Captains

Captain Sensible – Salah the favourite for Gameweek 24

Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) looks to be the main captain candidate considered for Gameweek 24.

However, we wouldn’t be doing our jobs properly if we didn’t assess any potential alternatives to the Egyptian for the upcoming midweek Fantasy Premier League action.

In this latest Captain Sensible article, we’ll be analysing each player in the debate, as well as the prospects of their club and their opposition…

Captain Poll

Not surprisingly, Salah leads the captain poll for a second week running ahead of Leicester’s trip to Anfield. The 45% support for the Egyptian comes from two places, the key one being his form, with six double-figure hauls in his last eight matches. The fact that the Foxes’ out-of-sorts defence shipped four goals at Wolves in Gameweek 23 is also likely to be a huge contributing factor.

Salah’s lead is not quite as large as it was for the last round of FPL action, as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.3m) sits in second place with a 20% share. The Arsenal man does present a compelling alternative to the Liverpool man as Cardiff come to the Emirates Stadium with the second-worst record on the road in the Premier League. In three away matches against top-six opposition this season, the Bluebirds have zero points with an aggregate score of 9-2. They look the perfect opponents for Aubameyang to continue his excellent home form, with goal involvements in four of his last five league matches at the Emirates.

Our voters may have cottoned onto the fact that Burnley are slowly making improvements, and are starting to represent tougher opposition than they did earlier in the campaign. Manchester United pair Paul Pogba (£8.7m) and Marcus Rashford (£7.7m) sit third and fourth in the poll but with just 7% and 5% shares respectively, despite their blistering recent form. The two players have scored 108 FPL points between them since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over at Old Trafford.

At 3% backing in fifth place, Alexandre Lacazette (£9.3m) looks like he’s being considered by some as an alternative to Aubameyang with Cardiff coming to north London.

Despite a little uncertainty over his likeliness of starts, Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) is the most popular Manchester City player in the Gameweek 24 captain poll, with 2.5% of the votes ahead of a trip to Newcastle. That may be because of his excellent scoring record against the Magpies, finding the net nine times in his last five Premier League matches against them.

The Argentinian forward sits ahead of Leroy Sané (£9.7m) and Raheem Sterling (£11.3m) who are on 2.12% and 1.37% respectively. Neither one of them got any minutes against Burton Albion or Burnley so they look the most likely to start at St James’ Park.

Sandwiched among the Manchester City assets is Eden Hazard (£11.0m), who has a 2.37% share of the votes. That’s ahead of a trip to Bournemouth, who have averaged 1.42 goal conceded per home match in 2018/19. The Belgian’s brand new strike partner Gonzalo Higuain (£9.5m) has entered the debate too with 1.31%, just a little ahead of Diogo Jota (£6.0m) on 1.25%.

Do you have more to do though? Because the next two isn't relevant otherwise; wouldn't it just be the next one?

I would still do it, though, now or next week.

Current midfield is Rich Pogba Hazard Salah Billing
Only way to get Sane and Sterling is Rich and Haz out
So now or next week still it takes -4
Better to do it now? Rich has Hud away.. difficult

Following on from my post on the last article (about the lack of material discussing the Salah-non-owners in the top ten k), I was wondering if anyone knows the easiest way to extract data from FPL. I'd like to look into it and see how these people are playing (and maybe write a little thing on it) but not super savvy on data extraction. Any help would be much appreciated.

Some things will be made quite easy for me this week I think based on results.

    1. Alonso benched? He's out, probably for TAA
    2. Auba fail with another prime fixture (like vs WHU)? Ditch him for Rashford (though it means no premium forwards)

Owning Auba is simple. He has a track record of success for games at home vs weak opposition (with exceptions). Not sure if I would drop Auba especially for GW27 around the corner.

I can get him in for Sterling but it would be a minus four and Sterling has a double coming up. I know that "players make their own luck", but Mo has been jammy af recently.

Some say it's a calculated risk; others say not owning him means I've already lost enough ground to force me into wrecklessness.

    Conundrums Galore!

    Etheridge
    Robertson | Digne | Luiz | Doherty
    Salah | Hazard | Sane | Pogba
    Rashford | Firmino

    Guaita* | AWB | Long* | Mcneil £0.3m ITB

    A) Hazard + Firmino > Jota + Auba (-4)
    B) Sane + Firmino > Jota + Auba (-4)
    C) Guaita > Ryan (or other suggestion?)
    D) Long > Ings FT
    E) Guaita + Long > Ryan + Ings (-4)
    F) Look to bring in Jota and Auba over next few GW

    Any other suggestions?

Like idea of keeping Salah and Firmino.
Have held Hazard through recent poor patch and unsure whether to ditch or trust with Higuain shaking things up.
Would Jota and Auba outperform Haz and Firmino?
Really fancy getting in Auba ASAP for Cardiff and for longer term.
Like the idea of Doherty plus Jota with long term fixtures, form and price esp. Jota.
Mcneil is just fodder but could be useful in Blank GW31?

Looking further ahead, assuming i go ahead with my planner transfers of Alonso/Fanderson/Hazard >> Laporte/Sane/Sterling (-4), i will end up with this heading into bgw27 with 2ft and 0.7m itb. Will have 8 starters.

    Fab -- Button
Doherty Schindler Holebas -- Digne* Laporte*
    Salah Pogba Rich* Sane* Sterling*
    Rashford Jimenez -- Kamara

So was thinking something like Laporte + Rich + Sane > Maguire + Puncheon + Auba(c) (-4) which will give me 11 starters (including puncheon).

is that viable? i could avoid the Alonso > Laporte move ahead of the dgw to save me 4 points but essentially its only a 2 point hit is laporte is nailed imo so doesnt make that much of a diff.

Alternatively, i could do Alonso >> Kola (good fix this gw) now and then Fanderson/Hazard >> Sterling/Sane (-4) next gw. that would still mean a hit but atleast give me an extra player in bgw27

If you have 2 FT in GW25, would you do Hazard, Jimenez to Sterling, Kun ?

These moves will give me 3 City attackers (more fun than a ceiling of 12 points from Ederson). Then will transfer out Kun to Auba in GW26 and one of Sterlo/Sane to Son in GW 27

    Good plan ?

I hear you but still think Kun, Sterlo with 2 games will outscore Hazard + Jimenez haha

It's very possible they do , if you have a feeling that aguero will do good then just get him otherwise you'll be gutted if he hauls

    Sterling owned by 11%

Now I'm just jealous. He's a great (c) option for the DGW. I'll have to make to do with Ederson and Sane (c)

Looks like he's missed a step from when he was firing on all cylinders in GW11-14.

    Currently have 1FT 1.8m ITB

Team for GW 24 & save FT

    Patricio (Fabianski)
    VVD Robbo Digne (Doherty AWB)
Salah (c) Pogba Richarlison Lingard (Gudmundsson)
    Aubameyang Jimenez Rashford

Plan for DGW 25 with 2 FT

Patricio VVD Lingard --> Edersen Bedernak Sane (c) -4

    Thoughts?

Certainly save FT for GW24. Prefer Robbo to VVD so plan for 25 looks OK, for now.

Ya have Robbo all season and funds tied up and think he's a great stacking option. Brought VVD in for TAA last week thinking TAA was out long term but now thinking of ditching VVD already to have the option of bringing TAA back in.

As for DGW 25 those transfers are my first thought as I don't want to really lose anyone else. Plans could all change though with one injury

Hey lads, 1 FT 0.1 ITB: need to sell Alli...

    Alison, Speroni

Digne, Shaw, Jonny / WB, Bednarek

    Salah(c), Alli*, Sterling, Richarlison, Pogba

    Firminho, Rashford / 4.4

    A) Alli => Son
    B) Alli => Lucas
    C) Alli=> David Silva
    D) Alli => Lucas Moura/Jota

    Fab
    Alonso Digne Shaw Doherty
    Salah (c) Hazard Richarlison Pogba
    Auba Rashford

    Button AWB Snodgrass Kamara

Roll FT to get city coverage in 25, likely Hazard making way for Sane.

    Good to go?
