Captains

Captain Sensible – No stand-out candidate for Double Gameweek 34

With no standout favourite in the captaincy debate for Double Gameweek 34, Fantasy managers have been handed an opportunity for sizeable green arrows.

The lack of an obvious option to turn to in the wake of Harry Kane‘s (£12.6m) injury, it means that his support will be split among other candidates.

In order to find the best one for this latest Double Gameweek, we have undertaken some extensive research for the latest Captain Sensible article.

Captain Poll

Because of that injury to Kane, we rest the captain poll half-way through the week in the build-up to Double Gameweek 34. We took that decision because at the time of his knock, the Tottenham forward was enjoying a healthy lead, which he would be unlikely to follow through on with him not expected to play against Huddersfield.

We recorded the results at the time of the reset so that we could document what Kane’s injury had done to the captaincy debate.

The captain poll results before Kane’s injury

As you can see from the picture above, Kane was absolutely running away with the captain poll before he got injured. He was enjoying a 49.95% share of the vote as he was expected to wreak havoc against a recently relegated Huddersfield side. His backing was probably so big because he was the least likely attacking Spurs player not to be rotated after Champions League action.

In second place was Shane Duffy (£4.7m) but he was a long way off with just 14.38% of the vote. The support for him obviously stemming from Brighton’s Double Gameweek. It pits them against Bournemouth and Cardiff at home, two sides that have struggled on their travels this year.

After his 16-point haul against Huddersfield in Blank Gameweek 33, Jamie Vardy (£9.2m) was in third place on 5.97% backing, just ahead of Brighton forward Glenn Murray (£6.3m) on 5.11%.

Captain poll results after Kane’s injury

As you can see from the new results, it would appear that Son Heung-min (£8.6m) has soaked up a lot of the support for Kane, but not all of it. He is the new poll leader but with a much smaller clearance between him and Duffy.

The South Korean currently has 32% of the votes, while the Brighton man has risen from 14.3% to 20.6%.

Vardy has also benefitted from Kane’s injury, jumping from 5.97% support to 11.3%, but is still ranked third right now. Murray’s rise has been even smaller, with an increase from 5.11% to 5.98%.

The last remains of Kane’s support appear to have moved to Sergio Aguero (£11.7m) and Christian Eriksen (£9.2m), who currently have the backing of 4.8% and 3.95%.

With both Alli and Kane very likely out should we be considering Moura instead of Eriksen? Even possible captian?

Seems absolutely nailed to play and will play in an advanced role (possibly even in front if Llorente does not start). Frees up funds to another players in wc?

    Thoughts?

For short term yes, but surely Eriksen will outscore him by big margin until the end of season. On WC I want my Spurs assets to be set and forget so Son+Eriksen for me

All City players are a rotation risk.
I would honestly play Sterling ahead of any of your current front 7...but especially Sigurdsson, Deeney, or Eriksen.

Nice except for Murray. He is almost certain to only play one game so ask yourself would you even own him, let alone captain him, if it was a single gameweek?

I am going for Aguero over Sterling but it's personal preference only, Sterling obviously a good pick.

Regarding the city game - have to gamble on there being motivation to stop city winning the title and potentially a raised performance

Is KdB nailed on? Jota's home form is perfect but you've already owned 2x WOL.

Don't expect much from Hojberg. I don't like him at all.

If you aren't afraid of Sterling's potential haul(s), then A) sounds really good.

Yup, Hojbjerg would purely be a 'best option for very little money' pick.

Perhaps a little afraid of Sterling, but I don't think he's guaranteed to play every game himself. A does feel a bit more balanced.
