Personally I'd go Heaton over Schmeichel - he's racking up the save points and that leaves room for a Pereira or Maguire for 31/3 as Leicester cover.

    Fab
    Robbo • Doherty • AWB
    Salah • Haz • Pogba • Son • Jota
    Rashford • Jimènez

    (Button / TAA / Digne / Kamara)
    2 Fts

Hazard & Kamara ➡️ Auba & fodder for free?

Will have enough money to upgrade Son to Hazard/Sterling when their fixtures improve.

Auba could also be a placeholder for Aguero/Higuain.

    Laca worth considering over Auba?

    Appreciate your thoughts! 🙂

AWB over Bennett. Palace 11 goals last 4 vs Leicester without a goal in reply. Leicester 2-0 up then 2-2 and no goals next 3. Wolves can't keep CS. Pat and Doherty owner all season

Best one-week Midfielder option for GW27? (not Salah, Pogba, Son, Fanderson)
Money no object as he'll be replacing Sterling.
I'm thinking Eriksen away at Burnley.

Eriksen hitting form and if it's for one week only then he's a great shout.
I like the chances of Almiron playing as a no.10 against Huddersfield too. Though clearly the latter could be a much bigger gamble

I did an article on Newcastle here a few days ago. Was good to hear some NUFC fans agreeing Almiron should be starting against Huddersfield. Looks a very interesting player and could spark a good run of form. I haven't put him in, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't considering it

Aubameyang for Arsenal last season did well. My view is that he "could" do well. NUFC need a spark for sure and he could hit the ground running.
January isn't known for major signings and obviously they don't get the pre season as summer signings get. In Almiron's case, he was on the radar for 18 months I believe, I think he knew well in advance the move was happening, and they will have had the couple of weeks in Spain training together.

I just think there is a chance he could fit right in. I'm not stating facts that he will and that everyone should sign him pal

You could look at Fraser - possibly as a hold on bench in 28/9 if possible to have him for that great run from 30.

Wolves are conceding goals especially if you factor in how their first choice defence did with Shrewsbury and Bournemouth tend to score heaps at home.

Depending on my transfers this week it's likely I'll have the same dilemma and am thinking this may be a week to play Camarasa over TAA to be honest. Can't see Pool keeping a CS and reckon Cam could get some attacking returns v Watford. That's not to say TAA couldn't get attacking returns v Man U but Camarasa is well rested following minor injury and poses a decent threat.

With the captaincy choice a little less obvious this week, does anyone have any stories of maverick captain picks coming good, or going seriously wrong?

Andy Carroll (TC).. enough said. Don’t gamble this week. 1) Auba, 2) Salah, 3) Felipe, 4) Son

I was expecting that answer, along with TC Harry Kane.
I'd still consider Anderson to be a fairly risky captain pick.
I have no Arsenal players, and fancy someone other than Salah.
I'm between Anderson, Son, and Jimenez.

I would love to be able to tell a really good maverick pick that was instantly successful mate.... 🙁
Though I will get back to you next week and discuss why I thought Arnie the perfect captain for me in GW 27 😀
I actually think Kiwi has a point in stating how difficult the Southampton fixture will be for Arsenal. 3-2 defeat in the reverse fixture and nothing is making me want an Arsenal attacker. Happy to own Kola.

Usually people are always up for some humble bragging!
Arnie could be a great shout.
..I think people who own Auba really have to consider him the favourite, I don't have him, and won't be getting him, so not on my list.

Exactly that mate. If I owned him, I'd feel obliged to give him the captaincy this week. I'm just not excited enough to bring Auba in. Son is in tremendous form and he'll be a season keeper for me. Unfortunately my mind is set though and he will be VC. Expect him and Auba to be top captaincy picks ahead of Salah

        Im not convinced by Arnautovic.

Why didnt he start the previous game? He was fit. So must be related to his behaviour, past and present. Because he hasnt looked like himself since January every time he was on the pitch.

Not convinced Pellegrini still trusts him, and not convinced his team mates still want to fight for him - or for the team if he is playing

          • 7 Years

He was recovering from a minor back injury as well as all the hype over a possible move away. I'm assuming all will be forgotten and he does well. I hope anyway. Pellegrini loves him and definitely didn't want him to leave

Yes he had trained all week. Didn't play against Liverpool the game before and had the transfer saga surrounding him. I think the right thing to do was bench him. Even if he was 100% as you call it. It's only my hunch that he plays and does well in the Fulham game. I think they desperately need him as the focal point in that team

They certainly do. And if he is up for it and the team plays for him too, he could easily score a brace.

                But that’s two IFs.

Fwiw I was convinced Batshuayi would be starting straight away and score in both games.

And he only played 45 mins over 180... still think it was a mistake from Hodgson tho.

I think the small blanks like GW 27 are a perfect time to be more maverick. It will be a case of hoping the obvious captain choices like Auba blank, and seeing a maverick pick (like Arnie) score and then it's a hue advantage

From an FPL stand point, what results do you want in the FA Cup this weekend? I only have 3 players guaranteed to play in gw31 but I have all my chips so could free hit. I feel like I either want as many games as possible to blank or alternatively as many games as possible to be on, so at least it's obvious when to use my chips. I could get left between a rock and a hard place if it's only Wolves and Man Utd that go out.

I'd like Chelsea to go out.

That'd make it really interesting. Their form may be cack but it'd leave room for bringing in Higuain/Hazard in 29 against Fulham - potentially a haul game.

There'd be a really interesting balance then of deciding whether to tool up for 31/3 or FH it/ride it out with a weak team.

By contrast if Wolves go out then it becomes almost too easy. The vast majority of teams have multiple Wolves and 31 will be less of a challenge.

Yeah my team would need to be:

        Patricio
        AWB/Robertson/Shaw/Doherty/Bamba
        Camarasa/Pogba/Salah
        Rashford/Jimenez

1st sub: Pereyra (injured?), (Aguero, Sterling)

With the exception of AWB all my players are caught up in just 3 games (LIV V MAN, CAR v WAT, WOL v BOU). Feel like I need some coverage elsewhere, prime candidates being Son (or maybe Eriksen even) and F.Anderson.

        What you reckon?

This GW headache would turn into a nice picture GW28 onward... Aguero + Sterling is powerful combo.
Fully realize now the point - I would be reluctant to take '-4' this GW, as in general low scores may be all round (so no reason to start with a deficit).
Having said that, Sterling -> Son (C) would be the safe pick, while Sterling -> F Ansderson (C) as differential.

Doesn't look too bad for the coming week after skilfully avoiding lots of points last week. Only Kamara stinking up my bench

Can do the obvious Digne > Pereira move but intrigued by a move for a Newcastle defender which should pay back instantly as Huddersfield are complete gash

Digne > Schar would give me 1.6m which is short of enabling Kamara > Jimenez but could allow an upgrade of Hojbjerg. Need to keep cash in the bank for Auba > Kun after Auba applies the coup de grace by blanking this week

    Thoughts?

    Fab
    TAA Doherty AWB Bednarek
    Salah Son Pogba Hojbjerg
    Auba Rashford

    xx/Digne/Sterling/Kamara
