Interview with Fantasy Eliteserien expert Jonas Bergh-Johnsen

In our latest video and podcast, Joe chats to TV journalist Jonas Bergh-Johnsen, who has been closely involved with the development of Norway’s top-flight game, Fantasy Eliteserien.

As a football reporter and host for TV channel Discovery Norway and co-host of Fantasy Football podcast, Fantasy FK, he is among a group of experts that Eliteserien Fantasy’s developers have called on for advice.

During his interview with Joe, Jonas explains how he has helped ensure this season’s pricing aims to reflect points potential across all teams and why bargain hunters will have to work even harder this time around.

While Fantasy Eliteserien’s gameplay and interface will be familiar to Fantasy Premier League managers, Jonas discusses the notable differences.

Chief among these is the game’s innovative chips, including the ‘Rich Uncle’ that offers Fantasy managers the chance to deploy a free hit with an unlimited budget.

Another is Fantasy Eliteserien’s use of a ‘man in the stands’ method of choosing bonus. Meanwhile, Norway top-flight calendar means that Double Gameweeks can often arrive early, due to cup commitments and the Scandinavian weather.

His top player picks for the start of the season are also revealed, as is his strategy for dealing with the first Double Gameweek of the season in Round 2.

Jonas also talks about his love of Fantasy Premier League. This season he is currently ranked inside the top 3,000, has two top 500 finishes and a further two in the top 1,500 across his ten-year career.

Whether you are a long time Fantasy Eliteserien player or looking to play for the first time, Jonas offers invaluable advice ahead of this season’s launch on March 30.

FH32 team what do we think?

    Ederson
    Azpilicueta Lindelof Shaw Boly
    Deulofeu Hazard Sterling
    Aguero Kane Rashford

Shaw is on 9 YCs so probably a bit too risky given you also have Lindelof.

Double united defence and boly are a no from me. Otherwise alright.

That's the problem with having Kane on my team. I need to put cheap defenders in and there aren't really convincing options below 5m

Yep. Kane is the only Spurs player I would consider, but I can't get a decent defence and fit him in with Aguero, Sterling and Hazard.

ona FH dont think anyone should be relying on defenders really, Kane will steal the limelight.

and to me that makes the decision, if Kane had good fixtures it would be a problem, but you ca´t really say that when they have Pool away and Palace home. He might score but 12.5m is a lot when you can invest in better options elsewhere and you´ll prob be captaining a City player?

United´s 2 games looks to me like goalscoring games, where both side to concede is likely scenario, Chelsea, albeit in a patchy form seems to me more potential to get CS.

Deu is a nice diff, one would think a team like Watford wants to reach the cup final, that could dent his appeal, as Fulham game the one you´d really want him for.

Boly vs two teams that defends set pieces badly could be a decent one, Cs hard to come by for Wolves though.

Current Team (playing TC this week - 1 FT):
    Ryan
    Robertson Pereira AWB
    Salah Pogba Sterling Mané
    Jimenez Higuain Rashford

Which of these options would you go for?
    A) Save FT (Sterling TC)
    B) Salah > Hazard (Sterling TC)
    C) Salah + Higuain > Hazard + Agüero (TC) (-4)

    Cheers

B or C depending on your gut feel on Aguero's minutes for man city. Personally I think he starts both, so C.

    Who would you prefer ??
    A. Jimenez/Jota
    B. Deulofeu
    C. Batsman

    A & B are rotation risk.
But read few post here that Watford rotation against Man City was a one off.
    So ...

C if no other Palace cover, otherwise B. I think the Deulofeu rotation worries are being overdone considering their cup match is Sunday and have an international break before, so have him myself.

Between B and C, I went B only because there are better options for that FWD spot (Kane, Aguero, Rash, Lukaku, Higuain) but there are not many 4th MID options. Both good options though.

        Yeah
Batsman is my 7th striker atm.
Getting Deulofeu can help me upgrade Duffy to a United defender ( if you think it's an upgrade 😛 )

All I can really afford tbh.
Delo vs Fulham scares me but so does the talk of rotation. Townsend could be a great differential pick but forces me to play a single GW def Valery - which could also pay off....

More that those who want a Palace forward are usually picking them as a mid-price option (9th/10th player they pick) rather than an enabler (more likely the 11th), so will be able to stretch to Zaha/Bats/Mili with the extra cash.

    Big hitter dilemma.
With Aguero and Sterling as near to being essential as anyone, the other two premium players that most are considering would be Hazard or Kane. So...

Personally going for eriksen over man to free up money.

Hazard no returning but after watching the games he’s always unlucky. Can’t see Kane scoring against pool whereas hazard has to good fixtures where anything could happen, he’s the center of their team anything that happens will go through him.

Your decision at the end of the day.

It is rather Chelsea lack of form. Last 2 games were the same. Chelsea very lively in first 20 minutes or so, but wasteful. Hazard and Higuain both had enough chances to score. Then the opponent started to absorb the attacks and Chelsea plays too slow to create good chances. But Cardiff and Brighton at home should be much easier for them.

    A) Townsend + Valery
    or
    B) Deulofeu + Marriappa

A means I dont play against any of my own players and arguably has better fixtures (but one less fixture)

B means having 11 players with DGWs but playing against my united assets.

    Leaning towards A currently.

I think if you also factor in Kane is nearly an extra 3mill, you won't captain him, that 3mill can be spent strengthening elsewhere for a better all round team.

Only news I've seen is that he's on his 6,400 mile round trip for the Ivory Coast which is disconcerting for now.

Great point. Might rethink my 3rd striker.

If Sane ends up missing GW32 because of injury does that potentially make Mahrez a decent option? He has a goal and an assist in his last 2 games

was he injured during yesterdays match?

Hobbled off the pitch just before the end of the game after a bad challenge. Unknown yet if the injury is bad or not. I'm just speaking hypothetically at the moment

ah thnx, didn't see the match. Germany play Netherlands this Sunday, wouldn't mind Sane sitting that one out, out of precaution.

Mahrez is never a decent option. Bernardo Silva and Sterling to cover the wide forward positions

Thoughts on David Silva at a similar price?

Sané being out means Zinchenko plays more or?

    1. HamezMace

      No.
      1. Sane isn't out.
      2. Zinchenko has been used mostly as left back.
      3. Sane is out of the team currently anyway, but if he were playing, he'd be in competition with Mahrez, and B.Silva more directly than Zinchenko.

So Sané wasn't injured last night with that horror tackle?

          just found this recently

          https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/leroy-sane-gives-injury-update-14165959?fbclid=IwAR1Ew1PVmaZwrS8K402vMLIvw4ED-_f0n9dJFT_F0A6x_zPWfXK3Iw9P3as

In it Sane is quoted as saying "Everything is okay with my ankle joint and I'm quite satisfied with my performance." So sounds like he should be fine after all

            Yes.
In the article I posted, Lowe confirms he is fit for the Germany game against Holland on Sunday.

Started every PL game apart from 1 this season before missing West Ham and Bournemouth with injury and he was back on the bench against Watford so he should be ready to come back

My team value isn’t the greatest but here’s what I’ve managed to squeeze out of it....

    Kepa
    Laporte Lindelof Valery
    Sterling Hazard Pogba Townsend
    Aguero Higuain Rashford

    Speroni Romeu Connolly Simpson

I’m aware Valery doesn’t have a DGW but could still get decent returns....

Currently debating between Townsend + Valery or Delofeu + Marriappa (like I said before budget is tight)

Don’t think I want to change the other players so I’m kinda stuck on those last two places.....

With your low TV I would lose Higuain and upgrade elsewhere (Townsend / Valery)
