Interview with Fantasy Eliteserien expert Jonas Bergh-Johnsen

In our latest video and podcast, Joe chats to TV journalist Jonas Bergh-Johnsen, who has been closely involved with the development of Norway’s top-flight game, Fantasy Eliteserien.

As a football reporter and host for TV channel Discovery Norway and co-host of Fantasy Football podcast, Fantasy FK, he is among a group of experts that Eliteserien Fantasy’s developers have called on for advice.

During his interview with Joe, Jonas explains how he has helped ensure this season’s pricing aims to reflect points potential across all teams and why bargain hunters will have to work even harder this time around.

While Fantasy Eliteserien’s gameplay and interface will be familiar to Fantasy Premier League managers, Jonas discusses the notable differences.

Chief among these is the game’s innovative chips, including the ‘Rich Uncle’ that offers Fantasy managers the chance to deploy a free hit with an unlimited budget.

Another is Fantasy Eliteserien’s use of a ‘man in the stands’ method of choosing bonus. Meanwhile, Norway top-flight calendar means that Double Gameweeks can often arrive early, due to cup commitments and the Scandinavian weather.

His top player picks for the start of the season are also revealed, as is his strategy for dealing with the first Double Gameweek of the season in Round 2.

Jonas also talks about his love of Fantasy Premier League. This season he is currently ranked inside the top 3,000, has two top 500 finishes and a further two in the top 1,500 across his ten-year career.

Whether you are a long time Fantasy Eliteserien player or looking to play for the first time, Jonas offers invaluable advice ahead of this season’s launch on March 30.

Can't find a way to get both, Mili and Rash. Best option? Triple Palace too much?

    A) Schlupp, Duffy, Rashford
    B) Schlupp, Milivojevic, Batshuayi
    C) Lindelöf, Milivojevic, Deeney

Hey all. Any thoughts on the below FH team? Good to go or would you change anything? Thanks in advance!

    Ederson
    Lindelof - Schlupp - Luiz
    Sterling - Pogba - Hazard - Son
    Aguero - Rashford - Jimenez

Just about identical to 90 of the previous 100 FH teams on here, so it must be good 🙂

      Not sure for son.
I would downgrade rash to deeny and upgrade son to any city. Sane or mahrez.
I think they can still score more than him

Assuming he’s ok after that tackle last night, what are managers thoughts on Sané? Delph and Mendy both doubts. Could run riot against those weaker teams.

I'd be tempted, but with Sterling and Aguero all but essential for this DGW, he takes up a valuable Man City slot that most will want to use on Ederson/Laporte

Agreed, it’s whether you go with Laporte or Ederson over him. I do think there are more options in defence than attack however, Chelsea, Man U, CP all have potential for a good return.

He has played the last 6 etc, but has otherwise been rotated all season

Try thinking of them less as predictions and more as a reflection of past results in similar fixtures. I'm not saying that's what they are, as there are all sorts of data rolled into them from what I understand.

Yes, I appreciate they are a prediction from an amalgamation of data. I just wondered if anyone regularly compares their prediction with actually score. I think I’ll start doing this, will hopefully aid in algorithm development.

That first point debatable given it's the semi final and he may not feel comfortable trusting the fringe players after the Swansea game. If I had to guess I'd say Kun starts the two league games and rests in the cup, but it's far from certain.

I agree but a man can hope. I just have the guy feeling to go elsewhere than aguero. Slight knock or an early big lead in the second game can result in him maybe taken off. Plus if he leaves Jesus out for a while he may need to get some decent match practice with the team for the cup games

      No TC on Pogba 😉

I think you have to have Aguero....but having Kane does mean you don’t have to take a hit to bring him in for Huds. If you are chasing go Kane, if trying to hold position go Kun. TC hazard is a gamble, they aren’t clicking at the moment and have struggled against wolves and Everton. Everton have been woeful at the back too.

        F**K pogba atm.

Hazard is a huge risk and I know not many will follow suit. However, hazard can fire at any point and isn't immune to big hauls. A penalty and an assist with his 2 nice fixtures can be enough for it to work.

OR 95000, having aguero in my team or captain wouldn't really fire me up those rankings.

Hazard actually has the highest potential for next week. I don’t think he’s a huge risk to be honest - Kane is however. Having Aguero and captaining Hazard is a good option

442 with Delo > Laporte and that's a solid team.

      Nice!
      Quite similar to mine below.

Would like to bring some Spurs in too, Alli would be a nice differential if no money for Kane, you have.

Personally I would down ground Kane and bring in Azp and Ederson. Unless you are going to captain Kane I feel it’s hard to have him in a FH team.

What to do with this FH team:

    Kepa
    Luiz - Laporte - Lindelöf
    Hazard - Sterling - Pogba - Deulofeu
    Kun - Lukaku - Batshuayi

    A) Kaku + Deulofeu
    B) Alli + Rashford

    1. Batshuayi
    2. Zaha

    Other recommendations welcome too

    A) Deulo, (3.8def) : 3-5-2
    B) (Stephens), Lindelof : 4-4-2

Hard to decide who likely to do better over the 2 matches

You think Deulofeu can start both matches ??
I'm also looking @ him to upgrade defense a bit.
But his minutes looks to be doubtful

        Not sure that’s why I’m considering 4-4-2

I think I’m losing faith that Batsman can pull any big points out the bag. May change back to 3-4-3 though if I change mind again lol

I'd go with him then. Deulofeu has the much higher ceiling, should he start both.

I've been weighting up a 2nd mid vs a City defender. At the moment I'm leaning more towards Laporte, he's not in the France squad and usually plays every minute when fit.

Thoughts on this 3-5-2 FH32 team?

    3 x MCY, CHE, MUN + Schlupp & Deulofeu

    Kepa
    Luiz, Lindelof, Schlupp
Sterling, Hazard, Pogba, D Silva, Deulofeu
    Aguero, Rashford

    Bank 0.2m
    Subs: Fodder

Have WanB, MIli and Rudiger for Luiz, Deu and Schlupp

I honestly think Christensen will feature in the game against Brighton. I'm a Chelsea fan and I know he has had only 3 PL starts but I have this nagging doubt. I have owned Luiz since the MCI home game where he scored and am contemplating going Rudiger for the FH. But then I see Luiz not travelling for the friendlies and get more confused.

I'd stick to your team and bank the 0.2.

Deulofeu for me, but really not much in it from what I understand. Both seem to have similar threats of rotation.

Bats. Zaha flagged and Jiminez will be rotated for the 2nd of the DGW games I reckon.
