football player and you gotta say something to sound funny and get likes? Or are they just looking for attention and confirmation? I don't know. It's really ironic that those who call him fat probably look similar or worse in real life. Keyboard warriors who don't know much about anatomy, physiology and biology should pipe down.

Average men and professional footballers should not have the same body, same skin folds or body fat percentage period. Any athlete for that matter should eclipse the ‘average’ standards

This is true but we are talking about a professional athlete, not an average size sedentary office worker. Its not a fair comparison. And in the case of the 2 professions, you can carry extra weight and still work on a computer, but in the case of a footballer, if that weight stops you from performing your job to the best of your ability, then the employer is entitled to be less than pleased.

If he does not succeed within the first 3 gameweeks, he wil drop by about 1.0 million in price.

That's almost impossible. Would need to max drop 0.3 every week of 3 and that would be 0.9m and also be mega owned. Maybe 0.5 drop over 3-4 weeks if doesn't fire

      Awkward price position.
      Expensive compared to cheaper alternatives.
Only Firmino in his price range to get in 1 FT if goes wrong.
I'm gonna pass that. Just hopefully Hazard FPL points increases 😉

JWP, Hojbjerg, Redmond, McNeil, Westwood, and Brooks.

Probably JWP for the short-term. He has the form, fixtures, and stats. Brooks is the better long term option.

Are people already taking into account GW31 in their transfers? Assuming you are not using a chip that week and saving for the doubles.

As we know Liverpool will be playing, and Burnley-Leicester is also quite likely to be played.

I've worked out I have 5 players as it stands (3 Liv, 1 Bur, 1 Sot) so have 6 transfers to get a full 11 out.

Obviously this weekend will have a huge affect as well.

I'm lining him up for the exit, especially if he blanks in 31/33

He is guaranteed to play, Hazard back to the wing so is guaranteed to get service. I can't see him flopping. The sort of player Chelsea have been screaming out for. Plus he may have a DGW very soon. And if I'm wrong it's a very easy swap to someone else in a few gameweeks.
