The Dugout Discussion opens today for two Premier League games involving some of it’s most enjoyable teams to watch. Third-place chasing Spurs take on the exciting Swansea City after Newcastle host Liverpool, with the former fighting for European football.

The team news from the game at The Sports Direct Arena is in, and the sides line-up as follows…

Newcastle XI: Krul, Simpson, Williamson, Perch, Gutierrez, Guthrie, Tiote, Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Cisse, Ba.

Liverpool XI: Reina, Flanagan, Carragher, Skrtel, Jose Enrique, Shelvey, Spearing, Gerrard, Suarez, Carroll, Bellamy.

Alan Pardew is without the injured Fabricio Coloccini, which partners James Perch with Mike Williamson in central defence and puts Jonas Gutierrez in the left-back berth. It’s the same attacking mentality that served them so well at West Brom.

Liverpool also name an attacking side, knowing that a win here is essential if they want to overhaul the Magpies. Andy Carroll returns to his former stomping ground and starts alongside Luis Suarez.

Our Dugout Discussion chatroom will remain open all day, and can be accessed right here.

Best replacement for Ba, already have RVP & Rooney. I'm thinking Balotelli, Cisse or Adebayor, got 3m in the bank. Any thoughts? 😉

Balotelli is consistent but City aren't
Cisse is all form and decent enough fixtures.
Adebayor - completely inconsistent. Might even itself out over their easy fixtures, but expect plenty of 2-pointers.

I'd do Cisse. (I did last week).

Talk about going to the wire. I'm pretty sure I'm rightfully nervous.
This is how group G has been set up

    Fuzzy-kaboul+young
    vs
    Archie-3pts+valenica

    Flynn-siggy+rooney
    vs
    Pratik-4pts+bale

Bale, Please bang in a goal today else there is no way I'm making it out alive.

As long as you have a GW34 keeper. Fixtures are decent but it's Bolton, so wouldn't be surprised if he scored low still. Last CS February 1st.

Still, good value I guess and frees up money to bulk up other areas a bit.

    10 minutes to survive.

the depth of content on this site continues to amaze me, it really is a great site. i've got to learn to just go with my gut though. weeks back when ba was returning from africa i couldn't decide between him and cisse for my third forward spot. i asked that since i was chasing a mini league deficit of 60 odd points shouldn't i go for the differential of cisse. someone responded with it's way too early to be thinking along those lines so i stayed "safe" with ba. the difference after today is i believe 35 points counting cisse's inevitable 3 bonus.

so my advice back to the community, no matter what ALWAYS trust your gut. it's good to ask questions and pose scenarios but ALWAYS go with what you want.

Buying Cisse because you think he'll score more points than Ba is good logic. Buying him just because your mini-league rival doesn't have him, not so much 😉

i disagree totally. we have to consider both. what's the use in continuing on with always having 7-8 players matching in the team you are chasing? trying to make up 60 points over 14 odd weeks in only 3-4 spots in the squad then you might as well hand your mini-league over. i was just unsure of when to start differentiating.

every year there are 2 or 3 january transfers that light up the league for a good portion of the rest of the season. that was another thing i was looking at. siggy and cisse this year. got siggy in time missed cisse.

    Corriganism Mutterings
I'm throwing in the towel when it comes to transfers. I um and er all week, lose value before making the wrong move. Jelavic and Verm are long term acquisitions but a paltry 1 point in total from my new signings epitomises the hair pulling frustration for those without alopecia. This may go some way to helping explain why I'm hesitant to part with Texan Clint and his cowboy boots.
The Curious Case of Clint Dempsey
I've been singing (well, typing to be mercifully more accurate) Clint's praises all week and the importance for keeping till at least after NOR. He's a trojan at home. And yet I advised people against buying him due to a very complex schedule ahead post-Norwich. I'm re-thinking this school of thought. Is it part knee jerk and straying away from the original plan to part ways this week or next? Possibly.
MF spots are precious. The 3 bench spots for GW34 are precious. Bale has a seat reserved for both. I think Dempsey should/could get a seat too. There's a healthy reliance to those two core players and they should perhaps remain the core of many squads as they do now. Keeping Dempsey may result in not fielding a full 11 in GW34 and a fudging tough double, but it's worth looking at the bigger picture as this game is never bloody straightforward.
    Schedule
Bolton (a) - That little (a) spells trouble for us Dempsey owners that dominates our thoughts more than Bolton's dreadful home, defensive record in this case. He's terrible away from home - or is he? He was a mm from sneaking a goal at fortresss OT and he registered 4 shots in total. He's notched at the DW, St James' and Stamford, which brings us nicely onto the next fixture.
Chelsea (h) - local derby and the song "Take Me Home" can temporarily halt. The Jekyll and Hyde of the Cottagers will be looking to "get one over" the Blues (or the bar?). Chelsea have just conceded two goals to a Villa side more toothless than a new born baby. He's already notched one against them this season and with Pog possibly injured, there will be more emphasis on Dempsey to deliver.
Blank, WIG, DOUBLE (yes, the double is away, but the lad is not any old DGW player - he's the DGW King, Long Live the King!) SUN. He still remains a cappo option right up till GW37.

    A) Sell Pog for Bendtner and Suarez for Torres
B)Keep Suarez and sell Pog for Bendtner only
    C) Do nothing and save transfer .

43(-4) so 39 with evans, vorm, bae, valencia and adebayor left you probaly in a slightly better postion but we both have very decent scores

Belha - Remember the captain punts last week. I said Evans, you said McClean.

Don't know if you saw my reply earlier in the week but I went for HBA this GW. I might have to start doing this for real.

      Cisse... 6, 2, 6, 2, 0 (didn't play), 9, 16, 12 (assuming 3 BP's)

      Got to admit, he's a scorer. 😉
